Hello, XDA-Experts!
I encounter a problem with my desire HD and looking for any help I can get.
Since about one week my Phone is not recognized when connected to a PC.
I am using the phone since December 2010 and it works well since then. It's S-Off and Radio S-Off. In the moment, I am using CoreDroid 4.9 with Radio 26.06.04.06_M. Before I was using the ARHD ROM for some time.
The problem occurs on 3 different PC's with 3 different operating systems (Server 2003, Win 7 Ultimate 64-Bit, Win XP Pro SP3, all of them used to recognize the phone before). Windows never recognizes the phone now, android (in most cases) recognizes the connection an asks for the connection mode. The phone is ALWAYS charging over USB.
What I tried so far, after searching in different forums and via Google:
- Rebooting the phone
- Removing the phone's battery
- Booted in fastboot - no USB connection
- Tried a different USB cable
- Changed the USB ports at pc (without hub, no other USB-devices connected)
- Flashing other ROM (tried CM and MIUI, with full wipe/factory reset)
- Checked the USB-connector in the phone with an electronic microscope - all contacts look fine
I am running out of ideas, the only thing I couldn't try, is another radio, because I don't know how to flash without pc. But I don't think, the problem is related to the radio...
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Your device manager shows anything when you connect it to your pc?Debugging mode is enabled?
Device Manager shows nothing. Debugging Mode is enabled.
I went through a similar problem a while back - took ages to resolve it - in my case the problem was the usb cables I was using - I had tried a few - but its possible to get cables that only charge and dont communicate - eventually i got it fixed by using a new original cable.
Might not be this for you but it certainly helped me
No fix that I know of...
I had this problem...
I tried different computers, different SD cards, I could take the sd card out and put it in a usb holder and that would work fine, so it really wasn't the sd card. I tried different usb cables too.... nothing would work.
I spoke to my carrier (Orange) to see if they could sort out the problem, and they went through their 'script' of diagnostics and came to the conclusion that it was my computer drivers and there was nothing wrong with the phone!!!
I then rang HTC and after several phones calls later, they said that they would repair it, unfortunately that would have left me without a phone for 2 weeks, so I rang Orange again to demand that they replaced the phone! I told them that HTC had said it was a fault and they sent out a replacement Luckily I had not rooted it at this point, so it was easy for me to swap it.
The replacement phone came the next day, and like magic, worked fine when I connected it to my computer (the same one that apparently had faulty drivers!!)
So, I never found a fix for this, but managed to get a replacement! hopefully you will be able to sort something out...
Good luck
I had this problem once and it turned out to be kernel related, but I'm not sure if this would apply in your case since you've flashed a few ROMs and still have the issue. Still, might be worth trying one of Apache's Buzz kernels or LeeDrOiD's latest... if only to rule out another possibility.
does your PC recognize it if you mount the SD in recovery?
if not, it should be the cable
I had the same thing, I went crazy, and somebody told me to use another cable
and worked
Same happened to me.
Seems the phone crashed the USB controller or something on the PC.
A reboot of the PC fixed it for me (I dont see you mention that anywhere).
First of all, thanks a lot for all your replies!
As I said before, I tried 2 different cables, that both worked fine before. But after your replies I tried a third, new one - same result.
The card is recognized fine by windows when I put it in a USB-Card Adapter.
What I forgot to mention in my initial post, is, that I also formatted the card in my pc, put it back in the phone and started the phone new - same result.
I will try some other kernels now. B.t.w., has anyone a solution for flashing the radio without pc? Via terminal, or recovery? As this is one of the few things, that I couldn't try yet.
I'm 99% sure radio wont be a factor in this mate as they only deal with mobile connections, eg GSM/3G, Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS. If the problem is software and not hardware then I think it will be with the Android USB gadget driver, which is in the kernel. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
Can you mount as usb in CWM?
No, that doesn't work either.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
1) Try reinstall HTC driver on your windows and try again.
2) If it failed, backup all your files on sd card via USB-Card Adapter. Then use SD Formatter 3.0 (google it) to format the sd card. Copy the backup files back to SD card and try mount the usb again.
HELP i got the same problem
I use the phone in the last 6 months; I have S-OFF, clockworks custom recovery and rooted stock HTC 2.2 Froyo. The only change I made last week is purchasing a desktop cradle "stand". I tested the stand several times the last week and I was able to access the SD card & the HTC sync modes successfully.
Now when I connect the phone using stand or any other USB cable including the original HTC; nothing happened on the computer! The USB manager activates and brings up the USB connection type menu. However, nothing recognized by PC.
I tried all things that you can expect (another PC, another cable, factory reset, new room, with/without cradle) nothing happened, even I connected the phone on a new PC it didn’t detect the new driver!
What to do now??
Hi,
Not sure if you have already, but you can try the new HTC sync version 3.0.5557 - It's actually for the HTC flyer tablet, but i installed it and it works perfectly for the DHD.
You might have a driver issue, but the new 3.0 sync comes with new windows drivers so maybe it's worth a shot.
I've checked the HTC Flyer support page but there's no link there for the 3.0 Synch ... I could only find a direct link, here below
http://www.htc.com/www/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=1097&news_id=923
Be sure to un-install the previous HTC sync first
Its not a driver issue, I tried the new sync. Not working. Nothing is working with USB only the charger.
I have a feeling that electrostatic damaged my USB. I remembered last week I touch the phone while charging and a one electrostatic click was strong.

