Is there a way to get rid of this quick start app?
Cheers
Charlie.
On an unrooted device (I assume your device is not modified at all):
- Go to "settings" and look for "Applications'' / "manage applications", select "all", to see every app installed...
- Disable the "Quick Start" app
What does the Fire Quick Start App do?
Does anyone know if there is a run down of all the pre-installed Fire Apps, what they do, and if they're safe to disable?

Quick Start (com.amazon.quickstart.apk) - The tutorial that can be watched at first setup and everytime you re-install the OS, can launch the "try Amazon prime" app and the "Amazon retail demo".

It's not perfect... but take a look at it: Fire OS App List / Debloat / Factory Images
A few people said it "almost broke their phone", while I had zero problems, go figure...

I have a first generation kindle fire that I have not ever rooted. I side-loaded a bunch of launchers onto it in order to see what would work. I accidentally set the Xperia Home launcher as default before confirming that it worked and now I'm stuck in a permanent loop with an error message that says:
"The application Xperia Home (process com.sonyericsson.home) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." When I tap Force Close, it continues to come back up.
I saw a similar thread where someone ran into this problem, but on a rooted device. My device is basically stock. Is there anyone that can help me? Thanks in advance.
Race it to factory reset and reset it. I know it seems like you can`t do it but many succeed.

Thank you for the suggestion. Not to sound dumb, but how would I go about doing that? (Sorry, I'm kind of a noob)

It worked, and I didn't have to factory reset. I got lucky. I quick tapped the notification bar and because Android App Manager was running, I was able to keep at it and open it to uninstall the Launcher which resolved the issue.

Worked perfectly, and now StickMount is working too. Just played a video off USB in XBMC.
Does anyone know a way to remove the su app from showing in the leanback launcher. Can't find it in the settings anywhere.
Pardon my ignorance, but what does this do exactly? ...aside from the obvious "gives you root"...I mean how, what does it do to the system?

Well be in next version, if you set icon to invisible, it will also disappear from leanback launcher.

Do you just download to phone or PC and put the extraction on the Nexus Player to gain root?

Are you referring to the launcher settings or SuperSU settings there should be an option in SuperSU settings to set the SuperSU icon to invisible.
I just happened to check my system today and had the OTA update from LRX21M to LRX21V waiting. I tried installing it but Recovery stopped halfway through the install with an Error. I got back into Android with a power-cycle, so things are fine, but it's still on 21M.
I'm guessing this was due to having rooted the device. Is there a proper way to remove SuperSU to allow for a system update? I see there are 3 different options for cleaning up; does it particularly matter which one I choose? I could just pick one and try it but I'm kind of curious what the differences are between the options. Anybody know?
Update: I tried the second and third cleanup options (new superuser app and full unroot) and neither got me into a state where the OTA was successful. So I just downloaded the factory image and flashed the system.img from it, then reapplied the original root process.

probably a full unroot and flashing the stock boot.img would fully unroot, I wonder when LRX22C (5.0.1) will hit the nexus player
The root is fundamental in all devices for many things, and thanks to Chainfire and others independent developers we can consider Android a semi-open platform. (semi-open because not all is open source)
We don't want Android like the Apple walled garden, but we are not even against the sale of the software, we just want a common garden in which the user can choose and is not obliged.
For example with the root, it was easier to start this project:
Nexus Player with a Full Version of Android Lollipop https://plus.google.com/103019026671039069038/posts/V5XaLxK3vN8
This is just the base rom with all hardware components working, on this base that is very usable, i want add many other options. like external usb webcam and mic, improving the audio part that have fixed volume and many other things useful for the use in TV.
Nexus Player is not just Android TV, but is the first Nexus device with an intel cpu. Is a milestone in the evolution of Android.
This is just the start and I am very open to sharing and collaboration on this project.
Thanks Chainfire for the root and for your "How-To SU" guidelines.
Out of interest will rooting prevent OTA updates from installing in the future?

