Hello everybody,
Are there anyone here coming directly from SGN v1, who will share their experiences with regards to the differences between v1 and the new Note II? Is it worth getting?
- Is it really that good?

most of the users here ive read are from OG Note.
the difference is great and yes its worth getting. its a huge improvement in everything.
I swapoed fron note1
Note 2 is smoother
Quicker
More fun
Better spen if you use it!!!
Better sound quality and deeper base
Jb is smooth as butter even on stock rom
Screen is better but I can tell its smalker width wise albeit a few mm
Im personally pleased I upgraded altho it isnt a major upgrade as toi me my note1 was and still is a quick and nice phone after putting on custom rom
You would still be happy to upgrade tho and pleased you did!!!
Note 3 got a **** load to live up2 lol
Oh yeah and solit screen multiwindows is cool 2
And this is all b4 the devs create even more magic than they are doing now
Get it get it get it GET it

Had the Note 1 since it came out in October 2011. The most significant change reported here on XDA that convinced me to upgrade is battery life. I'm getting sick battery life, double what Note1 had.
check this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1944775
Used the Note 1 for 9 months. But Note 2 is superior in every respect. It was a great decision to buy the Note 2.
Missing one thing in above
Note 2 is brick bug free
Also come from original Note and only the immense battery capacity is already worth the trip! (Running for over 16 hours now, 4+ hours screen time, battery at 47%...)
After that everything else is bonus: speed, Jelly Bean smoothness, big memory, etc., etc., etc.
Go for it, you'll be in another dimension
Only thing I regret a bit is that with the thinner screen, there's only 4 icons on a row instead of 5 but after a bit of screen rearranging everything is fine.
So far it has been awesome..

Hey, talking about battery life, I have a couple of screenshots to illustrate it. It is way faster than the NOTE1, if you compare both on stock. S Pen is better integrated but only works with Samsung apps. Everything else is integrated. From bluetooth 4.0 to NFC and WIFI direct. I do find the screen of the NOTE1 better, but I guess it is something subjective as most people think the exact opposite.
In the other hand, you no more have the opportunity to copy apps on the external SD so depending of your usage you should bear that in mind. Plus, and this I believe has more to do with JB than Samsung, there is no more UMS support. For windows users it is barely noticeable, but for mac users like me, it is hell!

Dear SweetPain,
Thank you for your post i have also read elsewhere that its not possible to port apps with the sd card this initially led me to believe that the Note2 does not support sd cards... But this doesnt seem to be the case?
In anycase, its not a concern for me! I dont have that many progames and games installed... When I log on the phone with my gmail account, it will automatically download and install my 20-30 programmes... In 10 minutes it will be ready to go!
Atleast this is what I am hoping for...

True, I must admit 16Gb is well enough for me! I purchased a 64Gb microsdxc uhs1 and I plan to save media or bulky files on it.

I have a galaxy nexus and I am looking to upgrade to note 2 mainly for the big screen and faster core.I would like to ask some questions from those who have upgraded to this phone from gnex which I have been wondering for some time:
- Is it an upgrade or not?
- How has been your experience so far with the gNote?
- Is the huge screen size a hassle or was it easy to adapt.Do you miss the GNex because this was way too big or not.
- How is touchwiz.I really really like the smoothness and look of stock android,so does touchwiz deliver,is it fast like stock?
- I already use my both hands to type in gnex, but I surf the net one handed in portrait mode.So can I one hand browse on note 2 as well?

Definitely an upgrade in every aspect. .....
Touchwiz is smooth....my ph never lags....yes....for a tiny bit here and there.....and thats normal with every ph...even s4 or OG pro.....
Note is awsm.....very practical ph but not made for single hand use...ive already dropped it once.....
Verdict: if possible get a note 3 .....or else buy note 2 with your eyes closed if single handed use does not bothers you
The note2 is amazingly fast and if you install Nova launcher, you get rid of the Touchwiz user experience, but all the extra "note goodies" remain. There are tons of ways to enhance your note2, just like any other Android phone *and* the Nexus series... If you have the money though, go for the Note3.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Well money is an issue so I cant get the note 3.I understand its an upgrade to note2 but i cant buy.
I intend to get it in the next week or so.
Gnex doesnt lag even for a little bit,but then again i dont use many apps on it.So I guess the Gnote will be the same
I just got my note 2 and its friggin awesome!!
I m still checking out all the features and loving the screen
There is just a small problem of extreme slow playstore downloads
Experience over time shown quite some variation in download speeds of the play store. I should not worry too much. Maybe your Wifi connection is a bit weak or the frequency band it's configured on is rather crowded there? You can try Wifi Manager to find out and that can help you with more Wifi related stuff too. ..

