Verizon Note 4 harware version differences - N910V.05 vs N910V.06 - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got a replacement phone (my last one was so laggy/buggy/overheating even after factory resets)
The new phone (new in box) was a different hardware version then the last one.. N910V.06. Does anyone know what the differences are between N910V.06 and N910V.05 (my old phone)? I can't seem to find any information on the web regarding it..
Thanks,
-mark

BTW - in case anyone's curious.. With the old phone, testing Gear VR - netflix would give me the overheating warning after approximately ~2 minutes.. Now it's closer to ~20-30 minutes. (still not perfect; hopefully 5.1.1 fixes that..)
-mark

I'm also curious about this, I didn't know there were hardware changes made to the Note 4. Mine has been laggy with poor battery life for months now, since what I thought was the Lollipop update but in many ways has always seemed less responsive than my Note 2 and 3. And I did perform a factory reset after Lollipop. Wondering if I should consider sending my phone in for warranty before it expires soon.

So far the new phone is acting much better. (then my last phone after a factory reset).. Still overheats, but not nearly as fast (on gear vr)

horrendous battery life... what's going on here?

OK,
So I have an SM-P600 which I kept completely stock until 2 years after my purchase date (needed the Knox environment for the first two years).
It is fully rooted with TWRP 3.0.0.1 and have been running CM 12.1 for ~3 weeks (prior to that I was giving Temasek's CM13 build a go). Over the last few weeks, the tablet has been getting worse and worse battery life.
Today, I watched it carefully and this graph blew my mind. It didn't make any sense at all, but if I don't have any way to recover from this than this tablet is worth less than the plastic it is made out of.
Is there anything that can be done about this or is the battery in this thing effectively dead at this point?
Thanks

App caches and databases outta control. SD Maid is IMHO the best tool, oversees nothing. The device gets also notably hotter and slower in severe cases. It has to handle dozens of thousands of tiny files. A Windows PC can handle this and much more, an Android device not.

Looking at your graph, that is a substantial drop in a short time. I see its been 2 weeks or so since your original post, if it's still acting in the same manner it may be about time for a new battery. They (the batteries) seem to fail in the note 10.1 2014 editions after 2-2.5 years. The battery is an easy repair, I posted the step by step instructions with pictures after doing mine, that post is here. The battery is worth replacing if its failed (or failing) if you otherwise like your tablet. I do recommend paying for an actual Samsung brand replacement battery and not going with one of the cheaper aftermarket replacement batteries. I went with an el cheapo battery I found on Amazon and it's already showing signs of eminent failure and needs replacement again (only approx. 6 months old).
As for the overheating issue, cm13 seems to run the CPUs at full capacity nearly 100% of the time. CM12.1 is much friendlier on the CPU's and for that very reason I now stick to CM12.1 on mine. Another option (if you haven't already tried it) in the PACMAN ROM. It's another unofficial cm12.1 build. It's operates pretty smooth, relatively few bugs. Heres a link to it http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10-2014/development/rom-pac-rom-lp-mr1-beta-2-t3144252

Hi Wrench,
Thanks for the suggestion. That is effectively the same conclusion I had come to.
However, this is now the 3rd Samsung device for which I've had horrible experiences with between 1.0-2.0 years after purchase. I'll spare you the details, but the only Android device I will be buying from here on out will be a Nexus device.... assuming they have one in a form factor *I* want.
Otherwise, wife just purchased the newest iPad, so I'm using her nearly *4* year old iPad 4 now, which, amazingly, still works. Still hate iOS, but it *actually* does what I need it to do at this point.
Just like Samsung doesn't support their devices... I'm not going to support them anymore.

Nexus devices aren't all they're cracked up to be. I dropped my nexus 9 for an S2 and couldn't be happier. I hate samsung BTW because of their lack of support after purchase, but it doesn't seem like any company is much better. They don't want you to have a device longer than 2 yrs, period. My dad is still using a 9yr old laptop on windows 10 with no problems. Sure it's not as speedy as my 2.5yr old gaming laptop (also on the latest windows OS) but it does what he wants.

