AROMA Installer Kernel for CM10 & MTP FLAC Support? - LG Optimus G (International)

Hi I wanna get something out of this waste of money so far it's really not too good.
Only 5MP camera and as soon as you start using it sometimes I'll lose 10-20% in 5-10 minutes of use on battery.
Is it capable of more than 5MP?
Can anyone point out a customizable kernel with very effective DEEP SLEEP?
It appears to never go to sleep so when the screen is off the battery drains very quickly. Battery usage says idle 0% and it spends most of the time screen off. So the factory kernel is just a huge pile of crap. My HTC ONE has been on for 15 days NOW!!! Use it doing the same tasks with it's equal 2GB Ram, Quad-Core it loses 5% in 25minutes of use. It also is only down to 5% now at 15 days and counting...
I'd like to listen to FLAC audio on my SAMSUNG 64GB MicroSD Card yet it won't put up with it at all... LG's like no no you people don't need more than 320kbps... I have more FLAC than MP3 for a reason.
So I'd like to load some music and videos on there like .mp4 1080p videos/ movies & a bunch of FLAC AUDIO. I mean that's why I bought the 64GB MicroSD Card...
Any advice or do I need to just buy a SAMSUNG?
THANKS

How long will the battery last when playing .mp4 files?

I've got a 10 hour flight coming up soon and the in-flight movie selection is just awful. As such, does anyone know if I could get 10 hours mp4 playback out of a fully charged phone when it is is airplane mode?
Many thanks
Spud
I wouldn't like to say that you would definitely get 10hrs out if it, but I'm sure you'll get 5+. I often watch say 2 to 3 hours of video on my Desire at the end of a full day (all radios on etc, medium usage) and then charge up before I go to sleep.
For a long flight though, I would suggest getting an external battery pack or second battery anyway just to be sure.

Dave

How many hrs of movies/music?

Ok, i've heard about the battery performance of desire. I'm planning to get one anyway, but I wonder how many hrs of movies/music can I enjoy before the battery runs out.
Up (until I get some answers).
Nobody watches movies on desire? C'mon!
RockPlayer is not doing very well
On my 3 previous WinMo HTCs, I could watch several movies before the battery was depleted.
I've installed RockPlayer and after 90' of watching the same type of movie files, I lost 60% of a fully charged battery and that is way too much.
I'm going to look around for another player and see how well it does.
After 130 views, at least somebody replied. Thanks man, I really appreciate it. Is that coming from a 100% charge? It seems galaxy s is the way to go for heavy multimedia.. it's the desire however that I want in my pocket.

DivX using Rockplayer is definitely not as battery efficient as H264 - I can get 4/5 hours out of H264 encoded video, with some battery to spare.
Regards,

Depends really, with the radio turned off I get maybe 4-5 hours maximum.
I watched a XviD movie on my Desire 90 minutes and was at 71% when the movei was over.
Well I have encoded some Tom and Jerry movies and a lot of the pixar stuff, but I encoded it to low mp3 quality.. But the quality is still very good. My son can watch two full dvd movies and I an still on eighty percent..... I use act to watch them. The low quality is extremely battery friendly.....
3G off, Screen Brightness maximum.. 4 hours and used up only 20%! I dont really know but I seem to be getting very good battery life compared to others! I love my Desire!

4h of movies and still on 80%...? Hard to imagine how that could be possible... never saw a phone that would make up to 20h of movie playback...

Woah. Well, he himself wonders why. So, on the average everyone can seem to watch at least 2 movies. Not bad.
Please include your player with your posts
Those that claim > 4 hours of playback, what player do you use?
I use RockPlayer, which I find inferior to the TCPMP player I used on my WinMo phones.
I use ACT for playback and recoded files. The files are recoded on purpose in a low quality (but still very watchable) and during playback I had only 15 to 20 % processor activity. Wich is very low. That's how I get the good numbers.
I suspect that when i play a full 750 MB MP4 my proc would eat a lot more power giving me less playback time. But since they average from 180 to 230 MB in size only, the proc does a lot less processing and thus uses up less juice.......
Well I only have 250-350 mb movies as I convert them to mkv or rmvb cos they take up less space too much music :/