Welcome to the club mate. Make sure you use the S-pen to the fullest so you get the REAL NOTE EXPERIENCE:good:
And I'd also suggest Nova Launcher coz it has more options in terms of customization even though you'd lose Page Buddy.
Buy this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/White-PU-Le...d=100033&prg=1011&rk=1&rkt=4&sd=121001283707&
And you dont have to be worried for dropping it so easy... The back cover on the Note 2 (and all the others in this series) is so incredible slippery...
I had a galaxy nexus for two years and a couple months ago i upgraded to the Galaxy note 2 and let me tell you, It is SO MUCH BETTER in every possible way. Screen is better, touchwiz is snappy ( i was skeptical about the touchwiz), and the spen has changed the way I use my phone. Also has an sdcard slot which is a huge bonus. Battery life is night and day. I had to charge my nex twice a day every day, with this phone, I could make it go 48 hours if I reeeeeaaally wanted to, it's crazy. Def an upgrade! Do it.
Since most has been said. Im going to tell you something quick.
The biggest improvements that made me 'wow' are:
-app switching (almost always doesn't kill apps in the bg for faster multi-tasking)
-battery life is god-like. 6 hours of screen on time with 20 hours unplugged on hsdpa+ all day. And it also charges quickly.
- I switched to nova launcher and it's so much cleaner.

Hi,
I was about to buy the GS4 but I thought of the Note II
I'm impressed with this phablet
Just 2 questions about the note 2 to make sure it's a good choice for me.
1- There is a huge difference in hardware (CPU & GPU) between note 2 and the S4
But I saw that people don't have any lag even in latest hardcore games
Can the note 2 be good for a while or maybe in the near future it will be and old device & can't handle new games??
I mean the S4 got about 28000 vs 18000 on the note 2 on ANTUTU Bench.
I this points difference is for nothing?
2- The camera of the note 2... If I try to capture a written text on the blackboard about 7~10 meters far away from me... can I really get the a good picture?? (I mean in the college )
Or should I get the 13MP of the S4??
Hi and welcome!
1. The difference between Note 2 hardware and GS4 hardware is not so important as long as Note 2's hardware can provide enough power. And it does. Plenty. If you look to benchmarks for answers, you'll be disappointed to know that the synthetic benchmarks don't reflect real life usage, so the scores are more or less an indicator. Not to mention that the newer phones like GS4 have some tweaks in order to get higher scores in benchmarks. You can safely buy Note 2 from this point of view, it's powerful enough to play any game out there, plus it does it on a big beautiful screen and not eating all your battery while doing it.
2. The camera can take good pictures, for what you say you need, it's perfect. You may get bigger pictures from the GS4 due to it's lager sensor, but unless you shoot very small text or you need to print a banner from it, you won't see the difference.
I had to make the same choice some time ago, and I went with the Note 2. I don't regret a second for doing so, especially when my GS4-using friends keep asking for chargers constantly cause their battery won't last them through a day.

Thanks, you made my day :cyclops:
But I hope that other people ensure what you say cause I get confused after someone tells me that S4 is a better choice
Well, I wrote my opinion on this matter, others may have different preferences. It all comes up to what you need - big screen + big battery vs. fullHD + newer hardware - considering that if you put my Note 2 (and I say "my Note 2" because I'm talking about rooted + custom ROM) next to a GS4, you don't see any performance difference. Any.
Oh, yeah, and the pricing difference...
I agree with ruwin. However it all depends on what you want to use it for. I personally don't care to much for TouchWiz exclusive features which are now not so exclusive. For example, OmniRom have a note 2 custom ROM with android 4.3 with working multi window and there are now plenty of apps and mods which make good use of the s-pen. That being said and considering hardware differences to be neglible what makes the note 2 'better' in my opinion is the larger screen. I couldn't go back to a smaller screen now. And if your looking for the TW features, The 4.3 upgrade should be just around the corner and there are already fully functional note 3 features being ported. Don't be scared! Get the note 2

Well I've had my note 2 for a year. I was eagerly awaiting the 3 and was going to buy that.
However, my father got the s4 so I had to set it all up for him and whilst the screen is nice, its too small and the battery life is the same. For me the gimmicks it has are pointless and if I was asked to swap my 2 for the s4 I wouldn't.
I'm a big game player and the bigger screen and battery are a must for me but everyone is different.

That's a good point
if it has a bigger screen + better battery life + good performance vs brighter Full HD >>> THE NOTE II WINS
The Note 2 is a better choice as it has better battery and S Pen features. Also I heard many users having problems with the S4 such as heating, etc.

Well, some teachers don't allow us to take pictures (don't know why) so we take the photo while he is not looking
The BB also gets to be erased about 4-5 times every class, so simply I can't capture it after the class

Yeah for me the bigger screen whilst playing is a must now. I know it seems hard to believe but I pick up my old phone and I couldn't believe how I used to play games on such a small screen.
For you I guess also price may be a factor? My dad wanted the note 2 but got a better deal on the s4.

I am between purchasing a Nexus 6 and a Galaxy Note 4 in December, currently leaning towards a Nexus 6.
But this is the deal, because of my employer, I will not be able to root my phone. Yeah, I know there are some xposed modules that can hide root, but everytime my work apps update then I'd have to wait for the xposed module to update and basically don't want to deal with that. So my question is, how is the Note 4 stock unrooted? I've heard some negative commentary regarding TW lagging. I'm also concerned about waiting forever for the Android L update. So basically, Android L and lagging are the two biggest reasons I'm leaning towards a Nexus, but I definitely want to do my due dilligence in hearing user feedback regarding lagging, specifically with TW.
Thanks all.
PS. I had to switch to an iPhone earlier in the year due to a work agreement, but now I'm allowed to go to Android if I want, so can't wait to be back.

