To be honest, I'd be more interested to see if some third-party charger without a permanently attached cable is released.

Agreed.
Many people questioned Huawei behind the logic of this decision and they mentioned that it's much easier to lose the small charger puck without a cable so although it's true that the cable insertion point may break over long time use if you bend it every which way, that's not of course 100% guaranteed so in their eyes they'd rather risk that over entire loss.
Whether or not we agree is a different story of course but I'm sure someone can easily make a better third party charger if there's enough of a demand for it.

Yeah, I doubt it is anything advanced inside. I would personally have like a similar charging arrangement to the Moto 360 but I guess no product is perfect.

Or it could have a Type-C port for the hell of it. I would like a spare one with a non-fixed cable for traveling.
Pretty annoying that you still can't buy a second charger. I would really like two more...one for my travel bag, one for the bar in the kitchen and one for my bedroom. Also kind of annoyed that its more expensive than the somewhat similar Apple Watch charger(!) and is actually more primitive.
The Huawei charging cradle is now available at Google Store:
https://store.google.com/product/huawei_watch_charging_cradle
Got my extra charger today from the Googs. They ship it SmartPost , but it does eventually get there. It's packaged all fancy like the watch...same cloth textured cardboard, a little pull tab to pull out the inside, etc. Sorry, no pics.
Have any of you tried any of the third party charging cables on eBay?

Not what I'm after. A non-cabled unit would be much more portable, like my 360 had. I already carry multiple USB cables, so just the puck is all that is needed.

Call me crazy, but has anyone actually tried this charger on our smartwatches.. It looks an incredibly similar fit.
As a back up and spare etc, this could be a cheap option to carry around. These spurious ones even use micro usb.
If the pins are the same but location is slightly different I am sure I could modify.

A little more hackish, but why not just use a Male to Female USB extension.

Yes, this works. You can do better than Amazon though:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10303#1030304
Very high quality, can't beat the price. Much better alternative than spending $10-$20 for a knock-off OEM cable.

Yes! AFAIK Monoprice makes or at least has their house brand cables manufactured themselves. Their prices are amazing and their quality is a notch above the "premium" cables that Best Buy pushes on you.
I can also vouch for the Amazon Basics USB extenders as we use a ton of the 3m ones at work.
Remember that the Tab will slow charge unless you use a charger that can tell it to fast charge. Otherwise it thinks it's charging off a PC USB port and won't draw more than 500mA. I haven't measured the Samsung adapter to see if D+/D- are shorted, but on my Nexus One and Nook Color this trick works great

Yes, I have bought tons of stuff from them. 2 TV mounts about a year back...$50 each for top quality mounts (better than the $500 mounts Best Buy sells). Recently I have purchased about four micro-USB cables for my Evo (for the car, the house, the apartment, etc.). And I have also purchased audio cables from them.
Never a problem...great products, great pricing. Can't go wrong!

I use Amazon because I have prime and they deliver in 2 days for free, even for a $3 cable. In the past I have ordered TV mounts from MonoPrice, and they are absolutely fantastic as well. Great prices and great service.
Funny how for the same cable as mono price charges $2, Best Buy charges $40 and people just blindly walk in and pay it... guess that's what's keepin the doors open at bestbuy
Thanks for the info in this thread, the stock cable that came with it is way too short, kinda annoying actually.

little old but this is true. Their HDMI cables are better than the BB ones and pretty much anything out there. Don't be fooled by big marketing and shiny connections. Trust me, these work and they are GREAT. There was a BIG controversial show down between big names and the no names and well, guess who won.

Its not the cable. Its the USB ports on PCs. They only push out around 500mA. The tabs need around 2mA to get rolling.. Thats why we can charge on a wall socket while using it, and the PC wont charge it even if the screen is off. The Tab as to be off completely for the PC to charge it.

Thanks a bunch. I'll order one of those cables on Amazon since I have Prime. It's weird, even the official charger only charges about 5%/hour while in use and not a ton more than that while fully off.
Edit: I tried using an extender I found in my closet. When I hooked it up, the tablet went from 'charging (AC)' to 'discharging'. A message saying 'USB connection and 'MTP connection.

So, you're confirming that a USB extender does NOT work?
I've seen lots of reviews of longer cables on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Galaxy-Tablet...?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1315864961&sr=1-17) that say all these 3rd party longer cables DO NOT charge at the same rate as the OEM cable, even with the OEM charger
Has anyone else confirmed if a USB extender or any available 3rd party longer-than-OEM cable will still charge at the same rate as the OEM cable with OEM charger?

I was searching for magnetic cables of Sony Z1 and I found this on ebay: ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Original-Sony-Magnetic-Charging-Cable-for-Xperia-Z-Ultra-Z1-L39H-New-/251364357743?pt=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3a867bb66f

I have two of those. They are NOT genuine, but a rather good attempt at KIRFing it.
They do work, but the magnet is a little on the weak side. The connector part seems somewhat deeper than the genuine item, so in all likelihood, this will work cases (provided they aren't too thick).

So where is the OMG Sony Magnetic cable?
I've had the cable for a week or so now and am pretty happy with it. Fairly sure it is just a good Chinese knock off but everything works as expected. Makes charging a breeze by not having to open the flap every time, only issue is it is a bit hard to line up in the dark.

As I have read in amazon.de and amazon.co.uk about any chinese recharging magnetic cables, most of people leave utterly negatives ones, they tell after some time it does not recharge because of some magnetic problem, I didn#t really get what exactly. I would advice to use instead original docking station from Sony, again most of comments in both sources were positives, That is why I don#t trust in chinese cables, phone is too expensive to take a risk ...

