Can this method restore my Wifi connection? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I'm now using my GN as a back up, no sim card, only using wifi for some of the apps on there, and some games. Recently also testing it to be a car dash display/HUD display with OBDII scanner. However, after one day's test, it lost bluetooth and wifi connection. I can change the settings but nothing happens, and Wifi can't find any network now. (the 1st day it happened, it can still see home network, but now it can't)
I still have some information stored there so I don't want to do full re-install, or wipe data.
Can I just re-flash the same rom right now and keep all the data (app login/ game save etc...) It's on CM11 snapshot now.

I wonder if anyone could provide any insight into this. Can I just flash some of the files important for WiFi and BT and have the function back? Or just copy those files to the system partition? Is it doable? And which files could be candidate?

Quick Questions

Hi, I just recently purchased my Hermes, I have the ATT 8525 and I already upgraded to WM6 (I used the official one offered from HTC) and I have been reading everything on this site, it has everything for the phone! I just have a couple quick questions, I didn't purchase a data plan yet and have been using WiFi at all times that is possible and trying to stay away from the 3G until I get the unlimited data. Here is my first questions:
If the screen just shows the little WiFi antenna and not the 3G, does that mean I'm only using WiFi to access the internet via IE or could it still be using the 3G?
I haven't installed the "NoData" application yet and was just wondering if I really need to as long as I make sure I'm connected to WiFi and not use the data options while i'm away from WiFi.
My Second Question:
When I get my MicroSD card, will this allow me to install applications to it or how does that work? Is it only for storage of media that can be acceseed by the phone or can I download a CAB to it and install things to the OS from the SD card?
I have to say the forums here as well as the Wiki offer a lot of help and I want to thank all of you and I hope to be more active in the boards.
Cheers
1. I would still install the no data cab, just to be on the safe side. I haven't got my Rogers bill yet since I switched to the 8525, so I'm not sure if I've connected with 3G, but better safe then sorry.
2. Most apps can be installed on the card, some more crucial apps, like Today plugins, some SPB apps, ect can't be, if your not sure use the advanced google search and you'll probably find the answer...

Data connection on demand

Okay I am really starting to regret this phone as its being a pain. I have an ATT tilt2 on Rogers and settings all work.
On my Kaiser when an app needed the Data it would turn it on and all would be good. Then after a certain amt of time of non use it would disconnect the data. Is there a setting that allows the phone to turn on the data when its needed? It seems that its either on or off.
This leads me to the second issue. About 5 times a day I get a message that the connection failed. I can then go to the settings and turn on the data connection and the internet will work again. I have never turned it off nor do I have any programs that restrict it.
Lastly, I have a bunch of factory connections that I can not use as I am not on ATT's service plus a few I created when I was first setting up the phone. I can delete some of them in connection manager how do I get rid of them permanantly?
It seems to me that there is way less user configuration in 6.5 than in 6.1 yet thanks to ATT its 3 times as large. Can anyone suggest a work around for the Data on demand issue?

I use HD Tweak and it works fairly well. Because the hardware is a little different, not all of the settings translate, but the things that are common between both phones works fine. You can find the link on this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452505
Under section 6 (Data), there is a "Disconnect After", which I set for 2 minutes. Once the data is idle for 2 mins, it disconnects. The next time a program needs it again, the data connects again. Don't forget to soft reset after making changes.
Hope this helps
Okay got it working
Thanks its working now. I had installed that but there must have been somthing corrupt in my ROM as I was also unable to Harddpl it. I did two hard resets in a row, was able to flash then reistalled and now it seems to work fine.
Now if someone would make an app that uses different LED's for different notices similar to the Kaiser Notification app that was awsome.

[Q[ Anyway to pull WiFi Driver from 2.2.1 and replace 2.3.3

Hey guys
As some may or may not be aware i cant and a few select others can not use WiFi on any custome/stock 2.3.3 rom.
My issue is not with connecting to a router, its with data not being pulled through to the handset, so the handset basically tells me that it cant display a webpage or access the market.
If i use any 2.2.1 rom, stock or custom it works absolutely perfect.
So it got me thinking is it a WiFi driver issue? and if so would it be possible to pull the driver out of a 2.2.1 rom to replace the driver within the 2.3.3 rom?
Gingerbread is not a necessity for me i just want it as an option.
as for HTC they are utterly useless and all they offer is a repair when clearly its a software issue
So is there a way to do this?
i dont think it is possible because drivers are usually built when the kernel is built so swapping one from another rom i doubt will not work..

