Got prompted for this update a few hours ago. Seems strictly related to Samsung Pay. Hopefully it fixes the broken IR Blaster bug that came with Samsung Pay
You would figure android pay would get updates through app store, and not through ota updates.

I'm guessing it's security-related on the phone layer, not just the app. I've been beta testing the samsung pay app for a couple of weeks now and it has updated itself (through the app directly, not the store) several times in that time frame.
This update is strictly for Samsung Pay. It launches in 2 days so it makes sense.
Got the update, not sure if I notice anything different

You might have a hardware issue. The IR Blaster works for me on OH1.
This version might have improved RF connectivity a little. Seems my transitioning from LTE to 3g via ehrpd is smoother than OH1.
That would suck. It stopped working with OH1 like others here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3203355 but I guess I'll use Smart Switch to make a backup and see if a factory reset fixes things.

I missed that it was Samsung Pay that breaks the IR Blaster. I don't have the Samsung Pay Beta app just the placeholder so that's why my Blaster still works.

Unikernel will root this, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s6/development/kernel-unikernel-v5-t3166295
Be aware that flashing a custom kernel is the only way of rooting currently available and it will trip Knox.

The Tar is not, as far as I know, available as yet. I just checked SAMMOBILE and it is not there. You need to take this via OTA.

I have an unknown baseband issue, and its causing my phone to reboot after one minute of being on.
I tried odin oh1 tar file, but I get a sw rev check error, which i believe means it does not let me downgrade from oi1. I need to get the oh1 tar file in order to fix my unknown baseband issue.
Do you think the sprint store would be able to do this, or they would not have the oi1 file either?

my efs folder containing imei and baseband information got corrupted. I do not have a backup.
I tried odin'ing oh1 update but phone blocked the downgrade "sw rev check fail"
So i need to odin the oi1 tar file since it contains the baseband and efs folder.

not caused by unikernel, it was caused by water damage corrupted my efs folder, didnt turn off my phone in time. all i need is oh1 tar file to fix the issue, phone turns on, tried og1 in download mode but it gives me "sw rev check fail" message on the phone, which means you can not downgrade.

WHAT DOES THE LG2 OTA UPDATE CONTAIN?
Simply put? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Well mostly nothing, I can't fully confirm that. But I can confirm two things:
1. Removes universal search from Google Quick Search (i.e. search apps, contacts, or anything besides web)
2. Limits your Wifi and 3G horribly (made my SGS3 reject my work wifi for being too weak, with 1-2 bars)
WHAT AM I PROVIDING HERE THEN?
Well, anyone who has received the notification for the OTA knows just how frustrating it is! This should get rid of that, while also updating your modem. Any other 'patching' is removed, as well as the Google Quick Search crippling.
And most importantly, this will flash through CWM no matter what you've changed or removed, so long as you're on LF9.
HOW TO USE:
1. Do not accept OTA update.
2. Download my file to your SD card.
3. Boot into CWM.
4. Flash my file.
5. Reboot phone.
6. Accept OTA update.
7. Reboot phone once OTA fails.
DOWNLOAD HERE
Custom LG2 for Custom ROMS
This is awesome!
Side question: what does this mean for future OTA's? Will subsequent "custom updates" be needed from here on out? Thanks!
Worked perfect! Thanks!
Thanks again for the update! But my paranoid just wants to confirm I get everything flashed correctly...
I accidentally clicked "Update later" when I got prompted (step 6) because I wanted to check the device info. Now I don't get prompted to install the OTA anymore even though I didn't go through the process of downloading it. Should I be seeing the old baseband (LF9) or should that also be LG2?
Thanks!

The baseband is the modem, so LG2. If it's gone, then congrats. Everything else is in place. The only reason the notification remains in the first place, is because the update didn't go through the Android updater.

Thanks for that clarification. I understand that this zip kills the update nag but does it also update the baseband to LG2 where people are having wifi and 3G issues? If so it would be nice to just have a nag killer zip? Or edit the build.prop to show LG2 so that the system thinks its updated?

You can NOT use OTA updates after rooting. Period. Even if you get your device status to normal (which requires you to factory reset after rooting and running Triangle Away). OTA updates will only work on unmodified systems.
You can, however, get the update from sammobile and flash with Odin.

Erm, not true. I am rooted and device is normal. Recently I just did an OTA update. After that still used OTA Rootkeeper to restore root.
I have been trying to find a way to get my status: Modified back to normal without wiping data(rooted, stock rom/recovery) but I have had no luck...would be nice if there is a way to do it!

