"Back" button function as "back" in web browsers. Possible ? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey
Here is what i noticed and what annoys me.
When i click on the link and during loading website, sometimes its a second , sometimes a lot longer (like this forum) i wanna abort loading page and go back to previous page when i clik back button (soft keys/navbar) it in forst place abort loading page and then going back which means its 2 steps. I can do the same with, for example Opera browser. But with opera its 1 step. Pressing "<" button gets me to previous page immediatelly. It aborts loading page+gets me back. Can i give....hmm how to say it a "power" of back browser button to softkey "back" ?
Its easier for me to use navbar keys to navigate in internet. I just dont want to double click "back" button to actually get back 1 step

There is an Xposed module for chrome PIE control.

It must be for Opera something

[REF] Sky's Remote Record Service on Touch HD

I've always been frustrated that sky have never released remote record for windows mobile, and recently even more frustrated when i noticed they've released an official iphone version!
It's ok to use the java version if you have a keyboard on your phone but i've never managed to log-in using just a touchscreen, until not. Here's how:
Before doing the following make sure you have activated remote record from your sky account.
Firstly download and install AE-Button Plus. Set it up in the following way:
Volume Up:
1: Press Up arrow key
2: Press Left arrow key
3: Press Enter
Long: Press Left SoftKey
Volume Down:
1: Press Down arrow key
2: Press Right arrow key
3: Press Enter
Long: Press Right SoftKey
Next download and instal the attached file (SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar), it's the java version of sky remote record.
Once it's installed run it and you'll be presented with a login screen. The username field should be highlighted in yellow. Press the volume up key 3 times. Your keyboard should pop up. Enter your username and press ok.
now pres the volume down key once to highlight password then press again 3 times. Now enter your password and press ok. Press the volume up key for a few seconds to login. It should take a few seconds and you'll be logged in to sky's remote record service.
To navigate around it just use the key mappings from above.
Got everything as you detailed......But trying to log in gives "Make sure tyou are connected" I thought logging in would instruct a connection! Connected to the internet and tried again! Same error message. Any suggestions? Ta

Trice,
I had solved this a couple of weeks ago on www.coolsmartphone.com , where it had been discussed for the Kaiser, but could not get it to work simply by mapping the buttons as you mention (Left & Right Soft keys would not work even when mapped in aebutton plus). Had meant to post the solution here, but forgot!!
The built in java did not work for me, so i had to install the java software they provided...and there was a registry key change needed as well.
See http://www.coolsmartphone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13782&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 for my solution, I've posted it below as well.
Firstly, follow the instructions in the original article posted by gears ie. register on the web for sky mobile and download and install the java software and SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar file.
Also register for "Remote Record" via your Sky+ box (instructions on the Sky.com website)
Next, as the HD does not have a hardware keyboard, we need to "spoof" the OS into thinking the HD does have one. This is done in one key in the
registry (which I found completely by accident while looking for a different one!).
Goto... "HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Shell" and change the value of "HasKeyboard" to 1
Soft Reset the phone.
We will then need to map some of the buttons to give us up/down/left/right, Enter and Left/Right Soft keys. As NickMilner suggests above, i use "AE Button Plus" and my mapping instructions assume that's what you will use. (the program does cost but i don't know of any other one that provides double, triple and long press options for each key and appears to work well enough in free/trial mode anyway!)
Map the following in AE Button Plus
Volume Up button: Single press - Volume Up
Double press - Press Up Arrow
Triple press - Press Left Arrow
Long press - Press Left Soft Key
Volume Down Button: Single press - Volume Down
Double press - Press Down Arrow
Triple press - Press Right Arrow
Long press - Press Right Soft Key
Green Phone Button: Single Press - Press Green Button
Double Press - Press Enter
I would have liked to use the Red Phone button, but whatever selection i made, the red button always acted as an "Exit" button in the java app, so I went with the above. It's a bit complicated I know with all those double and triple presses, but IT WORKS and i've soon got used to it. I'm sure you could chose your own combination of presses, but the above ones work.
Well, there you go, see if it works for you (I Bl**dy hope so...this has taken me ages to write!!)

