LG G3 freshly rooted just for the Xcam features - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got this phone just recently as a replacement deal from Virgin/Bell (in Canada), LG-D852 running on stock 5.0.1 fresh rooted.
Couple days ago SU and TitaniumBackup, cleaned some vendor’s (Bell, Virgin) garbage also I like the XCam LG features and wanted to install no matter what.
So I finished the cleanup with TitaniumBackup then ran into a problem the XCam won’t save the image files to SD….
Spent some time reading on the net and came across the NextUp SDfix
Also bought the XCam Settings and grab the QuickPic for the album, ES FileExplorer to brows all the way to the root….
Finally somehow managed the rear facing camera clicks (sound) and saves the picture (and I can watch it in QuickPic), but the front facing camera clicks (sound) only and can’t find any track of pictures.
Q:
What is a XCam default install location, maybe the front camera saves somewhere else then the rear, or is it a not finished project?
Do you know for any other known issues with this XCam, I spent a decent time with my basic level of understanding to get to this stage and this app still not fully cooperating with me, I may go back to stock camera if this not moving further.

I have the vs985 with xcam installed. Under settings (gear wheel on main screen in xcam) you can choose storage location, mine is set to sd card. My front facing camera saves pictures to :
/storage/external_SD/DCIM/Camera/
Hope this helps

THX, this what you saying is a default.
I believe something to do with android.

Something to do with interaction between OS and XCam

The XCam was working fine then I installed 2-3-4 other apps (preparing my entertainment for a several weeks road trip), only then the XCam started behaving different.
I have now uninstalled this program (w/TitaniumBackup) and installed a fresh copy and the same but new copy of XCam is all working fine. But, this is important, it is now a latest installed app.
I don't want to troubleshoot in the last moment but I believe some of the apps altering the system variables in some way that the XCam looses an important link and certain features start miss-behaving.
I am not a programmer by any means only a tinkering leads me to this standpoint. I may be wrong but the OS is too much modular so some apps connecting one way some the other and some the third....this android OS shall be a single engine with predefined open ports where-only the apps can connect to....

Latest Cyanogen (7.0.2.), gingerbread camera and other camera apps

Well, I flashed latest Cyanogen mod, but then I found some problems with the phone. I'm not sure if it's really Cyanogen or something else, that's why I'm asking here.
Now, I always liked the default camera that comes with the phone, but this time, I can't find the timer on it. I have checked every single option and - nothing.
I figured that I might try some other camera apps, so far: Camera360, Camera Advance, Camera ZOOM FX and Vignette, they all work fine, but when it comes to saving pictures, nothing happens. I'm using some 3D gallery app, which comes with Cyanogen, I'm not sure what it's called, but it's fairly popular.
Any solution to this?

You mean the picture is taken ok but are not being saved? Have you used a file manager or pc to check the DCIM folder on the SD Card? This is a very unique issue and not specific to the camera apps or the ROM. Let me know re above.

The Gallery 3D app is native to Android. It won't be responsible for the issues.
Sorry for late reply. Yes, the images are shown in gallery, it just reports location as unknown and when I check SD card (I have checked every folder) there are no pictures (even the newly created folders after I change save path) are not shown.
However, after you mentioned that I should check with file manager, I did so and I can see the pictures. But still, nothing on SD card, so I can't access them. I even tried sharing them on Facebook and sending g to my email then downloading, they show up in the gallery but not on SD card when I access it via PC.
What is causing this? PC issue?