That was sheer blind luck then. OTAs are incremental updates, so you could just have easily have bricked your phone doing that.

Well, I was rooted and my device shows normal. I did not wipe data, factory reset or flash a stock ROM again after rooting. In fact, my phone showed modified immediately after rooted and mysteriously changed to normal the day after without me doing anything at all. The only possibility I can think of is that I used the jig as well as triangle away. If you have a jig, you might want to try and see if it works.

I guess you can quote Chainfire as being wrong as well then, because he says pretty much the same thing. OTA's are usually incremental updates, which means they patch existing files rather than replace them. IF you've just rooted and not done ANYthing else, you can probably get away with flashing an OTA. But if you've patched anything, expect trouble.
If you use ODIN to flash the OTA, you're probably safe as it has coding to fix such problems (as far as I can discern anyway), but flashing the OTA without is just asking for it.
OTA Updates are overrated, why wait for an OTA when you can download from sammobile at your leisure.

My recovery is stock, and is say's modified. The only thing I did was root the phone, stock rom/recovery.
I have a Jig from my S2 days...how will inserting the jig reset it? Anything else need done other than insert it? Did not know the Jig would work with the N2...did not work with my S3.
With the phone off, insert the jig. It should boot into download mode. Then I reboot. That's all I did. I am not saying it will work, just that this was the only thing I did differently from others. Otherwise cannot explain why my status shows normal even though I am rooted and did not factory reset or wipe data after that.

Just curious how the update isnt breaking root. It is breaking mine, just on stock with UCAMA4 rooted fine, grabs the update and installs and *poof*, no root
OK, maybe I'm just really really stupid (probably HAHA) but every time I've tried to DL this and the thing reboots, it reboots into TWRP, and there I'm stuck - would have thought it would have tried to install itself outside of TWRP recovery, or am I really missing some point here?

+1 There are a number of folks posting they took the MH3 OTA update... what is being asked here is if one of you could kindly post the OTA update file (i.e., on dropbox, then share the dropbox link). In the past, ATT OTAs were stored in " /cache/fota" folder. There are folks here on XDA who can extract the kernel... extract the modem... etc from that OTA and repackage in flashable zips for the rest of the community to try (those who either cannot get the MH3 OTA to download/install... or for those who do not want to flash back to stock in order to take the MH3 OTA). Can someone who has updated to MH3 take a look (via your favorite file explorer) and see if they still have the MH3 update in /cache/fota folder? Thanks.
Whoa, this has got to be one of the most unorganized forums on the internet. LoL, sorry, its just soooo hard to find clear, up to date info, that I had to make a thread here.
I basically decided its time to update my phone and I want to root it, mainly to get battery savings and stop google from running all those apps in the background (who knows what info they are gathering).
Anyways, like the title states,
I'm on Tmobile, with a M919 on 4.3 with MK2, I would like to go to kitkat and root and NOT TRIP KNOX, if possible.
I'd also be interested in custom roms, if possible, like CyanogenMod... But of course, I'd like to keep my warranty, as I've already had to use it once, and I still have 2 whole months left and wifi is acting up (I get a lot of unstable wifi messages recently, didn't check my router yet but my laptop is working fine....)
Your help is appreciated.
Thx

cool thanks, I will read up on safe root, but it looks like it may work. So once I'm rooted, I can install any rom right, even the 4.4.2 with knox removed and it would be fine right? And also the NB4 modem as well, and any kernel too?
My wife is hesistant to switch with me now because of the wifi unstable issue I have. I think I may have fixed it by clearing the Wifi Direct and Wifi Direct apps cache and data. Hopefully it is only a software problem, and not a hardware problem.
oyyy, after further reading, this does root the phone, but doesn't unlock the bootloader, and without an unlocked bootloader you cannot install custom roms, but I still didn't read if I can install another modem or another kernel???
what about towelroot? Does that unlock the bootloader?

Lol. You can still download custom ROMs with a locked bootloader. If you do flash the NB4 modem you will definately trip KNOX. If you flash a non stock kernel you will trip KNOX and if you flash a custom recovery you will trip KNOX.

I finished setting up my old phone for my wife. I "Turned off" many of the apps that are installed that we never use, so her battery should do ok on 4.4.2
I just did towelroot on her phone, and it has instant root access, no reboot required or anything. Root Checker says I have root already. yay. Now I guess I need to update with modded firmware. Is there any particular order I have to install stuff?
Can I start with the rom, then modem, then kernel or is there a particular order I need to install stuff. And what should I use, odin or what?

