Play services 8.X services Drain - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I don't know if i am the only or not but the latest version of Google Play services are really draining anormously the battery.
I did already two complete wipe but the issue remains.
The only workaround until now to perform backup of my games thought Helium and uninstall all updates of Google Services.
Do anyone else have the issue and have maybe another workaround ? I do not want to root my device.

I will reply myself then
It unfortunately remain the same workaround which is to disable the updates of Play services and Playstore.
Don't forget to disable automatic update on wifi in the playstore or the Play services will automatically be updated.
Also sometimes a reboot is needed.
Play services was taking 2/3 seconds cpu time every second but with the updates removed, i have about 21 seconds from 8AM to 11:30AM.
If you want to backup your games thought play games, this won't be possible, you will have to backup your phone thought ADB or Helium...

[Q] Google+, Play Services, or Play Store Random Reboots!

I'm having problem with my T989 using maybe with the latest Google Plus update from November 1.
I have tested many roms, and in everyone it keeps doing the same. I have use AoCP, Hellybean, PsiRom, PRO-Bam, IOKP.
I flash the roms using TWRP 2.6.1.0, I rm the preload, and I format everything else, the only thing I don't format is the micro sd. Next I reboot the twrp and I install su binary. Next I wipe again the already mentioned partitions, and I install the rom and gapps(if they are requiered).
Google plus is not updated to the latest version in the latest gapps package, neither google play services, neither play store. It happens when that three apps are updated.
I enter my google account, update google plus and I sign in, by some time both play services and play store are updated. Next to that I use the phone normal, move from here to here, reboot it, search apps, etc, and in a random time the phone reboot, it keeps rebooting, and before 30 seconds of the next complete boot, it keeps doing the same time over and over again. I wipe the cache and dalvik to see if something is wrong, and it still doing the same thing.
I don't know exactly if the problem is with Google Plus, Google play services, or with the latest Play Store version 4.4.21. But it gets annoying, I have use before google plus with 4.3, and now happen this. Is like google is making something in that latest version to make they don't work in our phones, or is a bug. I don't have any more phone, I can't test if it is my device, or that official latest versions.
Searching for this problem I test other things. I always use supersu(free and paid) as root manager, so I download it, install it, next I download system app remover and sd maid(free and paid). I remove google plus and other apps that I don’t use. I reboot. Next I configure sd maid in the corpsfinder options and I remove the things that remains of google plus and use the other cleaners and I reboot again. By this time the play store and play services was updated.
I proceed downloading google plus, it install, I enter my account, and before 3 minutes, it happen the same problem all over again.
Finally I found a way to use our phones without this happening. I do all the things that I already mention, I clean my phone with sd maid, reboot, but this time I have don't install google plus, now my phone works perfect in AoCP.
Any user that happen something like this?, there is a way to fix it?, my phone is almost dying? or we just need wait for an update of google?
Thanks! (btw sorry for my bad english).

[Q] Google Play Store Keeps Crashing on Rooted Note 4, What to do?

I have a Sprint Note 4 which is rooted and yesterday I downloaded Lucky Patcher and the Modded Google Play Store to replace my stock Google Play Store. So through Titanium, I backed up the stock Google Play Store and then I uninstalled it, since the Modded Google Play Store would not let me install it without doing that. I also cleared the cache and data on Google Play Store and now it just keeps crashing all the time. When I try to download something, it starts to download and then immediately it crashes and gives me the "Unfortunately, Play Store has stopped working" error. I get the error no matter which version of Play Store I use now, whether it is the modded or the official version. I tried clearing data/cache to Google Play Services as well, to no avail. When I try to restore my backup of Google Play Store through Titanium it stays frozen with "Restoring Google Play Store 5.1.11" and I end up having to force stop Titanium. This is so annoying! What can I do? Thanks so much in advance!!!
1) Go to Application manager/All, scroll down to where you find these three: Google Services Framework, Google Play, and Google Play Services. Force stop and delete cache and data for the first two (in order given). You won't be able to force close Google Play Services but choose Manage storage and scroll to bottom to clear all data. It's annoying that they may try to restart, just clear again and reboot quickly.
2) If that doesn't work, got a nandroid backup?
3) Re-flash current ROM, if no.
4) If stock and no backup, consider another ROM or start over with Odin stock tar.
Note: options 3 and 4 may require clean install.
Note 2: I've tried to suggest from least inconvenience to most; hopefully, the easier methods will do.
Edit: you may also see an option to uninstall update to revert to the original system application; consider that as option 2 or 3 for Google Play.

