If you want to make the soft keys smaller, use GravityBox, the Lollipop version. Entering download mode is as simple as holding volume down and the power key when the phone is powered off.

Xstana is helpful for changing nav bar buttons, many smaller and interesting types of buttons. Hope that helps. Requires Xposed Framework.

[q] Warning for any rooted Tab 7!!!!!

Today I finally rooted my Tablet 7 with some help from gr8nole here on XDA. Needless to say I was very happy and started downloading any and all apps that required root I was interested in. Unfortunately about an hour into my adventure I downloaded an app called LCD Density. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP. It soft bricked my device after changing the density from 240 to 160. I am now just trying to get back to square one again and have no idea what to do. I wiped the cache partition and re flashed root. Reboot same thing again. The Samsung screen is vertical not horizontal and doing the infamous glow from blue to white and back to blue and nothing more continuously. I am in CWM now and not really sure what step to take next as I don't want to risk a hard brick. I went to Rom Manager in CWM and no files were there when I went to use the backup feature What should I do?

Thank you..Quick question. How do you get into Recovery with TWRP? I flashed it with Odin with the auto restart and with out. I used the CWM Recovery vol up power and home keys but it does not do anything. I am rooted already as well. Could that be the issue? Im using the TAR file too. I really would like to use the touch screen option instead of pushing buttons like a dinosaur

When you flash twrp or cwm in odin, you must uncheck autoreboot. Btw hold down power vol up and home button, when samsung logo appears, release the power button while still pessing down vol up and home

Why didnt you just change the density back? Open build.prop, or push a stock version of it via adb or (idk if it is possible) via fastboot.
Then yoir problem should be solved. Those tweaks have got nothing to do with cache, or data, or so
Thats also why you need root and also the reason, why it is not so easy, to root some devices
But try brain.exe and everything should work, as it should

So you can't boot into the OS at all anymore? Cause if you can at least get into the OS you can use adb to terminate the the crashed app if it still rooted. And are you certain you can no longer get to recovery? I've already made the mistake of not having the volume up button fully depressed.

After flashing stock firmware I lost root.
I can log into android OS, But because of the annoying popular I have no chance to change nothing.
As for adb you mentioned , it is something I need to learn. From the little I know, It won't help me without root.

I manged somehow to install stock firmware again.
Root: CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505
CWM: i9505-cwm-recovery-6.0.3.2(0611): http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2034220&d=1370946022
But again I can only boot from my OS (e.g. Quick Reboot), but not by Volume UP.
This is big problem for if, because after each mistake in try to update ROM (I'm trying to update to 4.4.2 CM 11), in order wipe I need to re-install the stock firmware.
Thx

It's actually never been home and volume up for the s4. I too was fooled by this. I guess since the s3 behaved this way someone tried it on the s4 and it worked... but I never ever needed home button pressed to boot to recovery with volume up glad everything is sorted out for ya!

Update to 4.4.2 Kit Kat: Yes or No?

The KK update is available for my 8.3 now (USA). I've never used KK on any device, so I'm not certain on what it brings to the table for a device like this.
I'm assuming updating will kill my root. If so, is there a method for keeping it or re-rooting?
It seems like there are issues with the update. Is it the recommendation of those who have updated to stick with 4.2.2 JB?
IOroot25 works!

I think that IOroot25 methon works with all g series with 4.4.2 fine. i tried it!
xda thread for download, LINK: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2703825
Updating with root in place may not work and may cause problems. The IORoot method will let you root the 4.4 release based upon what I have read. The safest approach would be to either go all custom (install custom recovery, update to a 4.4.2 custom stock rom), or revert back to stock and then upgrade before rooting and then root once you have updated to 4.4 using the IORoot method.
You can try it on your mobile.
I'm having KK and it's work very well.

