I've been having problems with my LG G4 ever since I got it the day it was released. The touch screen tends to be unresponsive. Sometimes the phone goes to sleep and I can't wake it up. Poweramp has a tendency to pause and play music when I plug the auxiliary cord from my car into it. Other times Poweramp just stops playing. The case used to be that LG Voice Mate would interrupt the app to get me to agree to terms and conditions. After getting rid of it the same problem started happening with the Google Now app so I had to disable that. When those two apps were gone the problem with Poweramp persisted. It continuously pauses and plays on its own and sometimes music ends up playing through the speaker of the phone itself. I've contemplated going to the local AT&T store to see if I could use the Next plan to get another phone or if it would be worth it to see if the problem with this phone can be fixed.
So basically I'm here hoping to see if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks.
Touchscreen issue should have been fixed with last updates.
The fact that when it goes to sleep you sometimes cant wake it up might be due to the proximity sensor. If you cover it with your hand accidentaly, it won't wake up.
About poweramp, did you greenified it? If it plays/pauses often might be because the jack isn't plugged well and the device recognize the movement as in/out, causing it to pause/play/play through the speaker.

I rooted my phone after one update. I'm not sure what the update was, but it didn't seem to have any effect on the touch screen. The proximity sensor was never covered when I tried to wake the screen. Poweramp is not Greenified. When I plug the auxiliary cord in I make I push it in until I hear a slight click. Sometimes unplugging it and plugging it back in causes Poweramp to start up when the app closes down.
My touchscreen works perfectly fine. screen registers multiple touches after the update, but dt2w fails about 50% of the time. It's really annoying.

Got a bit of a weird problem, all of a sudden my DHD keeps on activating the speaker phone every time i answer a call on it.
It never used to do this and i'm bamboozled by what's causing this. I've tried turning off the flip over phone to activate speaker mode and it's still doing this.
Looked through all the settings with no clue what has changed.
Tested it 6 times today using the house phone and it activates if you slide to answer or press the green answer button so it's not like i'm hitting it accidentally.
HELP!
same here..googling for an answer now :S
found something? got the same problem
My HTC Inspire started doing the same thing today. Kinda weird, as i haven't changed any setting or added / removed anything for a few days
You may have flip for speaker switched on. Go to Settings>Sound and then under Incoming Calls uncheck the option for Flip for Speaker.
Did you make your DHD wet somehow?
I pour some coke on my Desire and it started to activate the speaker for calls as default. I have started to use Sanity app from Market to force it not to use speaker.
After a few days I have removed the app and everything is fine since then. The coke has been dried out I guess.
Try Sanity.
just a question, but do u have the 'callrecorder' app?
or anything like that?
i had a similiar problem, in my case it was made by car mode.
the phone "knows" that is plugged in a car dock cause it makes a intentional short in micro usb port... one of the features of car mode is always turn on speaker.
sometimes that short happens even without car dock (that was my case).
i solve it by cleaning the port with a really tiny pin and isopropyl alcohol... you can test it by touching a pin in some contacts of the port...

maybe some moisture ?
Did you try to calibrate your G-Sensors? they might be wrong and triggering the flip to speaker phone function.
Hi I had this problem too and found it was an app called power amp I had installed on my dhd! After uninstalling it the speaker issues stopped! Hope this helps

Anyone fix this yet cos my dhd has just started this, I've turned off the car panel thing and I've cleaned all the fluff out of the USB port but it's still on speaker phone. It seems to have started after I charged it up in my van with a car charger. Any idea's cos this is doing my nut in.
Have the same problem. Rebooting the phone fixes it for me. The problem starts again every time I turn the speaker on.

I think it's not a hardware fault or software issue, the phone's screen automatically lock when you place the phone near the ear, they use proximity sensor for auto turn off the screen. When something block the sensor signals it turns the screen off. But sometimes when we call someone and if our head or ear not close enough to block those signals display won't turn off and buttons are remain active, so if our face touch the screen (loud speaker button) it turns on the loud speaker. That's what happen I guess, because it happen also for me most of the time

