Note 5 .img files - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note5

I have a question about being able to modifiy .img files for the Note 5 i have tried sgs2toext4 and ext4 extracter and i still can figure out how to read any of these files. Im hoping to be able to remove the bloatware for the note 5 and reflash the system.img without those apps.
Alternatively would an update.zip that removes those apps be viable with the note5? i know we wont have root but these two methods may be able to get rid of bloatware atleast right?

or you could use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/att.../package-disabler-pro-to-freeze-apps-t3184542 most likely your method would not work as there is no way to sign the files

i was hoping to browse the image files myself... i have a T-Mo Note 5 that i'm using on AT&T. that being said, can one of you use ADB to pull the build.prop file from the AT&T Note5 and post here or PM to me? thanks.

[Q] new computer-less flash method?

If I download a ROM using my phone, then using file explorer I copy and paste the zip from my downloads to the root of my phone, wouldnt I be able to go into twrp and flash it? It doesn't make since that the files would be any different if I did it this way as opposed to using a USB cable, but maybe there's something I'm not understanding? Has anyone tried this?
Yes you don't even have to move to root just navigate there in twrp

So I didn't come up with this? Lol I was all proud of myself cause I thought I came up with something useful :/ still seems too good to be true
Lol, no you haven't really made any special discovery. I often download ROMs using my phone to my SD card and install them on my friend's phones. Your computer has literally no part in the flashing process, you're just transferring a file like any other.

[HOWTO] Root Android 4.3 on samsung galaxy nexus

This rooting technique Finally worked you will need three files
1) SDK TOOLS from
2) recovery.img from
3)MRKREHANROOT from
you should have unlock boot loaders USB drivers installed and should be on android 4.3
copy mrkrehanrehanroot3.1.zip in sdcard
be in fastboot mode ie switch off your device and hold both volume up and down and power button together and keep your device connected to PC
Extract the sdktools and place the revovery.img in that folder
then with one finger on shift key right click in an empty space in the folder and select open command window here
then type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
it will flash recovery to your device
in recovery no need wipe anything install the zip mrkrehanroot3.1.zip
and reboot
download any app that requires root access and check for example root explorer
it should ask root acess
in this way you have rooted your device
Keep the thanks rolling and follow me on

I use that method, cannot restore any app with TB or install Busybox, for some reason it's root but not completely.
This thread shouldn't be in dev section, and there were bunch of root method threads/posts that could be easily found.

Titanium Backup is an example of such an app. It may incorrectly detect the path to your internal storage for backups, and thus crash on backup/restore. You can fix this by going into preferences and selecting a folder under /storage/emulated/legacy as backup/restore path, not under /storage/emulated/0.

just wanted to drop in & introduce myself...i'm the developer of the multiwindow mod for several other tablets such as the tab plus, tab 2, 7.7, and note 8 (5-layout version). I think its possible that we could get multiwindow working on the the tab 3 but i'm going to need a dedicated tester (for both the 7" and 10" version) who knows how to manually install files & set permissions (which means u guys MIGHT need TWRP or AROMA) although the packages below SHOULD be ok to flash. Also...u will need to be rooted & deodexed as well and don't forget to indicate which device & variant u are using (7 or 10 inch...wifi or 3g model number)

I'm guessing he probably has a zip template that he uses frequently and this particular mod doesn't require anyything in the data folder. I do the same thing.

Tried installing both your files for Tab3 10.1 3G.
Both failed with error code 255. Not sure if it's a problem with my permissions or root. but Tab is rooted with bindroid and root zip. (CWM)
I will try and install manually - but haven't done it before. so i'll have to read up on it first
EDIT - Nope. tried installing normally through recovery and manually - both failed. I have all the settings set to unknown sources etc.
Let me know what you would like me to try and I will help as much as I can

You may have root, but your not on a deodexed rom... so this would fail.
Also, the recovery i made is a quick solution for us to get root.
It is not made from the source-code it is suppose to be, but givvin us root for now.
Thats why it fails on some permissions while flashing zips.... I/we are working on it...
For now there can not be tested on 10.1 gtab3 devices

exactly what happenned?
did u manually place the files in the there proper locations and remember to set permissions to "rw-r--r--" (there are a total of 10 files u would have to do this on)...if u did in fact set this correctly what were the results? Did u read the post above and remember to uncheck then recheck the multiwindow option in "settings-display" (probably the problem) if so at WORSE case u should have received a flashbar force close or some sort of other sign
Thanks, THEDEVIOUS1, for taking a stab at this!
I tried the deodexed mod on Infamous. I tried copying the files to system using Root Explorer, but it went into a bootloop before all of them could be copied. I then restored a backup of Infamous and tried flashing it. There were no multi-window options to be found under any of the display options, unfortunately.

i assumme you're using the 7 inch version which means u will NOT be able to install this manually through root explorer and will need to use the file manager provided in TWRP since the zip contains major system files which need to be replaced...flashing may not work at all so if u would like real results i would attempt the method i just suggested (proof of this is the fact that u should be able to use root explorer to copy ONLY the permissions files and that should be enough t to make the menu appear which means the zip is most likely broken...i have had this problem on my setup for a while but i havent been able to track it down)

Thanks for the quick reply.
I followed your suggestion (copying fikes using twrp file manager), but there is still no sign of multi-window in any of the display settings. I may be doing something wrong. I did change permissions using twrp file manager, but I did it before copying to the system folder. Let me know if it should be dine another way.

