Help....need recovery_3.29.161.9.img please?
hi,
As the title suggests I am looking for HTC one M8 recovery_3.29.161.9.img to return to stock recovery.....I have tried all the links but they are down. I managed to install 3.29.161.5 recovery.img but it wont let me install the OTA.
My device is 3.29.161.9 main
and the Cid is VODAP001
Any help would be appreciated!
Hey there,
Sorry but what was the error message you received when you tried OTA on 3.29.161.5 recovery?

You don't really need 3.29.161.9 recovery
After download OTA, select install later
Copy OTA zip from internal storage\Download folder to PC
Open OTA zip with 7-zip you'll see firmware.zip
Open firmware.zip you'll see recovery.img - extract this one out
Install the extracted recovery.img then proceed to install OTA
Done
EDIT : you're doing OTA to 4.19.161.2, right ?
Just use 4.19.161.2 recovery
Get it from my thread linked in my signature

Hey there,
I only found the 3.29.161.5 recovery but I think it should work on your 3.29.161.9 rom.
Here is the link:
You can try it and if it doesnt work, you can go back to twrp recovery.
Hopefully it works and good luck

Hi, yes, as I stated in my original post I have tried 3.29.161.5 also but when I tried to install the OTA update the signature verification check throws out an error and it wont install. I think the only recovery that will work for me is 3.29.161.9.
There was a link on here for it on a mega host site but it says the file has been removed so was hoping someone might be able to send me an updated link.
I have even looked for firmware files containing the recovery I need but to no avail.

it was just a general error stating that its looking for 3.29.161.9 and that the installed version was 3.29.161.5 so install aborted

I did download the OTA for lollipop and extracted the recovery but it ended up being 4.19.161.2 so it wouldnt install either, when i relocked my bootloader then and re-unlocked it, it erased my internal storage so I will have to re -download the OTA again, but I will try your method. Thanks.

You don't need to relock bootloader when doing OTA. Don't know why people keep doing this.
Read my edit above.
If the OTA won't install on 4.19.161.2 recovery then it's not recovery issue. It's the ROM issue, not stock enough.

Great, I didn't know I didn't have to relock the bootloader (learn something new everyday)!
I'll try again on 4.19.161.2 recovery and let you know(after I re-download the OTA).
Thanks for your help.

Just wanted to say a big Thank you for the help, all sorted now . I think my issue was a bad recovery.img of 4.19.161.2 as it wouldn't install first time.
Followed your instructions and I'm back on stock, un-rooted with OTA back
Just wanted to say also, I came from skydragon(used it for months) and think its an awesome Rom(only reverting back to stock to sell on) and I am hoping a version comes available for HTC one M9+ which I currently own.
please delete thread if needed!
Thanks again

This info is for those who only root their HOX Taiwan version phones without custom ROM. When trying the OTA update 2.17.709.2 (Taiwan unbranded version), I had a hard time to find the recovery of Taiwan version 1.29.709.12.
If you are in the same situation as mine, no need to relock, unroot or anything. Just follow the steps to get OTA installed:
1. Download the IMG file, place it in the same folder with fastboot files.
2. Make sure HOX is "Fastboot USB" mode.
3. In cmd: fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
4. Click "Software Update"
5. Once you have install the latest OTA, you can flash whatever recovery you want.

Hi guys.
Finally today I receive the OTA upgrade to JB. First an smal upgrade was succesfully downloaded and installed, and then the firmware to upgrade the phone to JB (I had 4.03 custom rom).
After the phone install the JB upgrade the phone stuck on the HTC ONE white screen
I had a backup on the SD that let me recover the phone, I try to install the upgrade again, with the same luck. I read a post that said that erasing the SD will resolve the issue, and I have no better idea than do it!!! (yeah... really!!)
I read several post all day on XDA, I try to flash again the boot and ROM with the upgrade that I save on my PC, and with a Backup via
fastboot. But nothing work (I dont know if I did it right). I cant see the SD on fastboot, already try a factory reset, when I go to the recovery option on fastboot the phone just rebooted with no options.
My CID is BSTAR301

Here there are many people who know a lot of this!!
Please help me to recover my phone!
u say you are on a custom rom, But you tried to update OTA?
Restore phone to complete stock ( even recovery) then you can update.
you could use an RUU or maybe a nandroid

Sorry, I mean I had the ORIGINAL ROM (4.03), the only change that I made was root the phone.
My CID is BSTAR301, I only have the backup files that I copy to my pc and the OTA upgrade that the phone download. I attach the images of the files that I have.
Could you please tell me how to restore it to complete stock with the commands? which files should I use?
Thanks for you help.

I assume that you first installed CWM or TWRP recovery to root your HOX, and if you make backup of your recovery this is CWM or TWRP recovery.img, not stock recovery.img that is came with phone because you reflashed original one with TWRP or CWM and official ROM need official recovery.img. I hope that you make nandroid backup before root with TWRP or CWM because is it "must to do" in every installation guide. If so, when you wanted to update via OTA for official JB you needed to:
1. reverse to stock software (for you, you needed only to unroot or use nandroid backup if you have yours, if not try to find one in xda one x forum matching your current CID and main-version)
2. reverse to stock recovery.img that is matching your CID (exact matching) (you need to find it on xda one x forum section) - i see that you have firmware folder but dont know is it from your backup or from OTA, if it is from OTA than you can use recovery.img from that folder to flash stock recovery.img via fastboot commands (only recovery.img)
3. then you can do official JB update via OTA
And then if you have need to custom ROM you need flash again CWM or TWRP recovery.img
Also you can get full stock with RUU but RUU must fully match your CID and main version, but RUU isn't available for every phone version, and after RUU you can do officall OTA JB update (for RUU you need to lock bootloader)
Information that can help us is yours phone current main version (fastboot getvar version-main)

Thanks for your help! I got the an RUU, after that I sent my backup to SD and now I have 4.0.4.
Now my phone show me a message to install the OTA to 4.1.1, but when I select install the phone make a reboot and show me CWM recovery with the message:
Finding update package...
E:unknown volume for path [INTERNALSDCARDownload/OTA_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_S_BSTR_ESN_3.14.515.36-2.17.515.1....