[Q] GN8 Gallery data eating up drive space

The Android Gallery app data (Settings/Device Storage/Applications/Gallery/Data) in our GN8 keeps growing. It gets about 50Mb larger each time the tab is turned on or restarted. It doesn't grow while the tablet or Gallery application is in use and overall data usage doesn't increase either.
Here's what I've found...so far:
* Wi-Fi data consumption does not increase. This would be important if this were happening on a smartphone...3G or 4G data cap considerations.
* Sync is turned OFF...everywhere. All syncs are turned off for Google and Samsung accounts, email, internet, etc.
* Google+ and Picassa apps have been turned OFF. Accounts were never created for either one.
* The only Gallery settings (Wi-Fi OFF) are for Tag Buddy and Face Tag. Both have been turned OFF.
* Clearing the Gallery data starts the process all over again. Each subsequent cold boot or restart of the tab results in about a 50Mb increase of the Gallery data...NOT Wi-Fi data consumption. Clearing the Gallery data also resets Tab Buddy and Face Tag settings to default.
I'm starting to think this is some sort of Google-related Gallery pix auto-backup feature. But considering those apps that may be affected by syncing or backing-up of photos are turned OFF, why is this happening at all???
If this behavior is not normal (as designed), how can it be stopped/prevented?
Any advice or recommendations are greatly appreciated.
What exactly do you mean?
As in you clear data then restart the tablet and 50 MB appears? Every time you restart, so just to understand 0 data .... restart 50MB.... restart then 50 + 50 =100 and adding 50MB every restart?
As far as Google+ account goes I believe this is done automatically.
Check out these sites.

I replied to your earlier thread... My fix works well and cleared up the index cache with images.

Yup...that's exactly what's happening. At one time, the data size increased by about 50Mb each time the tab was started, restarted, rebooted. The "50Mb" number changes with the size of the Gallery. That is, if the Gallery has a ton of pictures in it, that 50Mb might be considerably larger. If the Gallery is reduced in number of images, the "add on" data level might be proportionally smaller. Yes, if the data is cleared and starts at 0 (zero), each successive start or restart increases the size of that data that is reported. I have never let the data increase go for any length of time to see if it eventually stops at the byte size of all images in the gallery. From what I can see, it can keep growing indefinitely. Driving me nuts.
I haven't taken the time to review the sites you included but I'll do that right now.
I might add at this time that the tablet IS NOT ROOTED. Consequently, other recommended "fixes" or installed apps could not be considered.
One other thing: we do not have a Google+ account. As a result, Google+ is not used and has been turned off.
Once again, thank you very much for following through with this.

This quite frankly all depends off when you made the Google account, because Google started cramming Google+ down the throats of people that made new account and were not aware of this happening, same goes for me I never signed up for Google+ but when I looked to figure out the problem you are having I came to the conclusion that I had to my surprise Google+
I would go thru every setting/option in your Google account just to make sure.

You might be on to something. We bought the tab in July (2013) equipped with Android 4.1.2 and setup the Google account upon initial startup. A few months later, the 4.2.2 upgrade was crammed down my throat then I started noticing the strange/weird stuff. If my memory is correct, stuff relative to Google+ and Picasa started showing up. Picasa, in particular came up as one of the choices when selecting wallpaper along with the Gallery choices. About that time, I turned off Google+ and Picasa having never setup accounts for either one of them.
Being an Android novice, I started thinking that even though I dropped both Google+ and Picasa they might have retained their default settings that may to this day be affecting how the Gallery works. That being said, keep in mind that I have never seen any spike in Wi-Fi data usage which would have (IMO) indicated the Gallery might be trying to upload pictures to online accounts (Google+ and/or Picasa). The only thing that keeps getting bigger is: Settings > Applications manager > All > Gallery > Data. I believe that some sort of unnecessary caching is going on and I have no idea where the files that are being created are being stored (not rooted).
I made sure that the Google account has EVERYTHING sync-associated (all check boxes) UNCHECKED...from day one. I've seen in more than one forum that there should have been a box to check/uncheck within the Google account settings for syncing pictures. Those suggestions might be for certain Samsung/Android cellphones. On our Note 8.0 there is no such box.
I'm sure I've left out some details but you've been really good at prying information out of me so I'm hoping you have more questions.
So...what do you think? Could the Google+ and/or Picasa accounts been setup without my knowledge? If so, should I go into them and turn everything off or has turning them off already done all that for me?
I'm starting to confuse myself.

Gallery caches & thumbnails can be found here "../mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.sec.android.gallery3d" in My files.
Some folders like will be hidden.
So, change settings in your file manager or in system to display hidden files & folders.
As you suggested, I would indeed just try to log into Google+ and make sure everything is off/disabled, once you are sure disable Google+, and for picassa do the same procedure.
Also take a look at this site http://marcwillmore.com/2013/04/24/...d-albums-from-your-android-jellybean-gallery/ especially the part about "Cloud agent"

@ EnzoS if everything else fails, go to your settings... gallery ... clear data and cache, then turn it off.
After you've done that go to the play store and get Quickpic that is IMO about the best gallery replacement that's out there and best off all it's FREE and AD FREE.

