When I buy a new phone I spend like days trying all roms (or at least main ones) and looking at features and optimization
I usually don't care of battery, I think there is no such system that save battery without losing performance, and because I'm a more performance oriented user, just don't look at battery and charge anytime is low....
Viper rom is crazy, so many features, options, system is very smooth, but IMO the more tweaks and mods a rom contains, the more things are screwed up inside, or at least gives me that impression. I can't say is not stable, but I find a stockish rom smoother....
and because I am a stock look guy, I have to say that out of the box the rom has already some graphic tweaks that doesn't make me feel home, and this is kinda annoying for me....but if you are a mod fan, flash this and you will never have to flash anything else haha
Android Revolution is the main referral for stock rom, very good, but....meh, I am an htc user since sensation, and is not as optimized as 4 years ago...
cyanogenmod and candy (based on cm source, so is almost the same) are nice, I can't stay without sense, but they are working.
cyanogen didn't give me any "wow" effect, stock always seems smoother and faster, but I think is only matter of time...early development
ICE is a very good rom for an experienced dev, but doesn't catch me for some reason.
and at last...the one I am using now....maximus HD....this rom comes from llabtoofer, which is the main leaker from htc and a very experienced dev, rom is always smooth and stable. since is the only one I usually keep I can give you a feedback, and is not so great, I have always 3h or even less screen on (with android wear all the day), but keeps up for 20h (my day)....since I don't use the phone so much keeps up longer with less screen on time
I'm missing only leedroid which has his own custom kernel, so is interesting, I think I will try it today or tomorrow ...
I have to say I was a SkyDragon user on m8 and m7 and would like to see that rom updated here, which was definitely the faster on other phones

Lee droid and candy

I would say sky dragon ,pyrano or ice are my favorites tried them all and think pyrano be my favourite about of the 6 I tried

Hi guys I'm after trying g a non sense Tom which one is the most feature packed and working great as I'm not sure which one to flash

[Q] Which ROM should I use? What's the best ROM?

I want to try to determine what is the best rom 2.09 Froyo - based for HTC Desire.
In the last week I've tried a large number of ROMs. I've really liked 2 of these:
- Roufianos V6 (It's the one that I'm using at the moment)
- OpenDesire 3.0.4 (I know that the 3.0.5 is out but I haven't tried it yet)
Obviously there are many other excellent rom but I haven't got the time to try them, such as:
- Alex V1.1 official OTA cooked by Paul from MoDaCo (I've not tried it yet but I thing it is good)
- Lambros Custom Rom r3.1 --- I've tried it: in my opinion it's the best. Very fast, stable, no problem, no crashes. The chef always helps you and give you what you ask him! Fantastic! (link hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745447 )
- Pays-ROM
- Others....
Well, I don't know what is better.... can you help me choosing a ROM please?
If you thing that there are better ROMs instead of the ones that I've written, please tell me about them.
Thanks to all.
GiO

IMO this comes down to the "SENSE UI",
you wanna have SENSE and all the HTC bells and whistles? LeeDroid 1.8 or Neophyte NextSense 4.0
you don´t give a damn about SENSE (like me)? OpenDesire 3.0.5 is just AWESOME.
Both options are really good but it´s a question of personal preference I think.

has Leedroid gotten rid of the SD card bug now? i found a lot of bugs with 1.7 in fact i would go as far to say it was the worst rom i have tried (and i have flashed nearly all within the last 2 weeks.
i use neophyte nextsense aswell its v good. i haven't used a non-sense rom since the defrost one which was using the nexus froyo (back in june i think).
however from looking at the 'post your screenshots' thread in the themes and apps section i'm tempted to go back to non-sense as some of the roms and mods make it look really cool.

Neophyte 1.6. You will not go wrong. If you think those other roms are good, you will ejaculate in your pants with a neo Rom. I think that first neophyte Rom comes down to a fluke of nature. His latest Rom nextsense is good and I enjoy playing. But the occasional bug. Still better than anything else I believe.
I prefer modaco official version.
Neophyte 1.6 as said. You will not find a more stable or better ROM imo.
why don't you give a go on my rom....i saw you haven't mentioned it....
the latest r3.1 version is as stable a rom can be and i have 2 versions.....one if you want all the HTC apps and one with HTC Sense but without the apps, just launcher, widgets and main apps (people, dialer, mail, calendar)

believe me i tried a lot roms and not cause it's mine but cause it's true you will like it a lot...STABLE AND FAST....battery life is on the good side...i was on holidays last week for 7 days and i charged the phone just once (light use though, 10-15 calls, 20-30 pics daily and a couple sms) and in 7 day night i had to charge again...with medium-high use you can get 1.5 days if you charge properly....
BUT ANYTHING anyone says is not true until you try something...this is what i think....it may work on you and don't work on me who knows

