choose when to update? - Moto 360

so i dont have unlimited data, but my watch decided it was time to update in the middle of the day when i was at work, not only killing my watch's battery but also decimating my data limit. i've searched the settings for an option to disable cellular update, update over wifi only, or choose when to update to no avail, and searching google only leads to articles about the next big update doing this and that... any help?!

as far as I know, its impossible... Even I've looked for options but couldn't find one... My watch took around 250mb of data out of the 600mb left once...

The last update to LCA44B was the largest to date at approx 175MB, with previous updates being between 5MB and 100MB.
The update to LCA44B changed the OTA process to be block-based (rather than file-based) which might explain why it was so large.
Bit annoying that it's not possible to defer the update process.

[Q] Google Services just used 800mb today ...

How do I check what it used it for? Didn't make any changes to my phone since I last flashed it like 2 months ago ...
I have the same problem, I am on a pre paid plan and the bloody thing used all of the money on my phone, it used 112mb of mobile data, does anyone have a clue how to track down what apps are calling the Google Services?
Are you on a GSM version of GNex? Are you running stock 4.2.2.? Your phone may be trying to download the OTA update to 4.3 but it's failing to install. Why not leave your phone connected to WiFi when you are at home so it doesn't use your mobile data?
Yes I am on the GSM Gnex, I am on Slim ROM 4.2.2 I did try leaving on the wifi and nothing happens, it is only pulling when on mobile data, which is a very stupid thing.
OP I read around and it seems that it is a updated being pulled, but I don't understand how, because the ROM I am on does not have OTA available. Some users are saying maybe google play is sending the info (hey this phone is on 4.2.2) and then google is trying to push the latest 4.3 to the phone. It could be true, I am flashing 4.3 as we speak to see if this would remedy the situation.
It sucks how all of my credit is now gone because of this.
OP check out this thread and read my last post, upgrade to 4.3 and it seems to cure the problem. Looks like it was an OTA issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2383691
So here's how I managed to check the data usage by Google Services:
Go to Settings
Data Usage
Scroll down if you have to and find Google Services
There it will show you the apps that requested data access. You can restrict background data to Google Services as well. There is a check box at the very bottom of that menu that will do just that.
Cheers

[Q] Very high mobile data usage reported by carrier, no evidence in phone

EDIT: The issue was the carrier's fault and not the OS
I found out yesterday that I breached the 5 GB limit of data usage for the month when the carrier completely cut my data connections.
I went to check the reported usage in the system settings and it just shows 687 MB used for the month, the highest usage app is facebook with just a little over 100 MB used.
Now here's some facts:
Running Ditto Note 3 v 3.2 (android 4.3) (based on XXUEMK9) (Baseband: N7100XXUEMJ9)
Never used tethering this month
I always keep 3G off at night and when I'm on WIFI
How do I find out what could have caused all this data usage?
The detailed connections report from the carrier will come in 2 months so I can't know anything yet from that, I'd like to try and figure out something now.
I will be getting a data plan upgrade that will allow me 500 more MB for the month but I'm afraid that if I don't do something fast I might end up wasting all the data again, for now I'm planning of clean flashing the newest release of the rom but I'd like to know if there is some app that will let me monitor data usage in a more detailed way as it seems the built-in android graph doesn't record this hidden data that was used.

Auto sync is already off actually, I always do it manually (actually forget to do it manually), it should show up in the graph if it the culprit were auto sync
Check to see if photo syncing is enabled, google photo's, picassa etc.
I would also do a malware scan with a decent scanner like ESET.

The operator confirmed that the 5 GB have been used, I must wait 2 months to obtain detailed reports though.
Still, something has to have happened on the phone, if it's the operator I have no way of proving it.