Very pricey, I want it. I'll have to see catch it at a deal.
The Tylt definitely is a looker, but I can't justify spending that much on a charger.
I just want something around $15 - $25 that outputs higher than 1A... I want to at least attempt to come close to the max Qi for the Nexus 5.
The cheap $15 one I have right now is 1A max output (so less of course) and I'd say it charges a little over half as fast as the stock charger.
I don't want to spend higher than that for essentially a glorified usb cable.
Missed out on the tylt deal (also already have the nexus) so I couldnt get one. So trying the diy route
Yeah I'm with you guys, they definitely charge a premium for it. I missed out on the sale too but bought it anyway and I'm glad I did. It's really one of the most convenient accessories if not THE most convenient accessory I've ever bought for a phone/tablet and it's that convenience you pay for. I wish it was cheaper, but still think it's worth the asking price.

Ahhh the heat thing. Yeah, that *can* degrade the performance of a battery over an extended period of time, but I don't see that being a major concern. Your phone gets warmer during gaming sessions or just browsing the web than it does when on a wireless charger so the argument can be made that it's worse for the battery to actually use the phone than to charge it wirelessly. That said, at least in my experience, my TYLT charger doesn't make my N5 or N7 warm at all. And my N5 is on it all the time. Bottom line- use your phone the way you want to, you're going to be upgrading long before your battery dies anyway.
Slightly OT, but does it matter if you plug in your Qi charger into a USB 2.0 port on a computer, or do you need to use a USB 3.0?
I know that the mAh of USB 2.0 is something like only 500mAh, but I believe it still supplies the same 5V as USB 3.0 would. Would a Qi charger go by the 5V input, or would is use the 500mAh max draw rendering the charge time absolutely horrendous?
I don't really know how it works too well. I have my Qi charger plugged into a USB port on my power bar for my night stand. But I'd like to have 2 more, 1 for my desk (hooked to my desktop computer) and another for my notebook.
Hi,
I just received my Sony Smartwatch 3 and something looks weird to me. The charger plug is located in a not convenient location. So I'm wondering if an inductive charging is possible and what charger model would be compatible.
Thx.
no chance. Just have to fiddle with that bad boy. a cradle would help. I'd think a third party could develop a qi charging plate/case that you could leave plugged in. Something like this but sized correctly.
I really wonder why they didn't put magnetic charging contacts on one of the edges of the watch unit. Would have been so convenient since I already have Sony docks and USB cables with magnetic ends.
See I completely disagree. I like the fact that Sony have just made the charging by micro USB. So I only have to carry one charger that does my watch, phone and tablet. The positioning of the port is inconvenient, but I believe it is where it is so it is unseen and doesn't rub against your wrist. What they really need to package with the watch is a cable that is a decent length that has a right angle plug at the watch end to make it easier to insert.
This made my life a little easier:

Yesterday, I took my new Smartwatch 3 and inserted a Cisno Ultra Micro USB Magnetic Adapter Charger Cable. It works! What's more, even with the charging port's rubber flap bent backward, my wrist can't feel any difference; I'm using the metal (stainless steel) band and don't own the rubber band to test it with.
Here's a stock photo of the Cisno adapter attached to a phone:
I assume that any magnetic adapter that looks like this will work; in fact, the Cisno turned out to be a Wsken. That irked me: I specifically bought the Cisno because the seller claimed it's strictly for charging, not for data, and I didn't want to risk that my Sony watch or my Sony Z Ultra GPE phone would interpret the charger to be in data mode. In any case, the watch's battery charged rapidly, going from 1% to 100% in about 25 minutes.
For anyone who is considering the Sony Smartwatch 3 but finds micro-USB charging too much trouble, a magnetic charger is a game changer. Just remember that it requires a proprietary 3ft cable; you'll probably want to buy extra kits so you'll have additional cables for the office, the car, and your travel kit. I haven't found kits that offer a longer cable.

Looks like a winner.
Just got mine - putting the adapter into the MicroUSB port was kind of scary as you have to press really hard (and might break something). I am really happy in the end though - makes charging so much easier.
I got mine from Tinydeals for under $4. I can confirm, the adapter doesn't bother me. All I need now is to find a replacement metal band.
clever! would it affect the water resistance though, having the rubber flap open like that? I went for the right-angled micro usb cord and it has been great so far.
certainly broke water resistance

I've personally used the following chargers with a lot of USB C cables.
HP elite x2
Huawei 6P
Galaxy s5
IPhone 4/5/6/7
Usb 3 on a laptop /pc
To name but a few, the chap in the article says that his phone superheated, my phone obviously gets hot /warm /warmish when charging but no more than I'd expect.
I'd prefer not to shorten my batteries life expectancy and I know it's probably best practice to only use the htc charger, but would these other chargers actually do any damage?
I also never overcharge my devices and I've not had any problems as yet.
Anyone else had any issues?
Cheers
I doubt it cause critical problems, but I always use HTC cable and chrage just in case.

I have several cables and chargers because I travel and work and spend time in different rooms in my house, I'm not going to cart one charger around with me all the time, if I did it would be a first on any phone.
Its just when I read about it I can't remember seeing an issue with chargers / cables on previous devices.
Hyperbole stuff. The cable themselves support up to 20V/5a. The phones he is testing on supports PD1.0 not 2.0 or 3.0(3.0 currently being developed). The cables are agnostic and if you use a wall charger then you will be fine. You just have to watch out for knock offs, or cheap crap that cut corners.

The ones I buy are Monoprice ones. They are slightly more expensive but they do have a lifetime warranty. Samsung ones do scare me. They are so much smaller than I am comfortable with. They always seem to cheap out on them.