Hi.
I had the same problem. I found out that I had the HTC navigation app running in the background. This made the phone turn on the speaker on incoming calls.
J
do you know how to uninstall this stupid app its driving me mad, keeps starting up automatically the navigation head wrecking to say the least
During phone calls while using the phone on my ear, the screen will dim like normal and touch is not responsive... But after the call, I move the phone away from my ear, the screen will not wake-up and requires waking with power button. I can only recall a handful of times where the phone acted normally after a call...
Anyone else experiencing this? I am rooted w/ magisk and I have verified the proximity sensor is working (using Droid Info app) -
I am turning off adaptive battery not only to see if it helps with this concern, but overall performance and will update w/ changes
Had this happen as well. Not rooted. Can't remember but i vaguely recall this with other versions of android

Same. And it doesn't happen every time.
Right after I posted this, made a phone call and it blacked out again this time no power button, double tap, shake, twist, etc would wake the phone. Eventually after about 2 mins it woke up again...
Possibly unrelated, but about every 1 in 5 reboots my screen won't turn on. Stays black, no back light. The phone still responds to ADB and fastboot commands, but nothing will turn the screen on until I hold down power to restart.
Same here.its happened multiple times. naked Pixel here, not rooted. its annoying.
I've made/received 100 calls since Thursday, and it happened for the first time last night. I was able to get it out of black by accidentally doing a screenshot while trying to reboot.
Happened at least 4 times today. Just noticed an update to the Phone app was released, let's see if that makes a difference.
No screen protector, etc.
honestly after some more calls with this issue, i think my dirty ear and is causing the close proximity reading... after the most recent episode, i went to the droid info app and it was reading the sensor at 0 cm and after wiping the notch off, it started to read correctly (5.0 cm) >>> i dont really want to give the haters another reason to dog the notch but, in my case, i think its going to be an issue. i may switch the "power button to end call" on and see if that will alleviate my issue for now -

Same exact thing happened with me yesterday, could it be a RAM management issue?

Thanks for the heads up. I have unrooted and naked 3 XL. This screen off thing was affecting all calls. If the remote party hung up, I was fine. If I got into someones VM, I had to sit quietly until the call dropped.
I added myself to the Phone app Beta program and updated. After several test calls, I think it's fixed.
Ever since I bought the phone I had this issue which has not been solved with recent rom updates nor application updates. Basically while playing a voice message, either in WhatsApp or Telegram, the screen goes black (without putting the phone close to the head) and the audio switch from the speaker to the ear capsule. Even more, when this happens, the screen is stuck and I can't turn it on neither by double tapping the screen or pressing the power button. The only way to turn it back on is to put the phone "parallel to the ground", I know it's strange but that is. Other times, when this happens the audio is also distorted.
Are you experiencing the same problem?
Cheers.
Just checked. No problems. Do you have anything that covers the distance sensor?
Nothing installed on the phone (tempered glass etc.) it happens with just the MI cover installed. Also, it happens when I have the phone in my hand, if it's flat on a surface there's no problem.
Just made a research on the official forum and I found out that a lot of other users are experiencing this issue.
I'm facing the problem with distorted audio when recording whatsapp messages. But happens only sometimes, don't know how to reproduce. Proximity sensor bugs also sometimes... in my case the screen doesn't goes black, which leads to accidental touches..

I think this happens only when i get a message... i guess the sound notification from the incoming message disturb the ongoing voice WhatsApp message

None. This problem is quite common even on other Xiaomi devices (MI 9, Redmi Note 7 etc.) but not everyone is complaining about it.
I have the same problem -and always had- on a Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 running LineageOS, so I guess it depends on the firmware.
I've same issue
Solutions?
Thank you
No problem package blocking WhatsApp at all...
Ever since I've bought OnePlus 7T, the proximity sensor is giving me a lot of problems. Sometimes the screen lights up while I'm speaking on the phone and the speaker is activated. Sometimes the call gets recorded. Sometimes if the phone is in my pocket and I try to unlock it, it says too many attempts.
Yes it very annoying, when removing it from pocket accidently my fingerprint matches and something something happens.

