Hi guys,
Running omega v16 and have been very stable since I installed it a couple of months ago.
This morning I woke up and having been charging my phone overnight it was only on 40%?! Using it for a while it while plugged in made the percentage go down! Normally it slowly increases with use or fully charges when not used in about 2-3 hours.
I've rebooted and no use! A different charger doesn't seem to have helped things.
The galaxy charging app says max - 100, avg - 100, now - 1698. (http://www.imgur.com/QWO80GY.png)
If I unplug and plug it back in they all temporarily go to 1698 (but average 0) before slowly decreasing down to 100?. It's almost as though the battery is reporting itself as full and not accepting charge?
Reboots haven't helped! I really need my phone to be guy charged for this evening so any tips would be great.
Thanks.
On 29% now n's it's been plugged in pretty much the whole time! Lowest brightness too.
Same happens with the Galaxy S3, sometimes it's because of the cable (you get a new genuine samsung charger+usb cable) and other times it's because of unstable current from the plug, which is rare and shouldn't happen if it worked before.
Some people also say stock kernel fixes it.
I would recommend the new charger/usb.

Hi mate, Appreciate the quick response It was indeed the cable!
I hadn't even thought of that and was going straight to different USB chargers. The stock sammy cable & charger had previously worked fine but now wasn't, replacing the cable got me 1000 and 1400 'units' of charging (mA or mAh I think?) - far better than the 100 I was getting earlier on (and only just shy of the 1698 that the stock cable used to get).
Comparing the cable to a good one I would say that perhaps the centre pins are somewhat out of place, so maybe it wasn't making a good connection in the phone? Don't think I did anything nasty to it and I've always been really careful but I guess these things happen. At some point I'll be looking to order a new micro usb cable so if you know of any good ones or ones to avoid then please fill me in
Thanks!

Great
The genuine samsung usb cables are very good quality, micro usb cables are a little fragile and overtime they tend to have some problems.
You are getting the right-ish amount of mA now so you're good to go
(Optimal is 2000 for the note 2)
The phone charging slower is a security mechanism in the kernel that detects unstable current and throttles charging to a safe value to prevent damage, you can disable it in STweaks if you want to use the old cable but that's pretty risky.
Protip: the thicker the cable the better, usually.

It definitely felt and still looks like a great cable- shame it doesn't function as such I've kept the one that gave me 1400 as my new permanent charger cable for now but actually it wasn't doing anything else before so I may well just continue to use this one!
Ah that would be why then - it presumably detected it jumping all over the place as the pins made and lost connection - but I love my note and think I'll avoid messing with any tweaks that could break it! Think I'll just stick to a new cable
Really appreciate your advice!
I would like to add on...there are people who changed the cables and adapters three Times at the phone store but to no avail.... some believe these cables are faulty from the factory...one guy went to the extent of building his own cable..the guy is good with electricity/electronics concepts (amps, voltage, resistance, watts etc) and funny another guy wanted him to build a custom cable for him and sell it to him here on XDA lol
I faced the same issue..I just threw away the note II adapter..I use my Samsung Galaxy S II cable and it charges decently fast not sure if will be as fast as the original due to minor amp differences but it charges fast and the cable is much longer

could be.... but the point I'm trying to make even if you don't get a good galaxy note II adapter you could use other Samsung micro USB adapters like galaxy s II adapter I'm using but the voltage could be lower and charging may be slower but faster than the faulty adapter

True, it isn't the voltage, it's the amps.
With an S3 charger the Note 2 will charge twice slower.
The S2 charger will charge even slower.
The S3 charger is 5V/1A
The Note 2 charger is 5V/2A
The S2 charger is 5V/0.7A
yea right !!! I can charge my note II in one and a half to two hours with my s II charger...it's ok for me me used to it now

Seeing as all of my old chargers are for my SGS2 and put out a measly 0.7A compared to the 2A of the note 2 charger, I was wondering if I can use a different USB cable with the note 2 charger and still get the full 2A from it?
The reason I ask is the original USB cable that comes with it doesn't seem to be well thought out and has difficulty staying in if you move the phone about while charging.
Got the same issue. Tried galaxy Nexus cable. And it barely charged several percent.

Most cables should work. But it requires a good quality and moderately thick cable to provide close to 2A without a massive voltage drop.
You could try to shave a little of the excess plastic from the original SGN2 cable, so as to make the connector longer. My phone does not have a problem holding to the USB connector as is, but it seems quite a few other users have some trouble.
If you really need a new cable, try to avoid the cheapest ones. Also don't get one longer than what's needed.

