Hi Guys,
My M8 was rooted a while back so I'm on an old Android version. I recently upgraded my phone and want to reset my old one for my wife to use... but I honestly can't figure out what to do. I want to get it back to standard build so she can get OTA updates etc and get fully updated.
Can someone help with a description of the steps I need to make - and how exactly I can figure out the correct stock rom to use etc? More than willing to send a few $$$ to someone by way of a thanks.

Wow thanks. My phone's with Vodafone; does that affect things - does the above only apply to fully unlocked?
I don't think I can - I'll need an RUU specific to Vodafone, right? I can't find one anywhere here... can anyone help please?
Thanks - Jamie

Thanks - one problem though - my CID is something like 1111111 currently which looks incorrect. Can I just modify it to match an RUU (if so, how?) or if I need to figure out what value it was originally, how do I do that?
Leave as it is as CID: 1111111xxxxx is superuser, essentially unlocked so you can flash ANY carrier I.D. ROM

The latest ruu will work. It will make it wwe (it has no carrier crap from voda, but if you want or need it ?)
After the ruu it is full stock and you will get wwe ota updates (if you leave it stock)
Hi Guys,
Really struggling.
I've downloaded the RUU file - which is a .exe file. I renamed it to 0P6BIMG.zip
fastboot oem rebootRUU
And then:
fastboot flash zip 0P6BIMG.zip
This transfers the file and then gives this error:
writing 'zip'... INFOzip header checking...
INFOshift signature_size for header checking...
FAILED (remote: 32 header error)
I'm at a loss - I don't know what to try next! Am I doing something wrong - or is the file I've downloaded corrupt?
Thanks - Jamie
You can't rename a RUU exe to a zip.
Which RUU that you downloaded ? 4.16.401.10 ?
Simply put your device in bootloader/fastboot mode
Right click RUU exe and select run as administrator and follow the instructions.
Note : you need to use usb2.0 and the latest htc usb driver is installed.
To ensure you have the latest driver, download htc sync manager, install then uninstall the htc sync manager but leave the drivers
If you prefer a RUU zip, download here : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934518148
then rename it and fastboot flash it as what you described earlier
Or another method if you have a microsd on your device,
Rename the RUU zip to 0P6BIMG.zip
Put 0P6BIMG.zip on your microsd
Boot the device to bootloader and select hboot
It will scan and ask you to update
Volume up to proceed update
Once complete, reboot .. done
Remove 0P6BIMG.zip from microsd

Ah thanks! I think my problem is I'm using a Mac - don't have a windows PC at all. The zip route sounds the right one - will try that.

I hope that this post is in the correct forum section - apologies if not and apologies if there is already a thread on this subject (I did try searching but nothing that provided a link to a RUU).
Here's what I've done:
Flashed a custom ROM to my UK O2 HTC One X
Then tried to restore it to stock without taking a Clockwork recovery backup (deleted all caches and storage in the process)
Tried to flash with stock RUU found online (1.26.206.2) but RUU software throws an error as the exisiting f/w is 1.29.206.11 and this is what it is expecting
I can access the HOX through fastboot to lock and unlock the device but I cannot see the "SD card" to copy over a custom ROM to at least get some life into the thing (it just sits at the white HTC loading screen until the battery dies).
Ideally I want to return the thing to stock (if anyone has a O2 UK 1.29.206.11 RUU) but failing that is there anyway to get a custom ROM on there (for installation with CWM) without my PC (Windows 7 or Mac available) seeing the HOX storage?
Thanks for reading and any help you can pass on.

if you can get into to CWM there is an option to mount sd in there somewhere, if you can't get into it maybe try re-flashing it

DO you mean extracting the 2 img files from the RUU zip and running from fastboot command prompt? If so, the second img file returns a [0000006] error.

