[Bug] Constant log-outs - About xda-developers.com

This has gotten to the point where I need to bring it up, apparently.
What the heck is going on with the constant partial log-in situation?
I.E. everytime I refresh the page or navigate to a new one I may or may not be logged in.
It gets quite obnoxious, especially on mobile, when you're looking for a thread you've viewed/read/posted-in/whatever and you're logged out...refresh refresh refresh...logged in. Find one thread. Logged out once you click. Back to another forum to find another thread...logged in, and then back out.
This has been going on on all 4 of my Android devices, my PC (chrome/firefox) etc for a few months now.

Yes, it's surely an issue
But clicking on any user's profile logs me in again, so, whenever I come to XDA, I usually come to my Device's Forum and find myself logged out, I click on first user profile I see, of moderator efrant
But yes, it's pretty annoying but I think it should be in Requests/Recommendations threads.

The 2 things that you'll need to check to remain logged in is to:
1) Ensure cookies are enabled. Depending on your browser, you could have a setting such as "Clear cookies when closing browser" and if that is the case you would be logged out all the time. If running Chrome, this setting would be effective across multiple devices.
2) Check the "Remember me" box when logging in. If you check this, XDA will set a cookie which will keep you logged in.
One other thing to remember. If you view a page one and your browser caches it, if you navigate back to it you could get the old page locally which will show you as logged out. When you hit "Refresh" this then hits the server again which will show you as logged in.
If you are browsing somewhere where there is a proxy (either on your local machine or on your network) this could also be caching pages which could show you as logged out when you are really logged in.

None of the above apply for me unfortunately.
Cookies enabled, and again, this is multiple devices/browers/OS's.

This is very hard to troubleshoot as I'm not experiencing this problem. How familiar are you with inspecting headers and that sort of thing?

Opera issue, suggestions needed

Hello all,
In the past week, Opera does not want to stay signed in/logged in to any website, including this one.
Example: I go to my iGoogle page, which should normally just come up, but I need to log in. I log in, my page shows up, great. Then I want to go to Gmail from ny iGoogle, and I have to sign in again. If I want to read an e-mail, log in again. If I want to reply to the e-mail I'm reading, log in again. Just to write this question, I had to log in twice, and I'll probably have to to submit it as well. It's getting annoying.
I have no such problems with Skyfire or the built-in IE. I haven't changed any settings, always make sure I check "stay logged in" if the option is available. I did clear cookies and cache about 2 months ago, but there was no difference until last week. The only things I have added lately were a few of brent's coloured icons. I use Clean Ram almost daily, have for months, and have soft reset at least once a week.
I have a Telus TP2 (CDMA), original ROM, using Opera that's built in.
If anyone knows or has suggestions, they would be appreciated.

I'm not positive on this one, but I'd suspect that Opera's "turbo mode" might be stripping your saved login info...it routes all website data through their servers, so there's a chance that login info won't be persistent through that. To disable that for testing this, just select the "options" menu in Opera, and then un-select the "Opera Turbo" option near the top...then see if once you login one more time, it still doesn't retain that for you.
Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't change a thing. Had to log in 3 times just to get to this page, very frustrating.
Side note, the "options" menu wasn't where you said it was. I still found it using the search function in "opera:config". Maybe my particular build of 9.5.
Anyone else care to take a shot at it? Or should I just go to a newer version of Opera, and will it overwrite the existing one so it's the default?

Ahh yes I'd assumed you were on 9.7 or higher, didn't realize any versions of the TP2 had 9.5 as the default version.
As I understand it, installing any version of Opera subsequent to the one installed by default on your stock ROM will actually create a completely new discreet install of the new version, and the original will still be on there...that's what happend when I installed 10.
More info can be found on my signature link
Thank you, orb3000, however, you have more than one clickable link in your signature, one of them I obviously was able to eliminate. The Opera thread has 186+ pages, and while I would love to have the time to slog through it, even a search of it yielded no results for my particular predicament.
A hint on approximately which one of those many pages would be appreciated.

Can't log in 99% of the time

So most of the time, when I try to log in, I get the "Thank you for logging in Lint6" and redirect page. But when it redirects..I'm not logged in. It takes me a few times to get in. I've cleared cookies from my browser and everything but it still does it. Its been happening for a few weeks now so its not related to the forums being down yesterday

I see this reported occassionally. It seems you tried the correct things, clearing cookies, history etc. It's just possible it can happen at heavy server load times, but with it happening so often to you, I think it might be worth trying a different browser.

