Hi guys. Im watching a brand new verizon note 4 with a bad esn. I just want to know if it will work with a att sim card from straighttalk. I currently have one on my att s5, but I want a bigger phone. I just want go make sure if because of a bad esn the phone won't work on straighttalk with an att sim card.
Thanks
It should work OK on AT&T, usually the bad ESN will only block it from Verizon's network. At least that's the way it was in the past.
You can not use a Verizon Phone on At&T's network, they use different network tech/protocols, and different LTE bands. AT&T is GSM for voice and Verizon is CDMA.

Who told you that Verizon Phone won't work on AT&T? sure it might not get LTE in most places but it will work 100% fine on EDGE,3G maybe and HSPA+. In case you didn't know since 4G LTE and Note2 all phones pretty much after Note2 are sim-unlocked.:fingers-crossed:
Verizon: 1x,3G,Voice CDMA
Verizon : LTE,VolTE GSM
Thanks guys. I'll give it try.
My note 4 just got stolen. Bad esn means you are likely using stolen property.
Maybe mine....
Thay sucks man. I hope the one I got is not stolen.

not exactly maybe someone didn't pay his/her bill and gave it to someone?
I started using my Verizon N3 on straight talk with the at&t style sim. The best I could get was H+ data. It will work, and is livable if you aren't worried about high speed. I bought a CDMA starter kit from Walmart and had straight talk switch my account to the new sim. Now I have 4GLTE everywhere. Did a Craigslist upgrade to the Verizon note 4 and still works beautifully.
I have a Note 5 from a broken Verizon contract. Wouldn't my ESN be bad?
With a Starlight Talk sim card, I got MMS and Internet, but no phone or text. I recently put an ATT Go sim card and so far everything works fine.

Well I just checked the esn on a website and it said it's a note 4 with a clear esn. But it's a note 5 with a year old broken contract with outstanding balance

I'm currently on att with a note 2 and i've switched to t-mobile and will be recieving a new phone in the mail soon. Should i return it and just flash a t-mobile rom onto my current phone? or should i just sell my att one on craigslist and keep the new t-mobile phone? Any possible loss of features or functionality by sticking with the phone i have?
Keep the tmo one.
It dosent have lte yet, so hang on to att one too I suggest but tmo has added aws band.

I don't understand your answer to the OP.
I'm in the exact same situation as the OP. I'm with AT&T but they just took my unlimited data plan away so I'm probably going to switch to T-Mobile.
Are there any bands that the T-Mobile Note 2 has that can't be unlocked on the AT&T model? According to Wikipedia both AT&T and T-Mobile version of the Note 2 have AWS. I heard that you can enable the high speed bands on AT&T's model to work with T-Mobile. Is taht not true?

Tmo hasnt released the update to let tmo gnotes2 work on their lte network, because its not up and running most places... Possibly only update customers who are in Kansas City.
Not too clear if att gnotes2 with att specific firmware would work on tmo's network. Theoretically it should work, but their might be some radio issues that give u shoddy service. Unlocking phones is illegal now, so idk if u could sim unlock ur phone through att to work for tmo anyways. Might have to go through ebay or something to do so.

Hi,
I just purchased this phone off ebay. The listing told me that it was a Sprint phone with a bad ESN that had been flashed to Vzw prepaid.

I dont even know if the phone has been flashed through VZW or not. everything ive read says that the tmobile version can be unlocked, but How can I tell if this phone is on verizon or not? will I also need a sim card?
Im scared I just purchased a giant wifi only paper weight :crying:

The tmobile version is GSM whereas sprint/Verizon are CDMA. These are 2 totally different technologies. As far as I am concerned, there is no way to run a gsm device on the cdma network or viceversa. They use different frequencies, etc.
However, I may be wrong so let's wait to see if some with a better knowledge supports my claim.

My cousin(in his youthful stupidity) is with Verizon, he has a Motorola Droid(more stupidity) and for some strange reason it has a sim slot, and it is populated with a Verizon sim. I'm not sure why, maybe they do that so they can use phones that aren't normally CDMA? But then they'd need towers and spectrum for GSM. Who knows.
I actually sold an ATT S3, unlocked to someone on ebay and they tried to use it on vzw prepaid. Of course my ad said clearly it was ATT, and unlocked. I didn't think about needing to state it would NOT work on vzw. Your situation is a bit different however.