Travel a lot. So watching movies on my Desire is very more or less mandatory.
I am able to run 6-7 hours, but battery after is 10%, just enough to make some calls and be on standby before charging.
And that is now after battery calibration and applying POWERSAVING MODPACK. Maybe placebo, but before I was able to handle max 3.5-4h hours and actually had to buy a spare battery to cope with my travel requirements.
I am using RockPlayer, auto brightness. Playing video without any conversion, just download from torrents unzip and play on phone and only SD videos, no HD (I do believe RockPlayer is not able to handle it).

[Q] Music, battery stuff.

So I never use my phone for my music, I just use my two year old, fifth generation 16gb ipod nano, and of course, due to Apple's poor build quality, it's life is coming to an end, buttons not working, battery getting worse, etc. I was wondering how much battery life is affected by playing music on the Incredible, does it really drain it, does it barely make a dent? Once the Rezound comes out, I'll probably be using that as my music player, since I also have an app that'll let me put my itunes music into my phone, but I don't want to have a worse battery life because of it.
When I use my phone for Pandora, my battery gets tanked within a few hours of constant use. When I use Music Beta, the battery lasts a bit longer than on Pandora. When I use the Music app and listen to music that is on my SD card or my internal memory, the battery drop is much, much less.
I primarily use my 64gb 4th gen iPod touch, but I also have a 32gb SD card in my Incredible which works quite well. It'll go for a long time, but not near as long as my iPod. Simply because it doesn't have to use a cell radio. It'll go for weeks in airplane mode though
Sorry about your iPod though, I have a 4gb second generation iPod nano from '07, and that thing is practically indestructible. Can't say the same about my 3g touch though, lasted a few days over the one year warranty :/

Thanks guys, but yeah, I wanted to know about music from the phone on the music player, so thanks. I have a huge extended battery on it anyways, so my Incredible should be fine from what you guys said. I'm just waiting on the Rezound, so I can get a pair of in ear Beats to go with my over-ear Beats. Gonna be awesome. But it seems like Apple's product quality has degenerated over the years. That sucks. Oh well, last Apple product I'll ever buy anyways.
look up bbattery saving tips to max out usage regardless of what you're doing so the drain is minimum as possible
I use music 3-4 hours a day. Usually only lose 25% battery total cause of it. But that's with poweramps extra CPU usage.
-My life is a shooting range, people never change-
I also listen to a lot of music in my Incredible, I'm using incredikernel and not too bad on battery life or anything. I can easily get a whole day out of use of my phone while listening to two out three hours of music throughout the day.

try saving more juice,6-7 hours of playback and I'm still around 80%
I use Poweramp, and it doesn't use much battery. I'm running CM7.1 with Incredikernal but so far, I'm not impressed with the raw battery saving(maybe there are some setting I haven't got it set up right), but I recently started using Juice defender Ultimate. This really works for me! On moderate use I would get about 5-6 hours normally, but with JDU, I'm getting 8-9 hours sometimes more!