[Q] Forum will log me off when using google chrome

Hello,
I've had this issue from day one and now I'm finally getting around to posting about this. I use Goggle chrome in incognito mode (yeah I'm paranoid) at work. Chrome opens up with my 15 websites I visit often in tabs and with every single one of them I need to log in using the appropriate account. xdadevelopers is the ONLY website which will log me off even while I am active on the forum. To be honest XD is the only forum that even logs me off if I am inactive but that's another discussion.
I searched and found this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11902604&postcount=1
But while related it's not my problem. This happens to me whether I am inactive or not. EX: I can be going from one forum to the other and in between these functions I will go from being logged in to not being logged in. Or I can click on a post and go from being logged in to not just in the time it takes to display the post.
Like I said I've been living with this but it it a bit of a PITA to have to log in a dozen times a day sometimes.

I believe XDA uses a short session time-out, given the huge number of users online at a time.
That might be your issue since the cookies are not being saved in incognito...
I know this is a basic response, but first try the XDA forums in normal Chrome. Then try Firefox, IE, Opera, etc. and see if you get the same result.

Being logged out automatically when replying

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone else is getting this problem today or if it's just me.
I logged on this morning as I do everyday and when I tried replying to someone it told me I'm not logged in, so I typed in my details again and that same page continued to show until I shut my browser and opened another session. This let me log in but still when I try to reply to a post or even when I tried to view my control panel it logged me out and wouldn't allow me back in until I started a new browser session.
I've been monitoring it during my lunch time session and have had to close down and re-login multiple times but noticed also when looking through threads it was logging me out and in automatically from page to page.
I've tried both chrome and IE and both behave the same way. Thankfully I was able to post this so am hoping it stops doing it.
If it makes any difference I'm on the 2013 theme and I've never had this happen before today.
Thanks
I am using Firefox and I haven't seen that problem except at the very beginning of my time here last year, and then just a few times until it cleared up.

It seems when I have the "Remember me" box unchecked the problem arises but since ticking the box it isn't happening. I don't generally have remember me ticked while on work PC's but as said never happened before so hopefully just a glitch on my side.
Thanks
I am getting it too on my work PC (who knows what browser they use, it so filtered) but I also got that on my home PC (Firefox).
Frankly, it is making it unusable for me atm b/c I have to do all the steps you said above just to post. If I want to post multiple times in different threads, it can take more time to post the message than it did to type it. I've resorted to typing the message, then copying it and hitting post just to be kicked out, re-log in and clear caches/cookies and paste and post. It is a real PITA.
I've tried on 2010, 2013b and 2013b1024 just in case it was a theming issue. Am not having that problem on any other forums or outside internet sites that I have logged into but I have noticed it over the past two days, as well.

Did you try ticking "Remember me" when logging in as sorted it for me, I just had to remember to log out when I finished.
Well, let's see here.
Edit: No dice. Logged me out again. Tried it with Remember Me ticked and unticked.
Edit2: In fact, I just went to my tablet forums and it showed me as logged out. Then I clicked the XDA in the top corner to come back to this thread and it shows me as logged in. Must be ghosts in the machine.
Edit3: Now it is showing me as logged in right now, so I tried to go to the RC forums and got denied. Pulled up my phone forums in the Find Your Device (because I thought it might be something to do with my favorites/bookmarks) and it shows me as logged off. If I open the About XDA-Developers page, I am logged in.
Edit4: Sorry about these edits. I am only logged into THIS THREAD and not About XDA-Developers. I just got a PM and can't read it b/c it logs me out.
I've been experiencing this since Tuesday morning. Both in Chrome and Firefox. I've changed nothing and log in the same way as always. Happens when I try to reply and view my subscriptions. Tapatalk is the only way I can view and reply to anything right now.
Edit - this is happening both at home and work.

Same here guyz.... Have tried different browsers on different operating systems.... Same thing.... Anybody found the reason.... Or a solution?