I've got the RUU you suggested from HERE
Now to apply this RUU all I need to do is run the file (exe) and follow the bouncing ball?
Then once flashed (back to stock), to install a custom recovery (so I can do a nandroid) is unlock the bootloader, install the recovery, and take the nandroid backup. To get the OTA Update(s), I'll need to relock the bootloader, do the automated system updater, redo nandroid, then onto a custom recovery once HBOOT has been updated via the OTA process?
EDIT: Take a nandroid backup first of course

NO You can't receive the OTA via custom recovery you need ctock recovery and stock rom unrooted
1) Lock your bootloader
2) Run the RUU
3) Apllay all update to 4.x.206.x 4.2.2 JB
4) Unlock your Bootloader
5) Install Philz custom recovery
6) Do a Nandroid Backup on 4.2.2.JB . Save on secure plase it is better to have 2 copies on nandroid on different place
7) If you wont Install custom rom or root the stock it is your decision and don't forget to flash the boot.img if you install custom rom

Hi all! My english is not very good:silly: . I will try to explain my serious problem in hope to find a solution.
I have an DHD and it's stuck in bootloader. In FASTBOOT appears PD98IMG.zip wrong image. I tried FACTORY RESET and nothings happened. I start to searching for RUU-s, to put them on my card with name PD98IMG.zip. In right corner start loading a blue bar, then a yellow bar after that error CID wrong. I used Ace Advance Hack to make S-OFF, SUPER CID and other stuff.. failed, must have USB DEBUGGING check on phone. I have install in PC AMT and SDK Manager, nothing. An other software WinDroid Universal HTC Toolkit for flash rom, failed again. For 2 days I read about this problem but I did not found solve. I think, if i find an original RUU for my CID with same radio, renamed as PD98IMG.zip and put it on my sd card, maybe it will work.

As my understanding, you can't simple rename RUU exe file to zip, find the stock zip for your phone&carrier. I may dig my bookmarks to find some later.
I downloaded the exe files for the cid that i have, run it, but after a while appears error 170 or something like that..usb debugging not checked on phone, so i copy from C:\Users\Ionut\AppData\Local\Temp a file named rom.zip, renamed as the file i need (PD98IMG.zip) and put it on sd card. Start phone, bootloader - fastboot- vol down...start checking sd card (blue bar), verify files (yellow bar), then appears a screen and ask me to press vol up for update. I press vol up but in bootloader right screen with red letters fail-PU.
It is possible that memory rom be damaged?

My HTC one M8 system UI keeps crashing every time i boot up the phone
How i got to this position
For some reason i was not able to download anything to the phone (yes, there was space available), so i decided to factory reset the phone. unfortunately that was no help. From there i decided to use twrp recovery to wipe everything, Me being a smart guy wiped everything, including the system ( and no i did not make a back up anything ). After got a hold of a mirco sd card and flashed a version of a htc one system file i found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2694994 . I got the phone to boot up ( not booting up from before without a system), but the system UI keeps crashing every time i boot up the phone. Found a thread in xda with the same problem, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2694994, and the solution is to get a hold of the stock recovery (not sure if it will work for me). Finally i jump over to an other thead, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376, saying i need to find out my cidnum. I used fast boot to get it and my version of cidnum is BS_US001 which i could not find on the list.
Long story short
Couldnt download on my phone
wiped my system by mistake (no backs)
flash android revolution hd version of kitkat
system ui keeps crashing
think stock recovery will fix it
getting a random cidnum is BS_US001 and am not sure which stock recovery to flash
Please help !!!!
thank you

Hello everyone,
I just bought this used HTC M8. It has android version 4.3.3 and software version 2.22.401.5
If I use "Get Var All" function I get that my mobile Model Id is PB0613000 and CID is 1111111
I cannot update OTA. I cannot install Rom manually cause it gives error 155.
My bootloader is locked and S-OFF too.
I have no idea how to install ROM in it and what Rom. I have used unlocked official rom and also the one T-Mobile released officially, Both gave error 155.
Please help me.
Thank you.
If you want to install either Dev Ed or T-Mob 6.xx RUU, you need to flash its firmware first.
e.g. to install 6.20.531.5 RUU, you must flash 6.20.531.5 firmware.zip first.

