Magnetic case cover will not shut off screen - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

I got a 3rd party case for my Note 4. I am expecting it to turn screen off and on upon opening and closing. Yet, it doesn't. Is there a system setting I need to activate for this to work properly? I am inning Android 5.01

check what your 3rd party says about the case.
most 3rd party cases that I looked at need an additional application to be running to get that behavior.

Do you know what is the name of the third party software I need to enable it to work in that way?

Where did you order it from? This is where I would start looking or at least ask the question directly to the seller.
The ones I saw were on ebay and there was a link in the item description to the software.

G3 and McAfee

I just got my brand new LG G3.
I am absolute love this Device. But there is one think, i can't stand off.
Why does McAfee come Preloaded?
OK, i know (now) LG has a cooperation with McAfee - especially for the Kill Switch in case of my Phone got stolen.
But rly - They just simply could include this Function into the the ROM, totally without any 3rd Party Application.
Don't get me be Wrong. But a App with total Access to the Phone, an something serous like a Security Software should probably not be preinstalled on a Smartphone.
What if someone bought another Security App (or Solution) before. Or just simply don't want to have McAfee?
...
So the only solution to get rid of it, is to Root it - which i did.
...
Am I the only one, who has a Problem with this?
I'm on Sprint and don't remember it being one of the apps I froze. We had some other crap like it though. Just like when I buy a new laptop. Re install Windows first thing. Haha.
T-Mobile had lookout instead of McAfee. Froze it day one.
McApe
Yes. OFC i froze it.
But i think it is a bad Sign, when Security Solutions are preloaded on Phones...
I may be wrong (according to my Computer roots) - but if someone is not able to root and freeze it, he'll probably may have trouble with another security app (eg ESET).
And i think it's totally wrong, to force customers to use these kind of Apps.
In this special case I think, all the Securitysystems (lock phone down to the Recovery with the KillSwitch) in the G3 are nice. But i can't understand why they are all enabeled thrue a 3rd Party App.

@randyspants
you may not be able to use the Security-Features of the McAfee-LG cooperation
Read about it
i cant post links right now, sry
just google "mcafee newsroom lg g3"

[Q] On screen Phone or similar?

I really want to use LG's on screen phone software since my signal is weak while tethering and even the slight movement of the phone when responding to a text etc. can drop the signal. But from my understanding only AT&T and other non US carriers have the option available. Is there any way to get it on the Sprint version? I saw someone posted an apk for it in an old thread, but it didn't work for me (Couldn't parse package).
I'm running the stock rom, the firmware it ships with ZVA_01, rooted. I also have TWRP installed if I must use another rom to get it to work.
I have tried various third party apps, like AirDroid which took up so much bandwidth that I got little to no data from tethering, [email protected] which worked but wouldn't register clicks or the like, and I think it was called MyMobiler or something similar which registered clicks (but not keyboard typing) properly but showed just a black screen.
I really would prefer to use LG's OSP software because it's made for this phone (just a different variant) so it should work just fine, as opposed to the third party apps which were all hit and miss.
Thanks for any help guys!