Harjan112: Thank you again for your suggestion. My next step will be exactly as you described. I've heard nothing negative about QuickPic and I can't wait to try it out. I do have one concern, however. I read somewhere, and I think it was in a not-so-recent post that warned about some form of conflict with the tab's camera. I think it said that if the stock Gallery was not available to view a recently-taken picture by tapping the little thumbnail in the lower-right corner of the camera UI, there was no way to quickly view a snapshot because this function might be tied exclusively to the stock Gallery. Have you heard anything in this regard or has the current version of QuickPic overcome this issue?

This is correct, I guess that would be the only downfall.
Check out this camera app that could replace the stock camera, it does have the preview window and you can choose what app you want to use for previewing the pictures.

Well, I gave quickpic a try, still like the Gallery app the best on a tablet. The only way your going to be happy is to root and setup exposed with wanam module at the very minimum. I know, you do not want to void warranty, but you can root without flashing, and completely remove it as well.
Also, quickpic does create some sort of cache, though you can adjust what cache you want to some degree.
I did a side by side comparison with quickness and use, in some ways quickpic seems easier at finding what you want quickly, but the way I organized my media on SD and setup paths to point to them properly, makes both near equals. Though Gallery is faster at bringing up images when quickly scrolling, while both have caching disabled.
Not that I am pro Gallery, just I feel I am going backwards with non-tablet apps over stock.
If I were constantly battling over 500MB of cached images, which can be easily done if left stock, I would lean towards rooting over dealing with app shortcomings.

It's good to hear that you actually have experience with the app in question. So many forum responders have never even used a particular app or have encountered various issues but have opinions and recommendations anyway.
WRT my acceptance of the tab's performance, that's what I was initially looking to find out. Is this phenomenon of the Gallery's data "bloat" what is expected to be happening or do we have a problem that should be fixed? I believe you are saying that this is normal behavior. If so, I'm good with that and will periodically take steps to clean it up...as I have been doing for many months now. If this is not normal, that is, the size of the "data" should reach a plateau and stop growing, I want to do something about it. Otherwise, I'd be perfectly happy to accept it as SOP and move on. No need to go nuts over a non-issue (ha).
Like you, I'd prefer to use the apps that came with the device rather than be constantly looking for something that might be superior to or offer a couple more insignificant features. Although we don't like what they did with the appearance of the Gallery app when the 4.2.2 upgrade was forced down our throats, we're perfectly happy with the way it performs. We don't need anything capable of graphic manipulations on an 8" tablet that the wife uses primarily to play off-line games and to periodically check the weather radar and email. We're in our 60s and don't need another play toy (ha). When we need to perform any high intensity graphics or audio editing, we use the PC with a 22" HD monitor.
One last thing: please check out the screen dump I attached. So there's no more confusion, I have pointed to the reading on the Application Manager screen for the Gallery app that grows every time the tab is started or restarted. I trust we're on the same page with all this.
Very best...

I hope you figure out what's wrong.

I got it that you're using both the apps. Actually, that's probably the only way to see if it's gonna make a difference. I would never suggest that you're making a recommendation without actually thinking (knowing) that it would help the issue.
So...can I assume that you believe there is actually something wrong here or am I just complaining about something that is working properly but not necessarily up to my expectations? If this is the way it's supposed to work, I'm good with it. I'll leave it alone and go on to something new.
Were you able to view the image I attached?
What say you...oh wise one?

Where are the pictures located (internal or external SD card) and how many pictures are we talking?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
Everything is on internal SD. As an experiment, I took the number of pictures down to under 10. Right now, I loaded it up to 239 in 5 separate directories...EVERYTHING in the "Pictures" directory.
I just did a little experiment myself and transferred my pictures from my Note2 to my Note8, 600 some pics on external 64GB SD card, then turned my gallery back on to see what would happen here are some screenshots
Then did a restart
As you can see gallery data goes up but on quickpic it stays the same.

Something doesn't look right at all.
The Note8 comes only in 2 "flavors" 16 or 32 GB internal memory!!!
Something is reporting the size wrong.
You could always give quickpic a try and see what happens.