How to prevent OTA on stock rooted VZW HTC One

Using Root explorer (or another filesystem app with write access) go to /system/app/
search "dm"
add ".bak" to the following files (filename.apk becomes filename.apk.bak). you don't need to add the .bak to the odex files. that's just extra work
DMcommandService.apk
HtcCdmaMccProvider.apk
HtcOMADM_SettingsPlugin_VZW.apk
HtcOMADM_VZW.apk
This will make it so the apps are not functional, but you didn't (re)move them, so it can easily be undone, should you chose to. Once you do this you won't see "software update" option in the system settings and it won't be able to auto-check either. you may have to reboot to see the changes.
I've been running like this for a few days with no instability. everything is working 100%. I probably disabled more apps than necessary to prevent the OTA, but I wanted to be sure and, like I said, there's no negative results so far.
If your phone has already downloaded the OTA but hasn't installed it, you can find the file in /cache/fumo and remove it. If the notification doesn't disappear on reboot, accept the update, let it fail (since you deleted the file), and the notification to install should go away
EDIT: andybones has been kind enough to upload a flashable ZIP that will remove the OTA apks as well as the firmware file, in case your phone already downloaded, but did not yet install, the update. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46380185&postcount=13

that file is made to work while retaining S-Off. it's sideloaded, so technically not an "OTA" update. OTAs have a habit of losing people's root, and generally being a nuisance. I don't have anything against updating software. just trying to help people stay one step ahead of Verizon and HTC ruining our fun.
and yeah, it DEFINITELY didn't download to downloads. lol

Just flash this http://d-h.st/tfE and it will remove the OTA if it already was downloaded, along with the files needed to be removed.
And while I'm here it's always good to remind, as maybe someone doesn't know.
NEVER take an OTA, if you are rooted, and want to STAY rooted.
It very well could take away S-OFF.
Wait until it's confirmed or, just wait for a ROM to be made based off of it and flash the firmware and it's the exact same and you keep your S-OFF.
So, I deleted the downloaded update file and let the update process run again, and ES file explorer (actually ES download manager that was part of file explorer) was copying the update to the download folder. So, you guys were right, it was something I was doing wrong. Thanks for setting me straight!
So, I let the update download and run, then it fails out (knowing I have CWM recovery installed) and the nag goes away without updating my phone. I accidentally let it update when I was at work and didn't notice until it rebooted. I don't recommend anybody let it run and fail, but that is what happened to me.

Has anyone tried to accept the OTA after being stock rooted? I know there isn't a whole lot of changes in the update...but wondering if flashing a new recovery to accept is even necessary with such a minor update...

I've read if you have S-OFF you CAN accept the OTA.

I purchased a factory refurbished Verizon HTC One on eBay with the intention of flashing to PagePlus. Before I had it flashed I rooted it and renamed these files. I wanted to prevent the OTA updates because I did not want them to break the flash.
I found that I was unable to get the phone flashed because we could never get the DM Command Service window to appear. I eventually realized that my renaming these files (undoubtedly the first one) caused the problem.
I returned the files to their original names and was able to get the phone flashed.
I have renamed the last three files. I'll post here if this is effective in stopping the updates. Verizon is supposed to push out Android 4.4 shortly.

Great thread!
This is what I do when I flash New Roma as well, but to be more or less safe this is what I do.
I let the Rom fully boot up
Let phone get passed the hands free activation*a must*
With es file explorer or in recovery then change file names, for me I don't change the vdmclient one only till recently.
In recovery you just system go to system/app and change the names.

Tmobile build.prop

Anyone with a tmobile htc 10 mind uploading a build.prop?
Here you go. This is from a stock rooted ROM, current TMO version.

Sure thing. Here you go. Let me know if you need anything else. I can pull /system if no one's done it already and you need it. Just say the word.

Probably quickest to just upload my nandroid. I'll upload that in a few.
@jrock79 here you go. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24545065934258735
Edit: verified the md5 so I know the file's good, FYI. 3.7gb. enjoy. 7zip opens it fine.

No problem. Anything else you need, let me know.
How are you all able to get or edit the files, I'm getting a didn't pass root test on ES File even though I am rooted.

Es is not compatible with systemless root. You either need to reflash root in compatibility mode or drop Su binary into /system/bin

Easiest would be to pull the Su binary out of the superuser.zip boot into TWRP go into file manager navigate to system bin and copy the file there
