AT&T Wi-Fi Hotspots No Longer Working - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Ever since I flashed my first ROM (Dandroid), I haven't been able to use AT&T Wi-FI Hotspots.
Before, my phone would automatically connect me to ATT Hotspots and I'd have an internet connection instantly (no login required). But now when I connect to a hotspot, it requires me to sign in. When I open up my browser, I am redirected to a page that lets my buy ATT Wi-Fi Access or login if I already bought it. As far as I know, ATT customers should be able to use the hotspot without having to purchase the service. It seems like flashing this ROM somehow has caused this problem to arise. It's an issue mostly because there are ATT hotspots all over campis, and it's convenient to have my phone automatically connect to them.

Have you contacted ATT about this? Or....
Have you gone back to stock to see if that solves the issue?

maybe tri the wifi router cab should be floating around here somewhere
Be careful though...depending on your carrier, and their data plan, it might be considered tethering, and they could sock you for a huge fee if you get silly downloading a ton of stuff. I use mine once in a while, to check email or one or two web pages, when I'm in an area where I don't have wi-fi for my laptop.

In addition, there is a standard application on WM called Internet Sharing - it's for tethering via a USB cable.

I'm on Tmobile and can't seem to get this to work. The WiFi Router sharing works fine, but the USB cable does not. It says it's connected to the internet but nothing ever happens and windows network troubleshooting says it can't resolve a DNS server. I'd just use the WiFi but I don't have a card in my desktop. Any suggestions?

If you're attempting to use the Internet Sharing app to no avail, try changing the Network Connection drop down, inside of the app. Try selecting T-Mobile Data, as opposed to T-Mobile Internet, and it should work for ya...peace...

That drop down has TMo Data, TMo MMS, and TMo WModem Link. I was using data like you said, and it didn't work. You can also set up new connections or edit the config on existing but nothing stands out as out of place to me.

[Q] No free wifi @ SFO with G2??? Won't connect to the free wifi! TMO hotspot only!

Was @ SFO (San Francisco airport) last week and I couldn't connect to the free wifi! My dad's netbook connected just fine though.
This is legit free wifi sponsored by ebay or something, ads around the airport for it.
What was weird was this: G2 was connected to "sfo free wifi" (or whatever it's named) NOT the t-mobile hotspot. I cycled and reconnected many times.
BUT everytime I went to the browser, for some reason it displayed the tmo hotspot login. Did t-mobile break my phone? It's a stock ROM.
The weird thing was the netbook connected fine, but my dad's fake iphone had the same problem as mine...
A bit ticked off at this glitch, any solutions or explanations? I repeatedly cycled wifi on and off, and I also came back another day with the same problem after reboot. I also tried using "wefi" but that didn't help either.
Did you go into wireless networks and try connecting from there? And disconnect from the T-Mobile one?
Of course!
Tried everything, forget, reconnect, cycle wifi etc.
Weird glitch.
Are you sure that the SFO free wireless isn't just provided by TMO? In my experience, most free wifi networks require that you accept some terms and conditions before connecting. Maybe the mobile browsers aren't capable of showing the content?
Did you get a similar screen on the netbook, but with a pop-up terms and conditions?

I've noticed a similar thing with wifi at my friends house. He has the Cisco Valet, I think, and it has a main wifi (closed) and a guest wifi (open but password protected). On my laptop I'd open the browser and get a login page, like at a hotel. On the phone though, this doesn't happen. It'll connect, but can't browse. I'm thinking this is a similar thing. Even though, in your case, free and not password protected on the phone nothing pops up to accept terms or whatever.
My 2 cents.
SFO free wifi: NO login screen just go. Worked perfectly on iPhone and netbook.
T-mo: Login screen.
There is no mistaking anything, worked perfectly on iPhone and netbook.
I connected to both on G2, cycled/forget everything multiple times, it's a weird glitch.
Was wondering if there was a fix or some kind of setting to change, looked through the menu but there are only options to select which network, that's about it.

Closed Wifi networks preventing data connection.

Is there any way to prevent your data connection from being lost when a secured Wifi network is within range. I don't understand why the phone gives a secured wifi network preference over your carriers network... effectively preventing any data connection until you turn off wifi.
Just one example of this annoying problem came when I was navigating to a job location and a road was closed. GPS could not reroute me because I was in a residential neighborhood picking up lots of wifi networks. All the them were secured. So... in order to reroute I had to toggle off my wifi so that my phone would go back to connecting through my carrier.
Why do phones do this? Until your device obtains an IP address from the wifi hotspot it should not bypass the carriers data connection. Is there any way around this that doesn't require constantly turning wifi on and off?
Many thanks...

