App for monitoring awake time and a battery saving browser.. - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I rooted my H815 v10c. And I installed Gsam. After a day of normal usage it says that I have about 1.5 hrs of awake time, but nothing more specific, regarding the app that causes it. Is there an app that lists out what kept my phone awake? Is this even a problem to have that much time as awake time? Or is it normal? Gmail sync off, I only get notifications from facebok, i use it with Facebook chat enabler and that's about it.
I also installed wake lock detector but I can't see a section for apps that could have kept my phone awake or actually did.
The other thing. I didn't want to open another thread for it:
I noticed that Chrome, the stock browser and dolphin eats up 5% in 10 to 15 minutes, where chrome is the most hungry. It's horrible to see every minute or two 1% battery loss.
I found out that opera mini uses the same 5% in 36 minutes. (I tested them at home, on the same brightness level of about 25-30% using WiFi.)
My question, how come that opera uses only that much battery? And, is there another browser that is the same, or better or just a bit worse on the battery than the opera mini, but a bit more optimized or more fluid?
I tried UC mini and apus browser, but they're no good... I quite like the stock browser and chrome too, but I hate their battery management.. If there's no alternative, I'll stick to opera mini.

Don't use gsam. It seems unaccurate every once in a while and plus that app takes 20 to 30 percent battery life too. Use betterbatterystats and wake lock for rooted devices which is way better.

Thanks. I uninstalled gsam
I have wakelock detector. Is it also good. Betterbatterystats is not free.
What should I look for then? (that shows me if i have an app that keeps my phone awake)

Better battery stats is free for xda users. You can find the topic here.

[Q] Is it normal

Hi guys,
I'm all new to Android, having previously used the TG01, moving to DHD is such a right decision and honesty think i may not use winmo ever again.
However, I notice something weird (or at least I think it is) one of which is my free Ram at boost is only 3xx Mb. Considering I have 768 Mb RAM, am I supposed to have around 700 Mb at boot??? or is that the way Android work??. Also note that I use Advanced task killer to see that number since I don't know where to know my available free Ram (noob?). Do you guys have the same amount of Free Ram at boot?
Lots of apps like yahoo messenger, internet browser.. which I do not how to properly close them (I press either home or back keys). They keeps running in the background and even after using advanced task killer to close them, they are amazingly still there. Do I suck or again is it how Android works.
Also, after 3 full charging cycle, unplugging at 7 am, having around 30 mins gaming, wifi on all the time but sometimes not connected, 3g all the time, Yahoo messenger running in background, some mails (not automatically syncs), messages, calls and about half an hour web surfing, it rests in peace at 4.30 pm. Is it normal or Do I have faulty battery. Forgot to mention I set back light at 30%.
Again, if the thread duplicates please accept my apology. I did do some search but have not found info I need. I'm all new to android so any help would do.
Cheers,
Hi,
This is how Android works. Task killers are a waste of time, your phone will use more resources just loading the apps back into memory.
As for the battery, do you need to keep wifi on all day? There is your problem. Turn it off.
Try JuiceDefender from the Android Market. You will certainly notice a battery improvement using it.

Removed task killers and installing Juice Defender, hope to see improvement there.
Well, the DHD in all its awesomeness is always gonna miss one thing:Good battery life. Not because it sucks much power or something, but the battery is the smallest I've seen on a high-end device, and, considering the huge screen(which uses from 60% up to 85% of the battery),it won't do really well. However it's not so bad either!I for one, after some charging cycles(I have it about a month now)get much better battery life.Taken off charge at 8am,usage varying depending on the day(eg I don't use it much at school),I still have enough battery at night(around midnight)to play some games for a while and listen to music.Brightness is always full! Can't accept lower with this screen!

With JuiceDefender activated, wifi on occasionally, 3G and Yahoo messenger all the time, 1 hour game, about 30 mins calls and some text, my phone was dead after 10 hours.
Really depressed, I read in battery thread this trick:
Quote from santu001
The official battery trick from HTC tells us to first charge 8 hours or more, then 1 hour while off, boot and let it settle for two minutes, turn off and charge another hour.
I'm on the fourth day since i've done this. After i did this, i deactived all appkillers (advanced taskkiller i.m.c.). Letting the system balance itself as quoted in one of my earlier posts.
I'm on the fifth day after calibration now and have 35% left after 21 hours since last plugin. I didn't turn off anything. I can see through current widget log it's still been very active from -3ma till -30ma in standby, no spikes though. For now i'm getting increased batterlife.
Default phone battery monitor results
Juice left 35%
Screen 39%
Mobile standby 20%
Phone inactive 18%
Speach 7%
Wifi 7%
Android system 4%
Android OS 3%
com.htc launcher 2% (Even though a lot of apps still loaded in BG)
Does anyone try that one?? Does it really improve your battery life (i do not understand the logic though)
keep in mind also, 250mb of ram is dedicated to adreno as vram, so the device only has just over 500mb of usable ram

Be patient young Padawan!
On my Diamond(good old days...well,maybe not so good! )the situation was about the same and it took the battery a little more than a month to give me its full potential. This might be the case here too.Don't judge it just yet.Except it's faulty of course!
Anyway, there is always a chance that a badly coded app is doing something nasty with your device. You might want to install system panel(very useful app, both one of the best task killers I've used and a really good system monitoring app) from market. It will show you if any app is using your ram or cpu too much.If one does, try uninstalling it and see what happens.
Hope you solve your problem!

