So Friday i went to verizon and bought me a new LG G3 phone, 32G memory 3G RAM, you know the good **** LOL. Well when i got home i wanted to root the phone but when i looked it up there was many options, IOROOT, TowelRoot, and Stump Root. So i tried towel root on the phone but when i clicked the button towel root said my device isnt compatible and my phones build is the VS98510B. So at that point i decided to try IOROOT. When i launched the batch file i made sure i made myself a developer, got the proper drivers, made it connect via usb and set the phone connection to Ethernet. Well in the batch file it said everything was good and that i just needed to click any button to continue well i did that but when i clicked a button it simply closed the batch file. All i clicked was the space bar and it closed. Stump root isnt compatible and im afraid to use bruteforce mode. Any one got any help with this? Andriod Kitkat 4.4.2
Use the brut force method in stump. Takes about 5 minutes.

So when i root it do i need to back up anything? Ive heard of whats called TWRP but idk what that is
I used stump root. My phones still works. You can't install twrp because bootloader is still locked, have to wait for a way to unlock it.

Read a bit here TWRP is a recovery and backup software for when you flash a custom ROM.. You're not flashing any custom ROMs just yet.. So... I don't think you need to backup anything just yet. After you root the phone you can use TWRP to backup your current stock ROM .. Good luck ..
:good:
I used ioroot with no problems. Check out this vid, pretty straight fwd on what you need to do.

My pleasure Hope you can find root using the desired software.. I'm in Korea..using the F400k but the latest update (v10l) couldn't find root using any of the available tools.. so.. I had to downgrade to the previous (v10g) and got root again. :victory:

This has ALWAYS worked well for me (Besides with the latest version update)... But I don't know if it would work on your device.. Try what you have. If all fails then give this a shot

I have the Sprint variant of the LG G4. Rooted running xposed. Its been running flawless since weve gotten xposed working. It was in my pocket then all of a sudden. Boot loop city. Cant get into download or recovery mode.
even if you use twrp and the reboot in recovery with app?
I dont think the sprint variant can use twrp yet.

Im only seeing for the h815 series. Sprint is LS991.
There were some people who flashed their H815T with the H815 stock rom and then used the LG tool to unlock the bootloader. Where are you guys and what happened to your phones? Did you manage to install the H815 Marshmallow on your phones?
Were there any side effects, aside from losing the Hong-Kong specific frequencies?
Anyone?
Hey mate.
So yes i did flash stock firmware for H815-eu onto my H815T during the process of rooting right at the beginning ...tbh i may have done this by mistake as there wasnt anything for H815T available in the thread. After i finished this process my phone for all the information i could see said it was a H815 but i couldnt unlock the bootloader. After this i flashed 7s rom even though it had no support and everything is fine. I am still running it and have no need to change.
I dont think there was any real trick here as deep down i dont think it converted it to a H815. Happy to help where i can but am certainly no expert. I just followed instructions at the time and tried flashing when it said no support
The only way to unlock the bootloader is to go to the LG developer site, and download an unlock.bin specific to your IMEI.
If your phone is an H815T, LG won't give you one. It doesn't matter if you're using firmware for the H815.

Thanks for writing. So to confirm, you tried the LG bootloader unlocker after you flashed the H815-eu, and it didn't work?

This is not possible at all. it's done by IMEI, so it doesn't matter which image you flash.
Yeah didnt work at all i cant remember how far i got but it was never really gonna work.
It is a pain not having unlock....but i am extremely impressed with 7s rom. Had loads of phone and this is bloody good for me.
Hope it changes with unlock...but im enjoying my G4 everyday still

Thanks for giving us details! Have you guys discovered any tips or tricks with the H815T? I installed the same rom as you as well as the lag fix you recommended in your previous posts.
I wonder when we are going to get Marshmallow? I feel that we were misled by LG when they said the H815 would be getting updates first. Most people probably thought that the H815T was the same thing, especially since there are H811, H812 etc...
Hey, guys, is it possible to flash any H815 custom roms to any H815 variants that do not have any unlocks for its bootloader? If so, is it through rooting, then using flashing apps like flashify? further, what about the dalvik cache, how do you wipe it without custom recovery?
qyrus said:
If you don't want to bother waiting you can flash the H815 MM kdz through LGUP. I've been on it for weeks with my H815T and everything works as it should. When the official H815T update is released it'll be pretty easy to swap over as well.