Never had this problem.... My GS3 has always ignored secured and unsecured wifi networks unless I specifically request to connect to them. The only thing I can think is that its trying to connect to the same SSID that you're using at home like "netgear" or something. If that's the case, shame on you for not changing your default SSID at home.
If not, what setup are you on? Stock/rom/kernel etc.
My SSID does not match anything out there. It happens all the time. When I go to my kids favorite park my phone tries to connect to a cablevison hotspot. When I open an app like Facebook or tapatalk it just hangs. If I open a web browser I get redirected to one of those sign in pages. As soon as I turn off wifi I go back to 4G and browse as normal.
This happens on every phone I've ever owned including my wife's phone, parents phones and brothers phone. I just figured it was something everyone dealt with.... Was hoping for a work around.

T-Mobile Tethering Issues

Hey, everyone. Hopefully someone out there will be able to help me resolve this issue. They have once before, but I just can't find the thread that the solution was posted on. My problem is this:
I have an unlocked, GSM Galaxy Nexus on the T-Mobile $70 unlimited plan. When I turn on my tether, it will connect to my computer, but it will not give me access to the internet at all. What's different this time around is the fact that there isn't an upsell message presented to me anymore like it used to be when I tried tethering. Now, my computer just connects and says "limited connection"/"no internet access". I know it's not the ROM I'm using (CM11KitKat by @PlayfulGod) because everyone else seems to be tethering just fine. It's not my computer either; I've tried connecting to other devices (phones, tablets, even other computers) and it's no internet access on them either. So I know it's the T-Mobile block on tethering. Last year, when I encountered this issue, I was told to use PDAnet+ along with some other app (with some weird, foreign name) to hide my data traffic. That helped me bypass just fine. My issue now is that I don't recall that foreign app's name in order to download it. It worked perfectly, and I need that again to see if it'll work. Can anyone help me figure this out, or even offer up another working solution?
Btw, that foreign app worked by pinging my phone's IP or data (or whatever) to another country or another place in general. I guess it did that to mask my data traffic. T-Mobile can't block something that's not in America.

MetroPCS USB tethering

Hope this is in the correct forum.
99.834% of the time, I resolve my issues through exhausting the plethora of threads here or through google. So before attempt further options..........
Couple days ago, I just purchased a SIM card and the BYOD $60 unlimited plan with MetroPCS.
It was my intention to USB tether into my router and share phone data.
I tested both a T-mobile S3 and a Ting(sprint) S3 prior to walking into the Metro store.
At home I connect the new Metro service via the S3, router detects phone and connects, turn on phone USB tether function, but I get no internet through my network, however phone able to browse with no issues.
Wi-Fi tether works fine. Countless hours later of router updates, app installation, app troubleshooting, retest other phones, APN adjustments, etc.
I really did not want to do it, but I drove back to the MetroPCS store today and had a very helpful employee, explore my troubles.
I brought my laptop and USB cable.
He tried my phone, his phone and a second employees metro service phone with no luck, he called corporate tech line.
MetroPCS Corporate states that company wide, they do not offer or support USB capability tethering? only hotspot tethering.
No one in the store was aware of this and could not help me. What??? really? I find this hard to believe.
As my intention is to connect to a router, apps such as Foxfi, pdanet, etc that need a corresponding app installed of the client are not viable.
I am contemplating apk decompiling to adjust the 'tetheringprovision' file, but wanted to ask the question here.
Anyone able to USB tether their MetroPCS data? Is Metro now blocking USB tether?
Some background.
The phone as a T-mobile S3 T999L, stock rooted 4.1.2 with TWRP.
I also tried USB tethering to a Win8.1 laptop - still same issue, everything connects with no errors, just no internet.
What I can do:
If Wi-Fi internet is available from a secondary source, the phone will USB tether this internet connection.
I also installed a T-mobile sim into this phone just to be certain it was not a phone issue - the T-mobile SIM tethered with internet fine into my router.
Any thoughts?
Upgrade
ok, left to my own devices.......
Reading multiple threads on similar tether problems experienced by others, I kept reading recommendations to install cyanogenmod, as it had native tether functions without restriction.
As most deviations from stock always seem so convoluted, I was hesitant.
WOW, that was easy, except for a small stumble on clearing the cache prior, a factory reset, then copying a zip file, it installed flawless.
Now running 4.4.4.
ALL the T-mobile CRAP is 100% gone, and the best of it all, I got USB tether, woohoo.
Interestingly - the baseband remained the same, but signal improved, another +.
AND....no bloatware. Gotta love it.
XDA forums are the Sh*t !