same problem

I'm running cyanogenmod 7 on my evo 4g and when I plug it into a computer it only charges and never prompts me if I want to connect as a disk drive. It used to but now it just stopped. I had a backup of my rom so I put it on my girlfriends evo and hers still connected to the pc like normal but mine will not give me the option to hook up through USB. My computer says unknown device. Any help would be great. I can provide more info if you need.
More info. It gives me code 43 in windows 7. I was able to hook it up in xp but when I tried doing anything it no longer was able to detect the phone. I did a factory reset and it still doesn't work. I'm at a complete loss. I feel the only thing left to do is revert completely back to stock losing root and starting from scratch.
perhaps try completely uninstalling the device from windows in Device Manager. Then plug it in again and let it re-install the drivers

I've tried that on two different computers with windows 7. My gfs fone reads fine with the exact same rom but mine wont.
It seems like the drivers on the phone are corrupted or something. At one point I found a forum that suggested to turn off bluetooth and a few other things. I decided to see if turning off my wifi would do anything and finally my phone showed the usb debugging notification and the mount as usb notification but it wouldn't mount so I restarted my phone and now it's back to doing nothing but charge the phone.
The only difference between the two phones is the rom then? Perhaps make a backup and flash a different rom or re-flash your current rom to see if that helps

I actually took a backup of my rom and put it on my gfs phone and hers worked. we had the exact same rom. I will try installing a different rom however and i'll let you know what happens.
Okay so I had a back up of sinister rom so I restored it and now it asks me if I want to connect as a usb device and so I do and my computer still says usb device not recognized or whatever.
Wow so I tried a backup of sinister rom that I had and suddenly it asked if i wanted to connect as a disk drive but windows was still saying usb device not recognized. I reverted all the way back to stock losing root privileges and it still doesn't work. It appears to me that it is a hardware problem. I don't know what else to do.
ok, so I hooked my phone up to a computer with ubuntu on it and my phone showed up but then when I went to explore the sd card it said permission denied. Then I hooked it up in windows 7 and it showed unknown device under universal serial bus controllers(as usual) but it also had it under modem, which is what I want.
Okay, got it working on this computer. After plugging the phone in several times it still said device not recognized. I have also been pushing ##data# and it was saying the same thing. I decided to shut my phone off one last time and when I hooked it up i pushed ##diag# and now it works. ****ing stupid. Glad it's working now.
UPDATE: Now all of the drivers install when I plug the phone in except the HTC DIAG doesn't appear even when i enter diag mode on the phone. this is the only driver i need installed but i can't install it because the computer isn't picking up that part of the device....This is getting irritating.
Turns out my port is ****ed up. I'm gonna have to order a new one and replace it.
The device acts as if it is being charged.
Steps I have taken so far:
-uninstalled T-mo Samsung mobile drivers and reinstalled
-deleted (uninstalled) ALL recognized USB devices via USB deview
-tried to connect without Samsung drivers installed and all USB devices uninstalled
-tried to connect with Samsung drivers installed and all USB devices uninstalled
-tried to connect without Samsung drivers and other devices installed
-tried to connect using safe mode, both with drivers installed and not
---**these are both trying with the current one provided on Samsung's site (1.5.14.0) and with the one found here on XDA from 25apr2013 (1.5.23.0)
-tried to connect using different USB ports
-tried to connect using a different USB port on a different USB controller altogether
The kicker:
Device is recognized instantly... on my laptop.
This means:
-It is not the USB cable I am using (even though I have tried 3 different cables altogether regardless, including the one that came with the phone)
-It is not the device itself
Possible: Windows issue? Last time this happened was long ago when I had gotten a MyTouch 3G Slide. I eventually just reinstalled Windows since I had been meaning to then. I don't want to do it now though because I have too many things installed on here to start a fresh install... but I suppose if nothing else works, that's what I'll have to do.
Before that though, I would love to hear any other suggestions from anyone here.
Some time the fault cud be the cable itself... I had same issue months ago my original samsung UsB cables didn't worked... It olwyz show the msg UsB not recognized... Then I tried with a different UsB cable (i had a Nokia UsB cable) and it worked...
Try it...
Cheers!!!

