I have been searching the web for the hands down best rom for htc one x concerning battery life. It really does not matter what the pros/cons are with the rom, all that matters is that the battery life is the best. So what rom & kernel should i go for?
My research have shown that the clean rom is probably the best for battery life, but i have the INTERNATIONAL version, not the at&t.:silly:
I've seen many people achieving good battery times with sense ROMs such as ARHD. I personally use IceColdJelly by LordClockan with n3o kernel, have undervolted by 125mv and I'm quiet happy. Yesterday I achieved 18h of total up time, of which 5 hours screen on time, brightness less than 20%, 3g always on, manual sync.

Im running ARHD right now, but im not sure what kernel i have. I have downloaded a kernel and im not sure how to install it. Do i just go into fastboot and flash the boot.img from the command prompt?

Are you sure? That sounds like a light answer, because i am willing to install the most lightweight slimmest rom in the universe if it had the best battery life.

Just look around forum, there are a lot of noob friendly guides. Basically yes, you flash boot.img in fastboot, then flash modules(zip file in which you find boot.img) in recovery. Sometimes you need to repack kernel for it to work. http://nibble.cc/repack

i am using ARHD now and i quite like this Rom and i won't change it.. but i noticed that, while on idle (screen off) i got an increased battery time.. but while using it i get less battery time.. with my normal usage i was able to get 1,5 or 2 days, now i struggle to get a full 24h..

SURE. Please check the replies and this sentence "Proudly presenting you the most popular ROM for HTC One X..." For me the best rom ever made :good: link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562603
I've tried a few. I'm using ViperX 2.1.0 at the moment which is the ROM I am sticking with.
But I'd say the best for battery was ARHD.
I try many roms and all have about the same battery live,
it all depends how you use the device.
Try Renovate..best ever
I've tried several roms and kernels, and I absolutely swear by football's maximus roms. The current one with its stock kernel is the most perfect hox experience I've had so far. Currently on 68% battery after a full day, listened to some music, done facebook and whatnot, I have had data off for big chunks of the day, tho that's only because I'm in a weird signal area. On WiFi I leave it on and it seems to idle indefinitely.
try viperx
Actually try them all. Battery use is dependent on personal preference. Some could get good battery on one rom while others can not 'cause the use pattern is different and each rom reacts different on that pattern.
One Maximus and ARHD are probably going to be the right direction.
The best way is to try some different roms and i've experienced that the sense-roms have better battery-life than the jelly-ones
I'm pretty interested in this thread. :good:
I'm a big believer, that regardless of spec an functionality, if your battery sucks, its game over whatever the device.
I've tried:
Stock 4.0 Sense - Rubbish battery, and launcher IMHO
CM10 Beta - I love JB, but could see the battery trickle away as I held it. No way its a daily ROM
ARHD, 4.1 no-sense, GO Launcher - Better, but still caught out frequently. Plus, not all of Sense is removed regardless of the 'No-Sense' install
I'd be interested to know if Paranoid Android (most complete JB rom by the looks) returns decent battery? I missed the opportunity to download the ICS version.
Its a shame that the battery is the achilles heel in this device....
Stock. Had nothing but poor battery since I rooted and flashed a custom rom and I've tried a few different kernels and roms.

They are all much of a muchness really. However in my experience, LeeDroid has always been good as has ARHD, however LeeDroid appears to no longer be supported but ARHD is, hence it's what I run.
With minimal usage I can get about 35-40 hours use.

Another vote for ARHD
I'd say RCdmix Runny 4.0 which is quite good

I get pretty much the same on all of them
but using CM7 with Lordmods undervolting gave me good results
As with any rom what works good for me may not work for you. Some people like CM7, i use ARHD 6.2.0 and get great life etc.
Try each and see which u have better luck with..

Sense ROM's really use much power compared to AOSP ROM's, with ARHD I achieved a max battery life of 24 hours, and now I can easily achieve around 36 hours and sometimes even 48 hours or more.
But if you really really want Sense, then I recommend ARHD
Virtuous Affinity 1.48 or ARHD 6.2.0 in my opinon both have great battery life. With Virtuous I easily achieve 48 hours during normal daily use.
So I flashed Virtuous Afinity 1.48
Regarding the kernel/radio... do I need to do anything or does flashing a ROM include everything ? What radio would you recommend ?
EDIT:
i am using the radio version 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M (from previous stock version)

for each rom, there are different radio recommendations since every rom is running on different version of gingerbread, you should ask this from the OP of the thread. Or just use the latest radio.
I would personally recommend you a MIUI rom since it is light, no pre installed shyza and gives you around 450mb+ free ram, decent battery life and an eye candy theme. Fully customizable from icons to lockscreen, statusbar to bootanimation e.t.c.

