Upgrade to nj5 - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I purchase a referbished note 4 and it came with NI1 installed and Im already getting hit with the update messages. Will the first update be to NJ5 or will it go straight to Lollipop? I want to stay on NJ5 until all hope for permanent root is lost.

Likely Lollipop..then again if you want to be safe, upgrade with hsbadr safe upgrade.

[Q] Upgrading to JB with root? Help*

So i have ics rooted with the snapdragon program. JB is coming out soon so if I am rooted and I get the update what will happen to my root? If the root will go away what is another option to upgrade to Stock JB and also have root?
There are various threads on this topic. You will lose root if you upgrade. You can always root again afterwards. Our you can use rootkeeper. But I'm not sure if it will work.

You will need to return phone to stock rom when update is released. Root might not be an issue but bloat will be required.
Don't worry about losing root. As soon as it's released there will be instructions on how to root. Devs rule!

I am already on stock and all my bloat is there nothing has been frozen, but otherwise u are saying root will remain? and also if i upgrade with the root can i get the phone bricked and will i loose any of my data?
When update is released back up your data to sdcard, remove card, run update via kies (I assume as this was the way my s2 skyrocket received updates) and then root again. Getting root back will not be an issue. We are still a week or 2 away... until then sit tight

[Q] Switched Carriers Can I still Upgrade to Kit Kat 4.4.2 ?

Hello all, I recently switched from T-Mobile to AIO Wireless, Since the phone is an Original M919 can I still do the update to Kit Kat?
This phone has been unlocked, and I have rooted it currently using TWRP, but never installed any custom roms on it it still has the 4.3 on it
AIO Wireless uses AT&T Towers but they have a great deal $45 bucks per month for everything I was paying about 55 for T-Mobile getting only 500MB of Data with AIO i get 2.5 GB of data for 10 bucks less the service is really good hasn't failed me yet.
So that's my question Can I still Upgrade ? and will I loose everything? like TWRP etc... ?
sorry fro the noob question any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Louie
On the KitKat discussion thread, someone put a link to the update package. You can sideload it. Be warned, you will lose root.

To get the official OTA, you will have to go back to stock 4.3 and then upgrade from there. You will probably have to do a factory reset to bring it to official status after you unroot. It doesn't matter what carrier you are currently on.

Thanks I did a back up yesterday before I rooted the phone with Kies, I am looking at ABOUT PHONE and it still says 4.3 and Baseband M919UVUEMK2 isn't that stock ? I haven't put any Custom Roms on it just rooted, I will have to learn how to Unroot lol
Thanks for all your help
You won't need to factory reset. Mine was rooted and I figured it would be easier to use Odin to flash an official 4.3 back on. Did that and the phone was running just like yesterday but without root. So then I went ahead and did the upgrade via wifi. A day later and it's still running great. Never did a factory reset though. Now just patiently
waiting for more people saying they have rooted 4.4

Your best bet is to just install update manually.

[Q] Can we be clear: can we or can we NOT revert back to KK after Lollipop update?

I keep reading that we can "flash" back. When we say this do you mean for the Verizon retail version or the Dev version?
Verizon retail can flash back to KK using odin.

Are there instructions on how to revert verizon retail Note 4 back to KK after upgrade to LP? I've been looking around and so far haven't stumbled across anything.
My Note 4 is my first Samsung phone and I'm not familiar with odin, so instructions on using odin would be helpful too.

You will need to download the firmware from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...mware-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t2942937 I used the ANJ5 full firmware then you will have to extract it to get the tar.md5 file which will be flashed in odin which you can also get from there. http://www.droidviews.com/install-stock-firmware-on-samsung-galaxy-devices-using-odin/ this will show you more about using Odin to flash just remember to check your MD5 on the firmware and Odin. After you flash the file in Odin and it reboots your phone will bootloop so you will need to pull the battery and boot to recovery by holding power+home+volume up and do a factory reset as this will fix the bootloop.
If I downgrade my Verizon note 4 retail from L 5.0.1 to KK 4.4.4 will it trip the warranty bit or knox? I don't want to lose my warranty because it's an Edge device?
Tell you honestly , who would want to, My phone works so much better with 5.01
Because there are too many bugs and better battery life with KK

What the easiest way to root a verizon note 4 5.0.1

Not Possible
You could try Kingroot. I believe there is a method on 4.4.4 so you could also flash backwith the correct stock Verizon ROM and ODIN and go from there. Link is posted below to the firmware for the SM-N910V.

If VZW Note 4 got to 5.0.1 via an OTA update there is no going back to 4.4.4. Furthermore Kingroot only yields temporary root on 4.4.4 and it's extremely limited in it's usefulness. So short answer, no root unless you have the Development Edition Note 4 on Verizon.