I did this, despite the warning it gave me. Now although I still get permission dialogs etc, I can not run the main program to delete apps etc from SU access. Is there anyway to go back to the main screen? I went to the apps sections of the NP and unlike other apps it didnt have an open command.
To get it back do I need to uninstall and then re-CFroot?
Thanks. I should pay better attention to dialog boxes but its not a huge deal.
Does the enable Amazon updates toggle check mark in the settings of this app fully disable updates if I uncheck it. I recently did this instead of typing the adb command and it seems to be staying off but is this permanent?

Yes, it's permanent. If you like, you can confirm this from the shell with the command pm list packages -d
Thanks that's what I thought. It just hit me after I gave a couple to friends that it might not be the case wanted to make sure it wouldn't unroot once it leaves my anti Amazon wifi.

If you want extra protection install rbox's ATV compile of Clockwork Mod Recovery. Then you're pretty much iron-clad.
I have that on there but does this mean that the fire TV cannot update itself period?

My understanding is yes. All updates must be done via CWM since stock recovery is no longer present.

What app is sending you these notifications? File Manager? App Manager?
Hold down on the notification until you see a bell and an i. Hit the i to get information.
There should be a box that says notifications on the app info... Uncheck that. Reboot the phone and see if it appears again (It shouldn't).

If you're on Lollipop:
Hold down on the notification and get the info. Make sure it's unchecked (Could be a different app sending that one).
If it's already unchecked:
Go to your settings and find "Notification Manager". Enter this and hit "App notifications". Find the app that sent the above notification and tap on it. Now you can adjust it and set priorities and whatnot. For this, block notifications from it.
This may block notifications for system updates as well, but you can still check it manually. Plus, system updates don't happen very often so not seeing it won't really matter.
EDIT: Misunderstood what you meant... I underlined what to do in your case.
Edit 2: I'm running a custom ROM and that's how I would do it in my case. I failed to remember that the stock ROM may not have added these features, so you can also do this (for sure) but going to your settings and hitting apps, then scrolling over to all. Find the app manager (or whatever app uses the same icon as the one sending you the notifications) and click on it. Now you can uncheck the displaying of notifications from it.

Read that^^^
Also, unchecking notifications from "Google Service Framework" may remove notifications for these type of updates.
If you are rooted and already have SuperSU you can download Titanium backup and uninstall any app from your phone. BE CAREFUL BECAUSE SOME APPS ARE IMPORTANT. Also, make sure you backup the file before removing it via titanium (backup through titanium backup) in case you for some reason need it back. This may or may not remove the prompt to update the app, but way back when (if I remember correctly) it did for me.

Glad to hear it! If you ever have any more questions feel free to PM me.
Also, I would highly recommend you try out a free app called "LG Tweaks Box". It'll make your phone feel so much better and have tons of customization!
I'm not sure if this even/still applies but when I was on KitKat (LG G3 2GB) I rooted my device then used either Root Explorer or ES File Explorer File Manager and looked in the data\op folder on device and deleted anything I didn't want (mainly anything carrier related which was all of the H3G_COM folder (30 items) as it was a 3 UK handset) then reflashed firmware and wiped device and I have never had any apps forced on me since, i've even disabled auto restore of apps from Google Play on first sign in so I can be choose what I wanted installed at each reflash/wipe.
Back up the OP folder first as It is handy for later if ever needed
Again not sure if this even/still applies
Hope that helps
Thanks for the reply
But sorry to say that my Data/Op folder has no Carrier APPs
i have done a full search on phone an just cant find the junk
i still have a message saying i have 15 APPs to update even with APP update frozen with RootUninstaller

Try installing them then using titanium backup to remove them completely including all files.
Sent from XDA app via my LG G3 D851.
Edge takes up too much space. "Clear browsing data" does nothing and I cannot uninstall it so every time there is an update I have to uninstall every app on the phone to be able to install the update. Only solution is to do a reset of a phone, I did it once and now it seems like I'll have to do it again if I don't find workaround.
It seems like "Clear browsing data" is not doing the proper job and it can't delete some cached data or something like that. Is there way to delete those files manually somehow ?

You can uninstall oem apps with interop, there's another way to do it "manually", you have to enter your phone with full system access and delete the app, there are a few guides in this forum on how to do that. What build of w10 are you in? if you are in RS2 there's a new option for that, you can reset the app and clear the data with the reset button.