You know what you should do? Flash a ROM in yr DHD and never use it. I guarantee you that you ll have the best battery life then (independent of which ROM you flash!!)
Best for me Blackice rom!! Awesome battery life and damn fast....

Unless you try them and make your own assumption then there is no guarantee on what ROM has the best battery life.
Usage is extremely subjective and varies from user to user.

I just want to know what the problem is here. I cross my fingers and hope that the battery won't deplete as quickly on the official JB rom.
I've had my fair share of test of various jelly bean roms, now i did not only return back to ARHD or Maximus or whatever other rom because of speed differences in particular, but also because sense's widgets can be so useful, and in my opinion are. Saves a lot of time searching and downloading widgets off the play store
Just thought i would ask if there are any actual or maybe even obvious reasons that someone can explain as to why the JB roms are draining battery quite fast that i am not aware of?
The only things i can think of are
1..Deep sleep? although, on second thought it appears to be working perfectly
2. Now the only thing that comes to mind is could it possibly be the power saver core not being used well, if at all?
I've got the feeling there's more to this.. anyone care to shed some light?
Not sure, but it would be nice to have a stock JB ROM that had great battery life. I'm with ya on this one.
I do not own a One X but I also have the same trouble with battery drain on JB ROMs for my Sprint Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch.
It has to be something to do with the OS itself not being fully optimized for the device it's being built for. I would imagine once the manufacturer releases official JB it will be optimized and not drain the battery so fast.

I always assumed it was because the stock Sense kernel always had the latest update from HTC, with JB kernels being custom and based on older source. But since 2.17 kernel source has been released, custom kernels should have "caught up".
Maybe sense and sense apps are written specifically to take advantage of the low power core, but I highly doubt it.
Would be cool if a dev comes in and gives us a lecture
Either way, i'll have a look at this thread tomorrow, good night!
Yeah battery life sucks on aosp based roms. It was the reason why I moved back to Venom rom after 2 months of struggle with cm9 and cm10. And it was so refreshing since the sense 4.1 feels much faster than 4.0. Anyway I hope the aosp based roms will get there and even improve the overall user experience over sense.

I consistently get more than 4hrs screen on time with CM10 and NCX kernel, I'm more than happy with that.
Flash latest ICJ with its stock kernel (neo's v7,5) and feel the powa. Near-sense battery life for me (0,5hr screen on time difference)
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Im deciding on which one to stick with... I really love the look and feel of cm10 but the battery life issue is the only thing holding me back whereas with arhd i heard it has great battery life although sense ui doesnt really appeal to me a whole lot but i dont mind it. if you were in my shoes, which one would you recommend and perhaps a small reason why? thanks

how are you finding the battery life?
In my experience, Sense ROMs offer much better standby time - the phone barely uses any battery when in deep-sleep. By comparison, using CM10, your battery will be slowly eaten even when sleeping. I'm not saying it makes CM10 unusable - far from it - but if you might get 3 or 4 days standby on Sense you'll be lucky to get 2 with CM10.
As for screen time - yes, Sense is still better... but it's less noticeable here. Perhaps 4 hours in a Sense ROM might be 3 on CM10.
I am currently running CM10 nightly from 22nd October and the 0.7 Bricked kernel. On balance, I prefer the performance boost in CM10 to the better battery life in Sense but you might have different needs.
Hope this helps you make up your mind.
i think CM10 should use another kernel such as NCX or Bricked for save battery
I recently tried IceColdJelly (AOKP) for a day or too. I missed all the tweaks that was offered in ViperX (Just upgraded HBOOT to 1.28), the customizable features were plenty some, and the ROM was indeed very fast. The battery was also decent, though I didn't check it fully.
However, what I missed the most was the Sense UI, especially the dialer and the way it fits all the contacts together, and all the apps can simply open a contact and view it fully. The AOKP dialer was especially uncomfortable (much bigger than Sense's).
I tried installing another dialer but couldn't make it the ultimate default (whenever receiving a call, the original dialer's animation would pop for a second, then switch to my dialer for the rest of the duration).
Since I didn't find the equivalent of this in AOKP, I skipped town after a day or too in favor of ARHD 12.0, and happy ever since.
battery life is great compared to the stock sense rom. Im using the stock kernel at the moment. Its last about twice as long. No bugs so far.
[Cyanogenized HTC 1X]
Yeah I just flashed cm10 today on my phone and I'm going to use it for a week then try out arhd perhaps next week. So far my battery has been dying sortve fast but after a couple of cycles it should get better.