I ran unrooted for two weeks, and performance was fine. The only reason I finally rooted was to kill the ads in some of the apps I use. Personally I have no issues with TW, not laggy at all and I think it adds some useful functions.
I think the choice comes down to features. Can you do without an SD card, removable battery and fingerprint sensor? If so, then having pure android and fast updates may be worth it. Since I keep 50 gigs of media on my card and use the fingerprint sensor it was an obvious choice
I've only experienced lag since I rooted and installed xposed, there's a fix now, but if you're unrooted it shouldn't be an issue. The only reason I rooted this time was to kill the home button wake feature and take advantage of greenify.
Thanks guys. Makes me wonder if the people citing lag issues are just anti Samsung. I think it will come down to how it feels in the hand. The sd card isn't a big deal since I'll subscribe to Google Music.
Personally, I want Android Lollipop pretty bad, but I think where the Note 4 has a lead is that the features support the size of the phone better than the Nexus, which is just huge.
Note 4 has am SD card n removable battery nexus gets direct updates ...

I haven't. It looks cool but I get a little scared of gimmicks like that.
Looks like the Nexus 6 is getting some pretty unfavorable reviews and played around with a Note 4 at Sprint this evening. I think I'm leaning towards the Note now.
My reasons for getting the Note 4 over the Nexus 6 is features. The Nexus 6 is a big screen phone but the Note 4 is really a phablet.
No multi window, fingerprint scanner, no S-Pen and no S-Health features.
Would love lollipop but otherwise very happy with the Note 4
I've read some great reviews about the nexus 6. I couldn't give up my note, though. The multi window and the s pen are a must for me now. I think there's always somebody who complains about lag on every phone. The only lag on this phone that bugs me (3/10) is when I click the recent apps button. It's a 2 second lag. I can count it every time. I'm just getting used to it because of the 1000 other reasons I love the phone.

I saw a vid of lollipop running on an S5. Looks sweet! No if we can get the update timely.
I have a tab s3 and it lags when performing basic tasks.
the feeling is like that of a desktop running windows on a 5200rpm hard disk.
how is the s4?
thank you.
no, it doesn't lag.
but there are some apps that are incompatible with Tab S4 that can cause system wide lags...in my case IOBit Applock.
After uninstall everything runs smoothly.
Can confirm that the Tab S4 does not lag like the Tab S3.
The Tab S3 lag was horrible out of the box and was very frustrating to use. After the firmware update it became tolerable but still frustrating (to a lesser degree).
I didn't see that kind of lag on the S4 yet.
I also can confirm, no lag. It's a much better experience. The updated CPU made a world of difference.

So far so good with my 64GB LTE version with 4GB RAM, though I have only had the tablet since mid December and haven't really done anything very demanding on it yet.
Are you all using the 4GB variant as well? The 6GB is hard to come by and wasn't available in Doha Hamad International Airport when I bought mine.
I think 6GB should have been standard as I'm sure that 4GB will be the primary limitation that results in lag. The SD835 is fast enough to handle most tasks and games very well.
I can also confirm that the Tab S4 has no lag compared to Tab S3 that I used to have.
Very smooth experience with S4.
Too bad android app support for tablets is diminishing by the minute. Some apps (that is developed for phone) look so aweful on tablet screens, I had to uninstall them.

folks,
I am reaching the same conclusion.
The t830 is very responsive and smooth.
I hope it remains this way even after installing many apps in the not so far future.
The display is also smoother using either the spen or finger. I don't think it's because it's brand new. Is it the same gorilla?

I don't think it's the CPU only. I know the 835 has 8 cores while the 820 only 4 cores, but does Oreo make good use of extra cores?
Also the frequency difference isn't that much @ 15%.
Perhaps bloatware was optimized...
My 2 cents.
I have both the Tab S3 and Tab S4 and neither of them lag.

You can fix the lag by rooting your tab S3 and install Trimmer (fstrim)
Almost 24 hours in with owning this thing... I can say that I haven't seen any lag. Not when I'm unlocking it, using apps, swiping through things... nothing. It may not have the latest hardware... but it doesn't look like that's affecting anything. I even edited a whole 16 minute video down to a 6 minute video on this with no lag! This tablet is amazing man I tell you. Never knew you could do some almost PC-like editing on here

Damn!
has Samsung acknowledged this?
By reading the app description one can deduce that the tab S4 will suffer the same fate in the future, unless the SSD is different or newer..
I recall the tab S3 starting to lag just a few weeks after a full factory wipe/reset, though such procedure wouldn't correct trimming, correct?
Don't have an S3 but my S4 does not lag and as a matter of fact while using it in the DeX mode it is refreshing as compared to my Desktop and Galaxy Book how quickly the apps open up. Third party email and office apps open almost instantly even when not running in the background..
