I am confused by sign in changes in the forum - About xda-developers.com

I used to be able to log in with my username moshiachnow. Today I tried to do that, but it kept prompting me to link my log in with a Google log in. It also had me pick a different user name. So now I have this extra log in, geulanow, and no idea how I can log into my previous account. I tried resetting the password, got a new password, but keep getting logged into geulanow instead.
What am I missing here?
Thanks.

When logging in, you must have pressed the red Google button next to the sign in area. You should instead press the > arrow next to the username/password entry. This will log you in after entering your details.
I've deleted your new account, and you still have your old @moshiachnow account.

Could you please make the design a bit more intuitive?! For example make two buttons, and label one "sign in" and the other "sign in with google".
When you are the designer of the site and therefore know how it's supposed to work, then it's easy. But if you are a user who sees this for the first time then there is absolutely no clue to figure this out, other than by luck / randomly pressing somewhere (which usually isn't a smart idea). I didn't even get, that this little arrow is supposed to be a butten. Thought it to be just a design element without any function.
Because of privacy issue I din't want to sign in with google and therefore started experimenting and searching to figure out an alternate way to log in without google. Took me about 15 Minutes to find this thread. Was near on giving up on xda an searching for an alternate forum.

Market not working (download won't start) new Evo

Ok,
(Before those that have nothing to do start shouting, I have searched! I spend hours last night looking and time this morning looking. This error is NOT related to a googlemail/gmail switch..it is NOT related to internet connection..it is NOT related to some obscure cache issue [i think]. So now that caveate is out of the way....)
I cannot download anything from the Market. Here is the process as I see it...
- Open Market app from phone
- Find app I want and click download
- Go back to main Market screen and click download tab
- App sits there with a 'starting download process'
Now...if the error is somewhere there...can someone please tell me.
But...a few minutes later I get this...
- Alert noise goes off
- Alert says Google Talk authentication failed
- Go and stop the app in the running apps screen
- Find GTalk app on phone and start it up
- It hangs up on the Talk bubble screen with Signing in swirly thing just going round
- Eventually that alert noise goes off again
So...there seems to have been an issue many months back when UK customers switched from googlemail domains to gmail domains. But I have never had either. I am registered with google and I have one of my personal emails set up on that account. I can log into google, I can use Picasa, I can use the forums, etc.
Now, I already have three different email accounts to keep track of...do not need a fourth. But in a fit of desperation I tried to set up a gmail account last night. After 30 minutes of trying to find a user name I gave up. I do not want to be D.sablesurfer.432456 or whatever stupid azz suggestion it gives.
So...things I am wondering...
Is Google Talk integrated with Market somehow?
Can you just use Market with a regular Google log in?
How do I make google talk work since there appears to be no where on phone to change any settings?
Where is google talk looking on my phone for log in information?
Does this have anything to do with the weird sprint email address that seems to be registered to my phone? (Current username = [email protected]) (Obviously where my name would be my real name.)
Please help, the internet has been wholey useless in showing me an answer to this issue.
Oh...and if I log into google web page from phone...and choose Talk from the more menu...
....I am logged into Talk!!!
Yep, it just pulls right up with no complaints.
Ok, lots of looks no feedback.
I stopped by Sprint today and they say basically that my really old Google log in will not work. They said will need to set up an actual GMail account and replace it on the phone.
HOWEVER....there is NO way to replace it without the factory reset. Seriously? Has the Evo or HTC...or Sprint locked this thing down so much that you can never change accounts?
I changed password online...and the incorrect password screen ONLY lets me change password. The account name is greyed out.
I went into Manage Applications and the only button active is the Force Stop. The Clear Data button doesn't even exist. And after the force stop it still does not exist.
How does this make any sense? Really? People are NEVER going to change accounts? Sounds way too strict to me at moment.
So basically...unless anyone else has an idea...on the Evo (not heros or g1's)...I will have to do the factory reset tonight? This sucks.
Have you tried settings, accounts and sync, click on the google account and hit remove account?
Yup, no go. The default in the Evo seems to be permanently locked in. Well until you do the factory reset. I just posted my findings/tip over on general. This is a pisser for a newbie to android and as a LONG time programmer sucks to be locked in like that.
My market was useless earlier.
the name###@sprintpcs.com is just sprints username for you, it's used for network stuff
I'm having the same issue. tired the google search too ... wish I didn't have to do a hard reset... I hope somebody come up with a fix for this
EDIT:
Here's all that I did. I'm not sure which part fixed the issue.
*I un-synced Gmail (still didn't work)
*I deleted the pop Gmail account I had set up (still didn't work)
*I went into the market, canceled everything that was pending a download, then I re-synced Gmail, and set my pop Gmail account back up and BAM!!!! It worked. (Oh and I restarted after I did all of this)
Hope this helps...
Same problem here, hope someone with great idea can help. I am also struck on my HTC evo
Market still won't downlaod
I'm on JI6,
i have this problem that i cannot get the Market to download.
I didn't see and end to this story, only that it could be a Market problem.
But still i have this issue now for 3 days, i did most of the things in this thread.
nothing works ...
HELP
This happens to everyone.
Go to applications.
Click all applications.
Find market. Click market.
Click, clear cache, and clear data.
Restart.
I'm over that, clear the data of download manager ,and from the Market application, removed the update from the market , wifi on , wifi off .....
Still wont download
Then it's your internet if that does not work.
Check your firewall
what firewall , if i work in 3G ?
I'm having the same problem...I just flashed Myn's 2.2 RL3 and it is no different than it ever was. It's pissing me off. I've tried every solution that I could find.
I was having a similar issue with my Evo running OMJ's 4.5.
On the market.android.com site I would click install, select my phone, and it said my install would start shortly, but it never did. I scoured the net and found a fix that worked for me. Try this:
Menu -> Settings -> Appplicaltions -> Manage Applications
Select the 'All' tab
Scroll down and open 'Google Services Framework' -> Clear Data and Force Stop
Hit back and open 'Market' -> Clear Data, Clear Cache (if available), and Force Stop
Reboot
Open Market. You are going to get an error, be patient and let it sit for a moment and it will come up by itself.
You should be golden after this. Let me know how it works for you.
Why must people resurrect dead threads, do they lack the ability to read, the last post to this thread was in the first week of november, if this was still happening, this would be an active thread.

