Brutal lag when accessing contacts - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, I had a quick scan of the threads and couldn’t see it.
Anyone else having issues accessing Contacts on G4 ? I presently have circa 300 contacts, all sync’d from Outlook, so they are quite detail heavy, some pics, many notes etc….
Whenever I go to access the Contacts it can take 10-12 seconds for the list to appear. I wondered if it was to do with the volume of contacts, so I removed 300 (as had 600 before), but it didn’t make any difference at all.
The ‘online search’ function is unchecked. The rest of the phones functions are working lightning fast, just the Contacts.
LG’s only suggestion is to “factory reset the device and try again” – brilliant.
I've already deleted all contacts and re-sync. Pretty much all apps have their contact sync turn off. Nothing I do seems to make any difference.
Any help / suggestions much appreciated. I’m at the point where I’m going to ditch it and go back to Samsung (I should never have strayed, grass is always greener etc…).

I hate to tell you this, but a factory reset will most likely fix this issue.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I had the same problem, and was resolved after a factory reset.

Did you tried to clear data??

Data clear didn't help sadly. Suspect I'll need to bite the bullet and factory reset.

Please sir if u know about how to downgrade lg g3 stylus

I had the same issue also. I think for me the lag was caused by having so many duplicate contacts even though they were merged. I uses contacts cleaner to some success but logging in to gmail and going to contacts then deleting duplicates seemed to do the trick. After that was done I made a vcf backup just in case, deleted all contacts then synced them again. Its lighting fast now.

Major TP2 Woes

Hello all,
I'm really sorry if this is the wrong place to post this,
but i'm just so frustrated right now and I can't find anywhere else.
So I got my Touch Pro 2 about 6 or 7 months ago. It worked perfectly
for the first few weeks. Then every now and then when I went in and
out of messages a little to often it would brick and I would be forced to
reset it. It kept getting worse. I have to use the quick message (type contact
every time) because i'm afraid going into the threaded message view will brick the phone. The reset count is getting ridiculous. Today alone I have had to reset it four times.
I've noticed in the past month it has been lacking facebook compatibility and
me trying to figure out why has resulted in it bricking many times.
First of all, when i first got the phone i linked all my friends' profiles and set up their profile pictures. But when i added new contacts I couldn't add their facebook account. And I haven't been able to update pictures from friends
that are already connected. So today i decided to hit the logout button on
Data connections. It logged me out and then i logged back in to find most
of the connection between people and facebook entirely gone and all of the profile pictures gone.
All in all it's just plain ridiculous that I can't A - message properly or B - use the facebook compatibility, both of which are things that should just work and not brick my phone. I really hope there is some setting or registry value I can tweak to make it all better. But i realise that is naive so i won't get my hopes up.
Thanks in advance,
Ben
Realistically the only real fix for that is to just back it all up and do a hard reset (wiping it back to the default configuration). It'll be back to how it was when you got it.
Alternatively you may wish to install a HardSPL and flash a new (better?) ROM instead, but that's up to you. Either way it'll require a hard reset though.
first go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550131
then pick from one of the roms posted. see which one you prefer. i use energy cookie. ive heard great things about its facebook and twitter apps. messaging itself is on point as well.
heres a link to some roms

Gmail email delete problem

Lately, as I delete emails after I have read them within the Gmail app, they will show back up in the Inbox a little while later, sometimes as new/unread mail and sometimes showing as unread emails in the Inbox counter but not actually showing in the Inbox.
I've done several things to try and fix it:
- Went into Applications and cleared the caches (problem eventually comes back)
- Cleared the caches as well as uninstalled the Gmail updates then reinstalled from Market (problem eventually comes back)
I've searched through the forums and can't find where anyone has written about having this issue or resolving it. Has anyone here run into this and if so, how did you go about resolving it?
Thanks!
I have the same problem. Did you manage to solve this issue?
No "final" solution that fixes it...just have to keep doing the 2 steps I wrote about and the problem goes away for a while.
It happens maybe every 2 weeks and seems to pop up when I haven't gone into Gmail and emptied my trash from within the Gmail site for a while. Also seems to come back if I read through emails too quickly; maybe an issue with reading and then deleting on the phone before the phone can push back to the server that it's been read...just guessing.
Sorry...