My Problem SOLVED by flashing LeeDroid 3.0.3. Check That
I've been on the phone with HTC several times and here is what I've heard back via email:
"I understand that you are currently experiencing difficulties with data connection side of the phone.
I cannot give you a reason on what happen to your device even though we have sucessfull models updated with the same FOTA.
In order to rectify this I would like you to perform the following actions:
1) Stop the automatic Backup in your phone. From the Home Screen > Menu > Settings > Privacy. Uncheck "Backup my settings".
2) Copy your Memory Card's personal data (photos, music, etc) into a PC Windows Desktop. Use the option "Disk Drive" when plug the USB cable.
3) Format the SD Card. While connected to a Windows PC. You can select the Format option via Windows Explorer or with the cable unplugged you can go from the Home Screen > Menu > Settings > SD & Phone Storage > Unmount / Erase SD Card.
4) Remove the SIM Card and the Memory Card.
5) Hard Reset your Mobile Device.
6) Skip the initial setup. Do not log into your Gmail account at this stage but setup the correct time and date on your mobile phone.
7) Insert the SIM card, accept the SIM notification on the top left corner and test the voice call, SMS and Internet Service.
Report back if one of this services fails with exact description on how you are doing to perform the task.
8) If possible, switch off and switch on your personal Wi-Fi router after 1 minute. Switch Wi-Fi on your mobile device and connect to the router. Report back if one of this services fails with exact description on how you are doing to perform the task.
9) Log into your Gmail account from the Home Screen > Menu > Settings > Accounts & Sync > Add account and select Google.
Once more test and report back if the problem persists.

and with this method you solved the problem?i´ve curiosity lol
Given that I've already had a normal hard reset albeit without sim card dance, is it worth trying to do yet another one?
I just finished reinstalling apps and contacts - would hate to do this all over again.
Thanks
exactly! i am not sure whether the guys in support know what they are talking about...
Just keeping you busy until you've forgotten your original question ;-)

+1 for me there!
I now have switched several times from 2.2.1 to 2.3.3 and back, did full wipes, did resets, did reboots, did reflashes, tried EXT4 in the process, did even some praying... Nothing worked out so far.
I think it's kinda frustrating!
BTW: might there be a link to Thomson SpeedTouch WiFi access points? For I have had the experience that the WiFi did work at my office, where they use (amongst others) Sitecom access points, whilst at home I have SpeedTouch and no data stream.

There could well be a link there, i have a speedtouch router at homel Will try our belking access point at work, give me a few mins
Ok using the belkin at work, nothing, using the linksys one at work, it works.
so there are some defo issues with compatability, one thing is that my speedtouch is an N Series router, the Belkin also is N, the Linksys one is a/b/g
i wonder if there is something broken with compatability. Still no official stance from HTC

At other office, we use D-Link access points (DAP-1360) also N series with no possible WiFi connection running Gingerbread.
I am not sure but afaIk, my home SpeedTouch isn't N series. I will look that up next thing I come home.
Will report back.
Found another WiFi access point at the office 'somewhere in the air': Belkin G Plus MIMO (obviously a G-band router) and it connects fine!!

Hi ascottuk,
Just verified my WiFi access point at home (SpeedTouch) and it definitely is b/g.
So it can't be a N protocol incompatibility problem, since I have the mentioned WiFi problems at home too (and I am sure it isn't a signal strength problem).

Hi ascottuk,
I have a SpeedTouch 716 at home.
This morning I thought maybe there would be a firmware update for that access point: BINGO!
After the update, everything is running fine with Gingerbread
Thought I'll let you know, while I am fine tuning my DHD with running ARHD 5.1.7 as nicely as I have dreamt about (c:

Returned home from short trip, Wifi connects but does not function

As the title says, I didn't change anything about the phone's configuration when I was out, didn't download any new apps or change any settings that would interfere like this. No one else has changed my home network in my absence.
Nevertheless, most of my apps, such as Instagram, the Play Store, Twitter, Wikipedia, Chrome; almost all their requests time out. There seem to be short windows where data will load, and Instagram appears to load comments and post metadata, but no images. It's basically unusable. Occasionally an exclamation mark will pop up over my Wifi symbol in the notification center. Strangely, I can still reach my Steam and Battle.net authenticators, but the moment I try loading the Steam app, nothing comes up. It's like the device can only handle plaintext over Wifi.
All of the apps work fine over cellular data.
Also, there is a toast that appears whenever I restart my phone that says "Power On" that I've never noticed before. I was rooted using Xposed, the only modules I used were Snapprefs, Xinsta, Physical Button Music Control, and Greenify Experimental Features, all of which I uninstalled. The toast still appears with the latter two disabled. Only other rooted apps I had besides Xposed were Nova Launcher, Greenify, Busybox, and Root Checker Basic, all of which have been removed but Nova.
I am running 6.0.1 with the latest update.
Any ideas? I am still within 15 day warranty so I could theoretically return the phone (which I was contemplating doing anyhow since 10gb of functional storage is a bit too small for me), but would rather not have my hand forced, and eat into my cell data plan.
So far I have tried forgetting the network, wiping cache/dalvik with TWRP, removing the Google VPN, resetting all network settings, and a couple things I can't remember offhand now. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