Ok I just did that now when I run Play Store it doesn't crash, instead it is says " Check your internet connection and try again" It seems as if it isn't recognizing that I actually do have a connection? I heard that if you go to the files on the phone to "etc/hosts" file and put a "#" in front of the second IP address in the hosts file that it will work but I just tried that and it didn't so I reverted the file back.
Also I tried going to settings>accounts and removing my Google accounts and re adding them but Play store still says I have no connection (which I clearly do). I made sure my date/time settings are right as well. This is happening with the modded play store and the official 5.2.12 Play Store.
YouTube randomly crashes now as well and gives me "unfortunately, YouTube has stopped " Google play store is still not recognizing that I am connected. I think I have tried just about anything besides flashing back to the stock ROM
Did you try step one again after swapping the Google Play versions? Worth a try, if you didn't.
One more thing: Lucky Patcher creates an Odex file. You should use the Lucky Patcher option to remove the Odex and restore the original. If you're ROM is deodexed, Titanium may not fix this for you. You can manually check for Odex file as well. Titanium is also useful to check for unneeded dalvik-cache files.
And one last suggestion I omitted: in recovery, delete all cache and dalvik cache and reboot.

Hmmm it is working now after hours of fumbling around with settings. Both the Modded and official newest Google Play Stores started working after I turned off "Google License Verification Emulation" and I had to turn off "Google Billing Emulation". Very stressful lol but they were the default settings and I didn't really want to mess with any of the settings as I am just starting with Lucky Patcher.

Was that Google Play version 5.2.12?
I flashed that to system yesterday and everything was working except that it didn't populate my applications and notify updates until a day later. I had to search for updates that I knew were available. Today, the apps populated and I got update notification for available updates. I think it may be part of the battery savings that lollipop is supposed to be bringing; less Google Play wakes.
Consider that your manipulation results may have been skewed by Google not immediately syncing the update.
As for my experience, I did find myself doing step one and considering flashing the nandroid but waited for applications to sync. They did finally sync this morning. The longer sync of apps may have been induced locally by the use of Xposed module "Recent Apps" which can be configured to force close apps and remove from recents, reducing wake times.

No, it is the Modded Google Play Store version 5.1.11 right now that's working but there's a newer version of it that is out. I'm getting frustrated messing with lucky Patcher (if anyone can help me with the basics of it? that i would greatly appreciate that as well. Last question I have is that in my etc/hosts file and there is a "#" before the second IP address in the etc/hosts file. Anyone know what that "#" is used for in front of the IP in the hosts file? Thanks again!!!

The # is used in scripts to comment out; meaning ignore that line in your host file.
As far as LP, there is a help link to read. Discussion threads on LP may get closed on XDA; LP may be a useful tool but leans toward piracy. Not saying this pertains to you but there was a thread that the developer participated in that xda allowed to remain open with a warning. That should be sufficient, unless closed as well.

