[guide] install at&t kitkat e980 stock flash + root + recovery - complete wipe !
FOR AT&T LG E980:
Basically, from my experience I put together this guide for anyone who wishes to flash a complete stock AT&T KitKat from .TOT file and the root and add recovery.
All the steps are what I have gathered from around the forums, SO I WILL GIVE CREDIT FOR STEPS THAT ARE OUTLINED BY OTHERS. These people helped by their postings.
FLASHING TOT FILES:
1. The BEST - I think a lot of us can agree - thread for the LG E980 flashing with STOCK firmware is this by HYELTON http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44983841&postcount=1
STOP OVER THERE AND GIVE THE MAN SOME LOVE AND THANKS !!!!
.TOT files and .Kdz files for all versions can be found at Hyelton's thread above. Also, more details for flashing .TOT vs .Kdz files there. Below is some tips from my experience.
Here is the exact TOT file I used: http://www.mediafire.com/download/djjmck2eost77e3/BIN_LGE980AT-00-V20g-ATT-US-APR-28-2014+0.tot
SOME OF MY TIPS: FROM MY EXPERIENCES
2. The only hitch is getting LGFlash Tools and hacking it. I tried the links on Hyelton’s thread but some are now too new to be hackable. For example, one must find the reg key for the new version of LGTools he links to. Megalock.dll is hit-or-miss. There are other ways for sure but I did not bother further.
3. I found that lower versions of LG Flash Tool (v 1.4.1330R) works just fine.
EDIT: The latest version of LG Flash Tools is here http://www.mediafire.com/download/6g1uyoz2zsiqq1c/LG+Phone+Flash+Stuff.rar
And it contains the DLL to be used during flashing. I STRONGLY SUGGEST USING THIS. You MUST -MUST- TURN OFF INTERNET WHEN USING FLASH TOOLS. This pack contains the full software, and dll files. I have flashed using just this package >10 times at least while testing roms
a.Connect phone and let Windows install drivers. In my case, Windows 8 default were just fine.
b.Put your phone in download mode.
c.Connect it to your computer. In case of windows 8 the windows default drivers work fine.
d.Follow Hyelton’s steps.
EDIT: See posts #32and #33 in this thread. Do not go back to download. But wait for fastboot to install. See post #33 for this. Just wait patiently, the phone will reboot to full normal mode/setup screen, then the LG tools will say pass. BE VERY PATIENT.
ROOTING AND RECOVERY:
ROOTING:
THANKS TO jarari2:
1.This method here works just fine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699067
Simple bat file method. Turn ON USB Debugging before trying.
2.RECOVERY:
THANKS TO hoangnova AT http://lgviet.com/forum/threads/moi-thu-ve-lg-g-pro-4-4-2-root-recovery-kdz.14841/

No Problem.
To do the OTA I guess you went back to complete stock ? Yeah, that is a good option too....! Only, it requires one extra flash (going back to stock!)
Just for info, can you please add the steps to your post.
Thanks.

I went back to pure stock and no custom recovery, then did the 10p update - I found that the update to 10p would not work with other than stock recovery. I then just used the settings query for OTA update, downloaded and installed - all my programs and data were intact after the update, except apps requiring root would not run correctly. I then followed your steps to root. I still have the stock recovery at this point. KitKat runs great.

So when going back to complete stock the 10p, how did you keep apps, settings if you used odin.? Just interested in your procedure since obviously OTA on stock will retain programs and settings.
It just worked...

Honestly, I don't know. I had been flashing lots of different ROMS and then went back the total day 1 stock. I then updated OTA to 10p a couple of months ago and rooted but did not flash a custom recovery. I then heard that 4.4.2 was available, checked via the about link and downloaded. All the apps and data stayed in place. I then rooted and have yet to flash a custom recovery. I'm sorry I can't give you more detail. But I can tell you that I seem to have better battery life, and I had to pair my phone to my car again. Good luck.
i miss network connection
hi, i follow your steps, and it worked, i have KK now on my e980.
but... sometimes i lost my network connection, and it returns in a minute or two
any ideas?
With the recovery installed from this thread. Can we flash non stock custom roms or just stock roms.