Optus X Smart 4G smartphone

After purchasing several Optus X Smart 4G smartphones outright that are currently being sold in Australian stores I felt the need to make others aware.
Despite being branded as an Optus mobile phone it is actually an Alcatel mobile phone that comes shipped with some nasty packages, one being "Files" that after several days of enjoying your new purchase is upgraded to "File Manager" an application which now runs a boost application (Hawk Super Cleaner/ antivirus).
This boost application runs 24/7 and nags the user to click an icon then displays advertising. When you remove this application it defaults back to the factory installed version that does not contain "File Manager" stuffed with the boost aplication.
Being installed as an Android System App "File Manager" stuffed with Hawk Super Cleaner/ antivirus is granted with higher Android Operating System App permissions than the end user has limited controll over which brings privacy and security concerns to the device IMHO.
To stop automatic updates that will reinstall the boost aplication a user needs to log onto the Google Playstore and go into settings, then check do not automatically update applications to stop ALL playstore automatic app upgrades. Doing this in the phones bundled "Updates" aplication has no affect in stopping the automatic reinstall. Caveat being that Playstore app upgrades now ALL need manually input from the user who needs to remain mindfully to not update "File Manager".
The other option is to run "File Manager", go into settings and turn off the on screen alerts, this will allow "File Manager" stuffed with Hawk Super Cleaner/ antivirus to run 24/7 on the device and be granted with the many permissions you (like myself) may not want to (and never did) accept upon uograde / install,. However, the on screen displays will be gone from the phone.
Don't bother trying to stop it on the Android operating system level via options like disable app, do not allow peeking and rely on uninstall to the factory shipped version of the app as Android and Included bloatware settings do not act as expected and it will automatically install itself again, also displaying on screen despite the end users wishes and Android settings being checked.
Never being advertised that the phone would have on screen advertising to the end user or forced third party apps as part of the Android operating system I have made a complaint to Optus, the communications ombudsman, the "File Manager" developer, Playstore, Play Protect, XDA forum and anywhere else that I felt relevant.
My unconfirmed fear is that this device may allow the manufacturer to controll bloatware updates in the future via a command and control server rather than exclusively at the Playstore, hopefully this is an unjustified fear and one day the Playstore can clamp down on this type of unwanted and non authorised Android System App behaviour and put security fears to rest.
Currently awaiting an outcome
UPDATE: The Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman has forwarded my complaint to Optus for a resolve.
My argument was that Optus sold a product and forcefully allowed a third party aplication (Hawk Super Cleaner/ antivirus) to be side loaded and included as an Android system App, which in my opinion is outside the scope of Optus being simply a supply conduit to internet services as Optus now dictates what third party app the customer of this product must use 24/7 and without a reasonable opt out.
I have also suggested that Play Protect offer the end user the option to force a single Android System App from updating and add a detection flag for Android System Apps that stuff a third party aplication and byspass the new app install agreement methods used by the Playstore, AI is needed to detect mass user bases being unfairly exploited for the means of profit at the flick of a switch.
Hopefully the 4 devices purchased are given an easy Android System App uninstall option for bloatware that advetises on this phone by default, or get side loaded onto the phone without end user authorisation and after the purchase of the product has been made.
Otherwise replacement phones of similar specs that have Android as expected and advertised on the product box, and without forced Android System App advertising will be preferred for complaint resolution.
Now awaiting complaint communications from Optus.
Hi have you tried 'rooting' the phone to control the system better and remove that type of application? I have heard it may be the only way to stop such apps when standard obvious methods fail. (You will have to Google that as I know nothing more than what I have read). I would be pleased to know how you go with that as I have thought about doing it with my own phone but I haven't had as much of a problem as you are experiencing. ([email protected])
Put a custom recovery on it if there isnt one available im more than happy to build one for it if you would like and then flash magisk root
Install es file explorer, grant system root permissions and remove the file manager completely by deleting it then replace with another stock one in which you know has nothing being forced on you,
I was in the same boat have the optus x spirit next up from smart and the amount of 3rd party applications is to be quite honest shocking in my opinion i developed a TWRP for the X spirit and did exactly what i mentioned above no problems now
Rom for 5056i

Need Help Choosing A Root Solution - 851 Battery Issue

I've been reading through all the threads regarding rooting an 851. My head is exploding from all the choices.
I only have one problem I need to fix - after all these years my original battery is dying. When I tried to use the replacement batteries I purchased they get stuck at the logo screen and it just blinks until I put the old battery back in. I read an article where someone said they had to dig whatever app was telling the phone to reject the new battery out of their ROM. There were no instructions on how they did it and I can't find the article again so I have no idea what to do.
1) How do you choose which ROM you're going to replace your operating system with?
2) Will my PlayStore settings REALLY keep Android from updating my ROM back to 6.0 30G?
3) I searched this area for posts on invalid battery or battery problems and I don't see any recent posts addressing the flashing logo problem. Is anyone using a third party battery in their 851 and if so, which ROM replacement are you using?
4) What is the difference between twrp-3.2.0-0-d851.img and PGP Signature twrp-3.2.0-0-d851.img.asc and which one should I be using?
5) I have to do this first before I can install a new ROM?
Honestly, I'd just buy a new phone if I had the money but I'm on disability and I've already gone to the pay as you go program ($40/month) to be able to afford my cell phone AND the medication I need. My Samsung Galaxy Tab A doesn't work as a cell phone or I'd use that (can you root a T580 to make it work as a phone?).
Thank you for any help you can give me to solve my 3rd party battery problems.

Any one else notice our interesting tag along in our note 10+?