Google Store Crashing but only when rooted.
Why is it that when running stock lollipop 5.1.1 on Galaxy S6 Edge is it that Google Play Store constantly crashes when I'm rooted.
When no root it works fine and dandy.
Soon as rooted the bloody thing crashes constantly..
The only way I managed to keep rooted was to use stock google play store and prevent it from updating.
This I can cope with.. If anyone else has come across this issue and found a better way to fix it please let me know
My note 4 lollipop 5.1.1 device has rooted but fix problem in Google play when I update big file(like no system apps) apps so when it's completely update after start beginning wht can I do it

Well if not working try reseting the phone
I had the same problem yesterday, and I tried to check the My Apps menu in Playstore, it happened that all apps in "Installed" tab are downloading updates all at the same time. So I cancelled all the process and everything is back to normal.
Update Error
Hi! I'm having the very same problem. Any advice please?
Are the apps you are trying to update on the micro sd. If so try moving them to the device storage before you update.

A factory reset should work. However, I disabled my downloads app and the downloads provider and the play store refused to open.
I think that you should try to disable both of them; wipe any data or cache.
Then reboot and enable them and reboot again.
This should solve the problem.
Nexus 7 2013 Marshmallow not play store joy...
My Nexus 7 2013 updated with latest OTA Marshmallow some time ago, have rebooted a couple of times since then, suddenly stopped doing any app updates even though it seemed to think it needed to do so. The downloading progress bar would just go on forever. I finally got fed up and reset cache and data, rebooted and nothing. Then I did a factory reset, but let it try to re-add all my apps, that was taking forever as well and never actually getting anything to complete the installation. Then I did a factory reset without restoring any apps. The tablet runs, I can surf the web, lots of other things, but when I start the play store it apparently is the older version of the play store and it never wants to update itself. When I click the play store build(5.12.7) within play store settings, it says there is a newer version available and will be installed. That hasn't happened for 2 solid days now. I can't get any apps to install at all and the play store is stuck on the older version.
Advice?
P.S. Yes, I have a good WiFi connection.
I am having this issue now on Zenfone 2 version 4.168. Somehow, this started happening after my friends wifi went down. When it came back I still couldn't use it effectively. I could not connect to games or google play store. I tried clear cache and data from services and play store one by one but no solution. I booted to recovery and wiped cache from there still no difference. Factory reset was only solution that worked and that was my last resort. I thought the wifi I was on got hacked or ddosed because thats when issues started. So it has happened again after I did the factory reset. I synced my apps from gmail after I reset and it was fine for at least 4 hours till now I can't connect to game of war and when I go to play store and my apps, I get can't connect to play store.

Google app crash

Hi, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I decided to update Google Play Services on my G4 (android 6, stock rom) and since then, all Google apps (gmail, google keep, google play store,...) keep crashing.
I downloaded Google Play Services 8.7.03 on apkmirror and I chose the variant 440 (arm64 + arm, android 6.0+ and nodpi)
I can't deactivate or uninstall Google Play Services and I wish there is another option than restoring the entire phone...
Try a few different versions of Play Services?
Hi, thanks for your answer.
I've called a friend who also has a G4 (android 6) and asked him what is his version of Google Play Services. He has the 8.7.03 (variant: 440), the exact version I manually installed.
I saw on forums that I could try to delete my google accounts (which I did, but Google apps are still crashing and now I have a notification telling me I have to link the phone to a gmail account, but I can because Google Play Services crashes all the time).
I also tried to reboot, clear the app's data, uninstall all updates and reinstall the right version,... but still crashing.
I'll try one last time everything I've already tried and if it doesn't work, I'm afraid I'll have to reset to factory settings...
Can you just reflash the system partition and not touch user data? I think that might work.
Sent from my LG-H812 using Tapatalk
Reflash? Do I need root for that? My phone is not rooted (but I was just wondering if there is a way to root the G4 under android 6 without touvhing the bootloader)
Update: I reset to factory settings, now I have to get everything back on the phone.
One advice: never manually install Google Play Services, I've read loads of people commenting that they had the same kind of trouble.
Even if you install the right version (the version I manually installed was the exact same than my friends')