This is the biggest reason I may be going Pixel 4...
Yes I too have this issue with my OP7T
Yup, same issue here.
Another thread about it here - https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/proximity-sensor-doesnt-work.1147600/
Also issue present on OP7Pro forums.
Seems to be related to this "Virtual Sensor":
https://www.ellipticlabs.com/2019/0...eaner-design-to-oneplus-7-series-smartphones/
So we have to wait and hope (could be this same as Never Settle? :d) that can be fixed with a software update.
It seems to get worse the more I use my phone. Anyone else notice this? Brand New it never did it

Someone on the OP7T forum suggested it may be Tap the Screen to Show (let's call it TSS) feature.
I enabled DTW. This will trigger Ambient Display -> "Tap the Screen to Show" to be disabled.
Tried and the screen still won't turn off when on a call with the phone on my ear.
Both options disabled (no DTW and no TSS), still won't turn off.
What did work though, was to turn off screen once with the power button:
- I was in a call and the screen was on,
- turned off the screen using power button,
- I took the phone off my ear -> Screen on
- put the phone back on my ear -> Screen off
Maybe someone can make more sense of it.

I tried the above also same thing. I am tired of this BS. I am constantly pressing hold or dialing with my face unless I have the phone shoved in my ear. I almost didn't buy the 7t cause of this issue coming from the 6t with the same issue

Yeah, I am starting to remember good ol' days with the OPX. Every OTA was fixing one thing and breaking 3 other.
At that time I said no OP again, but still, this one seems to be be a good phone. Time will tell.
Coming back to our issue, I am puzzled that only a few people reported this.
Are you guys are on stock kernel or something custom?
I don't think I have this issue, but the sensor seems to function a bit differently from what I'm used to. When the phone is horizontal, covering the sensor does not turn off the display. But now do the motion of raising the phone to one's ear, and the display turns off. Just an observation, yet to experiment properly.
Does anyone know where the sensors are located on this phone? Is there a picture on the internet that points out the different sensors?
Edit: Yep. This one has a virtual sensor. It works differently.

Not rooted, but using a custom dialer as the default Phone app (True Phone).
When I switched the default Phone app to Oneplus App, I could not reproduce the issue.
Testing for a few days to see if this works. Would be such a pity if the app is the problem because I really like it.
Also I just sent a log to OP support (they contacted me after I logged the issue on the feedback).
Yes, it is using the virtual sensor as you said (link in my previous post).
How does the virtual sensor work?
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I couldn't find anything concrete on how this software-based proximity sensor, Elliptic Labs INNER BEAUTY, works. The keywords are: ultrasound, sensor fusion, and machine learning. A hardware-software I guess.
The 7T does have an IR sensor under the display, but I think this is only used for DT2W and Tap to Show to prevent the display from accidentally turning on when the phone is in the pocket and so on. Not for calls.
Fully Unmodified phone - same issue here. Phone regularly turns on airplane mode while I’m on a call cause it is registering face touches. Screen regularly flickers while on calls as if rapidly moving away from my face....
This was not a problem on my 3t a while ago and the issue is driving me to switch phones alongside some software instability (random lag and keyboard jitter) (animation issues after launcher swap) (soft-lock on navbar or gestures but not a play store replacement)I usually fix by rom swapping on one plus phones andddddd twrp is dead (for now) and no ones working on a valid replacement.
Will be keeping this phone in hopes of twrp eventual return, but need that stability

Twrp is out for the 7t. It's not flashable last I checked but it is bootable and usable for what I used it for which was a backup of stock rom
This one really grinds my gears.
I use wired headphones a lot. and whenever I do and the phone is in my pants pocket, the thigh touching through the fabric of pocket turns on the screen many times. So I disable double tap to wake.
Every time I receive a call and phone is in my jeans front pocket, random buttons would be pressed. call would go on hold, or mute itself, or turn on speakerphone, or open keypad, turn on record etc.. and it is extremely frustrating. even more so when a business client calls me and I accidentally put him on hold because my phone is so stupid it does not understand not to turn on the screen touch. The proximity sensor works fine because when talking on call it will turn off the screen. just not the touch. My torch gets activated pretty often when pulling the phone out of pocket. this is so stupid infuriating.
The rest of the phone is amazing. I love the hardware. its pretty fast, runs games fine. camera is also very good. but the bloatware and the bugs are getting on my nerves.
This bug is from the day I got the phone.
Realme UI 3 update did not affect the bug but actually made it worse as the torch triggering issue has gotten worse.
I have not encountered any major bugs in the new update apart from a bluetooth volume fluctuation bug.
Am I alone having this issue?
PS: I forgot to mention that several times the quicksettings toggles are also triggered Like Data/Wifi turning off, VPN getting activated, Airplane mode turning on etc.