So, since I've got this over monster I've had a shocking number of issues. From sudden influx of crap followers online, people sending photos of some of those little people some people keep as pets.
But, it was probably a month in kept getting restarts that left my wall paper different, noticed key guard was in the running processes and Samsung wasn't able to give me much info at all.
Frequently my antivirus Would randomly flag some huge archive that would appear in Google vending folder and for some reason my weather app for my gear fit updated EVERYDAY
Today a series of unfortunate events and my phone did a factory reset shortly after a drop. I actually find that interesting because I don't know the drop or one of my...well call them gremlins. (Let's face it most of things i have attributed are probably just me going into PTSD blah blah blah... )
But today Turn process I did streamline to get Nic cards logging up and go and build to set up a good firewall get ad blockers going but I wanted to see what happened. And I go my weather app eventually.
And for some reason over in reddit they tend to think permissions like this are normal (I know Samsung's calculator is more than a calculator but mine once had almost every permission with about 800MB storage taken up.
So, This weather app seemed a little abnormal look up the IP address, looked up the company and, I looked furlough their partners for Samsung and Knox (didnt Find the one)
Just a quick assumption;
This module has the Hotspot 2.0 and REALLY likes its certificates. I noticed the option to share Your Wi-Fi with someone is always default toggle on.
If you scroll through the websites what we do you see that they are very proud that they have the edge one of the largest threat assessments for everybody when hop away from 1 of their servers , how many of them there are etc. And I Have this feeling that my device is actually just a nice little go between allowing others access to the internet while gathering their data points.
I can't actually post links but if you do their site plus this thing takes you right to the talk about their platform. Gove the data that goes through phones, that is good for anything from Cambridge analytica code level stealing countries to just figuring out how stable and great 5G is
/us/en/
what-we-do/intelligent-platform
I've seen the Address actually go by in my primary bp and add blocker but that 1 doesn't give me per app metrics so not sure what else goes to them.
Also, suddenly I think I know at least partially why they don't want flashed ROMS(?), at least yet.
I'd actually really like to know if anyone else, specifically related to 5G sees these also. Given the timing of that release device and anal FMRi weather app there. And for some reason even though I use a little cheaper company gives me unlimited data they have swapped my network several times between bigger company the smaller company. Its same towers and stuff usually so no big deal but, doesn't normally do that. (Have noticed that actually from the Galaxy store I see that quite often, but the "same" download from play store different version number less permissions)
(By the way hello this is the 1st device actually looking to rooting, prior the risk of that access to someone else was too much. Thanks for letting me join the community, I do hope I catch on quick ans don't drive any one too crazy)
(I tried to add in pictures of the weather app permissions and everything but can't post pictures either)
A drop shouldn't cause a factory reset... if it was caused by software you have an apk(s) that are trashware.
A 3rd party launcher put mine in a boot loop... twice.
If you did a recent firmware update it may have corrupted that load, reload as you did.
A virus or trojan are suspect as well. Run Malwarebytes and Trojan scanner. Some malware may not always be detected.
If you suspect a virus after a reload be careful what you load and bring into the system including the on SD card and any backups. Start with the base load and add only apps from Playstore at first. Go from there if it runs ok. Be wary of updates, one at a time, look for issues as you progress.
Same with backup data... if it's there you'll need to isolate it or dump all the data.
Use a package disabler like PD MDM to block bloatware from running and to troubleshoot.

I was worried so, as I'd never seen it i just know these things actually include that hardware backed encryption. I had worries that I had knocked that loose and might have issues with it later. (Accelerometer is off bit it seems now)
I can say likely:
1. Third party lock screen with data wipe. Not highly reviewed but was but trashy. May have accidently in the tussle woke the screen with motion and performed a wipe.
2. Package disabled. I play with what I can get away with disabling. Some Knox stuff is bit touchy.
3. I'd managed to start process of adding a second secure folder on a secondary profile. It hadn't like it but stayed working.
Or combo 2 & 3 but lock screen most likely I'd say

Get a good case like the Bolt. High G impacts can cause internal damage but usually not especially if in a case.
I don't use secure folder, encryption or any screen lock especially 3rd party. Any apk you give administrator rights to lock the phone can effectively trash your OS load in a heartbeat.
Have had passwords get corrupted (rare) before and gotten totally locked out on a laptop bios.
That machine is now useless.
On Androids you can reload to recover if all else fails but a reload takes a lot of work...