How does the OnePlus 3 (and Oneplus as a company) Compare to the OnePlus One

My OnePlus is starting to crap out on me and I'm looking at a OnePlus 3 but I am woried. It seams like there's still QC issues at OnePlus. My first OPO had the yellow screen issue. My current now gets burning hot, its buggy, the power button is glitchy and the battery really craped out in a year instead of 1.5 years like my s4 before it. At OnePlus's price range it seams like they really cut cornors on things you will not notice until you had the phone for a while. I'm thinking I am going to wait for the new nexus but I will be in Shanghai this weekend and may pickup a OP3 if they sell international versions at their china stores.
The hardware is literally the same hardware as most flagships at whatever time. In terms of the Oneplus one, mine still works and flawlessly I may add. I also have a Oneplus 3 now and very minor issues. If I had to say the oneplus 3 brings back the first time they released the one feeling. It's truly a successor to the one (At least my opinion)
So far my only issue :
Bluetooth media buttons don't work in my car (That's literally the only thing I can complain about)

When I say cutting corners on hardware I mean like the quality of the battery cell, wifi chip, ect. I have always had connection issues with T-Mobile.

Not everyone's phone is created equal, even though they came from same vendor. My OnePlus one is still going on strong. No battery issues, no screen issues, no lag, etc... I bought mine on launch. Issues one may experience has a lot to do with how they use their phone also, so that has to be taken into consideration.
As far as the OnePlus 3, also purchased on launch and I couldn't be happier. Great phone, good battery, oxygen OS is doing much better than previous versions, and I use the dual sim to carry my personal number and my work number on one device (att/T-Mobile). I don't have Bluetooth button issues on mine like previous poster, it works fine. Only thing is every three days or so the recentre menu stops working and I need to reboot the phone. On current version oxygen OS 3.2.4

tempted to cancel my note 7 order

Watched multiple videos comparing the snapdragon vs exynos version and the snapdragon version lags like crazy. The iPhone 7 also totally destroys it at opening apps speed. I've always had Android phones but I'm feeling very hesitant to cancel my order. I have an s6 right now and I hate it. Horrible battery, wobbly home button, and it lags etc. I'm not sure I trust Samsung anymore. Seems the note 7 has the same horrible ram management issues. I called Verizon and spent $200ish to upgrade to the note 7 and they want me to send in my s6. What a mess. I already ordered a case and screen protector. I'm just not sure what to do now.
My (snapdragon) replacement is working great and I am not worried if iphone opens an app a millisecond before my note 7. I haven always had android and always will.
I just purchase what fits my needs regardless of brand or OS. In general I dislike Apple at present as the screen tech is lagging so far behind not to mention its even 200€ MORE than the Note 7. I use the S-pen so the Note is for me on this occasion.