Maybe they have to prove the data is consumed by you.
Try to shut off the phone and remove the battery all night for a few days.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobidia.android.mdm this app will tell you how much data you've used each day and whether it was wifi or mobile plan also give a detailed usage of each app data consumption and this doesn't register the same as what our phone does,it works independently,i've used this app when i was on ICS when detailed data consumption wasn't availble in ICS and then checking my carrier's consumption bill there were only 4-5 mb differences between what the app had registered and what the carrier had. install this for the time being till your month renews and starting the next billing cycle you'll have a better idea about your monthly usage

Thanks for the suggestion!
Turns out that it was all the carrier's fault because it happened to several people at the same time, I was just the first to report it so they didn't know about it.
In the end there was nothing with the ROM, the data the system reported was exactly what I used, no more no less.

When does the official Lollipop update push over the air?

I'm reluctant to root and install a custom ROM. When does the official Lollipop update push over the air for our Nexus 7 (2013) WiFi?
It's being pushed right now, but gradually.

What does gradually mean? :silly: Just kidding.
The availability was supposed to be November 12th. By now, all Nexus 7 owners were supposed to receive the update.

Waiting here as well for my nexus 7 2013...... (but my brother received two days ago on his nexus 7 2012).
I have two Nexus 7 2013's each on different Google accounts and to date '0 for 2' on this update. Phantomware to me so far. Tick-tock...
Same here... No Lollipop yet.
Still no update here yet in UK... Yet my missus got her update on her nexus 7 2012 few days ago
Yep. My old 2012 Nexus 7 got it a couple of days ago, my Nexus 5 got it a few hours after that, but still waiting on my new Nexus 7.
You can backup your existing data on your Nexus 7, then flash the Stock Factory Image that Google provided and install and enjoy... The first boot though takes 5-7 mins.. Restore your personal Data, NOT the data partition.. Lollipop handles the file structure a tad differently..
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Edit: when installing a factory image, it completely wipes your device, verses an OTA..
If you look hard enough you can find someone who has posted the OTA here on XDA..
But if you are rooted, using Xposed, Custom Kernel, or a Custom recovery you will not be able to update..

This misses the point of having a Nexus. This is XDA I am sure people know they can flash it. The point of a Nexus is to get the updates right away from google. I have other devices which I flash roms on but bought a Nexus for the pure google experience.

There is trick, I forgot how or what.. But it resets the Google cache, and you hammer on update and sometimes rather than not.. the update would pop up.. Someone please remind me of how that is done, I just find the OTA here and sideload it, or install the Factory image..
They are rolling the updates in certain areas in a controlled manor so if something really bad pops up that can stop it from hitting every device at once
If you've never seen this , give it a read, explains why the OTA may have not reached your device yet.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1r1dz4/44_kitkat_has_started_rolling_out_on_the_n4/cdiwt6f
Rollouts are conducted in phases. Typically they start at 1% of devices for around 24 - 48 hours; we watch the return rates and resulting device checkins and error reports (if any), and make sure nothing looks wrong before sending it to more. Then typically it goes to 25%, 50%, 100% over the course of a week or two.
What the percentages mean is that when your device checks in, it has a 1% chance (for example) of being offered the OTA. If it doesn't (randomly) get an offer, it will never get an offer until the next batch.
IOW, once your device checks in and gets turned down, that's it until the next batch. Mashing on the "check for updates" button just causes your device to check in again, and get automatically turned down again.

A google engineer replied to this on reddit
"Doing this changes the primary ID by which Google knows your device. As far as the servers are concerned, the device was basically factory reset. There are many downstream effects of this, but a big one is that this invalidates the tokens used by any app that uses GCM (which is nearly all the Google apps, and a ton of third-party apps.)
How apps react to GCM IDs changing varies by app. With Play Store you have to log out and log back in, I think Gmail usually handles it transparently eventually but won't get new mail notifications for a while, etc. Some apps you may have to clear data on to recover. All apps will simply stop getting GCM push-messages, until they get a new GCM ID; some do this frequently, others rarely, and some apps use the GCM ID as an ID on their own servers (as it is opaque and basically random), so other things besides push messages may not work.
Nothing bursts into flames, but it makes a ton of nuisances on the device, including some that can look pretty mysterious. Your mileage will vary depending on what apps you use.
All of this can be avoided by just doing an 'adb sideload' if you are impatient."