I bought a 3m long cable. Works just as the regular. This cable is about as thick as the original. I would avoid the very thin cables when using the 2Amp charger.
Just a warning... If a cable does not fit, do not make it fit. Mine did not at first. Adjust the "hooks" on the contact by pushing them in slightly. There will be less force needed when connecting and it will still sit more tightly than the original.
Just buy a USB extension cable.
I'm using the original charger with the cable from my Kindle paper white and it seems to charge just fine. What's the advantage of using thicker cables?

I noticed that the Note 2 is a hungry beast. Have it for two days and tried to charge it on my Note 1 craddle with the Note 1 charger. Charged for 6 or so hours but was only at 57% when I took it of. You definitely have to use the 2A charger and mind the cables!
My Note 2 came from Handtec and was in French packaging, and the Samsung 2A charger was a 2 pin version but Handtec had supplied another charger with the UK 3 pins. This works fine but is only 1A and I've been using a range of other micro USB chargers and they all seem to be ok.

I don't think it's fair to say that, at least regarding the chargeing cable. Samsung uses a regular microUSB connector, just like all phones sold in the EU should. It's Apple that insists on proprietary connectors.
The Note II has a large capacity battery (good thing, right?) and Samsung decided to provide it with a power converter capable of chargeing the phone in a relatively short time. It requires a moderately good quality cable to allow a strong current to reach the phone within USB limits, but that's just physics. Not Samsung's fault.
(I do, however, blame sellers of very cheap cables. Buyers are the ones who suffer because the manufacturer decided to shave a cent or two from their costs.)
What I would recommend those that need a longer cable is to get an electrical extension instead.

Besides being physically stronger it can also have slightly thicker treads, allowing a bigger current, with less voltage drop until it reaches the phone. Orginal cable is 23AWG (power) and 30AWG (date). The thinner they get the more voltage drop, the longer they get the more voltage drop. The voltage drop is also affected by the material of the cables... The thickness of the cable may just be stronger shielding or better isolation, so look at the AWG markings and avoid too long cables.
My 3 meter, 24AWG (power) and 28AWG (data), error... sigh... AWG size is opposite towards milimeter... The lower AWG the thicker thread in the cable. The lowest AWG threads on the cable is for charging.

I've got saerm problem, the reason is that the micro usb tip ( the one you insert on the Note 2) is short. It can be easily solved by buying a different cable, or like what I did, I just filed the surrounding plastic to make the metal bit longer. It now latches perfectly with a click !!! Good luck

Both cables took 5 hrs to fully charge note 2
So i think if u use propriety samsung galaxy series cable it dosent matter
The i charged the phone wi sgs2 original charger
It took about 8 hrs to reach frm5% to 100%
So i think the output of the charger matters not the cable
I cant say the same about non propriety usb cables as i havent used those

I did not say there would be extreme differences, but if you want a good quality cable... It does not say what AWG the SGS2 cable has (I find no markings), but the cable is a factor, but a small one, than can be noticeable especially if you have some length on the cable. If you use 1Amp on a 1.8 m 28AWG copper cable there is almost 16% voltage drop. If you double the current you also double the voltage drop. That does not mean that the charging time will be changed much in some cases since there are other factors that affect it too (internal electronics that handles the charging, battery health, the real charge Voltage/Current at the battery leads....).
I just got a high quality cable from Manhattan Products and their website says:
http://manhattan-products.com/en-US/products/9204-hi-speed-usb-device-cable
28 AWG conductors
Shielded
Withstanding voltage: 300 V DC 10 ms
Insulation resistance: 5 MOhms
Contact resistance: 10 OhmsThermal plastic casing.
What's the AWG of the original cable? Is my cable's awg for the data or current?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Orginal is 23AWG power and 30AWG data. You can read it the cable actually. You even see that it has dual commons.
If it has dual sizes the bigger size is power (bigger is strangely enough a lower AWG). If it only mentioned one size then it is used both for data and power.

When rooting the Galaxy S4 phone, it has been said on this forum that original USB cable must be used. I read people's posts where they said that Galaxy S3 cable did not work whereas using the S4 original cable that came with the phone worked.
I may have confirmed this the hard way when I also could not root the S4 until I used its original cable. The thing is, in addition to using the original USB cable, I also switched USB ports.
So is the cable itself different, or was it perhaps using a different port that made the difference?
I am not talking about low quality cables vs S4 cable, I am talking about genuine cables like the one that comes with S3, is there a difference between it and the S4 cable? I know the S4 charger is a 2 Amp charger, I know it's different and I am not talking about that, my question is about the cable itself.
No you dont need the original that is bs. I haven't used my original at all. I used the one from my S2 and S3 with no problem.

