[GUIDE] Deploying Astoria Packages Manually To W10M - Windows 10 Mobile

MOD EDIT: I'm closing this thread for now until the possibility opens back up for us to get Astoria running again. Too many posts cluttering away
Hi everyone,
After several days of sniffing Windows Update traffic and lots of downgrading
, I've found a way to get Astoria installed and working on the HTC One M8 for Windows. that's right..
In THEORY, this should work for all devices that aren't supported by Astoria project.
The reason for this: In the process to go straight to 10536 directly from wp8.1,
the needed aow.wim file got pulled by MS (for security reasons i suppose
and i have no idea when or if they will bring it back).
Requirements:
-installed WDK,WPAK,WPDK (containing iutool.exe) get it there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/win...ools-wdk-wpak-wpdk-cabs-building-wp8-t3183972
-w10m build 10536 installed on phone
-usb connection to pc
-astoria cabs
Here are the direct download links of the needed astoria cabs:
10166 (canonical)
Code:

10512 (diff)
Code:

10514 (diff)
Code:
http://wp.ds.download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/dflt/2015/08/microsoft.ms_projecta.mainos.cbsu_7ec3fb51b79d57de88e6adaa0e27800106ecedd8.cab
10536 (diff)
Code:

Instructions:
-Go to iutool path in cmd with admin rights (usually c:\program files (x86)\windows phone kits\8.1\tools\bin\i386)
-Type "iutool -l" to see if the device is connected and recognized.
1 put only the first cab (10166) to a new folder like c:\cabs
2 then type: iutool -v -p c:\cabs
3 it should push the cab to the device and start the update.
4 there might be a error 0x8024a110 but it should work.
5 the device will automatically reboot very soon and go to flash mode (gears) to apply the cab.
6 then there will be the usual "data migration".
Repeat steps 1-6 with all the cabs in correct order one by one.
Astoria should now be installed and working.
There are already guides on xda about getting apk's installed via wconnect.
Thanks to @snickler for helping me with the method to obtain the cabs even if ms tries to prevent it.
Thanks to XDA Dev Team for daily chats and support.

Well you sir are a genius, lol, thank you very much, will try it and report if it also works for my device (which has 512MB RAM only).

Anyone could upload iutool.exe?

You need to install the whole package, just iutool won't work, take it from the xda thread linked in the OP and install it, it's kinda big but the download speeds are good (if you do have good internet speeds).

I have a 6 GB limited plan. I will download at work

I can't seem to be able to flash the second cab, the first one gave the error but flashed but the second one gives the error and nothing happens.
EDIT: @Bnjalal do we need to keep the first cab in the folder, as far as I could understand from your instructions the answer would be no but I can't flash the second one?
Or do I need to do anything else?

@Ranomez my good Sir, I am not the op of this thread, I was just reading the threads trying to figure out why my 'supported device' getting error 14 and came through your posts and struggles and wanted to contribute to the good community. I am really sorry that I am not as experienced as the others here at XDA and thought that mentioning you here was the least I can do to offer help or support. But for the time being, I'm sure the OP will reply to you and offer support as he was the one who made the find

Oops, excuse me, I don't even know how I managed to confuse you for the OP, lol, sorry again.
EDIT: Meanwhile I answered my own question: DON'T keep the first cab in the folder, my device seems to be stuck in the flashing screen.

@Ranomez no worries pal, wish you all the best

An alternate way instead of putting them in one folder, you can call the individual cab directly. So instead of c:\cabs, you would put c:\cabs\blahblah.cab and it will stage that particular cab.
Throwing them one by one in a directory is an easier way to keep track of your progress.

Except the initial cab file the others just won't flash, might be cause I already installed the astoria files in the past with the change model trick (but it never worked) but I doubt it, probably it's because the device has 512MB RAM and astoria does a hardware check for that.
Anyway just to be sure I will downgrade to WP8.1 and take the update again.

BTW why not all cabs at a time ?
No need to DLOAD 6GB Stuff.
i836 is enough for everything, if any one would share. Just below than 10 MB

Because the cabs won't install all at once as some are diffs. Each cab is a corresponding package version. It checks for version dependencies and if there's a clash or if you're trying to install a cab that is lower or higher than the dependency, it won't let you do it.