[Bug] Constant log-outs

This has gotten to the point where I need to bring it up, apparently.
What the heck is going on with the constant partial log-in situation?
I.E. everytime I refresh the page or navigate to a new one I may or may not be logged in.
It gets quite obnoxious, especially on mobile, when you're looking for a thread you've viewed/read/posted-in/whatever and you're logged out...refresh refresh refresh...logged in. Find one thread. Logged out once you click. Back to another forum to find another thread...logged in, and then back out.
This has been going on on all 4 of my Android devices, my PC (chrome/firefox) etc for a few months now.
Yes, it's surely an issue
But clicking on any user's profile logs me in again, so, whenever I come to XDA, I usually come to my Device's Forum and find myself logged out, I click on first user profile I see, of moderator efrant
But yes, it's pretty annoying but I think it should be in Requests/Recommendations threads.

The 2 things that you'll need to check to remain logged in is to:
1) Ensure cookies are enabled. Depending on your browser, you could have a setting such as "Clear cookies when closing browser" and if that is the case you would be logged out all the time. If running Chrome, this setting would be effective across multiple devices.
2) Check the "Remember me" box when logging in. If you check this, XDA will set a cookie which will keep you logged in.
One other thing to remember. If you view a page one and your browser caches it, if you navigate back to it you could get the old page locally which will show you as logged out. When you hit "Refresh" this then hits the server again which will show you as logged in.
If you are browsing somewhere where there is a proxy (either on your local machine or on your network) this could also be caching pages which could show you as logged out when you are really logged in.

