CID HTC__622 KK to LP issue - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

a friend of mine got his M8 CID622 and used with KK revolution rom
the problem started when he tried to update to LP
gave it to me so i can fix it
right now:
bootloader = OK "tampered unlocked"
recovery = stuck when i try to access (was twrp 2.7.0.0)
boot = stuck
Code:
version-bootloader: 3.16.0.0000
version-baseband: 1.16.21331831.A11G
version-main: 1.54.708.5
version-misc: PVT SHIP S-ON
product: m8_ul
modelid: 0P6B63000
cidnum: HTC__622
commitno-bootloader: ab0efa49
how to fix it and go to LP rom?

Try with TWRP 2.8.1.0
Restore a TWRP backup ... don't see anywhere 1.54.708.5 backup but you can use 1.60.708.2 backup
Flash 1.60.708.2 stock recovery and do multiple OTA up to latest lollipop
You can read how-to in my thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Or here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376

[Q] How do i get the latest OTA update on my HTC One M8

Hey, im trying to install the latest OTA update on my htc one m8 (software update: 4.20.710.5)
right now i have stock htc sense 6 - android 4.4.4, with the latest twrp recovery install along with s=on.
Information for my device:
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 3.19.0.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 1.22.21331147A1.29G
(bootloader) version-main:
(bootloader) version-misc: PVT SHIP S-ON
(bootloader) product: m8_ul
(bootloader) modelid: 0P6B11000
(bootloader) cidnum: VODAP021
software number: 3.32.710.9
so far i have downloaded the ota update within stock sense, however as soon as i go to update it, it takes me straight to the twrp recovery. making it unable to install the update. and i know that i must revert to the stock recovery to do so.
To fully revert my HTC m8 i have 2 options
1. find a RUU compatible with my device.
2. find a stock recovery image.
So far i have had no luck with finding a working RUU, and the closest i have gotten was flashing a ruu.zip that matched my software number and kernal with the hasoon 2000 v2 toolkit, however i received: signature verify failed
is anyone able to find me a RUU that is compatible with my device and tell me the steps to running/installing this RUU, or are you able to find me a stock recovery image that is compatible with my device.
p.s. if i am to install the wrong stock recovery is there anyway to fix it? as i do not want to run into a brick.
(extra information: I am living in New Zealand, Using Vodafone as my carrier)
Thanks.
Tom.

Thanks you for you quick response, I am pretty sure I understand but just to clarify a little. Am I meant to restore to that 1.12.710.17 VIA TWRP restore.
Also even though this stock recovery should be correct, would flashing the wrong stock recovery lead to problems ?
Thanks.

Use Philz touch recovery to restore the backup and the flash the stock recovery.
Those files won't work for your device that has a higher version hboot 3.19.0000 and S-On.
You'll get stuck when applying OTA.
You said that you have stock ROM running. What you need is stock recovery image.
Get your stock recovery image 3.32.710.9 here :

Ok Thanks. But are you able to provide me with the direct link to the download I need as I am abit confused by that post.
Also to answer my other question. What is to happen if you install the wrong stock recovery or something goes wrong in the installation process of the stock recovery?
Thanks.
Tom.
Click on the numbers, for your case click on 3.32.710.9 then you get the link.
If you install a wrong stock recovery, your OTA installation will fail. That's all.
If your installation fails due to ROM not stock enough, make a request for the stock backup in that thread then I'll update with link to download stock ROM backup.

Hi Tom Hyde,
I am glad to see you solved a problem I am experiencing...
I want to update from 4.4.4 to lollipop, I need the VODAP021, 3.32.710.9 stock recovery
Can you please tell me how your extracted the stock recovery from that link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-...-twrp-t3086860)? I downloaded the whole file (1.4GB) as a zip file, but once open I cant find the stock recovery.img file that I need. How did you do it?

The 1.4GB is nandroid backup not stock recovery.
Stock recovery 3.32.710.9 you can find it in post #4 in the same thread (also linked in my signature)

Hi ckpv5,
I dowloaded the stock recovery I needed and it worked. I update from 4.4.4 kitkat to 5.0.1 Lollipop. Now my phone software number is 4.20.710.5
But after the update I run through some problems:
1. Right after the update, I got a notification for another system update 4.20.710.7. So I hit the download and install. But the install didn't complete, it stopped with that red triangle. So I rebooted back to 4.20.710.5
2. My phone shows that I have coverage and data connections, but I cant use internet for some reason. It works fine on Wi-fi though
3. Using ES file explorer, I cant detect my external sdcard. Can't play music on my external sdcard
Would you know how to solve the above issues?
Many Thanks
1. When you have that red triangle, you hold and press volume up button and tap power button once. This will take you to the recovery page where you can read what error tha you have. Usually unexpected content of some system files
2. Check what OS is written on bootloader - is it 4.20.710.5 or 4.20.710.7
I believe the update failed and you still have 4.20.710.5 written on bootloader
3. No idea about that. What you can do is restore a non-rooted stock 4.20.710.5 backup (system part is enough). You can get the backup in my thread. Then redo OTA.