@snickler oh yeah, got it, thanks mate !
Btw I saw you after a long time, where was hidden you

I've been around .

Confirmed 100% sure that this doesn't work on 512MB devices...only the first file can be flashed, the others can't.
Which means astoria does do some strange device hardware check or something like that.

Yes, exactly this. My 920 is still choking on trying to go to 10536 from 10166. Guess the servers are a bit bogged down with the 8.1 Update 2.
I'm certainly going to try this one.

Windows Phone 7 build 6176 Unlocked Emulator Image

Thankfully Microsoft didn't change anything in their 'protection' of the WP7 emulator image. Following the same steps as the previous build, I was able to unlock the new 'April Refresh' emulator image. It's largely the same but here's what I've noticed.
It seems a bit more buggy. I've noticed some odd screen drawing issues and even jaggy lines. Maybe it's my laptop?
Most apps seem slightly updated and more polished. A few quirks here and there.
Phone! Yup, you can see the dialer and it even fakes working.
Office is actually working. Looks like the apps shown in the videos they released.
v2... in my late night grogginess I missed the settings entries. This one should have all the settings unlocked now (including some new stuff that wasn't in the February build)
Unlocked Emulator bin v2 (multiupload) (fast mirror)
To launch it use the same process as before... "xde.exe WM70C1AprilUnlockedv2.bin"
Gizmodo posted a How to: Try Windows Phone 7 now. Although that was for the previous build, the same general steps apply. You'll just need to use the emulator bin above and the new Dev tools CTP - April Refresh. It will NOT work with the February release.
New long press menu?

Yea we need a mirror, rapidshare sucks.

Giving this a try just for fun =D.
I'm not getting any luck through the method that you mentioned to load up the BIN. Is there a way I can drop this file in a file, open up Visual Studio, and do an F5 to get the emulator going with the new image?

I haven't tried with this one but you couldn't debug with the previous version. It will launch it though.
Cannot run the ROM!
Hey guys,
When I try to run the ROM, it hangs at the "Loading...." stage and doesn't go further at all.
Do you have any idea what I might be doing wrongly?
The first version of ROM works perfectly though.

Are you using the old XDE or the one released yesterday? I haven't tried it in the previous one but I'm guessing this is the cause.
I missed the registry entries for the settings in the original one. I updated the OP with the corrected file.
How to run?
I put the .bin in /.../microsoft xde directory and launch xde.exe and it doens't start :/

Perhaps you should post that on the OP, to prevent these questions as last time it was unlocked...
Anyone have any ideas as to why the other apps (mail, facebook, etc) won't connect? It's gotta be some stupid registry entry like the rest of the "unlocking" or maybe just in a XML file somewhere. I'm fairly certain that they're using "SNService" for windows live and facebook status update type stuff and ActiveSync with some new plugins for Live mail, etc.

Sorry for being fussy here, cause I've always been a user of Mediafire, it gets the job done easily, so I kind of like it. Multiupload usually causes Megaupload to reject my ip, saying I have an elevated number of requests, bla bla. Rapidshare works only after a number of tries with the different server under advanced options, and the only one i use is zShare, and it sucks cause it downloads at unstable speeds(i get a speed ranging from 30kbp/s and 100kbp/s) while my max speed is 300kbps! Well, thanks for reading. It's okay if you don't change, I can live on.
EDIT: I saw the 100mbits server website, thanks freedom! although this is still a suggestion for the hosting of your files. thanks

Thank you for this. As you can tell in the videos, Public Speaking is NOT my thing. I've never enjoyed it, but I want to share what's in my head because it's selfish to keep it trapped up inside. This forum is so helpful for everyone because people are willing to share what they know to the whole world. That is an incredible thing that is happening. I just wanted to do my part.