I'm in a similar position, not sure when my carier will release JB, so thinking of taking the plunge and trying CM10. ( as I dont need to upgrade my HBOOT ) for this. Are nightlies stable for daily use incl. camera, wifi etc ? Some people say no issues, others say they have issues. With CM10, how long before a stable is released ?
Many of the issues reported lately had been the result of some kernel commits for a newer mpdecision. SODs mainly. Those changes are now reverted in the latest nightly 27th. I have been using cm10 for the past three months with bricked 0.7 and have never been happier. Has all the tweaks I need with a battery that gets me through all day with 3-4 hours screen time.

i think battery is more related to the kernel than the rom per se. That being said, I'd suggest ICJ since it uses NCX kernel by default and IMO that is the best kernel for battery life.

99% of the time it's a rogue app doing that to the phone.
can you check in better battery stats which app is keeping the phone awake or if the phone is achieving deepsleep.
maybe one of the apps isn't playing nice with the phone and keeping it awake or draining it a lot.
if you're patient you can wait a while and try Owain's domination, which is my favorite aosp rom, though he hasn't been able to update it for a while,
but from what i've read, the next update should be amazingly awesome!!!
that + ncx's kernel should provide a good mix of battery life and features.

I'm using CM10 nightlies. With the stock kernel I was lucky to get 10 hours standby with average use or 1 hour screen, and the phone was getting very hot. I changed to the NCX kernel and now I'm getting 24 hours standby with average use or up to 4 hours screen time.
I am surprised no one mention CM10 SE ver 2. I am on it and this is the only AOSP ROM that I managed to convince myself to stay on. And I have tried the rest. My phone stays cool on it, I have not met with any bugs with my usual usage of games, xda, browsing, music, camera, phone.. and it is smooth. Feature-wise, it is not as rich as ICJ or AOSP but I never needed so many features and more features just add to the probability of more bugs.

I'm a noob and only tried 2 custom ROMs, but CM10 nightlies were draining my battery too quick so i tried CM10 SE and have been with it for a few versions now. Find the battery great on it.
Once the AOSP ROMs work on new HBOOT ill unlock again, but for now I'm content with sense 4+ and nova launcher.

I've been using CM10 SE since yesterday and the battery has been fantastic. I'm on HBoot 1.31 so no GPS but everything else works perfectly. I went to bed last night with the battery on 87% and woke up this morning to find that it was still on 87%
Everyone has his own preference for ROMs. There's no point in comparing them with scales such as "speed", "battery life" or "smoothness".
You have to try them on your own and find out yourself.

Back to your post, there is no clear definition of "best rom" as it's very much subjective, and even two phones with same specs, cid, rom..will perform differently.
Well, in short, you like sense 5, and now just updated to latest official stock 4.2.2 with some concerns of battery. So, same as me, try Alex V kernel with better battery time, also some cool tweaks.
Btw, you might note that after update or flash new rom, battery normally gets better after a few cycle of full charge. So, dont judge too quickly.

Everyone's battery life is different because everyone has different uses. Apart from battery saver mode you can try "greenify" in the play store to make some apps sleep when you are not using them.
and you will not get an answer to "which is best rom" as it is not allowed, against the forum rules, it is best just to read about different rom's and try them yourself.

Most of the custom roms are built on previous base which I dont see good reason to switch to those custom roms, unless it's using same or newer base than mine. Factory reset after rom flashing could make battery life better and smoother (as phone system is likely to run without any obstacles).
Play with stock kernel for some days and notice the battery life, then try Alex V Kernel and compare.
For me, I lower CPU speed to 1.2GHz and phone is awesome: running smoothly, just get warm up a little bit after nearly 1 hour of constant web surfing or play heavy games (Fifa 14, Real Racing...). Ofcourse, some small delay can be encountered but it's fair enough in exchange of cooler temperature and better battery. Man, try some small tweaks until it seems best for your usage!