None of the above apply for me unfortunately.
Cookies enabled, and again, this is multiple devices/browers/OS's.

This is very hard to troubleshoot as I'm not experiencing this problem. How familiar are you with inspecting headers and that sort of thing?

[Q] Possibly Unique WiFi issue

So at work, to connect to WiFi, I have to log in to the network to accept terms and conditions. For whatever reason I can't login properly on my note3. When I login its supposed to take me to a logout page to keep tabbed for when I leave. The issue is, on my note3, it brings me to a similar page but very different at the same time (kinda hard to explain). The page my note goes to after signing in with my userid and password, says that I've signed in successfully and to continue surfing. However, when I attempt to go to another webpage, it redirects me to the login page. I've deselected auto switching, tried to forget the network and sign back in to no avail. I do not have this issue with my kindle and others around me with different android or idevices do not have this issue. Any ideas?

Pattern Locked out of Canadian A50 with Samsung Account protection on it - and I don't remember my password :S

Since this is the second similar post today, here's the embarrassing situation: recently went through a manic episode. My life imploded. A friend gave me first, this phone, then others her kids had ceased using, when I locked myself out of this one. I was using this phone, but was still very messed up, and, one night while falling asleep, I was messing with the pattern, and locked myself out, immediately forgetting the pattern. The phone was not connected to a SIM; I'd lost that in an earlier phone. I had put Samsung protection on it - not sure what level, as this was back in the fall, but I don't think it matters, especially as I remember from that same period that I must have used some odd password for my previous Samsung account, and had to create a new, and, at the time, was informed that, if I forgot the password, I was screwed...and I don't remember this new password, either. Had her dig up the Amazon receipt, a couple months back, thinking that directly contacting Samsung would be the most efficient way to overcome this issue (after becoming very quickly frustrated with research and attempts, all of which failed), but didn't get her to email it to me for God knows what specific reason, now, but what it comes down to is still being very messed up and paranoid. And now, a bit better, trying to get things on track, lo and behold, she is locked out of her Amazon account (ironically, I remember her finding the receipt; she does not, but I'm not the only one going through sh!t). So, what do I do? I've tried the combination of volume up and power key, as well as some others, and the best I could accomplish was actually getting the phone to turn off, but that didn't get me very far. Have to add, since I just thought to check, that I apparently have access to SOME Samsung account on desktop...but no device associated - no connected information, whatsoever. Using a Samsung account was something that only began, during the early stages of this most recent episode, and so I'm unfamiliar with all this, and am just f***ing lost, here. Please, someone, help.

Nice to finally get a reply. Thanks, and also for that link, which I wasn't aware of. I did discover a second account attached to my info that I didn't know about - unfortunately, there are two problems that result from this. One account was the one I mentioned at the bottom of the initial post, which has not a thing attached to it, in any way. The other is account is attached to a gmail account and I have no idea when this one was created - I wasn't aware of it, at all - and, just today (ironically), I went to log into that google account, and discovered I was locked out (oddly, as I've logged into it from this browser, and on this computer, before, and relatively recently, as well) and was given a run around to attempt to recover it, which I only managed to do by leaving the loop it had me in for another route of access. I am now waiting 48 hours for a reset?/access? email to arrive, which sucks for other reasons not associated with this particular issue. I was quite sure that the aforementioned account was the one associated with this phone. I genuinely don't believe it would have been the gmail account, not the least reason for which is that I have zero recall of it, whatsoever. If I turn out to be correct about this, and the gmail is NOT the account, could (would?) you (or anyone) possibly direct me to/assist me with another way to get into my phone?
Either way, thanks for the response. It's been a long while since I used this site, but I was beginning to think I wouldn't get a response, at all.
there is no other way to unlock than Samsung account.
I was apparently wrong. It wasn't associated with any Samsung account, no - but it was to my Google account. After sifting many YouTube videos - and failing - and searching all over the place, I finally found one that worked, and, when I tried my Google acount, I was in. Thank God. Thanks for the help, alecxs!
glad to hear. by any chance did you use the SECURE DEVICE option of https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager to unlock phone? Because last time I used this feature it was broken, and my understanding is that google deprecated any remote lock screen by-pass functionality. Would be nice to know what worked for you.