It looks as though our conversation has attracted (finally) others who might be having the same problem. Thank you for your 2 cents am2010r.
Harjan112: Is it correct that you loaded your Note 8.0 with a bunch more pictures, checked the "data" reading, it was 14.73, then you rebooted and it was 38.50??? If that's the case, it appears that yours is doing what mine is doing: the "data" reading increases (at whatever increment the system wants to) upon each boot/reboot.
If that's the case then I have to assume the system wants to do that and I'll accept it and move on.
Of course, I thank you very much for taking all your time to help me unravel this.

Issues with stock camera and gallery after rooting

So I rooted my LG G3 D855 with towelroot and changed the dpi to 540 (also have xposed, KK gravity box, greenify and others running). It was then when I noticed that I started having issues with the stock gallery force closing on me each time i open it. i want to be able to use the stock gallery app as I have saved all my photos to my SD Card and 3rd party apps are not able to delete items in the sd card due to the kit kat update.
next is the camera. i am unable to touch and focus in the default camera app. i like the stock camera as it takes photos really quickly using the laser auto focus.
any one with ideas on how to solve it, or anyone else with the same issues?

This is because you changed the DPI. Change it back to stock and your issues will go away. The apps crashing has nothing to do with root, it has to do with what you did after you rooted.

guess i have to be very precise. i changed it back to the original dpi, still does not solve my issues.
cleared data and cache of both apps, still remains. finally i decided to check my xposed modules and found that "Swipeback" was causing the issue.
for anyone running rooted and using xposed + swipeback, this will affect your stock camera + gallery apps.

I am having the same issue. Seems to be related to the Auto Hide Softkeys, either that or the G3 Tweakbox.

you need to disable each module one at a time to narrow down the module that is causing the issue. i am thinking it might be the auto hide softkeys. hope you manage to work it out!
I'm having issues on my AT&T D850 while recording video and zooming...if I try to zoom while recording the camera FC's. I can already be zoomed in and record fine...but if I try to zoom out it FC's....any idea's? I'm rooted but that's it, no xposed or anything.

I didn't want to , but I went ahead and bought the Note 5

Just wanted to put this out there for some original Note fans that might have been in the same situation I was in.
I looked at the Note 5 rumors and said i would never buy it , with no removeable battery , no sd card slot and no ir blaster. I was mad that Samsung wanted to copy the iphone "elegant" look. I was even more angry at all of the previous reviewers of the Note 3 and Note 4 who constantly complained about the fake leather look.(rat bastards are the reason the note looks like it does now , most note owners I know loved the original note looks) . BUT when I went looking at the other phones out , HTC , Moto X , Sony and the like , none of them satisfied what I wanted in a phone. I am really addicted to the S pen , and use it regularly. ATT has a 14 day return policy , so I said screw it I will buy the Note 5 and give it a chance.
I am glad I did , I have only had it a few days and man , this is a nice piece of tech. I dont really care for the glass look , but what the phone does is crazy!! Fast charge really took care of the removeable battery problem(it charges insanely fast) Battery life has been great , after turning off the bloatware apps (which was simple enough with out using any app). I spoke with both ATT and the Samsung rep , who said if the battery isnt holding charge good after a year , it would be warrantied and replaced.
Next I purchased the 32gb model , but seem not not need gobs of space at this moment. I take lots of pictures for both work and play , I will just have to be more focused on getting the pictures of the phone than I was before with an added 64gb sd card. I have an otg cable that seeems to work just fine with most thumb drives , so I think I will be fine without the SD card slot.
The IR blaster , is a true loss , guess I will have to use my Note 12.2 for remote duties now.
That being said , I was worried about getting this phone , but as of now I completely love it , and most likely will keep it until the Note 6 comes out.

I'd suggest you consider using google's new "photos" app. It will auto-upload all your photos to a private "cloud", which acts as a wonderful backup. There's an option with it that allows unlimited storage space (for free.) While that might not be as good as a huge sdcard, it also has many advantages (including the ability to access your photos from anything with a web browser without screwing around with sdcards and cables.)
I've changed phones twice in the past week and all my photos are still there and available on my phone - without cables, backups, sdcards, etc.
I think the biggest drawback with the google photo app (when being used on the note5) is that samsung doesn't tie into it with their own gallery app... so anything that's ONLY in the "cloud" won't show in the samsung gallery app.