Steps to successfully Flash your First ROM:
I would suggest you grab the Stock OEM WM 6 ROM for your phone. WM 5 version is HERE.
STOCK:
Try flashing the OEM WM 6 ROM to your phone. You might be happy with that one, but if not, it will install a newer radio so your GPS and phone functions will operate better.
CUSTOM:
1. Flash Hard SPL to your phone. Follow Video on first post.
2. Flash your prefered ROM to your Phone. Follow Video on first post.
3. Select and Flash a new/different Radio to your phone if you feel you need it. The Radio built into the WM 6 ROM is quite good, so a new one would not be fully neccessary.
If things go haywire, flash back to the Stock OEM ROM to recover. After flashing Stock OEM, you will need to flash Hard SPL again before going back to custom ROMs.
I ended up with a brick... i tried a OEM ROM... and it didn't work... Bootloader says: ipl 0.5 / spl 3.03.0000... and i can't install any version of WM5 or WM6, and, of course, I can't install HardSPL to try a cooked ROM

I'm away from home at the moment, but when I return, I'll be happy to help you get it going again, if it's possible.
That is if someone else does not beat me to it. I should return around 11th or 12th of this month.
Using my phone, I've been doing a bit of research, and I cannot find a reason for your phone bricking. When you flashed, what steps did you use, and what step did it fail at? Were you in BootLoader mode when you flashed? If you have an SD card installed, can you try it after pulling the SD card out and see if that helps? Also, maybe try flashing from the SD card and see if that is successful. Please report back and I'll do my best to support you while I'm away from home.
USB method didn't work for me, but i used SD methot with no major issues.
The problem I have is with te windows versions themselves. None that i tried work properly! i tried all the ROM's that you made and 15-20 others and i get the same result : a unusable phone. Then I have to use splexploit most of the times, try another version and so on...
This is the ROM'm I run at the moment: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395935 the real ultra light version
...but it's bearly usable: today screen is blank, the dialer is blank, and the TouchDiamond keyboard/kepad/qwerty are a bunch of lines and dots
I guess that what I have to do is modify this ROM in order to get rid of the parts that don't work, but that is a little out of my league, for now

[APP] Script for checking Kies firmware updates

I've written PHP script that pretends Kies application and asks Samsung's server about updates for given device. Reason for that was simple: I wanted to know about official Froyo release without manually checking it with Kies with registers hacks.

When you click on the PHP Website, a new project will be created, and it will contain hello world, delete everything from that window, and paste Zajecs code.
Note this is a web app you do everything inside the web browser.
hope this helps.

Hello,
this morning I got the message that there is "No firmware info with the given data". Yesterday it worked perfektly. The data I'm using:
getUpdateInfo('Europe Countries', 'GT-I9000HKDDBT', 'I9000XXJF3/I9000OXAJF3/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3');
What could be the reason?
Maybe a fimware update?

You haven't updated Kies version number, perhaps?

Kies was updated and Samsung changed protocol which Kies uses to check for firmware. That way my PHP script uses outdated protocol which does not work anymore. Will have to update it when I get my hands on new Kies.
Similar issue can be noticed when using old Kies. It was reported in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9013623
OK, so there was not any real change in protocol. Samsung just banned old Kies versions. File available under http://files.zajec.net/kies.updates.php.txt works again.
It shows "I9000XXJPO/I9000OXAJPO/I9000XXJPP/I9000XXJPO" for Europe Countries,
"I9000XWJM2/I9000OXXJM1/I9000XXJM1/I9000XWJM2" for Poland (no branding).
Not sure what do to do now... Wait for Polish release or use version for Europe Countires?
Great work!
Do you think fus site is publishing the .enc files passkey too, somewhere within its webservice ?
I guess it should be reasonable, as Kies shouldn't know anyone at first...

EasyWP7Updater
Hello hackers!
Earlier today I started working on a project that should make updating Windows Phones via cabs easier. It's called EasyWP7Updater. Currently only manual cab sending is enabled, you can grab cabs from the official update list thread or if you have a custom rom, your rom author might offer customization cabs.
Downloads: https://github.com/jessenic/EasyWP7Updater/downloads
Bug Reports and Feature Requests: https://github.com/jessenic/EasyWP7Updater/issues
Source code: https://github.com/jessenic/EasyWP7Updater/tree/
Future homepage: http://jessenic.github.com/EasyWP7Updater/
Please test and report all bugs you might find either responding to this thread or by posting them on the Issues page on Github. Feature requests are also welcome.
In the future I'll allow ROM builders to add cabs in the app, stay tuned!
I'll definitely hop on board to help =)

What the difference between xboxmod's cab sender and your?
will this app relock the phone when after updated?
xmod cab sender has this problem.
Really, @Magpir?!? That's just a matter of the CAB itself. It has nothing to do with the CAB sender. You'd get the same behavior if you update manually using any CAB sender, or if you update using the official Zune mechanism. It's already known what causes the re-lock (the "prevent relock" registry values that normally have the MS server where you phone checks its expected lock setting are restored by this update). It's also known how to avoid the problem (http://windowsphonehacker.com/artic...date_be_forewarned_possible_solution-06-28-12).
@jessenic: Nice project! Are you planning to include "fake an update just to take a backup" as a feature? It would be nice to narrow down the number of apps needed.