What about the battery? How often do you have to charge the phone? In every rom I've tried the battery sucks!
as for the battery i think you can't compare it just right when you flash the rom....myself i do one full charging cycle and then rate a rom's battery life in order to get the full idea....
flash the rom, charge it till 100% (unplug before discharge) and then see how it does

hi lambrospower. I am just downloading your rom and will give it a try mate. Going back to your battery comment, this is a question that i have been thinking about for some time, but never got around to asking anyone, i hope you may know the answer for me? Since i have had my desire (3 months) the only way that i have ever charged it is with USB. Maybe once i have done a full charge with the 240v adaptor, the rest of the time it is plugged into my PC either charging or as a disk drive, my question is, will that make a difference to my overall battery performance? because i havent been charging it with the mains adaptor will my battery be "weaker" than a person that has always used the in-wall charger? I seem to get really bad battery life with most roms that i have tried (and believe me, i have tried a lot!!) yesterday i went out for a few hours, around 3 hours, battery was at 100% when i left, 3 hours later 55%!! now in my eyes that is a hell of a lot of decrease...... This was with NeYophyTeNexTSense rom (but i cant fault NeYo, he is a good chef, hats off to the lad, this is why i think its me thats either doing something wrong (settings) or it is in fact a battery problem??
Hi guys, I really like OpenDesire, but it's stock Google ROM (or based thereon) so it's got no FM Radio functionality. A question to all users of stock ROMs: how do you guys cope with the absence of an FM Radio knowing that hardware-wise your Desire supports it but the software does not have it? As for me personally, I've been tilting back and forth between OpenDesire-like ROMs and SenseUI-like ROMs, and it's still bugs me. On the one hand, I love the stock ROM for its cleanliness and overall looks (without Sense bells & whistles), but that I don't have the FM radio keeps bugging me like hell. Can anyone share their experiences?

Is MIUI stable/reliable for daily use?

Just got my brother a Desire. He is new to Android.
On all of my Android devices, I've never used MIUI, but he likes the iOS look.
I have just installed the MIUI-XJ on it, and it does seem very sleek and I love how it just seems like a totally different phone but my concern is if it would be stable enough for him to use daily? He would be leaving the country and doesnt know how to mod and such. That being said, he needs something reliable.
I think its either MIUI or coolexe's new BravoS ROM, with Espier launcher installed.

yes... its very much reliable n fast rom as compared to other roms.... i m using it for last 3 months..... near zero fc... very unique look.... very much customizable... m in love with miui xj rom.
Very much indeed, it was my best Rom with loads of support. Teach him how to update OTA from MIUI and tell him to read MIUI thread. Within a month he will be addicted to flashing every week. Also, I recommend to use class 6 SD card with EXT4 with 1.5 Gb. For enough space to install apps

Ive been running MIUI for 4 months now and its really stable. However I recommend MIUI AU instead of XJ, I've tried both and AU seems alot more slick. If you want to migrate just use the MIUI backup app and then flash AU and then restore from backup. Everything will be restored exactly as it was apart form widgets.
I also recommend using ManU 1.4 HAVS-AXI-CFS. from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883598
TLDR: yes its stable but try MIUI-AU
Another vote for MIUI-AU (miui-au.com). Been using it for over 9 months without any problems.
I have switched to other roms every so often to see what's changed but I'm always going back.
MIUI is very stable. Up until previous week I was still using the version from a month ago. The weekly changes are usually small bug fixes and translation updates.

What exactly do you mean? I'm using XJ's build for almost a year now and am very satisfied with everything. I'm using MAN U 2.0 HAVS/AXI GB kernel... Everything from battery life to phone performance and smoothness is awesome. And there is no lag whatsoever, just sometimes when I download and install apps and do some multitasking there might be some slight freezing until the app is installed.

I think they're referring to the ICS version which is due out soon. 1.12.30 is still gingerbread so you'll be fine using that.

IMO. No.
Don't.
New updates come out every week fixing bugs every week.
If he wont be updating it, dont use it. Having said that MIUI is awesome. But not for the average user.
Give him CM7. Its very stable and has been for the last 4 months solid stable, with no need for an update to fix bugs yyet.

[Q] HTC Desire - Girlfriend ROM and apps?