As stated, I have tried to use two other USB cables aside from just the one that came in the package.
Since all cables work on the laptop, but not this computer, I have pretty much singled it out to be a windows or a driver issue. :\
What are the specs of your desktop and the specs of your laptop? You claim it is a windows issue so I assume your laptop (that recognizes the phone) is not windows? Do you have Kies on the PC? If so, try to uninstall it completely and then install the individual drivers. Also, maybe just try updating Kies. You wouldn't need to install it, just download to your PC should work. As far as that goes, does Kies recognize the phone when plugged in at all? Does ODIN recognize the phone when plugged in? Maybe some of this will help you to find out if it is a driver issue or not. Good luck.

PC is i7 920, 12GB DDR3, Intel x58
Laptop is i5 2430M, 6GB DDR3, Sandy Bridge
Both are Win7 Pro, neither have Kies (I always just downloaded the drivers themselves) but I'm downloading it now to give it a try. As of now, nothing recognizes the phone on PC.
Kies method didn't work either
I did "Troubleshoot connection error", which I guess reinstalled the driver, but it still didn't work.
Getting ready to dig out that Win7 Pro CD at this point... :\

Samsung Kies isn't yet compatible with the sgh-m919. Samsung rep told me soon last night

Enabling dev options and USB debugging was the first thing I did once I turned on the phone. Tried it both with and without, still not recognized either way. Still recognized on laptop.
I've also reinstalled windows altogether, since that fixed my issue last time around, but it's no good this time still. Clean install, formatted. No good. Previous steps from first post also taken, still no good. Tried the PDAnet method as well, no good.
At this point I am wondering if it might be an x58 issue, which would really suck, but it's the only thing I can think of given all the steps I have taken.
Okay... so what's the trick on getting Windows 7 x64 to recognize this device in Download Mode?
I have enabled USB Debugging. Tried several different ports on my Maximus V Extreme motherboard. I have tried using the PDANet drivers. Nothing works.Windows will prompt me with the "Device Driver software was not successfully installed" message. Anyone know a trick?
EDIT: FIGURED IT OUT. The last Android device I owned was the Galaxy S2. Now, back then it was understood that one should avoid Kies like the plague. However, in this case, it solved my problem. It installed all necessary drivers and I was able to communicate with ODIN. Cheers.

I might have pinpointed the issue!
I tried Kies again, uninstalled, reinstalled, updated. No go. I did Kies by air and got a connection! So It's gotta be something with the USB.
Although I thought it was weird, I think it might be an x58 issue, I decided to pursue that anyways.
I found out that USB issues are common with x58 (per this forum: http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=159610 ) and will be trying a fix located here: http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=442244&mpage=1
I'll report back once I try this out. Hopefully it fixes it.
If not, I just ordered another USB 3.0 controller (completely unrelated, it doesn't need to be USB 3.0, just a different controller altogether, but USB 3.0 is backwards compatible anyways. I just needed one for blackmagic) which was PCI-e x1 (still dependent on x58, so it wouldn't have mattered, check diagram on fix link), which I WAS going to install in my PCI-e x1 slot, but that would have not worked! Going to install in a PCI-e x16 and hope for the best.
I'll reply back once I test that out too.
Confirmed x58 and S4/general USB connectivity issues

In case anyone was wondering or stumbles upon this later, I have a few updates.
I got the USB controller today and plugged it into the PCI-e x16 slot, plugged in the S4 and it worked completely fine.
I also contacted EVGA about the issue and will get an RMA, so perhaps it's just a faulty unit. However, this seems rather common (refer to previous linked threads) in x58 chips.
I imagine it has something to do with power distribution with the controller, which is why upping the ICH voltage fixes it for some people. The USB controller is powered via 4pin, not dependent on Southbridge. I guess the S4 has higher voltage(?) requirements for it to be recognized. It seems rather strange since my other devices are still recognized, but well, that's what I managed to come up with.
Cheers.

Here's my craziness.
USB connection was working yesterday. Today, it is not.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled the Samsung Windows drivers/Kies
I have even adjusted my southbridge voltage to 1.2V in my BIOS
Still, no joy.
Curiously, when I boot the phone into download/ODIN mode and connect it, ODIN recognizes the connection. Reboot back into normal mode, and no USB connection is recognized. It is not showing up in my Device Manager as an unrecognized device. It just doesn't know it is there (unless phone is in download mode).
UPDATE: Solved. I had installed this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261013). Reading back over the thread, it provided instructions for re-enabling the USB recognition of the phone. Had to re-enable the developer options and reset USB debugging. Makes sense now.
HI
I'm facing this issue today, I've tried two different laptops, both have Windows 7 x64 installed. I've tried every USB port on the two machines, I've tried with three different cables, I've downloaded and installed every USB driver there is. no use!
I'm out of options here and I can't think where to look further.
any help please?