First, if you want to return your device because the 16gb model doesn't have enough space, go ahead.
If it is mostly because of this WiFi issue, I wouldn't return the device, it is almost certainly the case this is some configuration issue (possibly in concert with some Android bug) which can be resolved.
Is it possible when you came home the device connected to a neighbor's AP and thus you couldn't use data, but it wasn't immediately obvious, so you ended up forgetting your own network and reentering the config, but the key was off by a little, and from that point on, it was just assumed the wifi config was correct?
When you say Google VPN, are you using WiFi Assistant and Project Fi? Have you tried disabling auto-connect fir the WiFi Assistant?
Have you tried using the old Lollipop DHCP client (perhaps your IP address got used by another device and the new Android client doesn't handle that well?) Just grasping at straws.
Have you tried turning on Bluetooth while WiFi is on? Perhaps there is a bug with them working independently of each other in certain situations.

I am 100% positive I am on my own home network and that I used the correct key. I'm not sure what you mean with regards to the rest of the 'config', I have always used the standard wifi configuration, just typed in my key and had it work.

I actually forget what it was called, it was under Settings>Wireless&Networks>More>VPN. There was one entry there with an icon. I forget the name of it, but the icon looked like a stock Google icon and I think it had google in the name. I am on Project Fi, not using any wifi assistant (at least not in Advanced Wi-Fi Settings), but when I tried to toggle that option on just now, something called "VpnDialogs" crashed, so I assume that VPN entry was that. But again, the assistant wasn't on.

I don't use Bluetooth, and trying to toggle it off/on from the control center just gives me a repeated "unfortunately, Bluetooth Share has stopped" error message.
I have decided to get the 32GB 5X since I do want more storage, but since I would like to be able to root my phone again and use Xposed, I would still like to hear any other ideas you have for troubleshooting this problem in case it reoccurs.
I reflashed the latest update to see if that would fix it, no dice. When I send the 16GB model back I have to factory reset it anyway, so I suppose I'll know if that does it.
What puzzles me is why I can load text from instagram posts that have been posted while I've been having this problem, but not images. Makes me think that maybe my connection is being super throttled somehow rather than non-functional, but my PC's speeds are normal. Perhaps some internal part is damaged? I do have a case and it hasn't taken any serious tumbles, but it has had one or two small falls from maybe 2 feet high.

It is easy to test if you have some network connection vs none.
In terminal or adb shell
ifconfig wlan0
ping www.google.com
1st command will tell you (among other things) if your wlan picked up an IP address.
2nd command will test whether you can send ping packets over your connection.
I'm sure there are millions of ways of doing the above, I just gave you one example.
Strangely, the solution seems to have come from factory resetting my router. I ruled this out initially because my other old phones were working fine on wifi, my phone is now getting WiFi again.
Now to figure out what the hell this "Power On" toast is about...

I've encountered something similar where the router runs out of NVRAM space because it has recorded too many DHCP clients, it won't hand out new IP addresses, but if you are existing or already have one, it is fine.

lose some settings on reboot

My Note4 died (broke the screen and the phone was kinda beat anyway), so I bought a refurbed one. I had a full TWRP backup of my old one, so I have tried to put the new one together exactly like the old one. QC1 stock ROM, rooted (SU), deodexed, Xposed, TWRP 3.2.3 recovery, 128 GB sdcard with 80 GB as portable storage, and 35.xx GB as adopted storage. Pretty basic stuff. Two odd problems, both occurring on reboot, and a problem with data connectivity.
1. When I change the GPS mode to High Accuracy, all my GPS based apps are happy. But when I reboot the phone, the setting changes back to GPS only. I am assuming there is an XML or conf file somewhere with the wrong permissions. Anyone know where the GPS mode settings are stored, or know a way to fix this?
2. I can move apps to adoptable storage and they work great. I have used the native app2sd, Apps2SD Pro, All-in-One Tools. The apps move, and they run well. However, after a reboot, the moved app is gone. Pieces of it remain, but the apps will not run and must be re-installed. Can anyone point me towards a solution or any ideas?
I live in a rural area, and sometimes I have problems with voice and even sms service at my house. with the new phone, if i switch off WIFI, I get a solid 3G data connection and, while it is slow, it does work reliably. If I drive to where I know there is a really fast LTE connection (20-25 mbps down), about 6 miles away, I cannot get a data connection of any kind. Even if I switch the phone to CDMA only, I cannot get even a 3G connection. I don't understand why I cannot even make a 3G connection. I do have a 10 year old Airave at my house, and maybe that is where the 3G connection comes from. But I would think that would work anywhere. Anyone have a clue on this one?
Thanks very much for reading through this, and for any and all suggestions you may have!