I absolutely despise Gerrit.

This might be quite ranty, but I just want to talk about a problem with the service LineageOS offers in order to actually contribute to the project.
Why am I doing it on XDA? Honestly I looked for a long time on the official website for a forum, and I couldn't find anything, so, here I am.
I wanted to fix a small inaccuracy I've seen in the wiki page of a device I just installed LineageOS to, so I read their wiki page on how to do exactly that. I made my change, and when I wanted to actually commit my changes, I saw the instructions said to create a Gerrit account.
'Sure thing', I thought as I happily went to the site, and I clicked on the 'Sign in' button. To my surprise, I reached a Google login page. I thought I pressed something wrong, so I went back, wanting to just create an account using an ordinary e-mail address, for multiple reasons, privacy and staying away from Google as much as possible being the largest one.
When I realised that this was the only option, I eventually caved in since I already took the time to make my change, and I figured I might as well just upload it. I logged in and, to my surprise, I saw I had a profile picture I set when I was around 13. Weirded out, I clicked on 'Change Picture', only to see I was getting redirected to none other than Gravatar. Ugh.
I went through the trouble of getting my Gravatar account back since I used an old e-mail address (actually just hijacking my old account to delete it and then creating a new one). Needless to say, it didn't work at all, and I still had my Minecraft profile picture from fifth grade on Gerrit.
Giving up temporarily, I scrolled more through the Gerrit account details, and I reached a section about e-mail addresses linked to the account. I added the e-mail address I actually wanted to use to the account, and, surprisingly, it allowed me to set that one as the main address, but even more surprisingly, it allowed me to remove the GMail address from the account. So, without thinking twice, I did that. Everything seemed well, even my profile picture updated to the normal one. I then continued to add more details to the account, like my username, and just as I was about to generate myself a new SSH keypair to get started and finally end this, for some reason, the page refreshed and it kicked me out of the account. Then, I tried logging in, shortly after realising my edits were on an inaccessible account due to the need to log in only through Google and the fact that I removed the GMail address. So, now, I technically have two broken accounts: one that can't update its profile picture and with a bad username (the one on the Google account), and one inaccessible one due to how signing in is handled that's hogging onto the username I want to use (the one with the e-mail I wanted to use).
So, in conclusion, LineageOS Gerrit, for some reason, forces Google account log in and also forces the use of Gravatar. Really now? I understand offering Google account log in as an option, but not as the sole way of creating an account. I couldn't care less about the profile pic if I didn't have an old one I couldn't replace.
Why don't you make it easy for people to contribute and just offer classic, normal, e-mail sign in, like any other service?
This is the 21st century.
The point is to make the trivial as tedious as possible!
There are times that I have some change to offer but I don't feel like git-ing the whole project.
So I don't.
There have been times that I have found an error in closed source, told the OEM which file, which line, which character.
Nope. Nobody interested.
Feels wierd, when LineageOS is supposed be “private” and about “privacy”. While I personally do not care how to log in, it feels like this is kind of against what they are trying to get.

+1 I was equally annoyed about it, many times:

Your story is pure horror This is just despicable and entirely disregards the wiki concept.

Nah, I don't even mind having to `git clone` the entire wiki. As long as you provide me a method to contribute with instructions, I'll follow it happily.
But, I understand your point. Maybe it'd be better to have an approach similar to the Arch Wiki, for example. Just an account creation on the wiki website, a discussion page where you can actually discuss a change before making it (I don't know why, but making a pull request for something seems way too final for me, sometimes I'd like discussing a change before making it instead of having that discussion in a Git pull request or issue) and a simple `Edit` button.

Yeah, it seemed weird to me too when LOS looks like it at least tries to be privacy-centric, but then only offers Google log in to contributors