Hey! I can't flash the .TOT, the Flash Tool doesn't recognize port COM41, or any other. I go to device administrator, and there's my phone as port 41, but the Flashing Tool doesn't. Any ideas?!

I have not used towelroot ever. BUT, I do not see why you cannot add a recovery irrespective of root method. I have done this mtself.

Hi,
I am just writing these steps to help those who want to downgrade from KK to JB due to any reason. Please use these steps at your own risk.
Some Background:
Recently I updated my Razr M to KK, it was Locked and Unrooted, but with the help of Twelroot and Motopocalypse I rooted and unlocked the BL.
Now somehow I didn't like the KK and wanted to go back to JB 4.1.2 because I was now having unlocked BL and rooted phone so it was easy but need to follow some steps to successfully downgrade to JB. So an unlocked BL and rooted with KK is must.
Prerequisite:
USB drivers for Razr M must be installed before proceeding.
Steps:
1. download the firmware file [Android 4.1.2
Blur_Version.98.30.1.XT907.Verizon.en.US] from http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=8
2. extract the above archive and replace the XML file with the one in attachment.
3. put the phone into fastboot mode and flash the firmware with RSD Lite (attached)
4. reboot and now you have JB 4.1.2
If you want to install root application again and also want to flash custom recovery then please follow the Post#5 [ATTACK] (thanks ATTACK)
Note : for custom recovery you will need the fastboot.exe if you don't have it then install minimal_adb_fastboot_v1.1.3_setup.exe(attached).
Put the phone in fastboot mode, copy the recovery to c:\ and execute the below command :
fastboot flash recovery [Path to recovery image]
If it help you then don't forget to press Thanks button !
Forgive my ignorance but this won't downgrade the kernel will it? I'm hoping it's possible to go from the newest OTA to the stable CM11 but I'm guessing this is new kernel JB. Either way thanks if I can't go to stable CM11 I'll stick with rooted 4.1.2.
Once you have a unlocked bootloader, you do not need to use "root programs". All you need to do is flash a custom recovery via Mfastboot / fastboot then flash SuperSU / Superuser.
In dhacker29's folder there are 2 different recoveries.
"msm8960" is for 4.1.2
"KITKAT" is for 4.4.2

The steps are tested by my 2 times, and there shouldn't be any problem. Make sure you have installed the correct drivers.
Please ensure that your bootloader is unlocked and shows BL unlocked status code 3 on BL screen.
I was also able to successfully flash back to JB with House of Moto via fast boot and full data wipe. It would not work with Universal or Keep Data, had to do full data wipe. Just another alternative :good:

Thanks You Its a Success Downgrade From 4.4 stock > CM11 > Stock rom 4.1 Thank you so much !!!
For those undergoing the downgrade process in RSD Lite and it takes forever for it to finish and the system ends up without data/signal, you need to RSD Lite flash again in order to regain signal. I believe the flashing was sluggish due to the jump from 4.4.2 to 4.1.2 and the many changes that were reflashed.

Thank you so much for the guide. After a lot of trial and error (mostly error), I thought that I had bricked my lovely XT907. I finally restored KitKat by flashing the 4.4.2 firmware with the edited XML file (deleting lines with "Getvar", "var" and "oem" in them), then followed your guide to the letter and found myself with a perfectly functional phone once again. No more sticky fastboot loops or audio-related crashes for me!
Lovely guide - thanks again!

I'm trying to help out a friend and update his Galaxy S3 SGH-I747. He originally had cyanogenmod installed but he restored his phone back to stock and flashed a stock recovery back to the phone. When he tries to do an OTA updated it downloads but fails to install? His current android version is 4.1.1 but his baseband is I747UCUFNE4 which if im not mistaken is for android 4.4.2 what would be the easiest way to get his phone updated to the stock 4.4.2 software?

