Why I can't install the system updates (lollipop) on my phone?
I was rooting the phone and I installed the SuperSU. After this process when I click to install the updates, the phone reboot but enter in the recovery move and I am not able to install the updates. Everytime that reboot is entering in the Team Win Recovery Project. If I try to install the zip updates from there it is not possible.
Could you help me?
Thanks in advance
You need stock recovery and stock ROM to install OTA's.

You can try this stock recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=5178
I could do the 1st update after flashing this stock recovery which was about 59 mb ,but with the 2nd update (about 160 mb) I couldn't
I tried everything back to stock and re-lock with no luck always stuck at red triangle then restart
I think it's because of the root (tampered) at Hboot.
I searched a lot but nothing can help only flashing stock ruu and there is no official one yet, so still waiting>>>
Try this and wish you luck
P.S.
You can take a stock recovery from the update ZIP itself
you will find it in the downloads folder after download and before install
copy it to your computer open it >firmware > recover.img
I also have some concerns before downloading the update...do i have to restore the stock recovery before installing the updates? by the way heres mine
I installed a stock recovery to update to 4.4.4 OTA. I then installed TWRP(openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-m8) through fastboot and attempted to install the super SU zip 2.00.
The file seemed to install properly as it gave me no errors, but I did not have root access when booting into the phone. I then tried CWM recovery (recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.8-m8). CWM installed the super SU 2.00 zip without any errors as well, but warned me before reboot that my root access was not found, I selected the option that "fixes" that, but still I am without root.
I like the 4.4.4 features but I don't want to be without root, please help me guys.
Let me know if you guys figure anything out for the stock rom. I just jumped on the latest cyanogenmod nighty till I figure this out.
Do you have s-off?
You should definitely get s-off as it makes everything so much easier.
But in the meantime, I would download the sunshine.apk and run it. It will reboot your phone and ask you to confirm and enter PayPal info. I believe your phone at this point has a soft root. If you now run superSU and allow it to install the binary, you should have root.
Hi, I have a Nexus 5X with unlocked bootloader and with rooted. Since some days ago, I have a notification with a security update, but with the custom recovery it is not automatically installed.
Is there any way to install this OTA updates?
If you install TWRP (which you should, IMHO), it is easy. I'm not at all experienced, but I did it without losing any data. But with TWRP, you can do a full backup first. Everything I've done came from this single guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206930

The updates will not install on a rooted phone. Updates check if your software is stock and if not it will not update, includes recovery partition. Your best bet is to just update the ROM you're on. The ROM developer typically updates his base on a regular basis especially if it's one of the more active ones like Pure Nexus or Chroma among others.
If you really need Google updates to happen then you must go back to stock image and updates will work then.
Edit #2: If you are rooted but stock w/ TWRP, just unroot and flash stock recovery and the updates will work or you can ADB sideload the update zip w/ TWRP.

The link I provided has explicit instructions. I remembered wrong, though. You don't need TWRP, you need to do it in Fastboot mode, so you need to find the latest Fastboot program, or install the Android SDK. Then follow step 10 in the link I provided.
Hi, i have an acer t07 device. When I try to update my phone through ota, which is 400mb, during the installation it fails. And then i have to download again the update. Is there a way to backup or save the downloaded files so it wont download again? Without root if possible. And also, custom recovery does not still work for my last-year-released device. Thanks

If your device rooted or custom recovery installed then can't flash OTA update because of modifications in system partition. OTA check system if found any modification then OTA update abort.

Hello everyone,
I have purchased my OnePlus 5T, and I absolutely love it! I was just wondering whether I could root while retaining the stock ROM and recovery and still get the OTA updates in the usual way? I don't mind staying with OxygenOS and stock recovery I would just really like root access while keeping updates!
Would appreciate a quick answer,
Thankyou in advance,
Nathan.
I would unlock the bootloader and backup the default recovery. Then flash twrp and boot in to it and flash Magisk for root. Then flash the default recovery back.
Why? If you root your phone, then incremental OTA updates will more than likely get broken. That means, once you root, you will just need to apply the full update for each OTA. If you have TWRP installed, then you just download the fill update.zip file, and flash the update.zip and root.zip packages and be on your way.
when an update comes out just dirty flash the full zip once released, i thought u could still install OTA even with TWRP, u just can't with root and a modified system, can't u just uninstall magisk, then do the update then reinstall magisk?
Exactly. As soon as you modify the system (whole point of root), incremental OTAs will not work. Just dirty flash the full OTA via TWRP and profit.
