Hi
Found a weird problem with SMS sent to me by T-Mobile and First Direct
When the message arrives it is shown to have come from "John Smith" who isn't in my phones contact list, however he is in my Facebook list BUT without a phone number.
Normally it would show the company name or sometimes 150 for T-Mobile.
If someone who isn't in my contacts sends me a text it is showing the number who sent it.
Anyone else had this or know how to fix it?
Got the same bug myself. Put in a new sim card and the same thing happened again, also the same facebook contact appeared. I just deleted it
OK I deleted the Facebook contact who was showing up (they are not that close a friend anyway)
As soon as I did the SMS changed from his name to First Direct
Not sure why it happened, or what I would have done if it was a close friend, but its fixed for now
I have the same problem, just yesterday... I havent tried to resolve it though..
Problem is I do not know how to delete this facebook contact...

Login to Facebook on your pc.
Goto Friends
Find the one showing up in your SMS
Click on the remove friend link down the left hand side and confirm removal
I had the same...the facebook contact had their phone number listed as '???'.
My (ex) friends number was "Ask Me"
Still not sure how that links it to T-Mobile (150) or First Direct (no number shown)
just posted about this, sorry, missed this post.

I wondered when that might happen.... I guess the best option is to delete them, then add them as a friend again?
Although that might bring back the issue, at least its worth a try!
Let us know how you get on.
Got the same problem. Problem is this is quite a close friend so I'm not going delete her.
Hopefully this will get sorted out with a patch or an update.
Damien
Just had the same too, hope there's an update for this, it's quite annoying!
Same for me, friends number is '0800 eat my leg' haha
Rather than writing rubbish in the number fields, why not just leave it blank? Stupid people on Facebook.
Same problem here with texts from Lloyds TSB and mobile fun! As a few others, I don't want to delete the Facebook contact to fix it as it shouldn't be happening to start with. :/
Found that the person was the only Facebook contact I had linked with a stupid phone entry. I have Facebook contacts hidden in 'People' and now none of them linked with silly numbers - I'll see what happens the next time one comes.
I don't think its just limited to Facebook linked contacts as mine was linking to an imported contact from Google but who had an additional business number listed as 'x' in the second number field. deleted the field then all was sorted

I have this problem too, when T-Mobile sends me an SMS. At the moment I've only seen Facebook contacts linked to the messages, 2 different contacts so far. One of them (happened just now) actually has her proper mobile number set. In both cases these people exist as contacts purely on facebook, they are not "linked" to a phone/google contact.
I've reported the problem to HTC support, I'll post if I get a reply. Please make sure you report the problem so that HTC are aware of it.
I'm getting the same problem too with my Orange Desire

My fb friend also has "ask me" grrrr
Contacted Orange and HTC to see if they know a fix to this, if not I'll just have to delete that contact.
I contacted HTC last week... just got the following back from them:
Thank you for contacting us. The issue that you have described is known to us, and we are currently investigating this. We hope to have this resolved in a future software update, and you are advised to regularly check the update feature on your phone in order to download any ROM updates as and when they become available. HTC greatly appreciate all feedback from our customers regarding technical issues, and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Hopefully they fix it soon. The more contact they get about it, the higher priority they might give it (wishfull thinking!!) so if anyone is getting this issue please contact HTC via their support link:

Over the New Years weekend I got a text from a friend saying something like "Hope everyone has a safe New Years!". From the message it was obvious that it was sent to more than one person. I just happened to be with another friend who also received the same text. He has a Droid 3 and in his Messaging app the Send button changes to Send to All or something of that nature. Is there a way to easily tell if a message has been sent to multiple recipients without looking at the message info? I feel like this would be a huge help considering that replying to those sends a text to everyone who got the initial message. Hope that was clear.
Long press the message and put view details

Right I get that. But sometimes a message can seem like it only was sent to you, but then after you reply you find out that it indeed was not. I was hoping for an obvious way to tell, like on the Droid 3 messaging app changing the send button to say send to all.

Unless I'm mistaken, that Send to All is a Motoblur specific feature. I don't think by default that SMS messages sent to multiple recipients automatically reply to all recipients. MMS messages might, but not SMS.
I may have to test it later. I'm fairly certain the replies go only to the sender, though.

I figured that was specific to Motoblur. I like that feature though. Makes it really simple knowing if you received a mass text. I was hoping to find an app or ROM that has this feature as well.
I maybe missing a trick here, but on the contact cards my Desire there was an option to send messages (SMS) to a person's stored numbers. On my HOX, I only get the option to dial numbers. I cannot see any option to enable 'send message to number' on the HOX, has it been removed from Sense/ICS?
If you tap and hold your finger on the cellphone number you get a set of alternative actions, amongst which the possibility of sending a message (eitehr SMS or whatsupp in my case)
DOH! Thanks.
I always preach the "long press" to others and completely forgot to do it myself. Although, in my defence, it's not very obvious and I cannot find it in the manual.

To be honest, I did not find either when I read your message at first. I know that the long press should be the first option to check, but I always end up using it as a last resort
When you open the contact, there is a "message" icon on the right most side of the number...press it to compose message.

I must be going blind - I completely missed that as well - ha ha
I got a private message from a fellow xda member that was responding to a "WTB" thread of mine. I responded via the XDA app on my Mytouch4g and once i did i went back into my inbox to find that the message i had just responded to was gone. I went into the "sent" inbox and the message i had sent back to him wasnt there either! I thought maybe my phone was just acting up but i just checked on my computer and the messages arent there. It really bums me out because i was very excited about the offer the XDA member had sent and was looking forward to making the deal official.
Any help?
Hello, received your PM. We had a hard database server crash which must have happened at just about the same time you received this PM. I've recovered the tables, you may see that message come back into your inbox. If not, try to track down the member via other means.
I sent someone a PM earlier and got a response. I responded to that, but there's no evidence of my response as part of the thread in either my Inbox or Sent mailbox. That didn't seem familiar from prior experience, though it had been awhile since I'd PM'd here. So I resent with the same result. So far, no response from the recipient, so since I don't see evidence of my outgoing message, I don't know if it went where it was directed or not. Should I be seeing evidence that my message actually went out? Shouldn't I see my message in the PM area somewhere?

go to the following link (be sure your logged in to XDA first)...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/profile.php?do=editoptions
... scroll down to the last option under the "Private Messaging" category and select the option "Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default" then scroll down and select "Save Changes".
Also, when you are creating a new private message, and you scroll down, you'll see the "Additional Options" area that has some options like saving a copy of your sent messages. These are only the options for that specific message.
Unless you change the default to save Sent messages as explained above, you'll need to select to save them for each message.
I hope that I had explained this okay via text...
Good Luck!

Thanks for that. Clearly stated. I just set it so that there's a permanent save to the Send folder. I'd done Quick Reply earlier, where the save option isn't present, so it's no wonder I missed it there.