Yes, but not at the original resolution. So it's not a way to save photos whose quality you care about.
Flickr, on the other hand, lets you cloud-sync 1 TB of photos in full resolution, for free.

They are at the original resolution. Google does recompress them, but it's pretty good.. I haven't noticed any artifacts from their recompression.

No, they're not. If you upload at original resolution, you only get 15GB free at Google (compared to 1TB at Flickr).
Just look it up. Look under "How much does it cost?", and click on "Learn more":

Go ahead and read it yourself. I'll wait for you. BTW, being this is the "note 5" forum, read it in context of the note 5. Remember that the max resolution of the note 5 camera is 16 megapixel.
Back from reading?
Good. Google photo's does NOT resize photo's that are 16 megapixel or smaller. They DO resize larger pictures to 16 megapixels. They also will probably recompress all images uploaded.
Have a nice day.

No, that's not what Google says. "If the camera takes photos with 16 megapixels (MP) resolution or lower, most stored photos will essentially look the same using either storage option." (emphasis added).
If you're satisfied with "most" photos looking "essentially" the same, then I'm happy you've found a cloud option that meets your needs. But people who don't want to throw away some of their photos' detail should be warned--especially since there's an alternative free option without that drawback.
Wow.... um... if I really care about the photos, I take them with my dslr and upload to deviantArt. Phone photography is just for quick and fun stuff. After looking into it, both Google and Flickr seem fine.
I'm on the same boat with this phone, I have the Note 1, and Note 3 which I use now and the no root has me on the fence about getting it. I can live without custom roms , and custom recovery, but I don't know if I can live without rooting it, I need ad blocker and root explorer, but hey maybe we'll get lucky and get it soon.

I am on my second Note 5 and am once again experiencing a faulty device. The first device had a faulty WiFi module. This second device has these weird smudges under the screen only visible in sunlight.

My first device was also faulty. It had a bad BlueTooth madule where the BlueTooth signal was very very week. My current device is now perfect.

I'm with you, this phone is great except I am really missing ad blocker and root explorer. Hopefully we get this thing rooted soon. Also I was reading the note 5 will be one of the first phones to get Marshmallow.
Bootloader locked. Knox'ed up bigtime. The AT&T Note 3 I traded for the Note 5 NEVER got true root, and they blocked the "sorta" root we had with an update.
Don't want to trash anyone's hopes and dreams, but the reality of the situation is the AT&T variant is 99.9% guaranteed to NOT get rooted. So if that's what you need to make you happy, don't get the AT&T variant. If you get the AT&T variant, don't do it with a false hope it's going to get root at some point.
You can disable some of the bloat with Package Disabler Pro, and there are a couple of ad-blocking apps you can get outside of the Play Store. That's the best you're going to do.

Semi-forced into a non-rooted phone for work, also at the same time my MDL firmware'd S4 started acting up, so went ahead and made the plunge. It's a cool phone, but similar to above, the initial shock is not having ad-away, root call blocker, and tasker/ti-backup, along with a few other minor issues. But, I knew going in the ATT was crazy locked down, but requiring Good Word/Good Access made it a non-issue anyway.
I've bought Package Disabler Pro, and am looking for a decent non-root call blocker solution (other than adding to contacts and assigning silent ringtone), as well as backup needs. TiBack of course is out, but I've been reading about one called Helium that does basic backing up without root. Tasker will run without root of course but you loose Secure Settings root actions ie toggling GPS, Airplane Mode, lock screen settings, etc .
Also, oddly enough this damn Good Work app can trigger non-compliance even if not rooted - still working that out but some apps will trigger a wipe even on a non-rooted phone - Chainfire's 500pics is such an app, a very cool wallpaper changer. Not sure if it's reading the app dev as Chainfire makes a lot of root apps, or if the app itself might have some root strings that aren't used but Good picks up on, or what - but it kinda sucks.
I wish there was an app list of apps known to cause issues with Good and their compliance rules - each time it triggers I have to uninstall and get a new key. Luckily out Good Admin is a good guy, he gave me several keys so I can experiment some this weekend with some apps I haven't installed yet. Tasker, I *think* will be ok as long as I don't install Secure Settings, or at least I hope so. I have a ton of Tasker work and it would really suck to not be able to use it anymore.
Another thing I'm missing is profiles, I've run CM for so long that I guess I though every rom had them, but touchwiz not so much. May have to loo at a non-root profile app if I can get Tasker going... of course without root it may not even be useful...