Here's something odd. I got one of the first of AT&T's first batch on August 14th. I exchanged it today for a green battery replacement. Configured the exact same way the new one is noticeably smoother and snappier. The previous phone would get jaggy when scrolling and transitioning every once in a while but not regularly. It had the latest update AT&T pushed out after launch (itself an iteration ahead of T-Mobile) which is the same firmware that came pre-installed on the new one. The only difference was the 132ishMB update that made the battery green which I installed right after getting the new phone. So either: A) something I did configuring my old phone slowed it down, B) there's a h/w or s/w difference between the two, or C) there's more to the 132ishMB update than turning the battery green. Regardless I'm even happier than I was with the original death defying phone.
Let me try to help here.
Ill go over my device history quickly.
I started with pdas in 2003 and then windows mobile. I was using an HTC Kaiser when the first Iphone came out.
I switched to Android with the HTC Desire in early 2010. I have mainly been an HTC guy since then with the Desire HD, One V, S, X, One M7, M8 then M9. I have had other devices as back up phones.
My son had a Nexus 4, HTC M8, and now a Nexus 6p
My Wife had an Iphone4 and Ipad 2 then discovered Android with the S3. She upgraded to the Note 4 when it came out. I bought my Mother in Law the Note 5.
My first Tablet was the original Samsung 10.1 then the Nexus 7 and now Nexus 9. I use an Ipad at work as an "EFB" (electronic flight bag). That is what we use for all manuals and plates. I fly the Airbus for Air Canada.
So yeah, I'm a big techie an a "fan of technology". I have mainly been an HTC fan but have experience with numerous other brands including Nexus handsets and Tablets. I feel I am qualified to give an opinion as I am fairly unbiased. Okay, that's not quite true. I am a huge HTC fanboy (who is currently using a Note 7).
So, why did I switch? I'll tell you.
1. Screen size.
Yup, biggest point.
2. Screen quality
Nothing beats Samsung here. I prefer my M7 screen to my M8 or M9 truthfully (colour accuracy) but the Note series (or Samsung in general) beats the Nexus 6p.
3. S pen
My Wife doesn't use hers. I have missed mine since retiring my last stylus phone the HTC Touch (Vogue). Loving it again.
4. Camera
Not the best, but the most consistent. Anand Tech's latest review said the M10 beats the S7 and Note 7 but hey, not by enough of a margin for me.
So, why didn't I wait for the Pixel phone? Quite frankly 5.7 inches of full on screen (no software buttons) makes a huge difference over 5.5. Also, I am willing to bet screen quality is better. Did I mention the S pen?
What do I miss? Well HTC has nailed touch response. The M7 was good, the M9 was the best. The Note 7? Meh. Not bad at all but HTC has it beat. And....Sense. Touchwiz has grown up, but sometimes the changes feel like change for the sake of change. No thought behind why. Sense just makes sense.
But, I love the Note 7. Hands down the best smartphone I have ever had. I am thoroughly enjoying it and I am sure you will to.

I'm loving it.. Seriously... I'm already getting more than 6 hours SOT first charge.... Amazing huh? No lag whatsoever and hadn't got got at all... Even while charging and being on Skype video for an hour. I haven't even disabled any bloatedware yet. There is an update ready though. I hope that doesn't mess anything up.

Or D) the old and new phones are the same (apart from the battery), and a small number of both batches have lag problems for yet-unidentified reasons. You could have gotten one of the bad ones first time, but the second one was good (as the odds favored it to be).
I had a serious UI-lag problem with my first phone too, but not with the replacement so far. It did take a few days for the problem to show up on the first one, so I'm not ready to celebrate quite yet.

Numerous people have said this.
I still have both and decided to rapidly open and close apps using multitasking, copy and paste etc. I have done this same "test" many times comparing HTC models to one another.
I can subjectively (because jamming with ones fingers is far from scientific) say touch response is the same. Apps seem to open the same but general UI speed seem more "fluid" with snappier animations. Also, I have yet to suffer keyboard lag in the second. The first would manifest itself if say Showbox was downloading videos while responding to a text etc. None here.
Some tips beyond the regular developer options and changing animations to 0.5. Use package disabler pro and disable that cheesy cheetah mobile interface (device maintenance). You will have stock battery and storage options, and the entire UI speeds up.
And before anyone asks, device maintenance was enabled on both and developer options stock settings for my "test".
Edit: received my new phone on the 15th so more than enough time for "lag" to kick in.
Edit2: Barry I quoted you but the tips are obviously for the OP.

Question Extreme lag on Exynos model

Hi. I've had the phone for a bit more than two weeks now, and especially the past week this phone has been unbearably laggy. At times, video playback will lag behind audio (not on bluetooth or anything), app transitions are extremely sluggish, and anything to do with camera cannot even come close to sustaining 60fps. I'm not even playing games or doing anything intensive on this phone, just social media and taking pictures here and there. I haven't used any ADB debloating tool due to the fear that it'll break functionality, but if that helps i'll take a go at it. Has anyone been experiencing similar performance issues with the Exynos model? I am seriously regretting "upgrading" from my broken OnePlus 6T, at 3 years old it was so much more performant than my S22. How would I even go about diagnosing this? Thanks in advance.

No, I've set up everything from scratch. I've tried increasing RAM+ to 8GB from the default 4, but it hasn't helped.