Thanks, I had found the last link (....2789917) by doing a Google search (i.e., searching within the forum was less successful).
Hey bmoliver and BWolf56,
I am in the same boat as your friend where my baseband (bootloader) version is I747UCUFNE4 but the software version is stuck at 4.1.1. AT&T is identifying a OTA update, downloading but the update is failing.
I tried the method described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2789917. But when I am trying to flash MJB bootloader, it is failing. I read elsewhere in this forum that downgrading from UCU to MJB is not really advisable.
I am stuck in 4.1.1 and my phone is half functional at the moment with the camera, nfc, bluetooth not functional :crying:.
Was your friend able to get this resolved bmoliver?
I tried searching for a I747UCUFNE4 md5 file that I can flash using odin (just a hope that it might work) but could not find.
It would be great if one of you can point me to it.
PS: I am a complete newbie to this entire thing and so far from what I read, my phone is probably soft-bricked and am hoping that someone would guide and help me get out of this.
EDIT: One more thing that I observed is when I am trying flash something in the download mode, I get the error and "sw rev check fail fused 3 binary 0" and it fails
Thanks,
CJ

You don't want to downgrade bootloaders, that will brick your phone.
You'll have to flash NE4 with Odin (or a NE4 custom ROM through custom recovery) to get your baseband and software matching.
The thread you linked should work if you follow it to a T. If something doesn't work, let us know and be specific about what happened.
Thanks for the info BWolf56,
Sorry for asking a trivial question (just getting accustomed to the lingo used here) .
When you say I should follow it to a T, are you just referring to follow all the steps.
I tried two things
1. follow each step, but failed at step 3 since I was trying to downgrade my bootloader.
2. I jumped from step 2 to step 6 and tried to flash 4.4.2OTA.zip in recovery mode but that also failed. I dont remember the exact error I got, I can try it again to give you more details if you think it is safe.
Thanks

Sounds like you'll have to use Odin to flash Stock.
Your build.prop is most likely borked (or has been changed to something it's not). d2u is not a variant of the S3, nor does it exist.
Thanks a ton for helping me identify the problem.
I just have to look if a stock file to flash using odin is out there somewhere.
I will post in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2789917 to see if enewman17 or someone from the community have a tar or md5 file that I can use.
I will try that and update on how it goes.

There isn't a NE4 stock for Odin. I just noticed the post hasn't been updated in a while.
I though I could find it on Sammobile.com but they have LK3 as their latest too.
Since you somehow have the 4.4.2 modem, you can not flash anything older than the 4.4.2 firmware. Currently there is nothing that you can flash to fix this. Normally, I would say to flash an older modem, but if Odin is seeing it as already updated to 4.4.2 (SWREV 3), and the only thing you have that is 4.4.2 is the modem, flashing anything older will likely hard brick.
You need either the full stock firmware, which there is not one, Thanks AT&T!, or a recovery flashable firmware for 4.4.2. Enewman17 has this, but it will not work for you because of how the modem is flashed. For some reason, he has it patching the 4.3 modem rather than including the full updated one like with the other partitions. If someone makes the same thing, but with the already updated modem, you could probably flash that. No guarantees though. Running 4.1.1 firmware/bootloaders with a 4.4.2 modem is a scenario which is highly unpredictable, so anything you try to flash might cause more problems, we just don't know.
I've PM'd enewman17 to ask if there was a specific reason he updated the modem the way he did. If there is not an issue doing it like i mentioned someone can try to make a new package like that for you to try.
Thanks Doc!
Hopefully enewman17 can come up with a solution for this.
Just an information which I was not able to completely comprehend but maybe pros like you or Bwolf56 will be able to.
I opened Kies and this is what it says.
Firmware information
This is the latest firmware.
Current firmware version: PDA:LK3 / PHONE:NE4 / CSC:LK3 (ATT)
Any thoughts on how do I get the PDA and CSC updated (not even sure what exactly they are)
Thanks

Ok, enewman17 just put this together if you want to try it. This includes the full NE4 stock firmware minus system, kernel, cache and recovery.
So flashing it will preserve your current Rom, kernel and recovery, but will otherwise fully update your base firmware/bootloaders to NE4.
This should be perfectly safe to use, but seeing as it is untested, I cannot make any guarantees that it won't make things worse. (I wouldn't post it if I thought it would, but there is always the possibility)
Flash from custom recovery such as TWRP.