This is happening to me too. I can get on once in every 100 attempts. I have tried everything, including changing browser, ip, computer, switching to xda 2010 and back, and ticking the remember me.
It's been happening to me for the last few days, I just ticked remember me, now I'm in for once!
The solution for this is to click the "Remember me" box when logging in. This is an issue that seems to have arisen due to a change in infrastructure on our end (I believe). It doesn't seem to impact all accounts however, just some of them.
If anyone has this issue after checking the "Remember me" box, please let me know.

Yes happening to me. If I clean everything in history of my browser, any browser, it logs me once. Immediately like I would post now it would log me out. It is happening in all the browsers with my account.
After getting logged out. When I again try to login, it would show a popup showing you are being logged in as nagpalkapil but would again not log e in and come out until I clean everything from history again including cookies etc. Has started happening for just last two days and was perfect before. Please help urgently on it.

[Q] Xda website doesn't remember me

Hi, after a little time (1-2 hours, i don't know it exactly) that I don't enter in xda-deverlopers.com website it requests me to sign in even if I selected "Remember me" on the login form and i didn't log out. I use Chromium, I tried to wipe my cookies but it's always the same. The only reason I thought is that when I enter with the Android app it closes my existing session. Ideas? Thanks.
I don't get logged out when I use the XDA app, it might be different with newer versions.
Anyway, in Chromium: Settings > Show Advanced Settings > Privacy > Content Settings > "Allow local data to be set" should be checked.
Also check you're not clearing your cookies (either directly or using a 3rd party program).

Nothing of these... :crying:
I block only 3rd-party cookies, but it's only google/youtube stuff. forum.xda-developers.com is allowed.
EDIT: I notice now that 4 cookies (__utmc __bblh __bblogedin and __bbsessionhash) expire when the navigation session is closed.
I have the same problem with Chrome, too.

I'm experiencing the same problem as well. When I close my browser & then try to get back to XDA, I'll have to log in again, and this has been happening for probably about a year now. It's quite frustrating.
Same issue here, started noticing it in the last couple of weeks. I looked at my cookies and see that "xdaloggedin" cookie is set to expire in 15 min by default, regardless if Remember Me is checked.
Using the latest stable version of Chrome.
It seems a Chrome/Chromium-related bug. My laptop with Opera successfully keep me logged in after 1 day.
Inviato dal mio Sony Xperia Sole attraverso l'app ufficiale xda-developers
yup same problem here on chrome
gotta add my 2 cents:
i'm on PaleMoon (FF source) and i have to log in every time i open the forum in the browser :/
any solution for this frustrating bug?
I also have this problem, but...
Every time I start Chrome or idle for some time and visit the forum index (http://forum.xda-developers.com/), it appears that I am not logged in. If I click "Forget password", it will go to the "Forget password" page, but then on the top-right corner it says I am logged in. After that if I go back to the index page (http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php) or whatever page, it will continue to say that I am logged in.
But then if I go back to http://forum.xda-developers.com/, it says I am not logged in, not until I do a complete refresh (Ctrl + F5) then it says I am logged in again.
It is even stranger that if I go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/ and press Ctrl + F5 before clicking on the "Forget password" link, it will continue to show that I am not logged in.
* Note the subtle differences in links
Ya the same problem happens on my chrome I have to login every time even though I click remember me...

I just started having this problem in Chrome, too. I agree, I'd rather log in constantly than switch to IE.
Though, I have to say, Chrome is becoming somewhat unreliable. Just yesterday, Chrome froze when ebay tried connecting me to paypal to pay for a purchase. IE handled the same interaction just fine. That should always be the low end of your bookmark: "Do better than IE."
...same for me but as soon as I click on any room then it recognize me as logged-in AND
after 20 seconds
--- if I click back on my XDA favorites shortcut it keeps me logged-in
---- if I click on the forum home-page icon it recognize me as logged-in
I've been having this issue since I started using the forums, and I use Firefox exclusively, so it can't be a Chrome-only issue.
i get logged off only if i check forums via xda android app (which is terribly slow after last update). ohhh i use firefox
Hey guys, try clearing your cache in the browser you're experiencing the issue. I've had this problem as well, but seemed to be resolved after clearing cache/cookies.

I've had this issue on both Firefox and Chrome for a long, long time. I've never understood why my login is not persistent but have just lived with it... 'til now.
I'll try the above fix and see what that does for me.