Thanks again for your reply.
1.I pressed the volume up and power buttons, and I got this message:
Fiinding update package...
OPening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
L50QCT.01.101.009
Package expects build fingerprint of Htc/htc_asia_aus/htc_m8:5.0.1/LRX22C/463267.5:user/release-keys or htc/htc_asia_aus/htc_m8:5.0.1/LRX22C/463267.7:user/release-keys; this device has htc/htc_asia_aus/htc_m8:4.4.4/KTU84P/397296.9:user/release-keys
Installation aborted
Write host_mode: 0 done
2. Yes bootloader is still 4.20.710.5
3.When I used the non-rooted 3.32.710.9 stock to update to 4.20.710.5. Does it mean my stock recovery is also updated or it remains the 4.4.4 one?
Hopefully I am making sense
1. The error shows that wrong recovery is used for OTA.
It expects 4.20.710.5 or 4.20.710.7 recovery but your device has 3.32.710.9 recovery installed.
2. As expected
3. The recovery should get updated with OTA and it's weird that you have the old recovery intact.
Like it's weird that the latest AUS OTA has funny file in it - a z01 file or something that some people say it's some video file.
You can try again the OTA. Install 4.20.710.5 recovery and see how it goes.
Issue!! (SOLVED)

I was having this same issue when trying to process the OTA update.
i was on stock recovery 3.32.710.9 (device had stock rom yet was rooted). each time i tried to process the OTA update it got halfway and then displayed the red triangle.
i followed your idea and flashed the other stock recovery (4.20.710.5) i then proceeded to install the OTA update. The update seemed to work, however now the phone boots and gets stuck at the HTC one screen (second htc one screen) i am now lost for what to do, any idea?
EDIT: i managed to get to the bootloader by holding power and volume up and then switching to volume down after the screen turns black. what procedure should i undertake once i am at the bootloader (remember: i have recovery 4.20.710.5 and i had just done the update)
extra info: i can use fastboot commands from pc and i receive the following information

SECOND EDIT: sorry for another edit but i have fixed the problem
i tried all three recoveries or 3.32.710.9, 4.20.710.5 and 4.20.710.7 however they all resorted in a bootloop. i finally decided to flash the twrp recovery and luckily i had a stock 4.4.4 android backup on my sd card. i restored to this backup via twrp and the phone boots up normally.
i will now go bout flashing the stock recovery and trying to update from there, without rooting.

It was mentioned before, you can't do OTA with a rooted ROM.
Actually you can use 4.20.710.5 backup that I have in my thread, then you need to do 2 OTAs only 4.20.710.7 and 4.20.710.9
If the 4.4.4 backup is good then it's good.
If it fails or you get stuck you can try 4.20.710.5 or just wait I update the link for 4.20.710.7 when I'm home on Sunday.

Please help!!!

Can any one please tell me what to do my problem is when I turninig my phone on it says setup wizard stopped working I could not post a link for the picture because I am new here I have tried factory reset and hard reset nothing worked A guy told me to install ruu but I have s_on so any souloution??
There is no problem to install RUU on S-On device. Just need to relock bootloader if it is unlocked.
You may have remove/freeze Setup Wizard or it's corrupted.
Restore your nandroid backup if you have any. If no, try restore a stock nandroid backup or RUU.
Without fastboot getvar all information, nothing much to help you
Post here fastboot getvar all result (minus serial & imei no.), someone may be able to help you

Firstly - remove that serial no & imei no from your post
You have 3 options :
1. Restore 4.16.401.10 TWRP backup and 4.16.401.10 stock recovery then do OTA update to 4.16.401.13
or
2. Relock your bootloader and install 4.16.401.10 RUU.exe - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56140330&postcount=1
(make backup of your internal storage important data as this will wipe everything)
or
3. Relock your bootloader and fastboot flash the 4.16.401.10 RUU.zip - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235
(make backup of your internal storage important data as this will wipe everything and also note you need htc_fastboot instead of normal fastboot)
You can get the RUU.zip from link in option 2.
Option 2 & 3 - you will have the hassle to relock bootloader and later re-unlock bootloader if you want to root it again and this process will wipe your data.
I would go for option 1, no need to relock bootloader - you can get all the needed files in link in my signature

I think you can skip option 2 & 3 as it seems most links to required files are no more.
Go for option 1, no need S-Off, no need to relock bootloader.
What you need is an unlocked bootloader and TWRP recovery installed, use TWRP 2.8.6.0 or 2.8.7.0

No, not zip file ... extract zip on PC and copy the last folder 4.16.401.10 not 4.16.401.10_ckpv5 folder to TWRP/Backup/Serialno./ then restore on TWRP

Download lollipop RUU, should work with your device.
Have you tried flashing with sd-card?
When did this bootloop first appear?

sorry for late response, I tried the lollipop RUU too
1. with fastboot, it says :02 remote fie is too large
2. via sd card...finding package..opening package....unable to map file
And here is the story of bootloop. my phone was working fine till I received the official lollipop update, which failed repeatedly during installation. I checked the recovery log and found some error in system/bin/flash_camera and decided to flash just recovery image. I flashed recovery and boot image from the ota update I received...but got stuck. then I started trying all these RUU stuff but still no clue. thanks for listening
Ah, okay.
Can you select recovery in hboot and does it start up normally? Have you tried a Kit Kat nandroid backup with twrp?
Ps: you need to delete your imeis in the first post..