You got call blocker baked in the phone settings. What for do you need root call blocker. Power toggles works better for toggles.

Actually yes I just found that soon after i posted, and have added numbers from my RCB backup. That was one nice thing about RCB, you could maintain lists, etc, schedules (not that I used schedules), etc. But baked in version should work fine for my purposes.
I'll look at power toggles - My situation is somewhat odd, in that my workspace is a protected data center with zero, and I mean zero cell service, gps signal, etc -so if you don't turn those off/go into airplane mode, etc it just eats up battery, so I have tasker profiles/task that autos detect when I'm arriving/leaving/etc - it's more complicated that as I'm aslo setting variables for other conditions/tasks that may fire based on location, etc. that but I won't bore anyone. Tasker made it easy, though .
Still on my first note 5 , no trouble at all.
For call blocking if you want an app I have had great luck with call control, huge blacklist that is community driven.
I have had no trouble disabling apps in the phone itself , including the kindle app. Didn't need to download an app to turn stuff off.
TouchWiz is pretty slick this time and really doesn't bother me at all. The themer that is built in works great and I am running a great dark theme. As far as rooting goes , I am 50/50. I gave up on it cause AT&T locks the phones down hard and partly because I really don't need a custom rom anymore. Most of the things I looked for in a rom are now on the phone stock. Even got the gear s2 to go with it and still get a days use out of battery, without any special apps or root.

So no issues wit Tasker, which is good, but without secure settings it does limit it's use, ie no GPS, no Input Mode, No AP radios/mode, etc. Looking at AutoInput, but seems like GPS/Airplane Mode control is gone.. .

Question Assistance with the Oneplus 9 Pro Photos App

Last week I updated my OP9 Pro to the latest version c61. Everything works fine, but the Photos App is basically useless.
What I mean by this is when I go into the Photos App everything is "blank". When I go into file explorer and go into the DCIM of pictures folders I have I can view the thumbnail and even open up any image and view it, but if I try directly from the Photo's app it's just showing like a blank transparent black box.
I have a 2 part question.
1. Has anyone experienced this before, and if so, how did you fix it? I really don't want to wipe my entire phone because everything else works fine.
By the way I tried clearing cache storage for the app under app info and tried disabling, rebooting my phone and reenabling and no luck.
2. What is a good Photo's/Gallery replacement app to the stock one?
A few features that I would like if possible:
No ads
minimal/simple functionality (I don't really care about extensive photo editing. Really just cropping and flipping photos if necessary)
If you can hide certain gals that a plus, but not necessary
A lot of the replacement gallery/photo apps I have seen have a lot of ads and I don't want to deal with that.
Thanks in advance!
Hi, whilst I've never experienced the issue you have in question 1, have you tried to add an album? When you take a photo on your phone camera does that appear? ( Both in the camera and your gallery) as for an alternative I personally use Google photos as it just works.
Thanks for your response and sorry for the delayed response. It's a really odd glitch.
If I take a picture and open it at that moment it will display fine. Also if I go into a file manager and open it I can view it fine. But if I go into my photos app it's blank. I ended up downloading a couple other photo apps and they open up all my media fine without any issues. It's a really bazaar glitch but seems to only be with the oneplus photo app with the newest c61 update.
I'm not sure if I can remove the stock photo app from my phone because I believe it's a system app and the only option I have is to disable it, but I was thinking of trying to remove it from my phone and reinstalling it from scratch.

did you already clear cache and storage of the app?
maybe you denied a required access right by accident?

Yes I did that and also checked to make sure all proper permissions were granted.

strange.
I mostly use the google photos app. not sure if this is an option for you, but it should check all the marks from the initial post.
Thanks, I should look at it. I'm not sure if google photos backsup your stuff by default, or you can just turn off that feature. I feel like with that feature enabled I would quickly run out of the limited space google gives you as it is so you would be forced to upgrade to get more space.

I think it is turned off by default or at least asks you.
but you can definetly turn the backup off manually.
it gives you 15gb incl. shared between google drive, gmail and photos I think.
for me this is still enough, but I also backup at my home cloud.