You can flashbin any order. Some ROMs come with a kernel that they recommend but you can flash a different one if you prefer. If you DL Titanium Backup from the play store you can freeze any unwanted apps completely instead of just turning them off.

just to clarify, I did the towel root on her old phone on 4.2.2 which is my phone now.
towelroot didn't work on 4.3 nor 4.4.2
I just did a wipe on the 4.2.2 with clockworkmod setup and tried to install the fenny stock 4.4.2 rom and it came up with an error, something about expects 5 args got 4
should I use odin or something?

turn off Google now as well if she doesn't use it, saves a ton of battery! and you just flash the ROM and then the modem, kernel is in the rom.. read the guides on how to flash the NB4 modem on older bootloader, and read OP of the ROM you are flashing, there should be flashing instructions for you too, good luck!

Thanks, I searched and found out that TWRP is the way to go. I used flashify to install it and I was able to flash the new rom. Works good. I also got call recording to work, but not with wifi calls, is that something that never worked or its just a bug in my phone? I'm thinking of trying other roms to see if they got call recording with wifi calls, but that would take a lot of time.
I also did install the NB4 modem flash (twice like the instructions said) and its good, got 2 extra bars (but I doubt my signal got any better, they just want you to see more bars)

Interesting. Not sure what's different, but towelroot did work on my wife's MK2 4.3. Titanium Backup confirmed root and AdAway works so it would seem root access is there.

Completely stock TouchWiz 4.3. OTA update took it from 4.2 to 4.3. It's my wife's phone and she never had any desire for anything custom on it. The only reason I rooted it now was she asked if there was any way to block ads.

It is arriving today.
Let's discuss how do you like it.
Edit: We should receive it this week. https://twitter.com/askdes/status/573229274137681920
Edit: it was released late night on 03/04/2015 and the build number changed from OB5 to OB6 at the last minutes, possibly fixed some minor bugs(good for users).
Edit:
For those who want to upgrade from rooted kitkat to lollipop and keep knox 0x0 and root:
Prerequisites:
IMPORTANT: Phone with rooted KitKat firmware installed. This is an ABSOLUTE necessity, since Mobile Odin DOES NOT support Lollipop!
MobileOdin Pro v4.20
Latest SuperSu ZIP installer (v2.45 or higher!)
Lollipop ROM (.tar.md5 file)
Instructions: (Mobile Odin DOES NOT support Lollipop! Only run Mobile Odin Pro in Kitkat!)
Purchase and install Mobile Odin Pro
Put SuperSU zip in a folder in your SD Card (external SD recommended)
Put Lollipop ROM (TAR.MD5) in your SD Card (external SD recommended)
On Mobile Odin Pro, touch on "Open file ..." load the TAR.MD5 file and confirm
Then touch on "OTA / Update ZIP" and select the SuperSU Zip
Make sure "Enable EverRoot" box is UNCHECKED.
Check "Wipe Dalvik Cache"
Recommended but not mandatory: check "Wipe Data and Cache"
Touch Flash Firmware and wait.
Voilá, you're in Lollipop with Root and Knox 0x0!
Optional: use pc odin to odin lollipop bootloader since mobile odin pro doesn't flash bootloader.
Edit: Please take out sim card when you flash lollipop using mobile odin pro and don't want to wipe data. Otherwise wifi calling may not work correctly.
Also remember to uninstall any xposed modules if you have any before flashing lollipop.

Droid Life said it but so far, 3/4 3:05pm CST, they are the only source saying this.
We shall see. I'm sure it's getting closer!!
It's sometime today from what I read
Try kies. It usually has it before the Ota

The build number of the new build? It's the first entry: N900TUVUFOB5
Now that I look at it though, I don't think it has all the builds there.
Looks like I'll be using this instead of the janky Lollipop builds out there.
N900TUVUFOB5 Lollipop Incoming
Sammobile should have this available soon. Also check Kies, but be careful if you plan to root as we haven't tested rooting methods with it yet.
same here, im going back to stock now, just to be sure, i just odin back to nb4, right?
I'm so excited! I want to keep root though so I guess ill wait and see how everything goes first. God speed brave modders!
I'm pretty sure rooting it will be the same. Flashing TWRP with Odin. Flash Supersu.zip in TWRP... blah blah

Maybe different this time for those who want to keep Knox 0x0.
We've had the leaks and the International versions available for awhile, so it's not like we haven't seen lollipop yet....So why not wait to make a thread about it until, you know, there's actually something to discuss?
They would release it 2 days after I rooted mines, hahaha
