[Q] Does anyone know how to maintain wifi authentication with EVO 4G?

I work for a company that provides free WiFi for guests and employees. In order to access the WiFi network, you have to acknowledge that you agree to the terms and services.
When I arrive for work each day, I pull up any random web page and am taken to an internal web page where I have to acknowledge the terms and services of the WiFi service. After doing that, I am granted access to the network. Unfortunately, the access does not remain in place for the duration of my shift. Even though the Evo shows that I am connected to the guest wifi network, I can't connect to the internet unless I pull up a browser and get back to the page where you acknowledge the terms and services. I may have to do this 5 or 6 times a day to connect back to the internet.
Does anyone know of a way to prevent getting kicked off of the guest wifi network using an app or some other method?

I do this at work too. My question for you is do you sit in one place all day long and you still lose the authentication?
I only lose mine because I travel around between floors or leave the building, breaking the connection, requiring me to authenticate when I connect again.

My workplace also does this, however it is timed for 15 mins to disconnect each user.
My phone tells me that the network requires a browser login to gain access, the first time. After I'm logged out it stays connected but I then have to re login.

deathsled, I do move from place to place at work . . . I had not considered that that could be causing loss of connectivity. We have multiple wifi access points in the department and in my area.
Given that info, would there be any way to continue to hit the same access point in a smaller area, without requiring re-authentication?
I had wondered if there was a program running in the background that required low bandwidth, but continual, that it could keep me connected at all times. Something like streaming music may be too much bandwidth. I was looking for any other ideas out there.

In case anyone cares, after flashing Classic v0.0.9 rom (was on v0.0.6) I no longer have loss of connectivity issues. Thanks Tommy!

Galaxy Note 2 Wifi issue

This is pretty strange so I thought I'd check here with people.
I got my new Sprint Note 2 today. When I was at home it connected to my wifi network and worked fine. When I got to work I connected it to our wifi network and the internet won't work. If I turn off wifi internet comes back.
Here's the kicker, I have my old iPhone right next to it connected to the work wifi network and it is connected fine to the internet. This is definitely going through wifi as I no longer have a data plan on that phone.
I checked with our IT admin who said that there is no need to "accept" a device on our wifi network. He also rebooted the network for good measure. After both phones lost the network (from the reboot) and reconnected the same thing happened. No internet from my Note but internet works fine on the iPhone. Restarting my Note doesn't fix the problem.
Any ideas? Thanks.

My network admin created a second wifi network to connect to (I guess our router supported it) and when I connected to the new one I got internet.
If it helps others try and solve the issue he tried pinging the IP address that my phone was using and said that he could only send information but not get anything back.

Try changing your wifi channel config in the router.

Hi, I've got the International version N7100 and experiencing weird wifi problem. I have tried to reset my wifi router and use static IP but it doesn't solve the problem. Btw, the problem is whenever I connect my Note 2 to wifi it would lose connection after a while then messes my router and connection of my PC to router as well. Never had this issue until I brought the Note 2 home a week ago. I had to restart my router and turn off my wifi on Note 2 for everything else to work. My iPad, iPhone and PC are all doing fine when Note 2's wifi is off.

I used to have terrible problems with my Virgin Superhub which all went away when I changed the security settings to WEP hexidecimal from WPA2-PSK (AES). Laptops and phones would have intermittent connections all the time which a reboot or channel change would sort out but only temporarily. Give it a whirl.

I've been experiencing the same problem. It's especially annoying when I try to download big size apps on Google Play ( > 1 gb) because it will stop any moment and i will have to re-download it over and over again. It never happens when I connect to school wifi but it just happens when I connect to my wifi at home. Weird. Nothing is wrong with my wifi at all because my other computer is always connected 24/7 without any problem.

I have a similar problem on Omega Ron v5.0 with latest Andrei kernel. The phone gets stuck sometimes in getting IP address part or have disconnects. It's annoying.

Afraid not.
I did that after other efforts failed but still have to go through same issue every now and then. This is not a permanent problem but something that occurs at least once a day for me.