I can vouch for this. Don't try updating with root. It put me in a TWRP boot loop. Fortunately, the LG Mobile Tool rescued it. Long process that would have been better spent unrooting and re-rooting after update.
I think I'll just stick with 4.2.2 for now, to avoid issues with Flash.

It's important to me because I switch apps a lot, and long press actions are just no substitute for a proper recents key.
In stock 4.4.2 the G2 exposed module does no longer provide a recents key, nor does any of the other modules.
And since I also want to keep qremote the other kitkat roms are not an option. In fact, for those reasons I downgraded back to stock 4.2.2
If I would have to choose between having qremote and a recents key, I'd probably sacrifice qremote.

You are wrong. I have stock KK, I have G2 Xposed installed and I have a recents button.
That is very strange, because I'm not the only one reporting that it doesn't work under kitkat anymore.
Definitely doesn't work here.

Are you sure you installed it properly? You see, when I gave the advice, it was after installing and testing it. So it was not a suggestion to attempt, but to solve. Here is exactly what I did:
1) Download G2 Xposed (I have the paid full version, and do not know if the Navigation Bar options are limited to it). A new version was released a day or two ago BTW.
2) Installed and opened it. It now asks to download and install the Xposed Framework. I did so and it downloads latest.apk (also a new version).
3) I install it and it asks to reboot. I do so immediately. I do not activate the G2 Xposed yet.
4) After rebooting, I open G2 Xposed and it now asks me to activate the mod. I click the button, and activate the mod. It now asks me to reboot again. I first turn on the Navigation Bar options, and change the number of buttons to four, but do not set the buttons as I cannot yet. Now I reboot.
5) After rebooting I enter G2 Xposed and enter the Navigation Bar options. I set the buttons and bingo.

Problems with CyanogenMod 11 - Unofficial

Hi everybody,
I have a BIG problem, with CyanogenMod 11 - Unofficial. I installed the 05/13 update and at the beginning I only had problems with the volume bar and the reboot panel: it shows kinda grayish overlay and the only way to make it disappear was to press the backward button. So, I tried to flash back the Stock Rom, but something has gone wrong... I still have CyanogenMod 11 - Unofficial, and the gray overlay is everywhere, anytime (I managed a way but limits phone usability). Moreover, key combinations involving the power button do not work, and I'm not able to do anything like Recovery boot or Deep Reset...
I need your help!
Thanks in advance

That's a bug from the old version, so press all buttons until the phone reboots and hold them until the you see the Huawei logo. Than it should boot TWRP and from there you should restore a backup or flash a new ROM.

Remove your battery and put it back. Now don't turn on phone. Press volume up button and hold it. While holding volume up button connect your phone to the pc and look if download mode stars.

did exactly what u said ,screen wasnt on but got an vibration....thats it ,no download mode logo or screen on
Did you try to enter recovery? Pull out battery pull in again and press volume down and power button. If LG logo appears or you got vibration release buttons and press again same buttons. I hope this works or you need to send your phone to warranty

Is it TWRP? Do you have any ROM in it? If you have any ROM you can flash it.

Hello
downlaod mode works but you don't get any image
just flash a tot file (use newer dll file) <- it WILL work. Look up "downgrade from v35b" in verizon forums on xda

I'm glad that you got your phone back. My succession is that don't use Marshmallow Autorec. It's buggy I guess. Just root and install recovery on Kitkat with Kitkat Autorec and then flash Marshmallow ROM in development section.

Hmm yeah you are right. Sorry about that. People talk about Marshmallow Autorec nowadays and I thought he talks about it. I believe he broke his phone while trying to flash Marshmallow port ROM. Thanks for letting me know.

I believe he flashed autorec for 5.0.x on 5.1.1

@bender_007 please help me bro is what you said true.... If I hold volume up and connect charger will it still intiate download mode even though my screen is black. I'm in same exact situation as original poster. I used a vs985 lollipop autorec not knowing it wasn't for my 5.1.1 35b phone even though it's lollipop HELP IS APPRECIATED
