Good day,
I'd like to ask if anyone could help with my problem of shrinking internal storage. Basically I've begun noticing that my internal storage never gets higher even though I delete files, and it's been bugging me for the longest time... But recently I've realised that this only happens because I've been using USB mass storage mode in my Mac OS X Lion. When I use File Manager to delete the files within the phone itself, it returns me my internal storage. When I delete files in Mass Storage mode, however, the space seems to be lost forever. Could anyone help with this please? I'm thinking the internal storage has been corrupted somehow... but I've used Disk Utility, chkdsk (in Windows) and fsck to check its integrity and all these tests have shown no errors. Have formatted various parts of the memory (/system, /data, /cache - mostly in reflashing my ROM) but I sense that system memory isn't what's wonky. I just want my full amount of internal storage back.
I'm using CM10 alpha6 on my Galaxy W. Would greatly appreciate any help! Thanks!
Try moving your dalvik-cache to your system partition. This will free up some space in your internal memory.

There are different methods in doing this, First you can use Titanium Backup to move/integrate your system apps' dalvik-cache to your system partition, it will like re-odex back your system. Another is by link2sd, it can move your lib+apps+dalvik-cache to your sd 2nd partition. Another again is by A2SD, it can move and rebuild your dalvik-cache to your system or 2nd sdcard partiton. You will need CWM or Minitool Partition Wizard to partition your sd card. Dalvik-Cache moving is a method for increasing your internal free space, there also are different kinds of methods for increasing your free space. Hope I helped.
I've tried the several of the 4.4.4 CM11, ominrom, and currently the carbonrom. All of them I'm having trouble getting several, if any, apps to the sd card.
The only apps that will go are messenger and terminal. The rest stay on the internal drive. However, even after flashing, I'm only left with 100mb to install apps on. After I run the gapps, there's not enough space to install more than one or two apps and the phone is pretty slow. It seems to be a common problem but I've done a ton of reading and believe I've followed all the instructions.
-partitioned exactly how the guide says using 4ext. no problems. ( my card is 64GB)
-a2sd via terminal also works
-my sd card shows in storage
Any help would be appreciated.
- How big is the partition, should be max 2GB.
- Install diskusage app, enable root and browse to your sd-ext partition, check that it is being used, should see /app and /dalvik-cache folders if setup correctly
- your internal memory won't read 'internal + sd-ext'. Keep apps on internal to trick them to sd-ext, so do not 'move to sd'
Thanks... I did a 1GB partition and re: your suggestion, it looks like I have everything is in order.
Does that mean the internal memory is just full with the ROM installation? Should I look at using an older/smaller rom?

You have ~1GB space for apps and dalvik-cache.
When it says 100MB remaining, this does not mean you have 100MB left for apps. This will be used for app data like app settings / saved game data, and app caches. It will still fill up the more you install, but more slowly. Again you can use the diskusage app to browse your /data partition.
The limiting factor is that your are still on stock hboot with only ~147MB actual internal memory (the same as before you rooted)
You can flash a different hboot (requires S-OFF), then flash a corresponding older ROM with smaller /system size like CM7 or Oxygen. That along with equivalent a2sd script will give you more app space. You will always eventually run out of space though
Awesome! Thanks for your time.

I have all this storage space but can install apps anymore? how can i get more internal storage?
Apps will install to main partition (1gb yours is nearly full)
Some of the custom roms here increase this partition
I used oppo find 7 and used TWRP custom recovery. I have these problem after I flashed to lineage 14.1. My storage split into 3 partitions which is 1. Internal Shared storage(ISS) 2. Sdcard0 and 3. Sdcard1. The problem is when I install apps from play store and will saved in Internal shared storage but the system in ISS almost full.
For your information, after I flashed to lineage the system that used are nearly 22 gig. Is it normal? I already wiped all in recovery mode. So why is this happening. It will cause me a problem when i want to downloas a lot of app but because of insufficient storage I cannot do that. Below is the screenshot prove. I hope someone will solve this problem.
i apologize if these seems like stupid idea, but I come from having a Samsung S4 (sgh-i337) and would save my data to the SD card and wipe all of the internal memory when clean flashing new roms.
is there a way to do that for the 128gb storage space, to save 10-15gb for backups, roms, etc? assuming in TWRP
I got my 5T on Tuesday and already have installed TWRP and rooted my device
I just didnt want to configure it too much if i have to wipe it all to resize partitions
thanks for the feedback
No, u cannot save space on the internal memory that will not be touched. You do not have to wipe your internal memory though when flashing new ROMs. That is completely separate from the flashing process. When flashing you wipe cache, dalvik, boot, system, and data, not storage or internal memory. Flash the ROM, boot up, and everything on your internal storage will be present. Also, this should go in the questions and answers thread.