If you want to fully update your system (rom) to stock NE4, enewman17 has a thread in the development section with stock rooms you can flash via recovery after you update your firmware posted above.

Repacked Stock ROM for SWR50 Version LWX48P
I made a twrp flashable stock ROM ZIP of the LWX48P version firmware. You can download it at SWR50-LWX48P-repacked-signed.zip. Don't flash it with the stock recovery, it is for twrp. The ZIP contains the unmodified files, this means it is NOT rooted, busyboxed or something else. Use it to go back to stock, if you mess up with your system. You can also use the Sony PC Companion to go back to stock.
It includes also the u-boot/bootloader partition images like and from the OTA. If you don't want to reflash them, feel free to modify the zip.
Use it on your own risk.
If you need the stock recovery, too, then you can download a dump of it at SWR50-LWX48P-stock-recovery.img. Flash it with fastboot.
How did you make this? I want to do a repacked ROM with the new 5.1 update.

adb reboot bootloader
[wait for phone to reboot to bootloader]
fastboot flash recovery SWR50-LWX48P-stock-recovery.img
thanks Syphen 5 thats what i needed

I just wanted to say thanks for this post. My sw3 was stuck on the 4 dot symbols in MM booting. I tried several different ROMs and XC would not work either. Your pack worked and allowed my watch to live again. Although it is LP, that is fine. At least I can now use it.
Does this version support updates?
Thank you for the post!
Do you know maybe why this version can't get updates correctly? Seems like I get an update or two and then it stuck. Can I fix it somehow?
d-h.st isn't usable anymore. Can someone mirror the file to mega or dev host?
Thx in advance

Yes, I know. And it's installed on my watch since yesterday. But I would like to revert it to stock. Unfortunately Xperia companion isn't able to recover my watch to stock state. Companion already managed it to nearly kill my watch.

There is a link to it on Google's servers.
Hope that helps.

This is just an incremental update file. You need a unmodified system on the watch to apply this update.

Hello! I have LWX48P version on SW3. After I repacked that file by flash it with twrp (I did it and it went successfully) what should I do now to get the LWX49K version? I want the LCA43 version. Thank you

Hi,
Just try to update from Android menu (Settings->About->System Updates). Sometimes it takes several hours or a day to get the update, but it should happen.
Pay attention to stop updating after LCA43 - the update to MEC24H didn't work and I had to flash again the LWX48P.
We all have gotten a sneak peek of Sony's lollipop update onto our beloved z1 compact. Through the many ways available I for instance used an ftf file. But they do not come pre-rooted like the zip file alternatives.
The only way to root ftf I am told is to flash a kernel pre-installed with a recovery then flash SuperSU zip. I have flashed like 3 different boot.imgs only to find no TWRP/Philz/cmw recovery.
Can anyone give me a WORKING kernel that will boot into a recovery? Would really appreciate this.
Found my solution
Edit: I just found a cm11 snapshot boot.img kernel, flashed it. Booted to recovery and flashed a pre-rooted rom zip. Easy as pie.
Thanks all.
Just flash KK firmware 108, root it, install recovery latest version, and afterwards flash any customised prerooted ROM of your choice.