Why the phone can't mount the SD?
You need a stock recovery. Do :
Fastboot getvar version-main
And post the outcome !
Edit :
4.0.4 software....you need this recovery and then install the ota again

How do you expect the OTA will work on a deodexed ROM which in real meaning is a custom ROM ?

Thanks for enlightenment.
Maybe I should wait for the 401.5 version.
first you need to confirm what hboot version that you have now ...
the simplest is post the result of fastboot getvar all (but remove the serial no. and imei no. before you post it)
with this info, many of us here can tell you how to proceed further

Hi,
i Restored my phone to the original stock Rom from my nandroid backup then flashed the recovery back and then locked the Bootloader.
once i booted into android i downloaded the OTA for Lollipop but when the phone reboots it starts the install but then goes to recovery and comes up with Installation aborted.
HTC One M8
Orange UK
S-on
I have attached some pictures of what happens and my bootloader.
any ideas on whats happening and how to solve it?
FIX: I downloaded the Update - transferred to PC - unpacked it - opened firmware - copied the Recovery.img to the phone.
I then unlocked the bootloader and flashed the recovery via fastboot . then did the update and all worked.
No need to relock bootloader!
Cheers
That's showing that you're trying to apply the Orange OTA to the unbranded EU model. The message tells you what it expects and what you have in it's place so your backup isn't right

The Nandroid i have is the original os that was shiped with the phone after i flashed CWM i did a backup and that is what i restored.
You can't use EU recovery for Orange
After OTA downloaded, select install later.
Copy OTA zip from Internal Storage\Download folder to PC
Open OTA zip with 7-zip, open firmware.zip extract recovery.img
Use this recovery.img

The other option is to use the recovery that you should be on from the previous OTA, which you can find here:
https://mega.co.nz/#!tVsiyQKZ!21FvMXKN1nxr83u-4dF7mNcXQ1RCWqkkZLA2q_tvKhg
(You'll have to extract it from the firmware.zip in the OTA file and flash it in fastboot)

Great :good::good:
For your info and others that reading this thread ... there is no need to relock bootloader when doing OTA ... leave it unlocked when it is already unlocked.

Hi all
Really stuck at the moment
My CID is HTC_001 and I'm on version 2.41.401.3? (S-ON)
I'm trying to flash the latest oreo firmware however I can't either find the correct RUU to do it, on top of that I'm trying the flash (I think the right file?_) via SD card however I don't have one and people are mentioned using a command prompt which confused me more.
Please help ! If you can provide links to the RUU or the correct file I'm meant to flash I'd appreciate it
Edit:

The easiest way for someone who doesn't want to take the time to learn how things work would be to download this Nougat RUU
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=241133
To flash RUU:
Rename the file to 2PS6IMG.zip
Place on Ex SD CARD
boot to download mode
Press vol up to flash.
RUU will erase internal storage. Once RUU has flashed boot your phone and take the OTA to OREO. After your phone has taken the OTA flash the latest twrp then flash leedroid Oreo ROM.
The reason I suggest this way instead of flashing firmware is because your going to have to wipe data anyway and by flashing an RUU you have a clean start.

If anyone wants to know what I did to get back to stock so I could download Oreo
Downloaded Fastboot/ADB(Use this guide) https://lifehacker.com/the-easiest-way-to-install-androids-adb-and-fastboot-to-1586992378
Enabled USB debugging on the phone
Download HTC_Fastboot (Google it)
Download the Zip yldlj posted (Only if you are the same CID as me, the check this go onto the app store and find CID checker and then look on XDA for appropriate zip)
Put the download zip into the same folder as ADB/HTC_Fastboot/Fastboot folder. Rename it ota.zip
In the folder where you've extracted the ADB/Fastboot/ hold Ctrl Shift Right click open command window here
Connect your phone via USB
Set your phone onto download mode
From there I used the command htc_fastboot oem rebootRUU
Once loaded into RUU Mode use the command htc_fastboot flash zip ota.zip
Once that was complete I was back to stock Android N which then enables me to update to Oreo
BANG
Fixed

Thank you for your help!
If anyone wants to know what I did to get back to stock so I could download Oreo
Downloaded Fastboot/ADB(Use this guide) https://lifehacker.com/the-easiest-way-to-install-androids-adb-and-fastboot-to-1586992378
Enabled USB debugging on the phone
Download HTC_Fastboot (Google it)
Download the Zip yldlj posted (Only if you are the same CID as me, the check this go onto the app store and find CID checker and then look on XDA for appropriate zip)
Put the download zip into the same folder as ADB/HTC_Fastboot/Fastboot folder. Rename it ota.zip
In the folder where you've extracted the ADB/Fastboot/ hold Ctrl Shift Right click open command window here
Connect your phone via USB
Set your phone onto download mode
From there I used the command htc_fastboot oem rebootRUU
Once loaded into RUU Mode use the command htc_fastboot flash zip ota.zip
Once that was complete I was back to stock Android N which then enables me to update to Oreo
BANG
Fixed

1: you need the ruu that matches your main version OS which can be found in the download mode
2: if you are on leedroid oreo means you have a oreo firmware and in that case you can not "just" flash a nougat ruu. Check the guides section, there is a downgrade dedicated thread with all the needed information