[Q] Battery consumption while playing music + charging question

Might seem an odd question, but how much should I expect the battery to drain on the M8 while playing music?
Reason I ask is because I use my phone to help me sleep (brown noise) every night.
I use an app called "Chromadoze" which has been fine for me up until now.
My old Nexus 5, which I partially got rid of because of the battery life, would drain approx 25% in 8 hours using Chromadoze.
However, using the same app on the M8 drains 50% in 8 hours, which seems excessive for a phone touted as having far better battery life (and indeed it normally does under normal use).
Thinking it might be the app, I generated a (59 minute) brown noise file and converted to FLAC and copied to the phone, and set that to play on repeat. This still gave a drain equivalent to 50%. I thought the Snapdragon 801 was mean't to be very economical on the battery for music, but that ain't happening here. I even have the phone in flight mode (as always). The battery stats are telling me that indeed the "music" is to blame.
I'm disappointed with this as I could stream actual music from the cloud all night on the Nexus and get less drain than that.
The other thing thats proved to be disappointing is the time it takes to charge. I have a 2A blackberry charger that I used on my N5 that charged it in just over an hour, but this M8 takes well over 2 hours on the same charger. I realise it has a bigger battery, but its still only 10% difference and it should probably only take an extra 10 minutes or so, not double the time. Can I enable fast charging on this device, after all, the 801 again is supposed to be able to support it.
I am a tad disappointed with my move to the M8 so far because of these issues; it has better battery life overall but these issues make it significantly less useful to me.
I have such an issue with this phone, that whenever I use (so deep sleep isn't allowed) the 50% of the cpu time is always at 1036mhz, which is too much even for listening to music.
Check out by yourself, how the cpu is working, by installing cpu spy (additionally you can install wakelock detector).
If it's the cpu's fault then you may try to set custom settings (max speed) for cpu when the screen is off.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check those apps out you recommend.
My next move is to try again with the power saver turned on, and see how it goes, failing that as well, I could try without the boomsound activated, as I'm sure extra EQing will use CPU power.
I hope I can resolve it, as it will be disappointing if not, especially as I really liked the Nexus as a phone but thought this would be a nice upgrade in most respects (bar camera).
I personally think that this power saving mode just sucks, all it does is that it saves data, but not cpu, as it doesn't put apps to sleep, as stamina mode on xperia devices does.
Just make a quick test, turn on your app, then switch to cpu spy, reset the statistics (so you get statistics only while using your app) and turn off the screen and wait few minutes.

When your listening to music at night is your WiFi on and connected?
Ive noticed a strange bug on my device.
When my device is in stand by mode and wifi is connected my CPU usage never drops below 30%. I use SystemPanel Pro to check that.
Now with WiFi off and in stand by mode my CPU usage is between 3-7% with spikes to 10-15% every 20-30 minutes. To me that seems normal.
So if you do have WiFi on while its playing music for those 8 hours test it with WiFi off.
Hi, I would normally use Airplane mode, so no radios at all, unless I wanted to stream from cloud, I've not done that yet since I had the phone, though.
I've just done my first test with CPUspy as suggested, Over 35 minutes it spent 10 minutes @ 1,036 MHz and the remaining time (about 67%) @ 300 MHz.
I'm trying it again with the supposed "Power Saving" function on.
Result with Power Saving on
1,036 MHz - 7:32 - 17%
300 MHz - 24:29 - 57%
Deep sleep - 8:29 - 19%
BUT, i have a feeling the power save mode may have killed it off to go to sleep but I couldn't confirm as it hadn't occurred to me until I had messed about.
So it is slightly better provided it didn't kill the music.
All of this was with a program called "7digital" which appears to be built in. Going to try in PowerAmp next.
PowerAmp seems to look much more economical.
95% (just over an hour) spent @ 300 MHz with just 2:26 spent at 1036 MHz.
Tried my brown noise last night and it drained 34% in 6 hours. Still a pretty poor performance.
Looks like I'm going to have to try and find an alternative way to do this.
I do wonder if the Google play ROM would help as I never had a problem on the nexus 5.
Are those the statistics when your phone hasn't been used at all or was your program running at this time?
If the program wasn't running and you have such a cpu usage then it is probably some deep sleep issue (wakelock detector should help identifying the app responsible for that).
Anyway, just use some app to limit the cpu usage while the screen is off.
This phone likes to be stuck at 1036mhz and for example you could limit it to about 500mhz.
Ps. Power saving mode won't kill these apps, so don't worry.

Those statistics were with the music player 7digital running a brown noise file, but nothing else was being used on the phone.
Later I used PowerAmp which does give a more efficient performance, but sadly, still not good enough really considering my N5 was OK under the circumstances.
I find myself in two minds as to whether to try the GPE ROM anyway, as I don't find the phone as responsive as the N5 either... and maybe it will help with this issue too.