I'm pretty sure increasing the RAM+ value, which essentially represents the swap memory, your phone slows down because you're using more of your phone's storage for things the RAM memory should take care of. 8GB is plenty enough for daily usage. There's no need for what Samsung did.
Try turning the feature off altogether with "adb shell settings put global ram_expand_size_list 0"

I've read this somewhere else as well (with how much bloat there is in OneUI I thought maybe they put the RAM+ feature there for a reason), I'll try to run it with 0 for a while and report back. Still, could this actually be the cause for this much stuttering?

Okay, good to know. I'll go through the thread (the message you sent was also helpful, I assumed it'd do the swapping once the memory is full) and debloat this as much as I could. But I still have to ask, is this the performance that I was supposed to expect from an 800€ phone?

I cancelled my preorder of the Exynos S22 because it took too long. I then ordered it from a store that brings international variants of all sorts of phones. My current S22 is from Hong Kong (TGY). What did I notice while using the phone? The battery life is TERRIBLE. I come from an iPhone 13 Pro which I used for almost 4 months but got rid of because of iOS. That thing was insanely good. I had absolutely no worries about the battery wherever I went and no matter what I was doing on it, because it was that good. Before that I used a Pixel 5, which was also the first phone which changed the way I charged my phone. Based on my usage, a full charge lasted me about 85-90% of what the iPhone lasted, so it was pretty close. This thing, TERRIBLE. I rooted it and cut the frequencies of all 3 core clusters almost in half to get half an hour more and get a little over 4h SOT.
So to answer your question, no it's definitely not worth it. I paid for this piece of rubbish 920€. Based on the experience I had so far, I wouldn't pay more than 600€ on it. I even wanted to return it and was looking to go back to a Pixel 5 which I regret selling in the first place, but after taking it out of the original white bumper case, in which I put it the second I unboxed the damn thing, I noticed small scratches all around the aluminium frame, which is supposed to be able to withstand a nuclear blast, based on Samsung's marketing BS. So the store tagged it as non-returnable because it's not "as new" anymore.
In conclusion, this is a terrible phone just because the battery is too small and the chipset is too inefficient for it, incompatible. And you are even "luckier" with your Exynos variant. FYI, Samsung sold SD variants of the S22 lienup in Koreea this time. Probably they didn't want to dissapoint their own people with their experimental chipset.

Hi,
It's true, there are reports everywhere of this problem. Every media app will stutter the image for a milisecond (twitch, instagram, youtube, etc) and the sound gets out of sync. A reboot works only for a couple of hours. Changing the ram will not solve this.
There are a lot of reports of this issue on the members app and they are aware of it. They say a patch will come but a lot has passed and the phone is almost unsuable for me. If I could, I would have return it.
I suggest you also report this on your members app.

Damn, I went through a billion reviews before getting this thing, none of them mentioned this. It's been almost a month since I got the phone so I probably can't return it. And even if I could, I really don't have the time to switch phones, with banking apps and backups and crap it takes too much time for me to just constantly jump between ROMs or phones. Was the S21 this bad as well? How is everyone even recommending Samsung phones to people?
There was an update relased today. I installed it and checked the performace right away.
It's still there! every video starts with a micro stutter. What the hell Samsung...

I just got the update as well. I'll try to install it but from your comments doesn't seem hopeful to actually help the issue. Still nice that they're this fast with updates though.
Side question, does video quality suck for you guys? Especially with the ultrawide, I get 2013-quality videos with a ton of artifacts, and its not even 60fps? (shows up at 41fps on file details).
Galaxy S22 has audio-video sync issues that need to be fixed
Samsung's latest Galaxy S22 flagship series is pretty darn good, but it is not perfect. Some lingering performance and stability ...