Hey thanks for letting me know. I am trying to install 6.12.1540.14 on my HTC DEVed.
I changed my MID and CID and installed a stock recovery.
Now I downloaded this file from HTC's website, RUU 6.12.1540.14. Can you tell me where can I download its firmware?

So I flashed my firmware.zip now all I need to do is just launch the RUU file from my computer? Just like HTC website instructions?
I don't need custom recovery for it right?
It fails after 5 minutes on "sending.........." :/
Yes.. just right click the RUU and select run as administrator.
Make sure you run it on Windows PC with usb 2.0
and latest htc usb drivers are installed.

I am doing exactly like this.
I don't know what is wrong.
My MID is 0P6B12000
CID is BS_US002
Software Version 2.22.401.5
Android Version 4.4.3
Stock Recovery is 4.16.1540.8
Then I flashed firmware of 6.12.1540.4
And I am installing RUU_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_MR_BrightstarUS_WWE_6.12.1540.4
When I check for updates it says your phone is up to date (been checking from past 1 and a half week)
It either gets stuck on "0% Sending........" at RUU menu.
Or it fails giving the error[155] Make sure you are using the correct Rom.
Mobile screen is stuck at HTC Logo.
When I unplug the mobile it opens fastboot saying "Fail zip info" I have to restart mobile to make it work.
My Bootloader was unlocked, I Locked it using Echo Su command.
Then I unrooted Mobile by going to super su > complete unroot.
What is possibly wrong with my mobile? ALL I want to do is update my mobile to marshmallow either by OTA or Manual.
P.s. I'm new to android so I don't know a lot of stuff about it. Sorry.
Can you post fastboot getvar all (without serial & imei no.)
When your MID is changed to 0P6B12000, CID is better as BS_US001
Are you in US ? Maybe convert it to EU is better for you.
Let's see the getvar all result first.
Here...

And I live in Asia.
Since you're in Asia .. I suggest to convert it to EU.
You already know how to change CID/MID, change it to CID 11111111 or HTC__001 and MID 0P6B10000
then you can follow this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
It seems that you have USB connection issue when it stuck on "0% Sending........" when using RUU exe, so a RUU zip could be better for you.
Anyway .. if you still want to update it to 6.12.1540.4 instead of convert it to EU .. what you can do is run the RUU exe, no need to connect M8 to PC, open your windows "temp" folder (in "run" type %temp%), you should see 2 new folders. One of them has rom.zip
Copy this rom.zip to your desktop, then you can follow the same guide on how to install it with htc_fastboot
Or you can rename this rom.zip to 0P6BIMG.zip and place it on your microSD. Boot to bootloader then select hboot, it will scan the file and ask whether you want to update. Volume up to update. After successfully update, remove/delete this 0P6BIMG.zip from the microSD
Edit : the easiest for you now is (since the firmware is already updated), install latest TWRP and restore 6.12.1540.4 backup that you can find in my backup thread .. after restore .. done.
So .. I can say you have 3 options here

Thank you so much!
I did something else, But it worked.
What I did was put my mobile in Fastboot USB mode, And then run the RUU. I also used another USB port you were right about that too.
It worked fine.
I tried doing it before but it didn't work I think it was because of the firmware.zip thing you told me. So thanks a lot again!
Just tell me that I will get OTA updates from now on right?

Great that you fixed it.
Yeah .. you will get OTA if there is one in the future.
But I don't think there will be any as M8 is already 2 years old and HTC stop support after 18 months.

