I just unrooted my S3 to be able to update to the stock 4.4 rom using QBKings method. However, after doing this I went into the stock recovery just to make sure it was there and all and on the screen is a dead android with a red triangle. I did a quick google search but can't find anything about this.
What's causing the dead android symbol? The phone boots fine and other than that symbol the stock recovery seems to work so i don't understand why it's there.
Thanks in advance, I know this is a now outdated device but I still love it and want to figure out what's going on.

So here goes, when I'm trying to find my kernel version all I get is 2.6.35.11, with no other information whatsoever. I reset it to factory settings (I bought it used off of ebay) to see if that may help and there was no such luck. So I took the liberty of taking a screenshot hoping that would you might be able to help me This is only my second android device (my first was a g1 that I rooted back when texts entered information into the terminal) so be gentle.

Now I'm not sure what to do at the moment, but any help would be awesome. I would really like to root my phone so I can get all this garbage software off of it. Thanks guys!
Not sure what you are trying to accomplish, you are running 2.3.5 as your android version, you can use SuperOneClick to root it ...
Or you can Use Odin to flash a custom recovery , and root it ...
and then you can install whatever custom ROM you want as long as it is compatible with your phone ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582 easiest way to root your phone
I was going to try and link you to the method I found but I found something on AndroidNZ that I thought would work. I'm sorry if this sounds like a stupid thread, I'll try the things you guys just mentioned.
I was planning on unlocking and rooting and putting on CWM today, but before I did that went into fastboot, just to see what the screen look like before.
So I decided to see what stock recovery in case i need to go back and exchange for some reason so I know it normal, and when I get into stock recovery all I see is a little green cylinder with a red !
I cannot do anything, if i hit any of volume keys nothing happens.
eventually somehow I get phone to reboot by holding power down. I have tried this twice and get the same thing.
I would assume I would see some form of text? like restore factory default or something?
just flash CWM..... you can reinstall stock recovery by flashing stock google images... you'd do that anyway if you ever wanted to return it for warranty purposes to get rid of custom ROMs etc
stock recovery will look something like this (not exactly because this is from a OLD phone but you get the idea)

Thanks.
I finally did figure it out in case anyone needs this as well.
Once get to screen with exclamation point hold power down first then hit volume up. Has to be in that order.
After that you get blue menu with 4 different options.
But like you said all moot once I put CWM on it.

Ok... so I'm not a n00b and I know what I'm doing, I just don't exactly know how to recover from this. I think the only time I've ever had this problem was a hardware issue with my Evo4G.
I flashed my nightly for 9/6/13 CM10.2 and now it won't boot to recovery or Rom. Both won't get past the splash screen. Download loads fine. It says I have custom binary and one flash on the flash counter (I use Triangle Away).
Once I can get into recovery, I should be ok... just need to get there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Whell maybe you can adb into recovery from a computer or if you cant figure that out just odin back to stock and start over
If you like my work or I have helped you press thanks

It is a known issue that that nightly doesn't boot. Just put a ROM or working nightly on your sdcard (if you have one) and just flash it over or clean flash. Your choice. As long as you can get into recovery, no big deal.

I think you forgot to check your link to the picture.
IT'S NOT WORKING.
Since you give no details at all about your odin issue
no one can help.
Good luck!
Sorry didn't see that until now should be fixed
Might be a bad/incomplete/corrupt download. Try downloading again or use this link:

If you Odin correctlywith good files, it works. Also, uncheck the Auto Reboot box. When done,, disconnect and pull the battery. Boot into recovery manually (power/home/volume up).
Hey I just did emergency upgrade with Kies and got my phone perfect stock but now when im in a phone call the person i'm talking to cannot hear me unless my speaker phone is on ... when its off my voice is soo low or not even there at all
I am running stock 4.3 rooted. When I rooted I installed custom recovery. My phone has been choppy lately so in hopes that it would make my phone run smoother I tried to go into recovery (first time in ages) to wipe cache and dalvik. When I tried to go into recovery I got a "no commend' error and then regular stock Android recovery started. In the background was a dead android robot with a "!" symbol coming out of him.
I wiped cache with stock recovery and then selected the reboot option. The phone didn't reboot, I got "error!" message and that was it. I powered down, restarted and everything is back to the way it was. But what happened to my custom recovery? What should I do at this point to get it back?
Only thing I can think of is at some point I accidentally clicked on the OTA update notification. So my phone tried and failed to update because I'm rooted. Could that cause problems? What should I do?
Just Odin Philz Recovery