Verizon/Sprint phones are CDMA but the new 4g LTE phones from them are using a sim card slot for the 4g LTE network ... (correct me if im wrong obviously)
on side note: wonder if anyone knows how to flash the phone to verizon unleased unlimited plan $50 unlimited everything ?
Yes, the New 4g LTE phones from Verizon and Sprint have SIM Slot, and can be unlocked to use with other Carriers just like just At&t and Tmobile phones. so Sprint/Verizon phones have both GSM and CDMA chip.
Why would you buy a bad ESN phone for $500?? BAD ESN means LOST or STOLEN Phone.
You buy a stolen phone from eBay and you're surprised you didn't get what you paid for?
Stupidity.
Well being the genius I am failed to open the phone and see the huge sprint logo there. :silly:
It seems he is just running a tmobile Jedi rom and i just looked up the device id from the phones properties.
My fault guys. But not that it is a sprint phone that has been flashed to vzw prepaid. How do I activate? the MEID number that is displayed after the #*06# does not work on the vzw site or over the phone.
I have an unlocked TMO note 3 which I installed the AT&T fingerprint on. So it looks just like the AT&T version. However, for some reason I can't get LTE speeds on it, it just says 4G. Do a search for user Mircury and his thread. I had this issue as I supplied a non ATT IMEI number to ATT, when I logged in my ATT wireless my data pack was no longer LTE but just 4G. In the end I had to supply a valid ATT IMEI number to get this working. Is this what you did?

Search eBay for an AT&T Note 3 and find an auction where the seller foolishly posts a pic of the IMEI on the box. Note that down, and then call AT&T and apply it to your account. You'll then be provisioned for Android LTE in their system. Done it a million times with no harm yet.

Or go to an ATT store and use one of their IMEI numbers. Then again, I think some of their phones do not have radios.
So if I purchase a t-mobile note 3 on ebay that has a bad imei can I still go to that website that will give you a unlock code if you have a bad imei?
Hi,
I am thinking about moving my Galaxy S4 and moto RAZR from Verizon wireless to iwireless (a t-mobile affiliate). I understand that I need to unlock my phone but I am unable to find out if I move it to iwireless if I will still have 4G data. The iwireless sales rep said that I will still have voice and 2.5G service but couldn't tell me if I would still have 4G.
I was looking at this table I found on a site explaining how to unlock the phone but I don't know enough about the subject to make an informed decision.
Samsung Galaxy S4
Can someone confirm whether or not my Verizon S4 or RAZR can be unlocked to work with the iwireless/t-mobile 4G network?

It seems as though your grasp of the subject is strong enough to know that it might work as you'd like - and it might not. You need to call back and ask to speak to a CSR that actually knows what bands their service works on so they can give you accurate information. That's kind of their job...
Also -
Verizon LTE operates on Band 13 while T-Mob operates on Band 17, both of which carry completely different spectrums; this means no LTE on either of your unlocked phones. There's a slim possibility that you will get intermittent 3G but the most likely scenario is that you will get talk, text and 2G / 2.5G only.
Band 17? My Verizon branded S4 is getting T-Mobile LTE. I'm fairly sure its on band 4.
T-mobile is band 4 which is 1700/2100 mhz. The Verizon s4 is not capable of 1700mhz. But if you are getting 4G it may be because your area is using 2100 mhz. I am specifically moving to iwireless and I was told they use the 1700 mhz band.

Yes, I think all Verizon LTE capable phones are unlocked.
The I545 (Verizon S4) can receive LTE on band 4. T-Mobile serves LTE on band 4. The coincidence works well.

My RAZR MAXX HD definitely wasn't SIM unlocked... For the life of me I couldn't get it to work when I moved to ATT from Verizon... Not even GSM would work.
I just need to get some clarification from you guys. Are your VZW phones bought in the US and being in the US on t-mobile's or iwireless's 4g network. Because after I made the first post I went to the phone unlocking place in my local mall and talked to there techs, they said that the VZW S4 will not get 4g. I have also been doing extensive searches online and keep finding half saying it will work and half saying it won't. I have a feeling that the ones that work are working outside of the US as I found posts saying as such.
I read some where that the razr you had to flash the radio FW to get GSM to work properly.

I got my vzw S4 off craigslist but 99% sure it was purchased in the USA. I'm on T-Mobile's $50/mo plan.
Verizon's LTE phones are sim unlocked due to an agreement with the FCC when vzw purchased some bandwidth.
I think there was an update around 03/2014 that enabled band 4 on the I545. Then had to make some apn changes and tell the modem to use gsm/lte on band 4.
The one quirk I have is it will say "no service" after a reboot and until I make or receive a voice call. Then I get the "T-Mobile" instead of "no service" and things work as they should.

I was just at iwireless today and tested my phone with their network and was unable to get it to work. iwireless is a t-mobile affiliate but they do not use 4G LTE in my area. Their system runs on a 3.8G 1700MHz which the VZW S4 does not have. I am told that they will be starting to switch all the 2G radios in the area to 4G LTE later this year, which should work with my VZW S4. So I am just going to have to wait till the end of the year and go back and test it again.

