Expand notifications? - HTC One X

Hello, I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S3 on Android 4.1.2. When I'm in my notifications screen, I can 'expand' my notifications by swiping down with two fingers on the notification. For example, if I received an email, I can see the full mail instead of just the sender in the notification screen.
And now back to the One X:
My friend, owning a HTC One X Android 4.0.3 and not able to upgrade his android, wants to have this too, since then he can view all incoming whatsapp messages without opening whatsapp.
Is there an app to do that? I've been google'ing for 3 hours and still don't have any result :/
Thanks

Expandable Notifications wasn't there when I was using Stock 4.1 (JB)... Only when I installed a custom 4.2.2 ROM, I could use it...
I don't think there's an app available to enable that feature... AFAIK!

The easiest solution would be upgrading to 4.1.1
Expandable notification works on stock 4.1.1

There's this app which has advanced notifications. Not quite expandable, but similar. Haven't tried it myself though...

Explain why he can't update,we may be able to get him updated and kill 2 birds with 1 stone (not that I'd ever kill a bird)

He can't update, because after the (OTA) update is downloaded on his phone, it starts installing. But then the installing progress is being aborted suddenly and the phone just reboots.. So we just gave up trying to update and wanted to see if there is another way to get that.

That sounds as though something is stopping the update, was he rooted? Any custom ROM/Recovery etc? EVERYTHING needs to be pure stock for it to update correctly.

Theres your problem mate, an OTA will not work, if you're device isn't fully stock.
It checks your device before updating, the reason it'll reboot and the update won't complete, is because the update is trying to use things that aren't their (Stock recovery etc)
Your best bet, is to find an RUU and run it, so your all stock.
Then OTA until Fully Updated, then do whatever you wish

Good luck mate,
If RUU fails, find a NAND backup from :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140
Then do the update procedure.
Stock recovery can be found here:

[ROM] 1 Dec ITL41F [GSM] - Stock ROM image for ClockworkMod

Here is the completely stock ROM image for the GSM Galaxy Nexus, version ITL41F. It is not rooted, if you wish to root after installing use my Superboot. System and boot images are included, recovery and baseband are not. The baseband version for ITL41F is the same (XXKK1) as ITL41D, which is posted in this topic if required.
I know this will be useful to anyone wishing to revert their phone to get a future OTA, to chefs wanting to base a ROM on it etc. etc., so here it is.
To install, flash this update zip via ClockworkMod.
Enjoy!

It's official Samsung firmware.
Thanks for the ROM - this will be useful for many I'm sure
Can I just ask - is there a reason the recovery image isn't included? It seems from recent threads that this is often requested in order to flash completely back to stock, but no-one seems to have one available. I was just wondering if it there was a specific reason why people haven't been posting it?
Cheers
Think I'll have a play about with this in my kitchen - get some practice in for when I get my GN

Bit of an issue, the dsixda kitchen won't deodex the ROM. Any suggestions?

Yes apologies - I reedited my post when I saw that also.
Sorry for cross posting on this thread. Hopefully they will release the new updated version soon.
Although it probably worth a look as it has an autoscript to restore your phone to stock by flashing multiple files.
If your phone is rooted and have CWM, Superuser and Adfree installed and you flash this what exactly happens?
Does it uninstall CWM? if not how do you access it?

is it just me but does cw recovery prevent you from installing ota updates?
I keep getting the alert from Google to update but get the sad hospitalised Droid when trying to install.
If I flash the stock rom but still have cw recovery and root the phone, will the ota updates work?

As far as i know this not touching your recovery. You must lock the bootloader in order to have stock recovery. You must root it again and install rom manager to access it through UI enviroment.I dont know for sure how you can access it with button combination (i think middle volume and power button)

OTA update ClockworkMod

K here we go,
I've got an HTC One V. ( not the best choice ever I know but it will do for now). Thing is that it has been rooted and I now have a clockworkmod Recovery version 5.8.3.1. Today I got a message saying that there was a system update for my Phone. 2.22.401.1 of 34.55 MB. When I try to install it, it boots into ClockworkMod Recovery. I think I know where the OTA should be: /cache or /partition/cache But I can't find either of them in recovery nor just with filemanager. What am I doing wrong or what should I do?
tnx in advance Maverick ®

Firstly will like to say hi to everyone here since this is my first post and a new user to android!
I have read several threads and all mentioned to have stock recovery to do the update. Doesn't work for me. This is my scenario:
I have a rooted stock rom with CWM. I have flashed the stock recovery and also downloaded root keeper to able to restore my root after performing the OTA. After flashing the stock and backing up of root, I proceeded on to download the OTA update and install it. When the phone starts to reboot, indeed it boot up into the stock recovery for the update. However it just stops around 25% showing a notification icon instead.
I am a developer and an occasional hacker.. I am pretty new to android mods. Greatly appreciate if anyone could shed some light on how I can troubleshoot this issue.. Any logs? any debugging level I can look at to see what went wrong at 25%?
and by the way, i am holding on to a HTC One X
Thanks in advanced!
It stop at 25% or at any time because it cannot find a file it needs to patch.
Only a clean stock ROM should be able to complete an OTA update.

[Q] Will I get official OTA update if I unlock the bootloader ?

Hi everyone .
I'm new to xda.
I have 1 question..
Will I get the official OTA updates from htc if I unlock the bootloader ?
Yes ! As long as you don't remove system apps (edit the stock rom) !
You can update with these criteria
Stock rom (with or without root)
Stock kernel
Stock recovery
Unlocked bootloader

Yes rooting is fine, what you need to do before installing an OTA update is re-lock your bootloader. This is because the OTA update will try to install through CWM or whatever other recovery you have flashed.

By entering the bootloader and then to recovery, if you see a sign with triangle and a phone icon you have stock. If it enters directly you can see its custom.
Not by checking the software on the phone. If its a custom rom it can be anything !

If it works the same way as the previous OTA, you just flash supersu.zip in recovery after taking the update and you have root again. I haven't personally tried it yet so hopefully someone else can chime in to confirm that's how it would work.
EDIT: just tried this and that's exactly how it works. If you're s-off and take the OTA, just flash a custom recovery afterwards, then flash superuser.zip and you'll have root access.

Or just flash a ROM based on the new OTA, once us DEVs get the ROMs updated.
unless you want to stay on stock with root.
then you are perfect.
-----------
it is confirmed though that if you have S-OFF you can take the OTA and keep S-OFF?
Wonder why the delay on the OTA then.
also wonder why they'd give us this useless update, sure Android 4.3 is great and all, but we are running HTC Sense UI...
Why the hell didn't HTC update THEIR Sense UI!?
Sense 5.0 sucks compared to 5.5
HTC actually finally listened to the users on Sense 5.5 and added in great features including blinkfeed on/off toggle, No Do Not Disturb Mode (really the ONLY thing I wanted outta this update)
and no option to re-order the quick setting tiles on stock.
Lyapota did a great job giving us the re-order MOD, but it's just upsetting to me after the wait, really the only new feature I've found is the opportunity to separate ringtone and notification volumes.

I just did this myself. When I got my One a couple of weeks ago I went from stock out of the box to unlocked, S-OFF, and rooted with rumrunner. I just restored the stock recovery through adb, reinstalled the few bloatware apps I'd uninstalled with Titanium, and let the OTA run. After that I reflashed my custom recovery, and with that I then flashed supersu.zip. I'm now updated through the OTA and still unlocked, S-OFF, and rooted.
