I currently have AOSPA-L installed with PhilzRecover.
But it appears to unrooted itself somewhere along the line... PhilzRecover doesn't seem to root the device properly
What are my options here? Should I re-install stock, or is there a way to get root from my current set up.
Thanks!
Dammit! lol
I just found this thread, which mentions flashing SuperSU. All done.

Leaving this here to show someone else how to do it.

Rooting/unrooting with adb
The safe way is to know exactly what was modified in your system to root the device, and carefully undo the changes in the proper order. IMO, an app that roots a device *should* have unrooting capability as well because the developer of the app knows how the rooting process works, and how to undo the changes. Of course, the rooting process should be done in a way that allows it to be undone.
If you try to guess the process, and you don't know exactly what you are doing, you could brick your device, so be careful. I am not saying that as a disclaimer, but as an actual warning. Please take it seriously.
I had to root my tablet (also running ICS) manually through adb from my desktop Linux system. The method I followed was to install a custom su command in both /system/xbin and /bin, and then a Superuser app. It is not very complicated. I honestly don't know much about this yet, and just followed instructions that were posted at this site. The tablet was new, and I was ready to just re-install Android if things went wrong.
Does anyone know more about this? I tried to find more technical information on rooting, but was flooded with search results on what app to use, and other "user-level" information. I would like a full technical explanation if anyone has bothered posting such a thing. Do the apps all do the same operations? Is the procedure always the same for a given version of Android? And is there a corresponding method of unrooting, that works on all devices? If not, then why not?

I fully agree a 100%, but thanx to SFHUB the problem was solved...
Hi,
I just got the phone and have looked thru the forums and I have yet to find a definitive thread on how to root a ATT Samsung S3. Can someone point me in the right direction as the root hits I find all say my phone needs to be a I9300 and mine is a I747.
Also does anyone know what was fixed in the OTA updated that came out 4.0.4? Will this affect me being able to root the phone?
Thanks in advance...Todd

HEY!
Ok so im not completely sure which update 4.0.4 is but I think there has only been one so far right? the one that nerfs google search. Anyway, Here is a link to the guide that i used (after I did the update) and i followed the steps and the comment posted by danK in the comments. He said "If you’ve updated to newer software update, the stock OS will over-write ClockworkMod Recovery on reboot. To fix this, make sure “auto-reboot” is checked off in ODIN, then take the battery out when it’s done flashing in ODIN. Then enter ClockworkMod Recovery right away. " Doing this let me root my phone with zero issues.

(sorry it said i could not post links yet but this is the URL but without brackets)
Thanks for the link, that is only how to flash clockworks mods, how do you root the phone? Can anyone share that info?
Welcome to XDA.
First of all, if you had looked in the Dev section you would have found what you were looking for.
2nd of all what you want is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
Hello,
I've just rooted my S4 Mini following the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980 (I didn't add the optional step of flashing the custom kernel because, in all honesty, I've no idea what it means).
Root Checker tells me that the root was successful. However, I'm still unable to remove the annoying apps that came preinstalled on my phone - which is the reason I wanted to root in the first place! I go to Apps - Uninstall but the only ones I have the option to remove are the ones I've installed myself.
Is there something I need to do that I'm missing or has something gone wrong?
Thanks in advance. Apologies if I've missed something obvious!

Just install titanium backup and uninstall them from there!

Ah, as simple as that. I'd thought you might be able to do it the same way as with other apps.
Thanks for your assistance!
Hello everybody. So, let me tell you my story.
Back a few months ago, I rooted my phone. At start I liked it a lot, then I decided there might be a lot of problems with it, so decided to unroot it. Searched all over XDA, found a way to unroot, unrooted. Now more details. I rooted it with cfm-autoroot-whatever, then in SuperSU checked that I don't want root, and was naive I got rid of root. I was wrong, so searched XDA, found that the only way out was to flash the original OS(/recovery?) of the phone. So, thanks to guys here on XDA, they provided me with a link to the original recovery. I tried updating a rooted phone OTA, first time it failed, same story was with the 2nd try. 3rd try, however, was successful. Well, almost. It started, as I thought, to update, but then the phone wouldn't turn on - all it could do is to go into Download mode. Thankfully enough, I had Odin (thanks to XDA guys for whicever time). I launched Odin and flashed the phone with stock recovery.
Now I have SPH-L900, L900VPUCNE2, Device status is Official, but...
That's why I'm here, finally.
Recently I downloaded CPU-Z for my phone, and when I opened "System" tab, the first thing I see is this:
Model SPH-L900 (t0ltespr)
What? Really? I thought it's for rooted phones, or at least for some not stock recovery. So, does that mean I don't have a stock recovery? Does that mean my phone is rooted even though I didn't root it after flashing with "stock" recovery?
I can find the threads, I think I bookmarked them if you need.
I'll try to explain
Look in cpu-z under system if at the bottom "Root Access: No" then your phone is not rooted.
now if your wondering about "t0ltespr" it is the code name for the SPH-L900 but every dev uses "l900" from what i can see.