I have only used an amazon .99$ cable on all my phones. Never had a single problem. I leave the original cable and charger in the box.
Download "galaxy charging current lite"
Plug in each cable
You will see that different cables give you different voltages for charging. Ive only seen the highest (1900) with my original cable and that charges pretty quick. My s3 cable only charges at 1000 and my sisters crappy phone charger would only push 300 which is not enough to charge the battery.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 2
Once again, multiple posts in Galaxy S4 threads mention to be SURE to use the original cable, especially when people have problems, and then they report problems resolved after using the original S4 cable that came with the phone. So several people that I've seen, including myself resolved problems after trying the original Galaxy S4 cable instead of the old ones, with one person specifically saying that even the Galaxy 3 cable did not work.
Judging by the post above, it is the cables themselves and not simply what they are plugged into (for example a new 2 amp power source vs older lower amp power sources or even different USB port).
So then the logical follow up question is HOW do you tell you are getting a cable that can match the original Galaxy S4 cable if nobody really lists the cable specs?
Thanks PostMeridianLyf for posting about that app. I just measured all the cables in the house. Some came in as low as 300, found three that came in at 1900, just like the original S4. I suppose the only way to tell is to test them after getting them. There should be an industry standard.
If you're going to charge the S4 overnight, is it actually preferable to use a 300 USB cord instead of the original 1900 cord because the charging would take (much) longer but would actually be easier on the battery life?

I wouldnt think so. If you keep refreshing it you will see that the phone is able to vary the charge and will slow or stop charging the battery when its full.
Besides, its the stock charger for a reason and batteries are not too expensivd either. Just my opinion though, and i dont even think 300 would be near enough

How cheap batteries are is not the point.
If you use a speed charger on regular batteries they will not last nearly as long as when you use a charger that takes several hours to fill them up.
After you go to bed, if you are looking at a few hours of sleep, then it doesn't matter how long the charge takes, doesn't it stand to reason that given a choice, we should choose the slower charging process and extend battery life?
Just try it. But i know for a fact 300 wont even keep your phone on.

in theory and in a lab? yes it will extend the battery life by some statistically relevant amount.
in the real world? you would see a bigger impact from heat (like gaming, using the phone outdoors, etc) on the battery than a slower charging current.
Heat kills batteries, not a sub 1C charging rate.

I don't know what "all" phones means but this is a Galaxy S4 forum and if you use the app posted earlier to measure an old cable, and it happens to be a low current cable, you will not be able to Odin to root the Galaxy S4.
My Galaxy S4 did connect to my computer but I was not able to successfully root using Odin UNTIL I used the original cable which the app measured at 1900 vs. other cables which ranged from 300 to 600 to 900 to 1100. The same was confirmed by multiple users on this forum. Whenever someone has problems rooting Galaxy 4 through Odin, one of the first questions asked now is 'which cable are you using?'
I measured some old cables to match the original Galaxy S4 cable, but there is no way to tell unless you use the new 2 amp Galaxy S4 charger to send the current through and measure each cable using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.abmantis.galaxychargingcurrent.free

The main issue here that people are referring to is the pins on the cables. Certain manufacturers are known to use extra pins in the connectors. These serve a few purposes which I won't get into. You may notice on those cables only reaching 300 mAh that the data transfer is also slower. On the factory one, the data transfer will be quicker.
That's all there is to it. Your phone will root just fine. Now, sometimes a crappy charger will really screw with the phone and battery and the only way to "reset" it so it works fine is to use the factory charger. Like when your phone says it's charging even though it's not plugged in.
As far as "trickle charging" a Li-ion battery (ours is a lithium ion polymer battery I think) its worthless generally. Trickle charging is an old trick use on lead-acid and nickel-cadmium batteries. Li-ion works in a totally different way. No real point exists for using that method on these batteries. You might as well charge fast and use your phone than waste time at 300 mAh. Your battery has a chip in it that takes care of all the dirty work. It maintains the proper charging current and will top off the charge as needed while it's plugged in - which is what a trickle charge would do if done correctly.