Also having Wifi issues with GN2 from Sprint
I got the GN2 on it's release date (this past Thursday) through Sprint. Got it home got set up, connected...everything worked beautifully.
After a couple of hours, downloading apps etc. I noticed it had stalled. Turned off WiFI and used the network to finish. Turned back on WiFi and Voila, action again, but a few hours later it stalled.
I first made sure all of my settings were in agreement. No sleep mode or anything like that was enabled. No power saver either.
Couple hours goes by, WiFi connectivity stalls (even though it shows a full signal) I contacted TWC and made sure it wasn't the modem/router. I changed the wifi channel, tinked with the bandwidth... everything worked...an hour later it stalled. Called Sprint they said I had a dud, took it back, exchanged it, got the new one... SAME ISSUES. YEsterday I connected to my Church network HOPING it was an issue at home, but not so. After an hour on the network it stalled.
Contacted Samsung today and they have had no complaints according to them so i said I'm happy to be the first... If anyone finds a fix please let me know.

Do you have any solution yet? I have the same issues with 2 different networks. I already contacted Samsung, but they only say I should do a reset of my device and read the setup instuctions for wifi. I'm still in contact with Samsung and hardly try to get a solution.
Stay tuned, I'll post any news I can get.

I'd prefer it to work with the stronger encryption of WPA2 rather than WEP.

OP: it will be great if you could add a poll to the thread as that way we can see whats the percentage of users are experiencing this issue,

I had this issue with my S3, but never with the Note 2. What i did in that instance was reinstall the OS and that seemed to have fixed the issue. Hope this helps!

Same issue here. Connect wifi and I'm able to hold connection for as little as minutes at times. Turn back on 4G and I'm fine. If I re enable wifi straight after it works intermittently. This is true of both my home and office wifi. So I'm lead to believe it's the phone.

Almost the same thing here. everytime I go out of my home and comeback the wifi network seems to work but no internet access. I have to stop and restart wifi then it works.

Same issue - connects for about 30 seconds
I've tried on different routers. Other devices (iphone, ipad, S3, etc.) all work fine. Sees the wifi network. connects, then disconnects and TURNS OFF WIFI. I can't figure out how to go to service mode to see if this is a timer issue. I've tried on both G and N networks. using a verizon fios, actionteck router (and netgear). Also, will not remember the password credentials. tried router reboot and fidling, etc. Driving me nuts. any suggestions ???

Galaxy Note 2 constantly loses wifi?

I never had problems with my Galaxy note 2 when it came to wifi until I stayed over my mother's house.
My Galaxy Note 2 constantly kept disconnecting, and reconnecting to her router.
I clicked forget network to monitor the signal strength. There was full bars and the signal never got lost.
So I did what a normal user would do. GOOGLE. And I saw A LOT of people experiencing this issue.
Yet there was no solution to the problem! Everyone is hoping to see an update and blah blah.
So I decided to try to figure the problem out myself.
I thought about it. What's different between my mom's optimum wifi vs my Verizon FiOS wifi.
My router has one network name.. Wait my mom has two? Hmmm...
DX20PR.. *disconnects*......... DX20PR 5G *connects*
WALAH! No more disconnecting and reconnecting.
Moral of the Story: If your Galaxy constantly loses wifi signal, check if your router has a '5G' signal, connect to that instead.
Why this works? idfk. But it solved my problem, and hopefully this will solve someone else's problem :good:

If you have AT&T Smart Wifi installed on your phone then that's been known to cause problems also. I had constant wifi connect/disconnect problems until I uninstalled it.

wifi issues set router to use one channel only
I had disconnects a lot as well until I changed my router setting to use only one channel.

I've seen this problem on multiple phones that I've had. A quick restart on the router always fixes it. Lead me to believe it's the router

Make sure you mom's router isn't set to lower then 50 DHCP Address: EX. 192.168.0.50
Sign into the router usually 192.16.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 from web browser. Go to DHCP Setting and make sure you see 192.168.0.XX (XX being the amount of device that can obtain a ip address to get access to internet). If it lower then 20 change to 50 or little higher.

If my WIFI security is using WPA2 my GN2 will lose internet connectivity after some time of the screen being off. The only way to get it back is by turning off WIFI on my GN2 and turning it back on. I don't have this problem using WEP security in the router. However, using WEP security is less secure and severely limits WIFI speeds (can't use N speeds).