yes once stuck on white screen with htc, I need to hold vol up+ power to turn it off and before it reboots automatically I open hboot by vol down+ power. from there I can continue in recovery mode and fastboot etc. no I haven't tried nandroid backup with twrp. I want to get stock rom so that I am able to get updates in future. plus I read twrp backup roms are havng problems like wifi and all.
That sounds like your bootsector is damaged, so usb debugging is disabled.
Did you back up your old recovery.img? The kit kat one before the update?
The easiest way, if you're able to flash a custom recovery, is a clean nandroid backup without root using twrp and once your device is booting again, start from scratch.
Enable usb debugging, unlock bootloader, flash stock recovery, relock bootloader and flash RUU.

no I havent backed up the KitKat factory image
I flashed the latest twrp recovery and booted to it. also I placed a twrp stock backup in sd card ( from one of the threads on this forum) . but when I proceed to backup from sd card, it doesn't appear there, however in the install option I can see the contents I placed..but again I m not getting an option to install it from there. guide me what to do next.

OTA's not working.

I'm sure a a post like this have came up a million times but I can't find any. Recently I have just fully unrooted my phone and set it back to stock recovery and everything. So as I was setting up the basically factory phone I went to install the software update for o2. And so I download the file and I think everything is good. But when I go to install it, it just restarts the phone in the fastboot mode and update s not applied, and from here I'm not sure how to get the update working. I would appriciate any help given
Thank you for your time to help.
If you need the CID and other information I will get it posted
Fully unrooted most of the time won't work for OTA.
You need a never rooted stock ROM to update.
I may have the backup that you need in my thread linked in my sig.

I used one of your backups when I was unrooting the phone, but it still doesn't seem to work? I matched the CID for the recovery and I think I got a rom from a different stock post

How can you unrooting when using my backup ? It comes stock non-rooted.
The recovery, you don't match with CID but match it with the stock backup that you restored.
Example - 3.32.206.9 stock backup, install 3.32.206.9 stock recovery
Wrong recovery, OTA will fails.
Post your fastboot getvar all result (delete serial & imei no. before posting), we'll see which one that you actually need.

With this info, you need to restore 2.22.206.6 stock backup and install 2.22.206.6 stock recovery to successfully OTA.
Then you need to do multiple OTAs : 2.22.206.6 -> 3.32.206.9 -> 4.20.206.1 -> 4.20.206.2 -> 6.13.206.5
Doing this kind of OTA, no need to relock bootloader
If you want a shortcut - install 4.20.206.2 RUU.zip
Download - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24369303960686241
After install 4.20.206.2 RUU, you need to do only one OTA to 6.13.206.5
You can follow this guide but use the above RUU not the one in the guide - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
Doing this RUU then OTA, you need to relock bootloader first and this will wipe everything in your internal storage. Make backup before you proceed.

What you mean that you messed up.
It's not easy to brick a S-On device ... did you follow instructions accordingly.
Explain what you did to see where it is wrong.

Its out there. I put it on the sd external card. I rename it 0PKVIMG.zip and start into bootloader where it gets read instantaneously and begins to install the sense 7.0 Android 6.0. IF you have first relocked your bootloader at htcdev .
It is explained by htcdev
You can do it too as I did.
Hello,
Then I can try with any stock rom having the Sense 7 and Android 6 ?
Thank you

There is only one I have seen that is out there to download. It worked and my phone can be completely restored to the basic MM. It then immediately prompts to update as it is the initial MM 6.0 to start. Then it may update a 2nd time. It is sense 7 and android 6 Marshmallow. It is EU vsn. Don't know about other continents and carrier versions.
Hello,
I downloaded this one :

I'll try do flash it.

How did it go? Did it went?
Hello,
I downloaded it at this link :
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24591023225176246
Good luck
Did it work for you ? I'm also trying to go back to stock on my m8s. Tell me how did you do it if it worked.
Hello,
I could not flash it, TWRP print several errors.
I tried the TWRP-4.16.401.13.zip, TWRP sent me errors like : <Could not find "META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary" in the zip file>
No idea.
Hello,
I had to lock the bootloader, before flashing the zip file.
This flash is now installed (0PKVIM[email protected]60201_20.05_018_F_release_479349_combined_signed.zip), and it works.
This version is compatible with these CID :
HTC__001,
HTC__102,
HTC__032,
HTC__Y13,
HTC__031,
HTC__M27,
HTC__002,
HTC__A07.
and for the modelid : 0PKV10000
The OTA will work.
How to do :
This flash is for
Firstly, charge the M8s to 100%.
1- Lock the bootloader, it became "RELOCKED".
2- With your PC, copy this zip file into an SD card, remane it : 0PKVIMG.zip (it starts with zero)
3- Insert the sd card into M8s and boot into bootloader,
4- It takes at least 10 minutes to finish the new flash.
Good luck.
I want to flash the same version too but when I relock the bootloader there is some bugs that make that the flash doesn't work. Please help.