THANKS ckpv5 I WILL GIVE YOU WHOLE INFO. ABOUT MY PROBLEM
As i changed my MID and flashed wrong zip of HTC europe rom on HTC SPRINT which drained everything including my custom TWRP. I was totally new to HTC totally messed up everything. its been more than five days my phone had stuck at hboot screen i know you guy are genius can save my hundard of BUCKs as its new phone bought 15 days ago it was rooted.
I WAS TRYING TO INSTALL SPRINT FIRMWARE TOO BECAUSE I HAD ALREADY FLASHED THAT FIRMWARE ACCORDING TO EUROPE ROM. NOW THE PROBLEM IS THAT I AM UNABLE TO FLASH FIRMWARE DUE TO CHANGED MID (talked earlier) CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHAT TO DO.
Do you still have TWRP installed ?
If no, install one
If yes,
Boot to TWRP recovery, select mount - system
open command prompt from your adb/fastboot folder then run command
adb shell
then this code
Code:
echo -ne '\x30\x00\x50\x00\x36\x00\x42\x00\x37\x00\x30\x00\x30\x00\x30\x00\x30' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 bs=1 seek=16384
Make sure you copy the code, not write it yourself
then exit
then select reboot - bootloader
then run
fastboot getvar mid
you should see your mid now read 0P6B70000
(you don't need "su" command)
Now you can install Sprint RUU - http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-sprint/news/
or check those in Sprint section that I linked above
Note : You will get your device running again but you maybe lost the 3G/4G and only can get 2G. Reason is you flashed wrong radio meant for GSM on your CDMA, this usually brick the radio. If you're lucky enough, this is not happening.

i'm brain dead nothing works SUGGEST SOMETHING
EVEN UNABLE TO UNLOCK BOOTLOADER NOW
You can't fastboot flash recovery while the bootloader is locked/relocked.
You need a microSD.
Download the 0P6BIMG.zip that I posted here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67526388&postcount=387
No need to worry what OS it is written for now, it will get fixed when you install RUU.
Place the 0P6BIMG.zip on root of microSD (means not in any folder)
Then put your phone on hboot, it will scan the file. Volume up to update (install). Once done, it will ask you to reboot but you know that your device is bootlooping, just put the device on bootloader (remove the microSD to delete the 0P6BIMG.zip)
Now you can boot to TWRP recovery and do the rest as described above.

Moreover, i made mistake that i also had flashed firmware file according to htc europe rom. Now which one should choose.
Doesn't matter about the firmware now .. just install RUU.
That was the guide written above.
1. Change MID
2. Install RUU exe that is linked above.
Make sure you have windows PC with usb2.0 and the latest htc usb drivers are installed.
HTC USB drivers - Install HTC Sync Manager - http://www.htc.com/us/support/software/htc-sync-manager.aspx
- it will install the needed drivers then uninstall the HTC Sync Manager but leave the drivers.
Or you can use RUU zip
0P6BIMG_Sprint_HTC_One_M8_6.20.651.3_RUU.zip that you can get in Sprint thread.
Rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip and install the same way as you installed TWRP above (microSD method)

What do you suggest now.
Then install 6.20.651.3 Signed Full Firmware first, see whether it can be installed.
Rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip and install it microSD method. If successful then install RUU.

There is another problem occured i flashed signed firmware now phone only shows the HTC logo and unable to restart what should do now???
Was the firmware installation successful ? This is important.
When you reboot, there is no OS, you need to put back to bootloader then install RUU.
(Same way after you installed TWRP before)
I think this is easier.. instead of going to Marsmallow, install the lollipop first just to get your phone up & running.
Install this 0P6BIMG_Sprint_HTC_One_M8_4.25.651.18_RUU.zip, for this you don't need to install firmware.
Once successful, then you can try again to install Marshmallow 0P6BIMG_Sprint_HTC_One_M8_6.20.651.3_RUU.zip but
you need to install 6.20.651.3 Firmware first.

What bands does your carrier uses for 3G and LTE (what band for each of those - they are 2 different things).

Hotspot is locked out on most US carrier versions. If you don't see Hotspot as an available "tile" in the notification quick settings, and no Hotspot widget, than the feature has been disabled on your stock ROM.
Easiest way to enable Hotspot is with the proper custom ROM (supports Sprint version M8).