Battery life seems terrible for me.. help!

I tend to lose about 1% (or a teeny bit more) an hour while on Wi-Fi. I know this is not normal, since others in this forum have reported half a percent loss per hour. Look at my screenshots!
Usually Google Voice never shows up in the battery stats, so I don't know why it did now. I only received about 10 texts... it stayed awake for 13 minutes Never happened before, but the battery drain was always like this.
And then there is Android OS.. 1h 25min?!!?
I have sync enabled for: Calendar, Contacts, Google Play Books, Internet, and Gmail (2 accounts for Gmail, the rest are 1 account). I receive no more than 10 emails a day.
And I'm pretty sure Facebook & Messenger shouldn't be waking up the device that much!
The kernel wakelocks seem crazy...

I think that you have already answer your question. I mean why do you have to have all those apps , sync enable? I use all those and wifi, facebook, tagged i play games watch movies and music video and when i get home i still have juice in the batt to keep on.
What you have to do is customizing your settings (enable sync only on interval) or yet better, look for a battery saving apps like 2x battery.

Well I know this is not a lot compared to what others have. Google Voice I use for texting; this is the first time it has stayed awake so long. Usually it's tiny. Facebook & Messenger don't sync. From what I know, this isn't a lot of syncing. I know this phone can do much better. Android OS and all those kernel wakelocks aren't normal, and aren't caused by Facebook or GV..
Battery saving apps shouldn't be necessary. I've seen many others get much better battery life without them & with FB.
Your problem is buried under the third attached picture, the "Kernal Wakelocks". Since you have turned on wifi for the whole time, it generated a couple of bad wakelocks, wlan rx wake, hsic. I think these wakelocks were due to poor signal reception. Also the crap facebook app drains a lot of battery.
In order to make Facebook not consume any background cpu, you have to go into the app and logout under settings each time. I all together just ended up getting rid of FB.
Your problem is obviously in the kernal wakelocks. Figure out what the top ones relate to and try to reduce them.
I've definitely noticed faster battery drain when I'm logged into Facebook or Google+. I strongly recommend to myself to stay logged out of those services when I'm not looking at the phone.
yeah all those apps like fb and google+... I never install the apps, I just use chrome to login... simples
7% battery use in 8.5 hours is not "terrible" by any way, shape or form. That's plenty on target for a decent 2-3 days of use between charges; about average for the GN2.
There's nothing wrong here, at all.

Exactly. I was so astonished when i opened the thread and read that hes losing 1% per hour...mine drains faster and i still get 8hrs on screen time with +24 hrs uptime..

Are you sure? I don't get 8 hours screen on like this in a 24h period. More around 6hours and it's mostly simple things like web browsing, reading comics, news, instant messaging, and some video playback.
I guess I'll remove FB for a day and see how it goes...

Facebook drains my battery.

After I've noticed my battery can't last for more than 3 hours, I decided to upgrade from ARHD 18.1 to ARHD 19.2 and remove Sense. Phone is faster and it seemed like the battery was doing better, but then it started again with all the sudden decreases: it goes from 35% right down to 25% all of a sudden and stuff like that.
I drained the battery and the phone was shut down and I let it charge all night, when I unplugged it in the morning it went down to 99% right away and then didn't touch it for 29 minutes, that's when I turned on the screen and saw it went down to 90% without even touching it!!! I checked what took so much battery and it showed Facebook with 50%, and I haven't even opened Facebook today. Moreover, Facebook wasn't even opened in Task Manager so how come it drains battery?
Thank you.

It drains because its set to sync your contacts and you feed as well as send notifications for things such as wall posts and messages all of which it needs to check for.
On the drop when unplugged that's normal, the phone charges to 100%, it will still show 100% but it lets it drop to 95% then charges back up this stops the battery from being overcharged.

Ok that's good to know, but 10% within 29 minutes of being idle? That's way too much! How do I prevent it from syncing and such?
Open the app and go to settings. Turn off syncing in there.
Edit : I also turned off autosync in the settings - sync menu of the phone

It doesn't work; I turned off autosync for all apps, turned off any notifications whatsoever on Facebook, and it still drains my battery when idle.
Have you tried using greenify to hibernate it?