Slightly different key mappings than yours (mine keeps vol up/down on the same keys), but the effect is the same!
I would suggest people try whichever works for them.

Sorry, I hadn't refreshed after I posted so hadn't seen your method. I'll try this evening.

I was getting a connection error when i was trying to login while connected to activesync. I disconnected and tried again through 3g and it worked fine. Are you trying to connect through 3g?
I've downloaded the file, SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar.zip - and an app to open it, but I can't actually get it to run? I know it's bound to be something really simple, but can someone tell me what I'm likely to be doing wrong? Thanks.

You have to extract SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar from the zip file. Once you've done that move SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar to your HD and install it using the java client that should already be installed on the HD.
That helped me get a bit further thanks, only now, when I actually try to install it, I get the message, " The archive file (.jar) for /_SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar appears to be corrupt. -36".
Any ideas?
Can you not write a Dpad program to run the Jar program inside it???

Yes I was standalone connecting to 3G.
Hi All,
I'm new to this forum, but I've been interested in the above problem for a while. I'm using the Xperia X1 Phone and have recently installed a windows mobile 6.5 rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508057
Previously I was using 6.1 and unable to connect to the application, receiving the message:
'The data connection has failed. Please check the network coverage'
From reading the previous comments and other threads I wasn't the only one. However, after installing the above rom, everything seems to be working perfectly (including remote record). I didn't even have to do any button mapping.
I think the internet config settings applied by my network provider (vodafone) was stopping the application from connecting. Installing the new rom applied default settings and eliminated what was causing the connection problems. I also tried via my WIFI connection, but it wouldn’t connect using this methos.
Hope some of this helps,
MJ
Followed the instructions as per OP, but seem to be struggling with AE Button Plus. I thought I'd mapped the buttons correctly, but they still don't work! Does anyone have any suggestions? (using v 2.6.6)
An update that might help some. I couldn't get AE Button to work with the CAB mentioned in this thread - so no Sky on my mobile! - but a different approach saw me try to access Sky Player using Skyfire ................ and it worked! A little bit fiddly, but useable.

What does this button on the Touch Pro2 do? Where is the windows and okay key?

What does the this button on the Touch Pro2?
Is this button also an okay button? I don't see any ok button on the Touch Pro2 keyboard and if it doesn't have it, I won't get the Touch Pro2. The picture is attached on my first post.
It is the "back" button

So it deletes text and moves back in opera browser? That's all? That's the dumbest hardware choice ever.
Seriously man, what does it do and WHEN DOES IT DO IT?
When it goes back, does it alt tab also?
Please be specific, I obviously know what back does but the point is that I need to know exactly how it works.
For example the zoom bar on toshiba tg01 only works in the web browser while the zoom bar on the touch pro2 works in both the browser and in images.
So please explain in detail. I need an okay button.

No TP2 for you. It's a return key.
What is does? Well, it goes back. Twice if you press it twice.

Oh I see it's like the back key (which also functions as delete) on my Xperia.

Yea. it backs up pretty much any program your in. Also, if your in a windows menu, hitting that will take you back to the previous menu, or to the home screen if you hit it enough times. hitting the 'end call' button im told also takes you directly to the home screen.
Not sure if it works for Text typing. as when your typing, you should either be using the on-screen keyboard, or the hardware keyboard, both of which have their own backspace.
It interesting that not a lot of people know this. The back key can be used as an okay key. Every time you have a window with an okay button, you can use the back key for it.
(I've actually seen a review of the TP2 that blasts it for not having an okay button)
Hmmm very interesting posts.
You see my Xperia has an okay button but it only serves as functions for pressing the ok or x on the screen.
However the okay button does not goes back between web pages and that kind of stuff or text editing.
But my Xperia has a [del/backspace] key on the keyboard and it also serves as a backspace and web page browsing button that goes to the previous page.
So are you saying that the 3rd button on the TP2 is a combination of both the [del/backspace] and the okay button?
By the way...does the Touch Pro2's back button also apply settings when it presses [ok]?

