The KK update is available for my 8.3 now (USA). I've never used KK on any device, so I'm not certain on what it brings to the table for a device like this.
I'm assuming updating will kill my root. If so, is there a method for keeping it or re-rooting?
It seems like there are issues with the update. Is it the recommendation of those who have updated to stick with 4.2.2 JB?

I think that IOroot25 methon works with all g series with 4.4.2 fine. i tried it!

Updating with root in place may not work and may cause problems. The IORoot method will let you root the 4.4 release based upon what I have read. The safest approach would be to either go all custom (install custom recovery, update to a 4.4.2 custom stock rom), or revert back to stock and then upgrade before rooting and then root once you have updated to 4.4 using the IORoot method.
You can try it on your mobile.
I'm having KK and it's work very well.

I can vouch for this. Don't try updating with root. It put me in a TWRP boot loop. Fortunately, the LG Mobile Tool rescued it. Long process that would have been better spent unrooting and re-rooting after update.
I think I'll just stick with 4.2.2 for now, to avoid issues with Flash.

I think you should update to kit Kat update. It brings many new features, Plus you get new LG on screen keyboard themes, and the transparent when using other third-party launchers. And security fixes. So why staying on old jelly bean?

Anybody with root and stock recovery try the update? I want to take the update and then re-root if possible.

It's important to me because I switch apps a lot, and long press actions are just no substitute for a proper recents key.
In stock 4.4.2 the G2 exposed module does no longer provide a recents key, nor does any of the other modules.
And since I also want to keep qremote the other kitkat roms are not an option. In fact, for those reasons I downgraded back to stock 4.2.2
If I would have to choose between having qremote and a recents key, I'd probably sacrifice qremote.

You are wrong. I have stock KK, I have G2 Xposed installed and I have a recents button.
That is very strange, because I'm not the only one reporting that it doesn't work under kitkat anymore.

Are you sure you installed it properly? You see, when I gave the advice, it was after installing and testing it. So it was not a suggestion to attempt, but to solve. Here is exactly what I did:
1) Download G2 Xposed (I have the paid full version, and do not know if the Navigation Bar options are limited to it). A new version was released a day or two ago BTW.
2) Installed and opened it. It now asks to download and install the Xposed Framework. I did so and it downloads latest.apk (also a new version).
3) I install it and it asks to reboot. I do so immediately. I do not activate the G2 Xposed yet.
4) After rebooting, I open G2 Xposed and it now asks me to activate the mod. I click the button, and activate the mod. It now asks me to reboot again. I first turn on the Navigation Bar options, and change the number of buttons to four, but do not set the buttons as I cannot yet. Now I reboot.
5) After rebooting I enter G2 Xposed and enter the Navigation Bar options. I set the buttons and bingo.

Hello, I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S3 on Android 4.1.2. When I'm in my notifications screen, I can 'expand' my notifications by swiping down with two fingers on the notification. For example, if I received an email, I can see the full mail instead of just the sender in the notification screen.
And now back to the One X:
My friend, owning a HTC One X Android 4.0.3 and not able to upgrade his android, wants to have this too, since then he can view all incoming whatsapp messages without opening whatsapp.
Is there an app to do that? I've been google'ing for 3 hours and still don't have any result :/
Thanks

He can't update, because after the (OTA) update is downloaded on his phone, it starts installing. But then the installing progress is being aborted suddenly and the phone just reboots.. So we just gave up trying to update and wanted to see if there is another way to get that.

Theres your problem mate, an OTA will not work, if you're device isn't fully stock.
It checks your device before updating, the reason it'll reboot and the update won't complete, is because the update is trying to use things that aren't their (Stock recovery etc)
Your best bet, is to find an RUU and run it, so your all stock.
Then OTA until Fully Updated, then do whatever you wish

Also I thought there was a security concern with the kingo root method, something about it being from China and contains malwares that sends files back to its home server, supposedly these files are the ones necessary to clone the device.

That's not true. It means no kernels... There's things like safestrap that allow you to flash a ROM to a different partition, and select either stock, or (ROM name here) from initial boot-up.
The ROM is just the body of the car, (what we see), but to access the motor, (everything that makes what we see actually happen), that requires bootloader unlock ?.

Without custom recovery we may not get Xposed, hence no gravity box, but we can hope they get a non-recovery version working on the G4.
If you are rooted and run Xposed you NEED to freeze the OTA update checker, otherwise prepare for a bricked device after an update.

Why would we need a custom recovery for Xposed? I only rooted my G3, nothing else, and I'm using G3 TweaksBox just fine.

We need a bootloader unlock or a workaround like bump on the G3, I haven't heard of any progress with this yet but I'd love to be proven wrong.
I think the main theme here is be patient. We could not have ANYONE working on anything for this phone. Root is awesome. Hopefully bootloader unlock is released soon.
I think the same patients. We just got root im sure they have been working toward a work around since the phone has been released. So eventually if its possible someone will find an exploit i just hope eventually they find something that works for all current versions.

I was rooted I use this post, and the is a link in that thread to the actual zip your will need, and also you must have the updated TWRP as well. All the information is in that thread. but that is literally it.
Download update zip
Download Flashfire
download new TWRP
Back up you crap ( will not wipe SD card unless you tell it to )
Run FlashFire, set setting correctly
run it, you will already be rooted when done
set dev mode
re-flash new TWRP
PROFIT

Yes and everything is ok. Follow the steps carm01 suggests some post above. Its easy and at least for me everything worked. After fisrt boot you can go to TWRP and flash everything else you need.