I just bought the SGS2, and my girlfriend is getting my old HTC Desire.
She tried it for a week, with Oxygen ROM and while generally happy with it, she was underwhelmed and annoyed with a few of the more obvious warts of stock android 2.3. The crappy dialer and the crappy keyboard, to name a few.
I then installed a lot of GO apps on it, GO Launcher EX, GO Dialer, GO Widget etc.
While these are in some respects better, they have other issues.
I am now considering if a ROM with Sense would be a good compromise for her. I will not give her the latest stock 2.2 ROM from HTC, I want her to have 2.3. So it would have to be a 2.3 ROM with Sense on it. And I don't even know which version of Sense. I have only really worked with the one in the stock 2.2 ROM from HTC. I think it is Sense 1.9?
So, can you guys recommend a 2.3 ROM with Sense or a 2.3 ROM and some good core apps (dialer, keyboard, sms/texting etc.) that is girlfriend-friendly?
Thanks in advance
I'd recommend one with the Sense 3.0.

why you pointing to external link when we have a development section full of nice a great ROMs?
I would recommend a ROM with Sense 2.1/3.0 (Hybrid) because the Sense 3.5/3.0 ROMs are a bit too much sometimes for the Desire as I read and heard (in case of lags and so).
But Runnymede is recommended very often.
So I would go with Revolution or InsertCoin which I self am using since a few months and i'm quite happy with it.

And I really dont get the point why you always have to bash the other Roms except Supernova's. Supernovas Rom sure is great but there also other good ROMs (even with Sense 3.0/3.5). They are maybe that not stable and so on but the Users also have different preferences. For some eye-candy is the most important feature, for other it is stability and speed.

Not that I don't bash just supernova, I don't bash either of the Sense 1.9 roms, aosp roms, or even roms which are broken and are advertised as such.
And I have no beef with roms or their developers, but with idiots that turn every rom recommendation thread into this. OK, you're free to do whatever you want, but you can't come and write "Sense 3.5/ICS , this, this, this and this doesn't work, but it's perfect".
As far as I'm concerned, the scale goes like this: unusable - bad - average - good - perfect. I hope meaning of perfect is self explanatory?
If the op states that he is giving away his phone, Sense 3.5 roms don't have nothing to look for here. Giving away phone with some of it's features severely limited is insanity.
It is you Sense 3.5 users who mixed up priorities here, not I. If the thread was titled "most eyecandy" rom I'd be silent.

I wasn't giving the OP a recommendation for a Sense 3.0/3.5-ROM, I was recommending him a Hybrid (2.1/3.0). And this I can do with pure conscience because the ROM I'm using right now (InsertCoin) is way faster than the Stock-ROM that was originally on the Desire and i havent experienced anything thats not working yet (no reboots, no failures, ... everything is working fine).
Yeah, maybe the Sense-ROMs you are not bashing are a bit faster than the ISC and Revolution Hybrids but there you have an uglier ui, so you have to balance.
Maybe you should testing a Hybrid for yourself because now you are just assuming things.

I want her to have 2.3, and there is no good official 2.3 ROM from HTC. So I guess I might as well try a girlfriend-friendly 2.3 ROM, preferably one that "just works" and that I don't have to help her with a million times. If you can recommend such a ROM, it would be great.
I agree with you that eye candy is not the most important thing here. Usability and stability is. Unfortunately, stock android have usability issues with simple things such as the dialer and the keyboard. And Android 2.3 is a must.
I will never buy her an iPhone, so that's not an option.

I did that, when they were popular, IC was on my phone for a whole 15 minutes before restoring nandroid backup of my AuraXTremeGinger I used at that time. You can feel when it was placed in past. Best rom for battery life?

I have been searching the web for the hands down best rom for htc one x concerning battery life. It really does not matter what the pros/cons are with the rom, all that matters is that the battery life is the best. So what rom & kernel should i go for?
My research have shown that the clean rom is probably the best for battery life, but i have the INTERNATIONAL version, not the at&t.:silly:
I've seen many people achieving good battery times with sense ROMs such as ARHD. I personally use IceColdJelly by LordClockan with n3o kernel, have undervolted by 125mv and I'm quiet happy. Yesterday I achieved 18h of total up time, of which 5 hours screen on time, brightness less than 20%, 3g always on, manual sync.

Are you sure? That sounds like a light answer, because i am willing to install the most lightweight slimmest rom in the universe if it had the best battery life.

Im running ARHD right now, but im not sure what kernel i have. I have downloaded a kernel and im not sure how to install it. Do i just go into fastboot and flash the boot.img from the command prompt?

Just look around forum, there are a lot of noob friendly guides. Basically yes, you flash boot.img in fastboot, then flash modules(zip file in which you find boot.img) in recovery. Sometimes you need to repack kernel for it to work. http://nibble.cc/repack

i am using ARHD now and i quite like this Rom and i won't change it.. but i noticed that, while on idle (screen off) i got an increased battery time.. but while using it i get less battery time.. with my normal usage i was able to get 1,5 or 2 days, now i struggle to get a full 24h..