The above genius found a way to put Marshmallow on an H815T with no problems! It sounds like he did this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lgup-install-kdz-mm-lp-t3249803
But I can't figure out what kdz he used and whether we can upgrade without losing our apps/data/ instead of doing a full wipe... Thoughts anyone??

His directions weren't clear about whether he upgraded or wiped before flashing. So I followed the directions for upgrading....
And it worked! My H815T seems to be working fine on Marshmallow and all my apps and data are still there!

H818P for now. If your phone is similar to H818P and you could successfully flash H818P firmware in your phone. You can use the patched aboot.

Hi guys!
Disclaimer:
No more secure boot error!
I thank my friend @cerg2010cerg2010 for helping me out in patching the aboot.
-> Requirements:
LG G4 LGH818P
Rooted Phone
-> Steps:
(1) Downgrade to Lollipop version of the Android. Download here.
(2) Root your device.
(3) Download the patched aboot file. Click Here.
(4) Connect your phone to the computer. In command prompt, type "adb shell".
(5) Transfer the aboot file into /sdcard/ folder.
(6) Type "su" to enter the root shell. Then type "dd if=/sdcard/aboot_237568.bin of=/dev/block/<your aboot partition>".
(7) Restart your phone by typing "reboot".
You have unlocked your bootloader!
Refer Notes for more information.
-> Notes:
1) The aboot_237568.bin is the patched version of aboot partition of your device. Secure boot validation has been patched such that secure boot is always valid, so you can flash your own TWRP and Custom ROM.
2) Don't upgrade to any updated version of Android if you get any through OTA update. It might brick your device.

Sounds amazing. Please provide the details about the patch meaning what have you done exactly to get that patched aboot?
Could you please download my latest TWRP beta(!) and provide me the recovery log? Or someone else of course
My latest beta is a unified variant and so should work for h818 as well but maybe I need some small adjustments..

When you flash the patched aboot, the bootloader is unlocked. You don't need to do anything else.

Patched the secure boot validation function. The patched aboot has the secure boot set to always valid condition no matter what image you flash.
And after flashing KDZ the bootloader will still be unlocked ?

Proably not. Aboot is part of kdz flashing.
This is fantastic news! H812 user from Canada here hoping you can make this patch process work for our aboot too!
As in case of g flex 2..
Everyone be warned..
The aboot on lg k10 is not signed
But in lg g4 there is a hash verification to aboot.
It may result in a hard brick.. so be warned
first of all , thats great news. this is the same method we use in h815 with the unlock.bin from lg but instead of pushing the file directly, we flash it in bootloader. clever and nicely done.
since its public you should share it the right way not like this. i mean this is not a development project, this is about unlocking and flashing twrp. it should be a DEVDB thread in general under utilities section so that everyone can find it. Also the title should be: "Unlock Bootloader H818".
As it is, in a week or two its gonna fall at a second page and in search results also almost noone is gonna find it cause of the title.
in the op tell them about mmcblk0pX. They are not all expert , they don't know mmcblk0pX in g4 is like our sdX in linux.
Tell them the ls command to find which mmcblk0pX is the right one or how to find it with a root explorer. As it is, its just gonna give them an error and gonna ask you everyday about that.
We need h818 users too. To be able to start developing for more variants its important. Cooperate with steadfasterX to correct bugs in twrp (if there are any).
This would be the 1st step to start flashing together with us , custom roms.
Finally , Welcome H818 users
Oi funciona no h815p Brasil com o Android 6.0?

The LG G4 S has a locked bootloader. You cannot install a regular custom recovery. However, steadfasterX has created a customized TWRP recovery for G4's with locked bootloaders. It works a charm and I recommend it highly. Keep in mind though, it will not allow you to flash a custom rom.

My apologies if that turns out to be the case. Perhaps member srdrylmz would be willing to take the risk and test it out in order to pave the way for other LG G4 S owners as others have done for their particular models.

I did try the last version (5.0) on this model (H735) with LL, everything worked fine (0 errors) but upon reboot when i tried entering recovery i got stuck with the red led and black screen. After a battery pull when i got back into android it started optimizing apps (probably it had cleared the cache). I've tried getting the fish logs from the phone (followed the instructions in the
thread) but it appears there are none.
they have different chips so it wouldnt work G4s uses snapdragon 615
i can help porting it! I ported for unsupported LG devices in the past.