ok so now I'm guessing it is not windows, I tried on another machine with Windows Vista and got the same error.
any thoughts, anyone?
Did a factory reset for the phone
no it works!
don't know why
I just picked up this phone a couple days ago and last night tried to get the USB to work with no luck. I've tried everything I can think of. It does work in PTP mode but not MTP mode. I was able to use odin to on it though, so I was able to root it.
I've tried both in linux and on windows xp. I've never had an issue with any phone on linux and have installed/removed drivers numerous times on XP.
Tried 3 different cables, Factory reset with and without USB installed, tried pretty much everything I could find while googling similar problems (removing old registry entries, installed media player, etc)
I have adb installed on my linux box and even with debugging enabled I can't even get adb to connect to the phone.
Definitely something strange going on. Maybe I'll switch to cm10.1 to see if that makes a difference
I cant get my computer (windows 7) to connect with the phone when the phone is on, and was hoping some one might have found a fix.
This might fix it...

Here's a link with a list of things to try what you may not have tried to fix your problems.
A small number of devices I have worked on have a weird thing, that the first time I plug the cable into the computer, it connects but won't show up on the screen. unplugging the USB cable from the machine for maybe 3 seconds, and reinserting makes the connection work... go figure! :>)
Aloha and Good Luck!

Hello,
big problem here.
My 5X just stopped showing up on my PC. It used to work fine before, but then stopped a few days ago.
I thought it might be related to the Encryption, so I just wiped everything (internal storage). But still the same problem and now I dont even have an OS installed. It's not even recognized in fastboot mode.
I ordered an USB OTG Adapter now. Hopefully I can push files with an USB stick to the phone then.
Any suggestions how I can make my Windows 10 recognizing the phone again? I also tried different Windows 10 PCs. Its not even showing up in device manager, no sound at all when I plug it in, its just charging...

I have a similar problem. My phone shows up in device manager, but I cant access the phone at all and in device manager it says no drivers are installed. Can't seem to install them again. Are you in the beta program and running 7.1.2?

Nope, I was running Resurrection Remix N 7.1.1
So I managed to push a ROM to my phone via USB OTG.

my oneplus 3 does not connect to my pc. I have tried turning on and off developer options, turn off and on oem unlocking and usb debugging. I change the usb connection to mtp from charging but does not change. Also does not recognize it when i connect to pc. Also does not pop up on status bar and i checked portable devices. I also tried installing the oneplus drivers. i am on Android 7.0 freedomos-2.5. Any way to fix this issue? i might try to update freedomos because im on a old version of it.:crying:
Windows? If, yes windows drivers are the problem.
Try to other pc, to see if it works., first.

I have tried it on both my PC and laptop with both windows 10. Does not work. My PC also has windows 7 still seems to not work. Are there any other drivers i might be missing?
i have also done some research that you should update your drivers from device manager. I dont see anything related to my device. i went to portable devices nothing and i dont have a other devices section in device manager. Any help?
What recovery?
Try to flash latest twrp. I use blu-spark by eng-stk. You can fla**** thru recovery or Flashify app.

ive also found out theres no kedcom driver when i go to fastboot. i even reinstalled adb drivers to insure its there but it does not pop up.
You'll need to remove drivers reboot, install correct drivers, reboot and then be nice to everyone you ever meet and it'll show up. It's a real pain but you can get there. XDA tutorial all the way there!
I once have kind of youre problem connecting to my laptop (win.10). But, at work, on that laptop, connection was ok (win.7).
I reinstal windows 10 and connection works fine, since.
I allways use latest TWRP & version of rom. I can't tell for sure what it's goin on with youre phone.
If i was in youre situation i format my phone (this will erase ALL in youre phone). And if PC still does not see the phone reinstall windows.
Also: Try a different cable.
A cheap cable could have a charging pin layout but lack data pins connections.
9 out of 10 issues with connecting to PC and getting odd behaviours is due to a bad/wrong cable.

What are the driver links if you have? I already installed the OnePlus drivers.

Driver issues win 10
Find the excellent tutorial here on drivers.
For some reason my phone didn't show up but was able to receive commands. It was frustrating because I wanted to use the all in one XDA product but couldn't.
Even if you installed drivers they can be broken!
Do drivers from scratch per xda tutorial. Don't forget reboot!
Try different cables and usb ports! My front ones never seem to work!
Don't just try fastboot commands also try adb. Like I said mine wasn't seen properly yet it took the commands.
Unless your windows is a years old install it shouldn't require reinstall.
Factory phone reset might help.
Best of luck!