That phone was before VZW bought the band 4 spectrum and cut the deal with the FCC. All VZW LTE phones are SIM unlocked. Any AWS capable VZW phone is SIM unlocked and can use LTE on band 4. The S4 got it with an update last year.
I am probably going to do the $30 plan soon and plan to use my VZW S4. I am not going to port my number right away in case the service in my area sucks (doubtful, live in DFW in dense surburbia).
I went out off town this weekend and went to a t-mobile store and was able to get 4g service after adding the correct APN. But it is too bad that iwireless that is in my area does not use that band yet, they are staring to upgrade to that band later this year. Until then my s4 will only get edge service.

With the announcement of the T Mobile $100 2 line unlimited everything, I'm also interested in bringing my Verizon S4 MDK boot loader phone to T Mobile, but want to do my research first-- is it as simple as signing up for T Mobile and getting one of their SIMs and then-- would I be able to flash any of the ROMs in the S4 T Mobile Dev forum or is the T Mobile S4 a completely different device? Any caveats? Would I have to LokiDoki after the flash? Would I need to flash a T Mobile specific radio too (currently on i545vrufnk1)? Or is that all just overcomplicating things? Would i be able to just adjust the APNs on my current ROM after inserting a T Mobile SIM?

So I am figuring which Note 4 variant to get. One factor is which one has best compatibility across US and internationally.
AT&T seems to list these specs:
4G-LTE Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 17, 20, and 29
3G - UMTS 850/1900/2100MHz
T-Mobile:
Quad Band GSM; UMTS: Band I (2100), Band II (1900), Band IV (1700/2100), Band V (850);
LTE: 12, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 17
So it's seems that for LTE AT&T has best compatibility (bands 20 and 29 extra with 20 being popular in Europe), while for
For 3G T-Mobile supports band IV (1700/2100) which, I suppose is AWS band only in use by T-Mobile.
So overall, AT& version seems to have better compatibility.
Other factors are, however, locked bootloader, availability of root (preferably without know tripping), amount of crap applications and other restrictions.
One thing that I observed with my T-Mobile Note 3 is that I couldn't change voicemail number on Cricket sim card. Worked fine on AT&T phone though.
So any thoughts on that? What other things worth considering to make a choice?
for me the AT&T Version is better because you gonna have full perfect coverage without issues just only have to wait for root but very soon somebody its going to do something with root.
The only reason people bought the T-Mobile or Canadian versions of previous Samsung phones was because of their LTE support. The UK version supports all the bands below and is 100% free from carrier molestation. It's $906 all-in delivered 2-day FedEx from an authorized Samsung UK reseller which means its 2-year warranty is intact (you have to send it to the UK for a claim though). It's also Exynos vs. S-805 which is a big deal to some people. If my Note 4 wasn't a free Next upgrade and I had to pay I'd be getting the UK version. And how exactly does warranty coverage work for a T-Mobile phone when there's not a T-Mobile account associated with it? Has anyone actually had a T-Mobile phone repaired by them as a non-customer?

I paid off the balance on my T-mobile Galaxy S4 and took it to AIO (Cricket) shortly after purchase. After a few months, the GPS module quit working. I had to return it to stock and send it back to Samsung for warranty service. I doubt T-Mobile would have helped me at all without active service so I didn't even try.

Having an active account has nothing to do with their return or warranty policy. T-Mobile will honor the returns or repairs.
I've never had to have a repair, but I have returned a phone within the return period without having an active account without issue.

I've had my Tmobile Note 3 on ATT for over a year and haven't had any problems and I've traveled quite a few places in the US. The main issue I have seen is people's LTE switching to HSPA sooner that ATT's version in places where LTE is weak.

However after 2 to 3 minutes, data dropped out completely and couldn't make a call or text. Is this due to not being SIM unlocked? I got it from a friend at rent a center for cheap. He assured me my ATT SIM would work. It is not lol. Any ideas guys? I've done everything except SIM unlock, and root/unlock bootloader.

Yes, I did a SIM unlock to get phone to work on AT&T.
for me the AT&T Version is better because you gonna have full perfect coverage without issues just only have to wait for root but very soon somebody its going to do something with root.<br/>
I wouldn't hold my breath on the AT&T Note 4 getting root.
i switched from ATT to tmobile. i have ATT version that i am using on TMobile.
So with the band information that you gave i should not have any problem right. there is no reason to switch TMobile version of the Note 4 except root. am i right?

I'm trying to do this too. Did u have to sim unlock it? I threw my ATT SIM in the phone and entered apn settings. Bam LTE popped up!

I've had the T-mobile note 4 on AT&T since the second week when phone dropped. I actually had to call AT&T and have them turn tri band on for my phone. My phone still shows as a blackberry on my account but LTE and cell service is perfect.
I have both AT&T and T-mobile versions. The AT&T lags a lot. I prefer my T-mobile only because of root. I can't live without Titanium Backup. And being able to remove that annoying volume warning is priceless since I use it for streaming in the car daily.
What about the Canadian W8 version on AT&T? It has all LTE bands the AT&T version has except B12, where T-Mobile version has all except B7. Is AT&T using either of those bands? In Colorado AT&T is using B17 I'm pretty sure.