GPE (and other non-stock based ROMs) will be much faster, that's damn sure, however I don't think this will solve the problem, as HTC one m8 has some weird issue with it's CPU.
I also don't know why it's using this 1036mhz continously, but you can't go below 300mhz if the device is working (like playing music).
Tty to limit your CPU at all the time (not only when the screen is off), that should also save some battery, however the battery life is still nothing considering the one from Xperia Z1.
In case anyone is interested, I did the conversion to GPE. Much better, now feels as fast or faster than my n5, but it now charges much faster and the battery life seems as good as before. Will try and test with some music at some point in the coming week to see if there is any improvement but I have my suspicion that it won't make much difference as I think it could possibly be the more powerful output and boomsound that increases battery drain... But.... We'll see.
Final post from me on this thread.
Its been several weeks now since I've had the GPE firmware installed on my HTC One M8, and I don't regret it one bit.
The battery life is at least as good, but I possibly think better, I'm generally always averaging 4+ SOT, whereas it would be just shy of that with the Sense ROM. The phone is also noticeably quicker at all times...
Finally though, the high battery usage during music IS cured. Using the Chromadoze app I talked about in post #1 results in 20% drain in 8 hours (compared to 50% on a Sense ROM). That is much better. I also no longer wake up to a warm / hot phone. And it charges faster.
So, in summary, the GPE ROM turns the M8 into the phone it should have been since day 1. I just wish it had the Sense camera, but the stock one is perfectly usable.

Heavy use endurance

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the OnePlus 3T's battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.

One thing I noticed about the phone is that the 6gb of free ram that is bragged is really more like 4.9 gb after a reboot and 4gb after about an hour even without using the phone and I can't seem to find any apps that are eating up the ram. can someone explain why this is the case? It doesn't seem to hinder the performance at all but I haven't tried a speed test so I'm not certain.

Wow complaining about having 4gb of FREE RAM.. Mine has a total of 3gb and you have more free then mine total. You will never use that much up and run out. If your at that much free ram out of a total 6gb then I'd say it's running great. Mine usually sits at half 1.5 or a little more free but having that much RAM you'll always be sitting at more then half free cause you'd have to be eating up more then 3gb to get to half and I've never seen a phone use more then 3gb even multi tasking. Your always going to use some, kernel, apps, etc so sitting at 4gb free is great
Under heavy daily usage I get almost a full day. Thats a lot for me. All day whatsapp, calls, spotify, bt headphones, fitbit with notifications, countless hours of facebook etc.
I'm not a heavy user. But normally (without gaming), starting from 9.30 am, I put it charging at 2 am (after a day combining 70 % under 4g+ and 30% wifi, all account I have with push sync but sure I'm also working so there's a period of 8-9 hours where I use it only to quick write some whatsapp or checking notifications but after work I usually watch anime or TV series saved from Netflix) and I reach always 4-4.30 hours of screen with 20-25% still remaining. I'm really satisfied, it's a very good smartphone. And if I miss some juice, well....dash charge is the candy

that's normal, imagine phones with 3gb of ram only having 900mb free after an hour of use with no apps open.
I have two Google accounts, Facebook (with Messenger) and WhatsApp, automatic Sync always on: the battery life is not so positive as I wish it would be given the "low" resolution of the display and other battery saving settings switched on! Google Play Services and Android System eat a lot of battery all the time!!!
i cant get more then 10hours in full charge. my average is removing from charge around 6:30AM and on 3PM, its my last 5% and back to the cord. how the hell you guys can have almost entire day!? this is insane for me.
Im on my default settings out of the box with developer option doze mode enable, automatic backup is enable, autosync on, with fb mssenger, whatsapp, skype installed. My battery would last me around 16hrs of heavy usage w/ 7hrs SOT,,,, with casual use my battery would last 21hrs tops with 5hrs sot. Overnight drain of 9% in wifi and 6% in mobile data.
I tried gaming in full resolution in my oneplus 3T (my game is Mobius Final Fantasy) and I got over 6 hours game time before I hit below 10% battery. That's crazy.