Still No 5.0.1 Update?

Hello, all!
I was just wondering if anyone else is still waiting on the 5.0.1 update for their Moto 360? I have been anxiously awaiting the update on mine and have yet to receive it. I have been checking like mad manually via the phone, but it just keeps telling me that it is up to date . There are some items in the new update that I am really wanting to take advantage of. I was just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat. Thanks in advance.
Yup same here. I check every few hours via the 360 About screen and still nothing.
I'm still waiting. I have tried everything and have just given up.
Nada.
Same here, no luck
I've received the update on my OPO but my watch is exactly like it was before the update. Is there an additional step I'm leaving out?
There is a post with the update file but as I don't have the cable to connect I can't manually update it.
Is there any way to send this file to my phone to the android wear update cache so it can upload automatically to Moto 360?
I'm in the same boat. No update for anything. Tried the tricks but nothing. Anxiously waiting and keep checking. Frustrating

Still waiting too. It's annoying to have to reset your watch multiple times, uninstall apps, clear caches, and whatever else just to get it. That's not something I'm not willing to do anymore after the last update.

Well...I guess it is somewhat of a relief to know that I am not the only person waiting. I am just not understanding why it is taking so long to get the update pushed out to everyone. I certainly do not want to go the path of making a cable and modifying the watch to get it to work. I guess I will just have to wait, but it is frustrating . Thank you to all that have replied. Here's to hoping we all receive the update, soon!!!
I haven't received the update either. But seeing as so many others have not as well, I won't panic. I'm sure it will be available soon enough.
Seriously guys, don't waste valuable time resetting, clearing data etc. That does not work. It's just pure coincidence. This who claim it worked for them, in all likelihood it was just due for them.
Yeah I'm in the same boat. Sucks because I was usually one of the first to get updates on this
Still waiting here too... btw, is it just me or is that "system update" button in the 360's settings menu just there for show? I mean it doesn't even bother checking for updates when you press it, it just says instantly you're on the latest software. I even disabled all the data connections and checked for updates, it did exactly the same. Someone's having a laugh with that.
No update for me too
But today my android wear app update to 1.0.5 and still no 360 update.
I'm a little confusing because on the 360 says my android wear version is 1.0.1.15...and play services 6.5.90
Don't have it either. I hate staged roll outs ?
Yup.
Same here, no update yet.
Glad to see I'm not alone!
On my watch
Android version is 1.0.1.1526154
Google Play Service 6.1.74 (1511752-534)
On phone
Android version is 1.0.5.1630507
Google Play Service 6.5.99 (1642632-438)
I'm on Nexus 6 and still no update.

Question on update server

After updating to build G891AUCU2APK2 on November 24, I notice that if you check the update server it immediately says no updates available. If you checked before twice in one day for example, it would say you had to wait xxx hours before checking again. Could someone who actually did the update check and see if their phone is doing the same thing. I had to advance the data to get the update, but I reset it to correct date and back to auto after updating.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
I believe you have to be on Wifi to check for an update, but could be wrong on that.
It is on WiFi. What is happening now after the update is when you go to check for updates, it immediately says system is up to date. It is an instantaneous response, i. e., no spinning while it supposedly checks the server for an update. I am wondering how I'll ever get future updates if it really isn't checking the server. There would have to be a lag while it checks the server plus it does not say check again in xxx hours no matter how many times you check. So, I got the update, but now I'm screwed I guess for future updates.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
I would clear the cache/data of the update app via Application Manger, and then reboot.
If you mean the AT&T software update app, the clear data and cache options are grayed out. I cleared the entire system cache partition, but that did nothing.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
OK, according to AT&T, this is now normal behavior. No more "check back in 24 hours" messages and if your software is up to date, you'll get an immediate response that software is up to date. When an update is actually available, it will connect to the server at that time for download. Rep said they have changed the whole procedure for updates and they should come faster. There will be a couple of small updates in December prior to Nougat they said.
