Charging slow???

Out of the blue I noticed my S3 was charging very slowly, it even was losing a charge while it was plugged in while I was using it. I figure it had something to do with my custom ROM so I reflash, still same outcome. The battery was still holding a good charge, so I figured it was something else. I then went out and bought a new charger, which came with a micro usb cord to see if that helped. Plugged in the new charger while using my old micro usb cord, still same outcome. Then used the new micro usb cord and old charger, charging went back to normal, problem solved! I would of never thought that the cord would malfunction from day to day use after such a short lifespan. Moral of the story, check your cords if you experience the same problem, it could save you some time and money!

Cables do go bad. Also, check for gunk in either end of the cable or even the phone's socket. I've seen all kinds of odd problems caused by lint and gunk in cables or plugs.

That is why I have a couple cords always laying around. I've found that simple things as unplugging it to fast and it gets pulled wrong. Go figure.

True story; My wife has an S3. Over the Memorial Day weekend my wife had charged her phone with a EVO charger overnight. Next morning as we were leaving for the beach her phone was DEAD. I TOLD HER TO PUT IT ON THE CAR CHARGER, NOTHING. I asked if the phone was plugged in anyway long story short phone would not charge until I took the battery out and used the factory charger two hours all was well. Careful what you use to charge your handset.:angel:

I was having this problem, but the battery is over a year old and I live in a hot part of the world. Swapped the battery for a new one and everythings back to new. Fast chargimg and 9 hours of use. So glad I didn't go ti an HTC with a sealed battery compartment.

I would replace the battery and charger.

I've got the same problem. But my phone sits in a hot work truck most of the day. I suspect the battery is worn out now. I've tried new cables.

You could always try a new oem battery, they're pretty cheap on eBay. Make sure you get an oem though and stay away from the cheap knock offs.

[Q] Is there a fix for the usb port charging issue ?

First thing, sorry if this has been answered before. The thread search never works from my phones. It just disappears as soon as my keyboard appears.
Is there a way to fix the USB /charging port to keep it from being so touchy? I've tried new factory data /charge cable. I've tried expensive brand name cables. They all seem to work for a more th or two pretty well and then its back to charge/not charge sometimes without even touching the phone.
This has been the way with every Samsung phone I've owned and it is so aggravating because, as I'm trying to type or while playing a game it interrupts and causes lags and also the battery will die while I think its charging if I can't see a battery icon.
Other than sending both my phones in for new USB jacks/ports, is there something I can do? I'm pretty capable at fixing electronics if not too technical.

seem to be having bad luck with your ports i would suggest a new charger but im sure you've done that a plentiful of times or you just have really bad luck with phones thats stuff get an iphone JK!!! lol you stick to samsung chargers not no after market stuff right ? and does the cable feel securely tighten or loose when you plug it ? is this phone old new you could have a dirty port spray some air can in that port to clear debris

I think this problem stems from me being on the phones a lot and I have the the charging /data cable in a lot to keep the battery up. With that, the constant mmovement of up and down from table /desk top, to ear,or car seat /center console to my pocket as im in and out of my car.
The cable always feels loose in the jack. Im sure the jack is stretched open. The chip that is inside, may be has worn and the edges of the board slightly filed down making a loose connection .
Anyways, Ive already had to start charging the battery directly. I've also got a replacement ordered. That's why I pay for insurance right?

I have the same problem... I'm on my 3rd Galaxy s2...... Phone can be on charger at 15% let it charge for a few hours and when I go back to check on it, it says 10% battery.. I've bought several chargers and batteries... TMobile just keeps sending me the same phone out.. I just got another one on the 13th... What could be the cause of this... Also the phone shuts off while charging... So many dropped calls.. I give up on this phone... What can I do..

Same problem here. The best luck is (oddly) using a computer (instead of a wall charger) and charging while the phone is off. And, the original Samsung charger block and USB are the least reliable of all I have tried. The microUSB end of the cable is slightly undersized. Note: removing the battery completely (while not connected by cable) for 10sec seems to improve the charging.
It has been a good phone but 3 years might be all it can handle. Xperia Z3 compact, here I come.

[Q] Note 2 barely charging?

Hi guys,
Running omega v16 and have been very stable since I installed it a couple of months ago.
This morning I woke up and having been charging my phone overnight it was only on 40%?! Using it for a while it while plugged in made the percentage go down! Normally it slowly increases with use or fully charges when not used in about 2-3 hours.
I've rebooted and no use! A different charger doesn't seem to have helped things.
The galaxy charging app says max - 100, avg - 100, now - 1698. (http://www.imgur.com/QWO80GY.png)
If I unplug and plug it back in they all temporarily go to 1698 (but average 0) before slowly decreasing down to 100?. It's almost as though the battery is reporting itself as full and not accepting charge?
Reboots haven't helped! I really need my phone to be guy charged for this evening so any tips would be great.

On 29% now n's it's been plugged in pretty much the whole time! Lowest brightness too.

Same happens with the Galaxy S3, sometimes it's because of the cable (you get a new genuine samsung charger+usb cable) and other times it's because of unstable current from the plug, which is rare and shouldn't happen if it worked before.
Some people also say stock kernel fixes it.
I would recommend the new charger/usb.