I just want to provide a follow-up to this. I recently learned about the ARP table in my router which is responsible for mapping the IP address to its MAC address. If my GN2 doesn't access the internet for a certain period of time its IP address is removed from the ARP table and I have to toggle the WIFI on my phone to gain internet access again. I found that manually adding the IP/MAC address of my GN2 to the ARP table solved this problem. In a 24-hour period I've lost internet access 1 time after about 7 hours of inactivity (I was sleeping) and I gained internet access after a few minutes without having to toggle WIFI. I'm only sharing my own personal experience with this issue in the hopes it will help others. Below is the command I used to manually add a static entry into the ARP table of my router (model: Buffalo WZR-HP-G300N, firmware: DD-WRT):
arp -i br0 -s 192.168.0.101 38:AA:3C:85:1F:7C

I have WAP 2 and I don't lose internet connection. Yes I have a small delay when the SN2 wakes up but it connects right away. Go to your wifi setting and hit forget this network and re enter your pass key and see if this might help. You might have another device using the same ip address.

This did the trick for my father-in-law who was in town with is AT&T Galaxy Note II. His wifi kept turning off/on and disconnecting from my router and I couldn't save the network connection. My router is setup with an N network and a B/G network both with WPA2 , and he couldn't connect to either without the issue (everything other wifi device had no problems). I didn't uninstall the "AT&T Smart Wifi" just went into Manage Applications, stopped the services/application it was running and disabled the application. Immediately the phone was able to connect and keep connection with no problems. I didn't need to restart the router or do anything else.

Was starting to have a panic attack at work as it would not connect at all to my WPA2 network and i just bought this phone of craigslist. Your advice of removing that crappy program fixed everything! Thank you!

Wifi and tether question

Here is a good one.....I am rooted on i317 using DS V2......At home I push the hotspot icon and my tablet hooks right up. The weird: At work same two machines, the wifi connection between the two disconnects every second, it's like blinking wifi...."obtaining IP, connected, disconnected.....Obtaining IP, connected, disconnected.....It will do this for 15 minutes then just gives up.....no internet access. (I have also tried FOXfi and PDAnet with the same result......
Some background: At my work, we use Meraki wifi APs. They have been programmed to block Android operating systems because our company has a contract with Apple to use Ipads. The Meraki APs are running G, N, and AC bands with six different access logons. Three are for network admins, two are for employees, and one is for guests......Could the Meraki APs be disrupting the connection between my tablet and my phone? I get good 4gLTE service 4 bars, 12 mbps download speeds.
Any ideas? Anyone? I couldn't find any articles about disrupting other hotspots.....I Googled every question about the Merakis, I don't know their model# because they are installed way up in the ceiling.....every 75feet or so....

Does the connection optimizer suck?? Is there one that's actually intelligent?

So my phone's data connection does stuff which I can only describe as retarded.
There are comcast wifi hotspots all over the place here. They can come in handy when the LTE signal is weak or nonexistent. But my phone, through the connection optimizer i assume, will connect to any comcast wifi hotspot no matter how weak the signal is even when there's a full strength LTE signal.
So very often I have a great data connection of LTE and my phone suddenly switches to a hotspot with barely one bar of signal. It even does this when i at home with my own wifi. There's a comcast hotspot near my house, but far enough away that the signal is pretty poor. If my phone happens to see the comcast hotspot as I'm driving home and it connects to that, it'll stay connected to that even though my own home wifi signal is at full strength.
Basically, this 'optimizer' is nothing of the sort. It's a pretty dumb application since all it seems to do is connect to any available wifi regardless of the signal strength of the hotspot or over the cell network - and it never bothers to check if there's a better connection once it's connected to something.
Is there any way to make this app even half way intelligent? Or an app i can replace it with?

You're right; it's retarded. Hint: only use it enabled when you want to connect to that Wi-Fi or the type of Wi-Fi that requires the agreement to terms each time you connect. The Optimizer has shown some convenience where a user may roam between that type of Wi-Fi hotspot and data connection.
Android seems smart enough to remember Wi-Fi with typical login. I was on a tire shop today and auto connected to Wi-Fi without looking into remembered Wi-Fi connections (I left Wi-Fi enabled when I left home; often enough, doesn't interfere with cell data when I need it). I freeze the Connections Optimizer and only thaw it when it seems logical.

You may want to disable Smart Network Switch in advanced wi-fi settings also.

What it's supposed to do and the user experience seem to be 2 different stories.
Every discussion I've read on it recommends killing it.

from the article there, it sounds like i am having the opposite problem - my phone isn't jumping from wifi to lte, it's jumping from lte to wifi even if the wifi signal is crap.