Yes it functions exactly as the ok button on screen. I've just tried it out and it saves settings etc
Here's my attempt at a definitive answer to this. The back key
does the following:
-In Opera, if any text fiels is selected (ie, address bar, search bar, text box in website) it functions as the backspace key. (This is quite silly, I think)
-In Opera, if no text fields are selected, it functions as a back button.
-In all apps, it functions as an ok and minimize button. It will save settings. Eg, if you have the calculator app opened, pressing this button will minimize it.
-In level 1 TF3D tabs, it'll return you to the Home tab. Eg, if at Weather tab, it'll bring you to Home tab.
-In the Album app, if viewing a picture, it'll bring you back out to thumbnail view.
-In all 2nd level views of TF3D, it'll bring you back to the level 1 tab where you were. Eg, if you're in the Music Library, it'll bring you out to the Music tab.
-In Calendar day view, it'll bring you back to month view.

Thanks, I will highly consider swapping this for the Xperia X1 and paying maybe 100-150 dollars that the X1 can't pay for (if I get the money of course).
I wonder if anyone knows about what the "House" button on the T-Mobile Touch Pro2 is going to do. They switched it from a Windows Symbol into a House.

[Q] Strange HW-Keyboard behavior

Hi,
im using the i927 with OsiMood-Rom.
Today its the second time, that my hardware keyboard behaves a bit strange:
- When I press "e" the Email App opens
- When I press "b" the browser opens
First time I got it "repaired" with a reboot, for now a re-open of the keyboard helped.
What is going on there?
That is not a weird behaviour but a feature. It's called "Quick Launch" and is started by pressing and holding the search button on hw keyboard plus any key in the hw keyboard. the "E" key is the default for email (press "Search" + "E" = Email), you can modify this in settings > applications > quick launch
Thanks, I mentioned that it's something like this but I didn't know what other button activates the shortcut or where to disable it

Like me, you might be using the "Search" button (either soft/hardware keys) to launch apps a lot.....most of the time, I end up pressing search plus the first character of an app i want to launch that results in pressing the two keys almost at the same time. That is how I accidentally discovered it....
I was like searching the "Email app" then I accidentally pressed the "E" key while the "Search" key is pressed then I went "How did this thing know that I want to launch Email?"
Press your search key again on your keyboard it is stuck. Happened to me once or twice. Quick launch is launching your short cuts that are programmed because it thinks you are hitting a 2 key combination. (Search and E)

Best way to 'close' apps + folder problem

Hi, first thing, this is my first Android phone and I understand I should press the back button to close out of apps rather than press the home button. So this means if I have been surfing for a while, I have to press back, say 20 times, going backward through all the pages I've visited, until I reach the first page opened and the browser will close.
I know I can press home to close, then press the right menu button to bring up the recent apps and swipe the browser away, but isn't there a better way to close out of programs? I thought maybe holding the 'back' button would force close it but it just brings up the browsing history.
2nd: I'm finding that some programs do not go into certain 'folders' while it goes into other folders, what is causing this?
Thanks.
On cm10 or any custom rom actually has the option in developers options to "long press back to kill app" if you don't have that option the only way is it press the home button hit the recent apps button not the menu button and swipe it away. How is that hard? Its much harder to do the same task on iOS.
Also I'm not too sure what you mean by the folder deal can you take a screenshot and upload it here. ( hold power + volume down.)

The browser is a unique case where you don't have to back out. The best way is just close the current tab, or all tabs you have open, to close the browser. You don't go 20 pages back for browser closing. But for all apps yes back button is the best way to close apps when you're done.
Lol wow... I do that all the time and completely forgot thanks.

[Bug] Back Button Recent App (Back Stack)

Since the 4.4.2, I having this bug but I thought it was a feature until I came across this https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=63570
Video Link: http://youtu.be/40Rs6vnx_Wc
Does anyone else find this annoying? I rapidly hit back when I want to go home (when home button is right there, I still prefer the back button :silly
I have the same habit. I'm trying to train myself to just hit Home. It's taking some time... haha
My device ( in 4.4.4 KK) has same behavior. But while I hit back button, it shows my default browser UI (Chrome or Opera). It's a little annoy