SURE. Please check the replies and this sentence "Proudly presenting you the most popular ROM for HTC One X..." For me the best rom ever made :good: link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562603
I've tried a few. I'm using ViperX 2.1.0 at the moment which is the ROM I am sticking with.
But I'd say the best for battery was ARHD.
I try many roms and all have about the same battery live,
it all depends how you use the device.
Try Renovate..best ever
I've tried several roms and kernels, and I absolutely swear by football's maximus roms. The current one with its stock kernel is the most perfect hox experience I've had so far. Currently on 68% battery after a full day, listened to some music, done facebook and whatnot, I have had data off for big chunks of the day, tho that's only because I'm in a weird signal area. On WiFi I leave it on and it seems to idle indefinitely.
try viperx
Actually try them all. Battery use is dependent on personal preference. Some could get good battery on one rom while others can not 'cause the use pattern is different and each rom reacts different on that pattern.
One Maximus and ARHD are probably going to be the right direction.
The best way is to try some different roms and i've experienced that the sense-roms have better battery-life than the jelly-ones
I'm pretty interested in this thread. :good:
I'm a big believer, that regardless of spec an functionality, if your battery sucks, its game over whatever the device.
I've tried:
Stock 4.0 Sense - Rubbish battery, and launcher IMHO
CM10 Beta - I love JB, but could see the battery trickle away as I held it. No way its a daily ROM
ARHD, 4.1 no-sense, GO Launcher - Better, but still caught out frequently. Plus, not all of Sense is removed regardless of the 'No-Sense' install
I'd be interested to know if Paranoid Android (most complete JB rom by the looks) returns decent battery? I missed the opportunity to download the ICS version.
Its a shame that the battery is the achilles heel in this device....
Stock. Had nothing but poor battery since I rooted and flashed a custom rom and I've tried a few different kernels and roms.

@Op, in hours, days..... or years?

New phone,new tests!

First i wanna say "Hello!" the whole HOX community.I bought a few days ago a ONE X and i must say cause i`m very happy to be the owner of this phone.I coming from an htc sensation,so i`m not a stranger The HOX was bought from Germany and i use it in Romania.Last days i did official update to 4.2.2 with Sense 5 after that i unlock bootloader and root cause i wanted to remove some system apps i don`t use.
So,now i want to ask you guys of you Sense 5 experience. How are the battery?Cause mine are not so good. And i don`t know, yesterday was better but today my battery drain much.I see in battery monitoring app cause kernel (Android OS) consumed most (cpu usage: 4h 11m).Otherwise,i must say Sense 5 are very smooth and i`m very impressed.I saw there Vipers and ARHD roms who are very good in my Sensations. And again, ask you guys, what rom(Sense 5 rom) did you use and have best battery life? Also, you use custom kernel? I know cause aren`t "best" rom, must try different combinations of roms/kernels but i want a starting point
Finally,i want to apologize for my bad english.Cheers!

Welcome to hox community!
Back to your post, there is no clear definition of "best rom" as it's very much subjective, and even two phones with same specs, cid, rom..will perform differently.
Well, in short, you like sense 5, and now just updated to latest official stock 4.2.2 with some concerns of battery. So, same as me, try Alex V kernel with better battery time, also some cool tweaks.
Btw, you might note that after update or flash new rom, battery normally gets better after a few cycle of full charge. So, dont judge too quickly.

Everyone's battery life is different because everyone has different uses. Apart from battery saver mode you can try "greenify" in the play store to make some apps sleep when you are not using them.
and you will not get an answer to "which is best rom" as it is not allowed, against the forum rules, it is best just to read about different rom's and try them yourself.

You're welcomed. I was once newcomer before.
Stock kernel is also good and i used it since ota update until i found alex v kernel with s2w/dt2w functions which are really amazing, and can help the power button last longer, plus other benefits. And I started using alex v since then.
Also, wanna share some info: with official ota 4.2.2 update, my phone is now at new hboot 1.73, base 4.19.707.3, and radio.. Most of the custom roms are built on previous base which I dont see good reason to switch to those custom roms, unless it's using same or newer base than mine. So, just to ensure proper checking before flashing custom roms.
Have good time with hox..

My phone cid is HTC_044 (Asia_WWW), using stock rom + alex v kernel. I tried some 4.2 and 4.3 custom roms but still prefer stock due to above rom base reason. But you can try custom rom freely as base is same.

Factory reset after rom flashing could make battery life better and smoother (as phone system is likely to run without any obstacles).
Play with stock kernel for some days and notice the battery life, then try Alex V Kernel and compare.
For me, I lower CPU speed to 1.2GHz and phone is awesome: running smoothly, just get warm up a little bit after nearly 1 hour of constant web surfing or play heavy games (Fifa 14, Real Racing...). Ofcourse, some small delay can be encountered but it's fair enough in exchange of cooler temperature and better battery. Man, try some small tweaks until it seems best for your usage!