This is too much work. Work that I have to do. It's the only way to root this ftf. damn it
It's up to you.
I've done it.
I made a pre-rooted ftf using PRF creator and compiling the SUPERSU v2.37 and Z1C locked dual recovery 2.8.12 from Nuts site.
You can use Xperifirm to download the the firmware, then use Flashtool to decrypt the fileset and create the FTF, then you're good to go.
Hello guys.Does this method works??Without unlocking the bootloader? http://techchomps.com/root-14-5-a-0-242-android-5-0-lollipop-on-sony-xperia-z1-compact/

I'm from the UK but I used the "Customized US" version. It works all the same, I've put together a UK one now but I'll need to wipe data before I can use it.
I'd share if I didn't have awful internet. The file is massive, unfortunately.
You'll find multiple threads on how to do different parts.
You need to create your pre-rooted firmware, then you'll need to download KK with Xperifirm (probably .108) and flash it with Flashtool.
Root KK using Easy Root Tool and install XZDualRecovery using the desktop client.
Once you're rooted with SuperSU/SuperUser and Recovery you can install the pre-rooted firmware (PRF) as a flashable zip within Recovery itself.
There's also work arounds for Xposed which you can find too, I've used them and it's all working as it should for now.
I also have a locked bootloader, so don't worry about unlocking it. I'll have a look around for the threads I used and post any I find.

I'll leave you to find your own SuperSU or SuperUser zip, same with XZDualRecovery as they're frequently updated so you're better off finding the latest versions.
But how can you flash 108 if you are already on 242 and you have a locked bootloader? You must unlock it first...

What I did is that I downgraded with Flashtool, rooted KK, and then flashed a prerooted rom through the recovery. No need to unlock the bootloader.

How did you downgrade really?
You just flashed the 157 FTF in flashmode? It's doable?

OK, there seems to be some loss in translation somewhere. Hope this will clear up some stuff:
1. Flash KitKat (kernel, system, everything).
2. Root it.
3. Install recovery (here)
4. Since you don't want to make your own pre-rooted firmware, here. Click on 'Google Drive' for the zip, and FTF. You need both.
5. Put the zip in your SD card/internal.
6. Boot into recovery and clear all data (dalvik, system, data, everything).
7. Flash the zip. DO NOT REBOOT.
8. Shutdown and use Flashtool to flash the .ftf you downloaded. Check System and Baseband on the 'exclude' column.
9. Have fun!
@dazzerfong OK,first of all thanks for your answer. What I'm asking is how did you do the first step with locked bootloader.
Flashtool->Flashmode->KitKat 157 FTF->Then root it blah blah?
Are these steps correct or not? Im about to try today cos I really miss root on my phone.
If you are already on Lollipop and your bootloader is locked you can get root this way.
1.Download the correct KitKat (.157) ROM for your country/operator using Xperifim.
Convert it to FTF using Flashtool. (there are tutorials, search)
2.Flash the FTF you created using Flashtool's Flashmode. Include everything.
3.Root your KitKat (.157) using the forum's tutorials and also install [NUT]'s recovery.
4.Boot into recovery and flash your pre rooted ROM in flashable zip format.
(There are also tutorials on how to create this with Xperifim and PRF programs).
5.Enjoy rooted Lollipop with locked bootloader.

Yep! All done with locked bootloader (or, if you want, unlocked, but you're wasting your time if you're unlocked). So, first you flash the FTF of a KitKat ROM.
Rooting, use Towelroot or something. No idea why, but Towelroot refuses to play with my TWRP (recovery), so I used the old method.
@dazzerfong
One last question cos I just did all the steps but I couldnt reboot into Lollipop after flashing my pre rooted rom zip file.
6. Boot into recovery and clear all data (dalvik, system, data, everything).
7. Flash the zip. DO NOT REBOOT.
8. Shutdown and use Flashtool to flash the .ftf you downloaded.
Check System and Baseband on the 'exclude' column.

On step 8 which FTF you mean exactly? I assume you mean the FTF from which you created
your pre rooted zip initially? In my case the Customized GR version?

You should have downloaded 2 things so far: the zip, and the FTF. That FTF is Lollipop stock: doesn't matter where it's from. Flash that in Flashtool, but remember to check 'System' and 'Baseband' in the 'Exclude' column.

Downgrade to .108 (with flashtool) in order to directly root the phone, whereas with .157, you'll have to flash an older kernel with flashtool in order to get root.
Once rooted, just get yourself a flashable prerooted firmware (zip file) and flash it from the recovery (after a wipe factory reset; wipe data; wipe cache; wipe Davilk Cache and Wipe System).