Go to manage applications, find GMail then force stop it. clear cache and then clear data. Reopen GMail and set up the label sync etc how you like it and should be good. Hope this works for you, let me know.
Thanks ifly! Haven't tried the force stop part before so I just did it. I'll report back if anything comes back.

No problem at all. Hope it fixes it. I have this happen quite a bit after a nand backup or restore. When I do a nand restore i always wipe data/factory reset, then cache and davlik now and that seems to fix the problem. Not sure what is getting hung up in the data to cause this.
That's what's been bugging me as well...I do all the wipes when I do a nand restore or load a new rom but Gmail always seems to go back to this stranger behavior. I looked all over these forums (and others), hoping someone had at least seen the same thing but to no avail.
UPDATE: Started having the same issue with Gmail. Was honestly hoping the last suggestion would help...guess not.
Any other ideas...anyone?
Login to gmail from a browser.
Click settings and then "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab
Check the settings there. I have both pop enabled and IMAP.
What are yours set to?
I've got them both enabled as well.
hmmm not sure what the deal is then...strange.

I'm having similar issues as well. I would get an email notification, open gmail, read it, delete it. Few minutes later, it shows up as an unread email but does not appear in my inbox. If i go to my "all" email box, it's there. I also still see it on my desktop PC. It finally goes away when I delete it from my PC. Another major problem that has not been mentioned here is that I cannot send an email from my EVO using the gmail app. It just keeps sitting there in my outbox. Very frustrating.

[Q] "Account wasn't found. It may have been removed." - Exchange Server

Hi all - I searched for references to this issue, but haven't found anything yet. Hope someone here can help.
I've been using my Galaxy Nexus (LTE / Verizon) since mid December, locked, unrooted, vanilla - and it's been great. I've been using the native email apps for my GMail account and my work/corporate account on our company's Exchange Server. All has worked perfectly so far. First sign of something weird happened last night.
Last night I backed up, rooted and unlocked my GNex (using the WugFresh utility). I followed the directions closely -- all worked pretty much perfectly. As suggested, I took 2 backups: first without system apps and settings, and the 2nd including them. After I was done rooting and unlocking, I restored the big backup with system apps and settings. Only thing I noticed is that passwords are apparently not part of the settings that can be saved/restored (makes sense!), so I had to reenter credentials for my email apps.
This done, I sync to both GMail and Exchange Server, receive and send mail just fine. Only weird thing is that when I tap the EMail icon to start up the email client that talks to Exchange Server, in addition to opening up my inbox properly, I ALSO see two error messages in sequence:
"Account wasn't found. It may have been removed."
and
"Folder wasn't found. It may have been removed."
The errors then fade, and email is perfectly usable.
I'm guessing that some folder and account entry was restored along with the apps from my backup, and that whatever these pointed to no longer exist, and were superseded by they email app when I reconnected to the Exchange Server during setup after rooting / unlocking.
I've looked - and only see a single account configured in the app -- the correct one. I've checked in Settings / Apps, and there are no options to clear data or cache.
I'm wondering if I should delete the one account I see and re-add it...not sure if that will make a difference.
Anyone have a clue what's going on, and what I might do about it?
thanks in advance,
Jon

In the end, I wound up doing a factory reset on the phone. I was tempted to delete and recreate the account, but I'm convinced there was a phantom (non-existent?) folder / account that the email client kept trying to refer to and that this would have persisted. A factory reset cured the issue, and this time I did NOT restore my entire backup including system apps and data. Instead, I let Google Play and Amazon App store reinstall 99% of my apps, leaving me 3 or 4 that I had to do by hand. In the end it didn't take long at all to do this, and result is a happy Galaxy Nexus once more.

Hi, just wanted to let you know what the solution was in my case. I was messing around with everything, wasting two full days with about 100 times recreating the account, trying to restore/replace Mail/ExchangeServices app/data in various different ways, factory reset, reflashing system, etc. etc. ... nothing helped!
Finally, a few minutes ago I got it: Just recreate the stupid homescreen link! I never thought about trying to start the Mail application via "all apps". If I did (earlier), I would have seen (earlier) that the message does not appear then. It only appears when starting it via my homescreen link, which is actually a widget (looking like a normal app link), configured to open a certain folder of a certain account. So the actual problem was just that this widget could not find the "old" account anymore (probably because some account id changes if an account is deleted and recreated). The reason I've been fooled over and over again (even after factory resets and system flashes) is because I always restored my homescreen stuff in one way or another, so I always used the same old broken link.
D'OH!
Hope that next time someone comes across this issue this post will help. Currently there seems to be no (other) solution to this on the internet. At least I did not find anything in the past two days.
Thanks for posting an easy solution!