CPU-Z says the phone is not rooted. Really, my question has been answered: why the app says my phone is t0ltespr. Thanks.
DELETE
Reflash twrp then wipe the cache and data partition then reboot.

Did you try factory resetting from within settings on the tablet?
If you did that was your first mistake.
Twrp is now stuck in a loop trying to execute a script created for the stock recovery when you tried to reset from within settings.
You cannot factory reset from settings when you have a custom recovery installed. You have to do that from recovery itself.
No worries it's easily fixable, simply head over to sammobile or samsung-updates.com and download your firmware. Then boot into download mode and flash with odin.
After that you will be back to stock.
What was the point of that!?
In future anyone with a post count of less than 3 won't get advice from me.
You're going on my block list!
Overreaction much?
This is the OP by the way. I did that to have this thread deleted as I have solved the issue on my own. I eventually downloaded stock firmware and flashed. And yes, I did go to settings and tried to factory reset.
I figured I would edit posts and put "delete" for mods to delete the thread since it was solved and I no longer needed any help. And I'm on your block list for that? Really?
I do have a question if you even care to answer... Is there any way to root the device without TWRP? I don't want a custom recovery. Just the root. All I want is to be able to remove bloatware and able to use the "factory reset" from settings if wanted.

No its not an overreaction.
If everybody deleted their posts after getting the answer then nobody would benefit and those that help solve the problem would be wasting their time.
Its highly disrespectful to the forum and other members who try to help.
You have a very low post count and that is not the way to conduct yourself if you are a new member.
I suggest you have a peruse of the forum rules to understand what I'm talking about.
You have already broken 2 of them in the first few posts you've made.
I can't help with your question as you have left no info whatsoever as to what model you actually own.
Ok, I apologize. I didn't think it would be a waste of time if you had actually helped the OP, which you did.
By the way it's the OP, and for some reason I could not log into my other account. So I had to make another.
Anyway, what I want to do is root my tablet, but with no custom recovery. I just want to be able to remove a lot of bloatware and if I ever feel the need, reset the tablet like normal from settings menu. And also able to do software updates, OTA. If I can. Really all I want to do with root is just remove useless apps I will never use. Free up some space/save battery and such. Not much else.
So I own a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5, model SM-T800, running Lollipop version 5.0.2. I rooted my tablet using a CF-autoroot + TWRP before. But is there any root file that is just the root that will work for my model/android version I am running? Thanks for your help thus far.
OK that's better, but just a word of warning, you've created 3 accounts. You can get banned for this. If you have problems with your accounts contact a moderator.
Anyway go to this link for just root.
With root you will lose ota. However it's no big deal as all updates are available at sammobile.

Thanks for the reply... I know, I didn't mean to make another account. Sorry about that. If a admin can, they can delete the first two accounts since i no longer have access to them, and will be using this one as my main one.
Anyway I followed that link and I see the Odin flashable root for my device. Will it work for Android lollipop 5.0.2? I notice it says it's for android version 4.4.2.
When I first tried rooting, I found a root file and it didn't work. I had SU installed, but when I opened it it would ask to update binaries and then fail.

It will work fine.
Yep, thank you it worked.
Another question, is there an easy way to unroot, then do software updates, then re-root? Or is that too much of a pain? I dunno if you can turn root off using SuperSU, or if you need to install firmware to get rid of the root.

Well if you find your firmware for your device on SamMobile, flash with FLASHFIRE keeping root.
You may find you keep root and be able to ota , but you may have to factory reset first.
It worked for another member.
Hmm. If I did a factory reset, would all the bloatware apps I removed return? Or will they be gone for good?

They will when you install the stock rom.
Ok thank you for your help. Much appreciated.