Google Apps problem on China Oreo Rom Solution

I've stayed on the China rom since I bought my phone and everything was fine with the Google apps until the update to Oreo 9.5.2. Problems encountered were constant crashing and popups, battery drain and Google Assistant stopped working. Here's how I solved the issues:
1) Go to this link and install the updated Google apps for Oreo http://en.miui.com/thread-1682191-1-1.html
2) I tried several Assistant apps on the play store but all crash immediately just like Google Assistant. So I've switched to Cortana (until Xiaomi fix the bug) and it works perfectly.
Hope this helps anyone that decided to stay on the China rom like me.
P.S. Before anyone asks. No, I don't want the Global rom or a custom rom. No I don't want to flash, mod, magisk or anything else. Just posting a tip. Thanks.

I tried to solve it with this solution, but still have the problems.
Also 4/6 apps it didnt install, because I have a newer version.

Uninstall your other Google apps and install these. Make sure you follow the instructions exactly. Install but don't open and make sure you use the 8.0 version of Google Services Framework and not 8.1. Reboot your device and log back into Google. You also have to enable all the permissions, autostart, background, don't kill, no restrictions etc just like a regular app since they're not treated like a system apps by MIUI. If Google Play Services starts draining the battery just force stop it. Opening any other Google app will restart it in normal mode.
All this works for me so far and I'm also getting about an extra hour of battery life along with the major ram management improvements on Oreo.
Another thing. If Google Play Services is causing battery drain, disable Modify System Settings in permissions. I've been getting the battery drain issue once in a while and found a possible solution in the Oneplus forums. So far it seems to be working.

Here's the solution to the Google app problem. Google Assistant won't show up as the default Voice Assistant so you'll have to just use voice on the normal app.

Make sure you uninstalled your original Google Account Manager and then try again. If that doesn't work uninstall everything and try this method:
http://en.miui.com/thread-2069667-1-1.html
I only added the Google Partner Setup apk from that link to mine and disabled Modify System Settings in permissions and everything seems ok so far. You can also try force stopping Google Play Services and opening the Play Store. That worked for me too but it doesn't solve all the problems.
I'm presuming you followed the original instructions to the letter and installed the apps in order without opening anything and then rebooting?

I was getting the parse error when trying to install the Google Account Manager as well (and yes, I have uninstalled everything else Google related).
I follow the installation guide here:
http://en.miui.com/thread-1682191-1-1.html
But the thing is the Miui 9 now needs to give permission to install 3rd party apps for each app, but I do set it up that the Mi File Manager has the right to do that but same thing, still has that Parse error when trying to install the Google Account Manager.
I don't see Xiaomi store has GApps anymore, where did you get it from?

I really don't understand why you're not able to install it successfully. Try uninstalling everything again and follow this method exactly http://en.miui.com/thread-1682191-1-1.html
Make sure you install only the 8.0 version of Google Services Framework and not 8.1. Don't open anything until you have rebooted.
This is the one I used and only added Google Partner Setup from the other method whilst disabling Modify System Settings in the permissions for Google Services Framework.

Thank you twotems; do you remember when you download the zip file, which server you chose? I want to make sure the file is intact after i downloaded it. But to be honest, I don't think the file is corrupted or anything.

I just chose the first one that came up. But if you're suspecting the files are corrupted just download the updated versions directly from Apkmirror.

Hi guys, does any of you have this issue with Google Play services automatically update to version 12.2.21 and then puts Google play store in a loop displaying the message "Authentication is required. You need to sign in your Google account" even though I am signed in and press the retry button. I can confirm previous versions of Google play services do not cause this issue, but there is no way to stop the damn thing from automatic updating, even though the app store has autoupdate off.
I tried removing the account and adding it back. Tested with another Google account and same issue.

I had the same issue when I updated to Oreo. Try and Force stop Google Play Services and deny it permission to Modify System Settings. The Force Stop will allow you to access the Play Store temporarily and for some reason denying permission to Modify System Settings permanently solves the battery drain and Play Store issue. I have no idea why but someone posted it on the OnePlus forums and it works.