Come again? You just spoke Chinese man.
Maybe a good alternative to try out. Uninstall the facebook app and use the mobile site for a while !
Have you checked betterbatterystats to see if something else is draining your battery? I used to use the Facebook app and it drained some battery, but nowhere as rampant as you mentioned.
To be fair though I've been using the Facebook No locations apk in the android themes and apps section, hated how it would turn my GPS on every time I opened it.
I still got notifications if I turned off all syncing and location reporting in the app etc. Lastly, you could try SLK notifications for Facebook.
A simple app that hardly drains any battery life (well on my s3 is used about 2% over a 24 usage cycle). All it does is notify you when you have a notification. You can set it to open in the Facebook app (for example if you greenified it) or you can set it to take you to the Facebook webpage or an alternative Facebook app.

I've uninstalled Facebook when it was 89% and it took about an hour to go down to 85% idle and when I installed it again every five minutes I turned on the screen and it was one percent less till it got down to 71% and now I uninstalled again and it lasts more. It's definitely the Facebook that drains my battery.
Edit: ok wait, no.. I've used it for like 40 seconds and it was 71% and now it's gone down to 66% right away, what the hell is wrong with this?! I ****ing hate this phone!
Why hate the phone? It's the Facebook app you should hate As suggested by chirag, use the app Greenify. It hibernates the apps that you choose, that means it stops it from running in the background and consuming data.

facebook also drains battery on my HTC One.
uninstalled it and the battery improved by miles. it also charged faster.
yeah facebook always runs in the background...if you need to stay connected to chat use ebuddy which is more battery effiecient
best thing now is to greenify it.its greenified in my phone (get greenify from play store)
also...check your mA with battery monitor widget while its in sleep it should not exceed -50 mA while the phone is in sleep with all autosynce and wifi off

i think the facebook app always runs and connects to internet and keeping something on always awake , maybe the radio.
something is wrong with the facebook official app, even though after disabling notifications, they still come through
Also the Facebook Messenger causes a ****load of wakeups...same with Facebook app. Definitely a huge battery drainer! Tried out the messenger for 2 days...unplugged the phone this morning. After 45 minutes i checked battery life by using better battery stats and the messenger had alreday caused 27 wakeups without even using it!!

[Q] Flash APK Problem and Battery Question

Hello. This is the place I found out about getting Flash on the Nexus 7.
I installed the APK from here, and it kind of works, but the speed is running about 2x or 4x faster than it should be. Also, if I try to fullscreen a video, it usually fails to load, even when it played when small. When I exit fullscreen, the video then fails to play and the whole webpage and browser kind of freeze up. This happens on Dolphin as well as Firefox and Boat. Is this just because it is an unsupported app, or what?
As far as the battery, I think it is draining faster than it should. I've disabled NPC, auto-sync, turned my brightness to the minimum, disabled Bluetooth, and keep Wi-Fi off when I'm not using it. My battery life seems okay I guess when I have it on, but last night, when I turned my Nexus 7 completely off (not sleep), about 12 hours later when I turned it back on, the battery had gone from 54% to 50%. Is that normal for it to lose 4% while off, in less than a day? I email Google and they said the battery is fine unless it doesn't charge.
The only widgets I have running are the Power Toolbar, and Simple Calendar.
Thank you!

Battery Consumption Too High

Hello Guys and Gals,
Its been awhile since i have been on here. But i have been very satisfied with my Note4. However. It had come to a point that carrying 4 batteries with me to make it through the day was too much.
Here i am . Finally upgraded to the 8+ and overall. I am very dissapointed.
So. i would like some input on what changes you have done, as well as apps running, how much you use the device, your daily connections. and so on.
i have:
Bluetooth always on, connected to my Gear S2
Location services always on
I am a big social media junky, on FB, and IG, not too much of Snapchat.
I use Line to talk to my group that i game with
I play Transformers Earth Wars, about 15 minutes at a time a few times a day.
Do not use bixby
Screen display is set at Amoled Cinema, HD resolution, auto brightness is turned off stays between 30-60%
Very Rarely use WiFi
Google apps do not auto Update
USB Debugging
3 gmail accounts linked, sync is off
Anything else just ask,
So after my 8hr shift of work, my phone is at about 40%, my Note4 on would almost make the whole day, i would get to about 20%, then i would switch batteries.
I am not happy with the battery. Just seems like for no reason it is draining.
Comment below, let me know your setting, impressions, and so on.......... Maybe im doing something wrong and dont realize it.
Well your first problem is all the social media apps, pretty much all of them just destroy battery life. When your not using those apps I would put them to sleep.
You need to monitor which apps are draining the battery. You can do this through the stock device mait. app. Once you find out which apps are causing the drain we can go from there.
I use standard mode, screen on WQHD, sync always on, all data no wifi, screen at 50 % or higher. No social media apps, I use the browser for those.
Here's some screen shots of battery life, this is and average battery cycle, I have reached over 9hrs of Screen on time (SOT) and 1.5 days in previous cycles.

Believe it or not sometimes that consumes more battery life having to open the app every time vs just letting it run in the background. Probably not true with social media apps but it's worth a try. You may also want to try a package disabler app from the play store to disable apps you don't use that run in the background. I use BK package disabler.