Hi mate, Appreciate the quick response It was indeed the cable!
I hadn't even thought of that and was going straight to different USB chargers. The stock sammy cable & charger had previously worked fine but now wasn't, replacing the cable got me 1000 and 1400 'units' of charging (mA or mAh I think?) - far better than the 100 I was getting earlier on (and only just shy of the 1698 that the stock cable used to get).
Comparing the cable to a good one I would say that perhaps the centre pins are somewhat out of place, so maybe it wasn't making a good connection in the phone? Don't think I did anything nasty to it and I've always been really careful but I guess these things happen. At some point I'll be looking to order a new micro usb cable so if you know of any good ones or ones to avoid then please fill me in

The genuine samsung usb cables are very good quality, micro usb cables are a little fragile and overtime they tend to have some problems.
You are getting the right-ish amount of mA now so you're good to go
(Optimal is 2000 for the note 2)
The phone charging slower is a security mechanism in the kernel that detects unstable current and throttles charging to a safe value to prevent damage, you can disable it in STweaks if you want to use the old cable but that's pretty risky.
Protip: the thicker the cable the better, usually.

It definitely felt and still looks like a great cable- shame it doesn't function as such I've kept the one that gave me 1400 as my new permanent charger cable for now but actually it wasn't doing anything else before so I may well just continue to use this one!
Ah that would be why then - it presumably detected it jumping all over the place as the pins made and lost connection - but I love my note and think I'll avoid messing with any tweaks that could break it! Think I'll just stick to a new cable

I would like to add on...there are people who changed the cables and adapters three Times at the phone store but to no avail.... some believe these cables are faulty from the factory...one guy went to the extent of building his own cable..the guy is good with electricity/electronics concepts (amps, voltage, resistance, watts etc) and funny another guy wanted him to build a custom cable for him and sell it to him here on XDA lol
I faced the same issue..I just threw away the note II adapter..I use my Samsung Galaxy S II cable and it charges decently fast not sure if will be as fast as the original due to minor amp differences but it charges fast and the cable is much longer

Could be a faulty batch, Samsung changed my S3's cable/wall adapter here in Qatar for free, so I won't complain.

could be.... but the point I'm trying to make even if you don't get a good galaxy note II adapter you could use other Samsung micro USB adapters like galaxy s II adapter I'm using but the voltage could be lower and charging may be slower but faster than the faulty adapter

True, it isn't the voltage, it's the amps.
With an S3 charger the Note 2 will charge twice slower.
The S2 charger will charge even slower.
The S3 charger is 5V/1A
The Note 2 charger is 5V/2A
The S2 charger is 5V/0.7A

yea right !!! I can charge my note II in one and a half to two hours with my s II charger...it's ok for me me used to it now

[Q] Slow Charge with Including USB3.0 Charger

So this is an update to a previous issue I had...
When I first got this phone, the included USB3.0 charger charged much faster than a standard microUSB charger. But then it stopped charging fast. It pretty much stopped charging at all really. Like maybe 1% battery added in like 20 minutes.
So I sent it into Samsung and they returned it saying they couldn't replace it because the wall adapter part was actually from a Note 2 which doesn't support the 3.0 wire (even though it was absolutely the one that came in the box). Once I got it back, I found a brand new set of the same wire and adapter (it was covered with the packing plastic wrap and all that stuff which is what makes me think it was actually a replacement). I plugged in my phone and it charged quick again for about a day. Then it went back to charging slow again.
I still need to get down to T-Mobile to see if they'll exchange the wall adapter which supposedly doesn't work with the USB3.0 cable even though both times it worked at first. It's their mistake but I have a hard time believing they'll own up to it... The model on the adapter by the way is EP-TA10JWE with an output of 5.3V 2.0A.
Assuming they don't exchange it... What do you guys think are my options here? I ordered a 3rd party USB3.0 cable from Amazon and that does the same super slow charging as this (and it didn't come with a different wall adapter anyway so it was kind of a stupid purchase on my part). I tried plugging the cable into a computer with USB3.0 and it didn't make a difference. Is there a different wall adapter that is known to work with the fast charging on this phone that I can buy? Is it AT ALL possible that the connector on my phone is the problem and I need a new phone? That would be terrible, but if it's something I need to do I will. It charges just fine and the same speed as any other phone when I use a microUSB cord and adapter like the one that came with my old S3.
Any thoughts?

That's weird brother. I checked my charger and i have the same model number and mine charges extremely fast. Maybe it's a problem with the device it's self.

I've noticed the same thing with mine ..and definently trickling on USB 2 .. I thought USB 3 was suppose to be all the hype about how it would do when u turn fast charge on in a rooted phone with custom kernel.. The charging is slower than my note 2 on USB 2..

its so weird that it DID charge faster for that first couple days (and again after I got the new one)... And I have 2 friends with Note 3's that say they charge faster than their previous phones (one of them had a Note 2).
I just don't know what to do...