Thanks for this app! Just tossed out a bunch of cheap-ass USB cables that couldn't deliver more than 300 mA.
So this is an update to a previous issue I had...
When I first got this phone, the included USB3.0 charger charged much faster than a standard microUSB charger. But then it stopped charging fast. It pretty much stopped charging at all really. Like maybe 1% battery added in like 20 minutes.
So I sent it into Samsung and they returned it saying they couldn't replace it because the wall adapter part was actually from a Note 2 which doesn't support the 3.0 wire (even though it was absolutely the one that came in the box). Once I got it back, I found a brand new set of the same wire and adapter (it was covered with the packing plastic wrap and all that stuff which is what makes me think it was actually a replacement). I plugged in my phone and it charged quick again for about a day. Then it went back to charging slow again.
I still need to get down to T-Mobile to see if they'll exchange the wall adapter which supposedly doesn't work with the USB3.0 cable even though both times it worked at first. It's their mistake but I have a hard time believing they'll own up to it... The model on the adapter by the way is EP-TA10JWE with an output of 5.3V 2.0A.
Assuming they don't exchange it... What do you guys think are my options here? I ordered a 3rd party USB3.0 cable from Amazon and that does the same super slow charging as this (and it didn't come with a different wall adapter anyway so it was kind of a stupid purchase on my part). I tried plugging the cable into a computer with USB3.0 and it didn't make a difference. Is there a different wall adapter that is known to work with the fast charging on this phone that I can buy? Is it AT ALL possible that the connector on my phone is the problem and I need a new phone? That would be terrible, but if it's something I need to do I will. It charges just fine and the same speed as any other phone when I use a microUSB cord and adapter like the one that came with my old S3.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
That's weird brother. I checked my charger and i have the same model number and mine charges extremely fast. Maybe it's a problem with the device it's self.

The enhanced speed with USB 3.0 is for data transfer, not charging. Using a USB 2.0 or 3.0 will charge your phone at the same speed.

Well first of all, every review says it charges faster with the included 3.0 charger... So I don't see how you could be right about that... Not trying to argue, it's just that was one of the features that everyone talked about... And second of all, the 3.0 charger that came with it barely charges at all anyway anymore, so even if that was true, either the cable, adapter, or phone still has a problem... Phone charges fine, maybe 3 hours for 100% charge with a microUSB cable... About 1% in 10 minutes (that's as long as I can bring myself to bother testing the 3.0 charger for). And that's if the screens off. If the screen is on it actually just won't charge at all, it's like it drains quicker than it's charging with the screen on with that 3.0 cable... Again I say "cable" but it could be the cable or the adapter or the phone that's the problem... I'd love to find a way to figure out which it is...
For some reason the 3.0 charger charged lightening fast today ... Maybe the jedi ROM had to settle in for a few days maybe?

I lost the original charger to my 10.1 2014 Edition and I've had problems ever since. Earlier this week I thought I would order a Limefuel 24W 4.8A dual port rapid charger. I thought to myself: Hey I can untick Power saving and have all my needed apps running. Even using a root mod to run 4 way multitasking. Yet it's still sucking up more juice than the charger is spitting out. Am I doing something wrong or did I get a faulty unit from China? This was NEVER a problem when using the Damn Samsung charger along with the foreign adapter dongle it shipped with. I thought getting one so powerful would charge it even faster.
Maybe I should just ship it back and get an official unit from Samsung? Although I don't see how getting less energy will make the tablet charge any better

4.8 amp should do the trick. Could be a fake unit. Is it heavy? 4.8 amp is pretty much, so it should be as big as a lap top charger.
But remember , a cheap usb cable may also be the problem. Try a short one of good quality.
Edit.Just tried a 1.2 amp Nexus 5 charger on my P605. Charging good on full brightness.
Thanks

The charging circuitry and s/w on the device determine charging speed. Do a search. Someone posted the different charging amperages using the stock charge and Apple and HTC chargers and USB cables. The device detected the latter and charged at about half of the former.

Yes thats obvious and i doesnt even need to " do a search ".
The problem was it wouldnt charge at all.
Thanks

Does the p600 also not charge correctly with a non samsung charger? I remember my p1000 requiring an adapter that had a resistor between two connections to charge correctly at a laptop or different charger.

Hi everyone! My phone is having a problem. It was fine until today.
My phone charge EXTREMELY SLOW and decrease battery percentage sometimes. Then I used Battery Monitor Widget to check my phone and what I saw was terrible!!! The energy go into the phone was only <100 mA, while it was >200mA on my friend's Zenfone 4. Then I tested on a new battery, it still had that problem
And now, I'm wondering about this: Is my phone's charging port cause this problem???
I suppose that a bad port may be possible. How old are both batteries though? Even if you just got one, keep in mind many S3 batteries have been on the shelf for a long time. I've had 2 in the past that were bad even though they were brand new.

Try getting a 2amp charger. and a fast USB charger from ebay.
It is probably a bad port. I know the port on my phone is bad, i have to wiggle it to get it to start charging sometimes and sometimes I have to wiggle it to get it to charge faster. If it is the port, you can either try to solder a new one on, they are $5 on amazon, or pay someone to do it which can be very expensive. Or you could go with a wireless charging solution.
It's often not the port like many people think. I have several cables that will only charge if there is pressure on one side or you set it down with the cable being pulled a certain direction. Other cables work perfectly fine though. These micro USB cables go bad in this way all the time. So always be sure it's not the cable before trying to mess with the port itself.