Being fan and satisfied with Xiaomi for 6 years, I returned to Samsung (S22, exynos) 2 weeks ago to realize the biggest mistake I did! It charges slow, battery drain fast, multitasking gets slow, camera is disappointing at night and sticky in fast hand motions. Generally you can't count on it!
900€ trash 🫣. I can't even sell it .
Never, NEVER again Samsung.
Agree with everything that's been said here. I returned the s22 exynos and got my money back. I'm back to the s10e snapdragon version that works flawlessly with no lag, stable 60fps at games. The s22 is just a beautiful device but it doesn't work well at all, games suck hard playing on it at like 35-40 fps with lots of frame drops, and I dont think the updates are going to make any miracles with all this experimental hardware. A lot of stupid marketing on useless 4nanometres cpu that overheats and suffers from throttling. Are you kidding me?
I'm very happy with this s10e hongkong version, 3 years, updated to 4.0 and soon 4.1. After trying the s22 I found out that's not for what l had Samsung in mind due to my previous good user experience.
By the way: I debloated it as I know what to delete and what to keep not to lose any functionality. Battery wasn't as bad as other users, I was getting about 5-6h sot in 12-15h usage, but the phone lags bad in games and some menus. It has unforgivable issues as the desynchronized sound/video in youtube n other stuff for such a high price. Samsung ain't getting my money this time. Let's wait for pixel7- s22 Fe - Nothing Phone (1)

ps: I believe it's a bad year regarding CPU. The 888 and 8gen1 are known for heating and eating more battery. So far the s21 series are better than the current s22, the pixel 6 series got some issues as well and yet another experimental CPU. One of the best choices is still the oneplus 8T? Come on. Wake up android market, some oldschool users are migrating to apple, which isn't on my plans personally.
Not that it's gonna change anything, but here's an update: the lag's worse than ever, audio playback will cut out randomly, media playback on the notification panel barely works. I still can't believe nobody outside this thread is talking about how despicable this phone is.
After the latest avda update with tons of debloating, the phone is running almost like a midrange phone.
I will keep it due to the size factor and cameras. But this is really unacceptable for the money asked.

Same here. Way too late to return it, nor do I have the time to go through the whole find a phone set up a phone process anyway. I'm gonna try to keep it as pristine as possible until the S23 and/or the Pixel 7 is out and see if I can trade-in for a reasonable price.
for me, it might be the iphone 14 pro
I'm missing tons of notifications and alarms now. This phone just keeps getting worse.

Question New to pixel device

Hi all I have the Xperia 1 IV which I'm sending back due to overheating and I did have the s22 ultra but sold it
I'm looking at getting the pixel 6 pro and I'm thinking of rooting and flashing custom ROMs ect
Is they anything in place that causes problems (like on Samsung phone Knox,) where if I ever wanted to return to stock I could and it will be as if it was never rooted ect
And how are people finding the pixel now after all the updates ect does the tensor chip hold up (I don't really game)
Thanks

You can return to stock fairly easily, especially if your bootlaoder is unlocked or unlockable. Android Flash Tool is probably your best bet. You can also flash the factory image via fastboot, sideload the OTA and factory reset. There is also a flash tool created by @badabing2003. There are many guides in this forum you can peruse through.
I personally find this phone very good. Opinions will differ, of course, depending on people's experience.
I've had mine since March. The Only issue(s) I had was the fingerprint sensor was a bit laggy, but one of the updates fixed that.
The only "real" issue I've had, as have many, is the modem chip still has a few bugs.
The signal level is a bit hit or miss. On my previous phone, I pretty much has full strength all the time in the area I typically operate in. With the 6Pro, sometimes the signal level drops. Most of the time if you put it in airplane mode for a few seconds, then turn it back on, it corrects. To me, it's a minor glitch that doesn't bother me.
The 6 Pro overheats on warm days too unfortunately. It's been happening a lot lately.
The camera stops working and the phone gets very slow. 5G gets disabled too when it happens.
I think your first mistake was selling the S22U. The second would be buying the 6 pro.
At least wait to see what the 7 pro has to offer. Hopefully it addresses the 6's shortcomings.
I've been using the six pro for 4 months now and didn't have the heatimg or the fingerprints or any other issues.
Solid experience for me, I highly recommend the device
I've had 1 overheat warning (and that was yesterday) but we are seeing shade temperatures up to 40C in the UK at the minute, stands to reason the hardware isn't going to be cooler then the air around it. Any use in direct sunlight even on cooler days has always made my P6P feel really hot in the hand but when you look at the battery temperature it isn't even at charging temperatures.
When the weather is a bit more normal for the UK though i can shoot video at 4K 60FPS without any problems or heating warnings.