Thank you so much. I just had to recreate my account settings (5 of them since Ihave corporate but also use exchange settings for hotmail) and hated to see this message (and a second one similar but about a folder who could not be found). I removed the icon on the home screen and put the Email app (not the widget to avoid the same problem in the future) back and not more error! I really did not want to reset my phone.

[Q] Contacts Storage: Clear Data - Exactly what does this do?

Context:
Verizon Galaxy Nexus, Stock ROM, Android 4.1.1.
When I check in Settings...Accounts...Google...
It shows a Sync Error for my account. At the bottom of the screen it says:
Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly.
If I then click on my [email protected]
All of the entries are checked and properly synced, and up to date, except Contacts. It says 'Last Synced 4/20/2012..."
Despite this, Contact additions or edits that I make on my phone do in fact get synced to my other devices. And Contact additions or edits that I make elsewhere do get synced to my phone.
So, this appears to be a faulty error message. Since everything is working right, I'm reluctant to do anything major to try and clear the message, for fear of actually creating a functional problem. And yet, it bugs me that it's there.
One of the frequently suggested solutions is to go to Settings...Apps...Contacts Storage...
And once there, hit "Clear Data".
So my question is what exactly happens when "Clear Data" is hit? I want to eliminate the potential for inadvertently deleting my contacts overall, don't want to create new problems, etc., so would like a little more information about what this does or doesn't do.
And, if someone has any insight on another way to get rid of this message, that would be appreciated as well.
Thanks!
Anybody have any information here??
Thanks.
Try this
Hi, i face the same problem. After few hrs search in Internet, I found a way to solve it, so far it works.
Go to Google Play and install this apps: Contacts Sync Fix
Run the apps
Go to setting, open Google account and try to sync again.
It should be OK then.
Hope it helps.

Very interesting! Looks like it just came out this month. This is an incredibly common problem, if you read Google's "support" forums, which I find hard to believe how this is such a core function of the whole Google enterprise.
I wonder what this App is doing behind the scenes, or actually how it does it. All of the reviews so far are very positive, although there are only 11 of them at this time. I'll probably monitor this for a bit, and then try it out.
Thanks!
I exchanged a quick email with the Author, and went ahead and installed and ran the Contacts Sync Fix App. It identified a single problem, fixed it, and my error message is now gone, and sync continues to work fine. I went ahead and bought the ad-free version for $.99 - I have no idea if a problem will recur in the future, but I'll now be able to fix it. And besides, he fixed something Google has been unable or unwilling to do!
This solved my same problem

Contacts always crashing the phone

Hello, I have a stock z1 compact and in the last 2 months every time I try to access the contacts or make a call the phone or contact app crashes making it a nightmare to make calls.
I have cleaned the cash, reinstated the full phone to factory, nothing works, anyone has a solution for this? Or an idea on why this happens? Is it the sync on LinkedIn and Facebook contacts?
Thanks for the support
Anyone?
No idea, never heard of it.
In any case, try to reset again and only sync google contacts, leave LinkedIn and Facebook away. If it still works, add either Facebook or LinkedIn and check again. If it still works add the third one and you might know the reason.
I there thanks for the idea I tried it yesterday actually and keeps doing the same thing I think I might go for a rom instead of stock. Can I do this having a branded phone?
You can do that, but I still wonder why it happens.
What exactly happens? Do you get the option to submit the data to google?
Which release are you currently running on the phone?
It just appears the damn error message of a app crash saying that the contacts application crashed and asking to close it.I am the latest version. Thanks for your help
Probably it's some contact which has some weird letter/symbol in his address. Maybe you could check all your contacts in gmail, if you synchronize it. But yeah, no idea why this is really happening.
Hehe damn computers! Well Thanks nevertheless for caring very much appreciated
