I just have one question.
Do I need wifi only for my android device in order to download updates for moto 360
or can I just use 4g lte and download faster?
I donĀ“t think so, i have wifi turned off on my watch and yesterday the new update was downloaded ready to install.
The Moto 360 will use the phones WiFi or cellular connection to download the firmware. I downloaded mine over 4G.
Note that the speed is restricted by the Bluetooth connection which is very slow.
No matter by which way we have connected, the update will get downloaded.
Sadly, it wont ask whether to download and may trouble people using limited Mobile Data plans...
It uses the internet connection of the handset whether wifi or data plan

I'm new to all this i just got a verizon VX6900 and put the data block on it, because i thought i would be able to use Wifi for free. How do i enable the Wifi on the device? Also i've read a few things about unlocking, would this be something i need to do and what is it? Any suggestions?
Sounds like you need to do some more research !
There is NO Wi-Fi on this device!
well i have Wifi on my comm manager so why is that?
Because you probably flashed a custom ROM and it has it. There is no wi fi on htc vogue.
So the vx6900(Htc Vogue) has no internet capabilities other than the phone companies data package?

Yes, if you wanted Wi-Fi, you should have gotten the Titan, xv6800.
wifi
be nice champjt he has bluetooth... that is close to wifi isnt it?
cmerrik, you can connect to the internet via tether (cord that plugs mini usb to usb). thats the best way to charge and only way to get free internet via your pc. if not too late (30 day window) you can return it. if you have verizon i think the vx6800 has wifi but check first. wifi is big beef of mine for the touch. you have gps but you if you have vz you have to unlock the phone with a cooked rom (non oem) and load a rom on it... but read up first cause if you screw up you get a bricked phone.
Some people say there is WiFi hardware on the Vogue, just no antenna.
Nope... Sorry!
There is GPS (now enabled with WM6.1 ROMs) but no Wi-Fi...
CDMA version does not have WiFi but the GSM version does.
I hope that helps.
Hi guys
First thing my desire is unbranded and unrooted.
Ever since applying the last OTA my portable hotspot has stopped working.... I connect to a data network no problem, but when I turn on portable hotspot, I loose the data connection. I can see it trying to get the connection back but it loops for around a minute and then gives up with no errors.
My wifi has been fine since the upgrade.
Has anyone else seen this or have any ideas how to fix it???
Many thanks
David
I'm not sure this is the answer to your problem, but hey maybe it is the answer so someone else's problem
A Wifi device is either a client or a server - not both at the same time.
If you tell the phone to be a Wifi server, and it was connected to a Wifi network then that connection ceases to exist.
Next it will broadcast its own Wifi network for other devices to use. Those devices (and your phone) can then browse the web, send mail etc. using your 2G/3G connection, and they can talk to one another using local ip addresses handed out by the phone.
I hope this cleared things up, if not for you then maybe for someone else
Yup - experiencing an issue whenever I select "Press to turn on".. doesn't seem to do much of anything (beyond the Processing dialogue).. and while I get the Icon in the Notification bar there is no hotspot available. Can't configure it either..
similar specs on the phone... unbranded / unrooted

I will be spending a few weeks up in Canada for cold weather testing. According to Sprint, there is no available service where I will be, even if I sign up for the $4.99 Canada roaming plan.
However, I will have wifi available. Will my Evo make a data connection using wifi, without cell coverage?
As long as you turn of 3g and ONLY use wifi, no that only uses wifi data, not sprint data.
I really want to be sarcastic, but I realize everyone doesn't have the same level of networking knowledge that I do.
Your Evo will work fine on wifi. If you're worried about perhaps incurring any roaming charges, just turn on airplane mode and then re-enable wifi.

Guys, thanks for clarifying. I never use wifi so I didn't know when it might/might not work. Plus I was starting to get nervous about the possibility of a few weeks with no data service. Thanks for your patience!
What about getting an airwave unit or whatever its called, that will allow you to use your phone like normal with the airwave connected the internet.
dont expect sms/mms to work over wifi, they need the mobile data connection to transfer
with an airrave? unit the phone would believe its connected to a sprint tower and work normally, if you can do it that would be best, airrave? would need an ethernet connection to the internet

AIRAVE has a GPS receiver in it, and it won't work outside the US.
Ever since I flashed my first ROM (Dandroid), I haven't been able to use AT&T Wi-FI Hotspots.
Before, my phone would automatically connect me to ATT Hotspots and I'd have an internet connection instantly (no login required). But now when I connect to a hotspot, it requires me to sign in. When I open up my browser, I am redirected to a page that lets my buy ATT Wi-Fi Access or login if I already bought it. As far as I know, ATT customers should be able to use the hotspot without having to purchase the service. It seems like flashing this ROM somehow has caused this problem to arise. It's an issue mostly because there are ATT hotspots all over campis, and it's convenient to have my phone automatically connect to them.

Have you contacted ATT about this? Or....
Have you gone back to stock to see if that solves the issue?

Plz help; only able to access the internet via Wi-Fi, can't access using at&t network
Has anyone else had this problem? I can only access the internet using Wi-Fi on my N7A. I can't access the internet using at&t's network even
when the signal strength is showing 5 bars. I've tried accessing the internet using Chrome, FoxFire, etc, I get the following error message:
"You are offline.
try:
- Turning off airplane mode (if it was on I wouldn't be getting Wi-Fi)
- Turning on mobile data or Wi-Fi
- Checking the signal in your area"
My phone is a "new" gen unlocked N730A bought from Best Buy, I had this problem with APH1 and now with the update 2APHE.
I'm running the phone stock (no pseudo-root)
I've done a couple factory resets then tried to access the internet via at&t's network - no joy
I'm really digging my N7 (my second one, sent the first one back due to the recall), but it has limited usefulness if I can only access the
internet when I have a Wi-Fi signal. Thanks in advance.
Edit: Oddly enough I have no problem making or receiving phone calls and I can send and receive text messages over the at&t network.
However I have no internet capability over at&t's network.

You are correct, the problem was an incorrectly set APN. I took the phone to a local AT&T store and
they were able to set the proper APN, now I get great 4G service. Thanks.