Possible in the future, it's open source so you could start working on that too

At the moment there is no big difference, but in the future my app will let you download cabs from ms servers in a simple way too.
Just tried it, and it works fantastic! Although, similar to other senders, this one should be easy and familiar to those who do not hack much. This makes it much simpler.
Since it's open source, are you allowing people to include it in other archives? I've downloaded and compressed the updates, added cab sender, then uploaded it for easy installation. Can I do that with this if I give you credit?
Thanks for your hard work. Great Job!

We are adding automatic download for all OS versions, it detects the one on phone and shows latest versions and tells the user how to check which language packs are installed. That's the plan at least.

It solely depends on how ROM packages are built. Have you noticed "Shadows" tab in DSM editor?
What the heck is this?
Maybe my brain is still asleep but how the hell do you execute this? There is no file to run it. All I'm seeing is uncompiled VB files.
!update!
Wow what a bad setup on the download page. So I guess I had to source download but still it's pretty confusing.

sweet deal
worked well enough, and was easy to boot
just some quirky things with the play by play:
why have it denote the same % over and over? this entire process does not take all that long, waiting for the next percent doesn't take so long that we really need to know its still at 0%. I imagine its to let us know that things are still rolling, but seriously, if it sits for a minute or two and hasn't ticked over to the next percent, obviously something is wrong
where exactly did the backup I made end up?
the "installing updates..........." message didn't display until after the updates had actually been installed
and it finished with

Yeah that part needs some fixing. Its already on my todo-list.
Edit: Oh and the backup is in the default Zune backup folder, you can restore it with Zune.
This is an awesome tool. Thank you very much for making the update process painless.
My one suggestion would be to add a progress bar so the user can how many more steps the software has to go through.
Thanks again.
I attached the download file as GitHub is deprecating it's downloads section.
This is a really useful tool!

I was able to add a new language to my locked Samsung Focus SGH-i917 v.1.4.
I subsequently updated it to 8862 using SevenEighter without any hiccups.

[DRIVER] [GUIDE] Finally, how to get fastboot to work on Windows 8.1

Hi guys,
One issue appeared with Windows 8.1 which I found very annoying : the Wildfire S wasn't recognized anymore in fastboot mode. Not very useful to flash system or recovery images... Usually, the solution was to use Linux, but one cannot (or doesn't want to) install Linux on one's PC
So thanks to Auth from 4pda and @niks255 (I'm actually only reposting it here), we now have a way to make these drivers work on Windows. Here's what you need to know :
The actual issue is caused by a lack of BOS descriptor : the Wildfire S doesn't provide any although it has USB > 2.00. Windows 8 accepted it, but not 8.1.
To use this patch, you must have KB296791 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2967917/en-us) installed. To check this just go to Control Panel - Programs and features - View installed updates and type KB296791 in the searchbox on the right top corner. If you don't have this update installed, just update your Windows using Windows Update.
Then, download the attached registry key file, Fastboot.reg.txt and rename it to Fastboot.reg.
Open an admin console by right-clicking on the Start button and choosing Console (admin). Then type the regedit command. The registry manager should now open.
Choose File/Import key and import Fastboot.reg.
Done ! It was that simple. Now you can use fastboot whenever you wish
This isn't limited to just the Wildfire S, right? I have an HTC One S that I'd like to get this working with.
EDIT: Just tried it and it worked! Thank you so much for posting this!!!

Thank you!! I've found so many forums around the internet where people have the same problem with no fix; this is great! This worked to make fastboot recognize my HTC Incredible 4g LTE (fireball) in the command prompt! Hallelujah!
i have this patch installed and applied reg file but it still not work.