The enhanced speed with USB 3.0 is for data transfer, not charging. Using a USB 2.0 or 3.0 will charge your phone at the same speed.

Well first of all, every review says it charges faster with the included 3.0 charger... So I don't see how you could be right about that... Not trying to argue, it's just that was one of the features that everyone talked about... And second of all, the 3.0 charger that came with it barely charges at all anyway anymore, so even if that was true, either the cable, adapter, or phone still has a problem... Phone charges fine, maybe 3 hours for 100% charge with a microUSB cable... About 1% in 10 minutes (that's as long as I can bring myself to bother testing the 3.0 charger for). And that's if the screens off. If the screen is on it actually just won't charge at all, it's like it drains quicker than it's charging with the screen on with that 3.0 cable... Again I say "cable" but it could be the cable or the adapter or the phone that's the problem... I'd love to find a way to figure out which it is...

For some reason the 3.0 charger charged lightening fast today ... Maybe the jedi ROM had to settle in for a few days maybe?

Extremely slow charging with micro USB 2.0

This weekend I manged to leave my included Note III Micro USB B 3.0 charger at a friends. I didn't think it was a big deal because I knew I had plenty of micro USB 2.0 Cables I could use in the meantime as they are supposedly backwards compatible.
I was home watching football for most of the day yesterday. The phone charged all day yesterday but I don't remember it ever getting as high as 45%. I didn't get worried until last night when I looked closely and realized the percentage was declining as I used and charged it.
When I went to sleep at about 12:30am I was at 9%. My WiFi and 4Glte were both off and I wok up at 5:30 am to find my phone at 63% only after 5 hours. This is the same charger I used with my Samsung Galaxy S3 just over a week ago til I got this. Why isn't it charging. I'm afraid I'm harming my battery somehow. That's why I'm writing this at 5:45 am instead of sleeping. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
P.S. In the 10 minutes it's taken me to write out this thread my battery has declined to 62. (Still on charger)

I had a usb2.0 cable plugged in in my car and I went skiing and streamed music and did the same while plugged in on the way home. I don't know if the cable just slowed battery usage or not but it was plugged in for 2 hours on the way home and I still lost like 5% while plugged in. I bought a USB3.0 cable off Amazon and it works well in my car, not as fast as plugged in to the wall charger but much better than 2.0

I understand that 3.0 will be faster but this is horrendous. It's now 8 hours since I plugged it in and I'm at 74%. And it's plugged in to a wall adapter not a computer or car. Haven't even had this phone for two weeks. Samsung you're killing me here.

Not sure. My phone charges the same on both 2 and 3. I know data transfer is faster on 3. I don't think charging is.

It's not, at least, not from a wall charger that follows the specs. USB3 will charge faster from a computer with the drivers set up properly, but the stock wall plug is 2A (max), all the time. If you get better charging from a USB3 cable, your USB2 cable is probably using really thin wires or just is wearing out.
Some generic chargers are all over the place. Some don't short the data lines so the phone doesn't know if it should be able to fast-charge. Some don't actually put out the current they are rated for.
IF you use the charger the phone came with, and a GOOD USB2/3 cable, it will charge properly. If its not, you have something wrong in your setup. I use the charger that came with the N3 (and the N2), and a Nook or a Monoprice.com USB2 cable. Nice fast charging. I have never used the USB3 cable as I prefer to be able to charge other devices from the same cable and I don't own any USB3 computers.
I also get good charge speed from an older HTC 1A charger. Not as fast, but faster than I expected to get. Note that's a charger that came with a G2 and G2x, not some ebay crap. That's not to say that generic ebay chargers can't be good chargers, just that many of them aren't. If in doubt, use all OEM stuff, at least for testing.
What's probably happening for most people having slow charging on older and/or generic charging setups is one of these...
1) The charger doesn't short the data pins so the phone thinks it's connected to a computer USB and limits charge current to 500mA.
2) The charger doesn't output what the writing on the side claims, and the phone detects this, so it limits itself to charging as best it can.
3) The USB cable uses small, cheap wires and creates too much voltage drop, causing the phone to limit its charge rate.
4) Connector wear is causing voltage drops due to a bad connection. Try a new cable. Not a different cable, a NEW cable.
5) Your Note3 is defective and needs to be replaced. This isn't real likely, but damage to the USB port could cause it.
The Note wants a lot more current than older devices. It also has a system to detect issues that older phones didn't have. I think the first I saw with it was the N2. The phone detects voltage fluctuations under load and adjusts its current draw to keep the voltage as steady as it can. This makes the device more picky about having a good charger and cable. That can be a pain, but it also prevents overloading the charger, which could be something expensive like a computer, which prevents damage. Note that this doesn't harm the battery, it just won't charge as fast as you might like. At 500mA, it's actually possible for the phone to use more than that, so your charge will go down while plugged in. That's not going to hurt anything, it's just how it is.
For the OP: Try a decent wall charger. If you don't have anything better, you'll have to turn the Note OFF while charging. That should at least get your battery charged overnight. If it's a long cable, try a shorter one, that can make a difference. Or try to find a thicker cable, but that's not always a guarantee the wires inside are any thicker.
