I'm going to try and keep this short!
I'm starting College in a week (CU Boulder woooo!) and I want some suggestions on how I should prepare my phone.
First.. I'm on CM12 and there are so many random little bugs and minor things that bug me, I'm for sure getting away from CM on my Note 4 - but what should I do? Go back fully stock, un-rooted? Maybe stock but rooted, or maybe there's a good touchwiz ROM that's EXTREMELY stable? (I know this depends on the individual user, but I wanna hear YOUR personal opinion!
Second.. then what? Can you think of any specific apps I should get? Maybe a good note-taking app, or a good planner I may not know about?
Anything else?
Thanks! Just looking for random opinions and suggestions from those who either have first-hand experience, have been in my position, or just anyone with an opinion they would like to share, knowing I'll give it a try!
Reliability is the most important thing for you stock rooted should be good enough. Goodluck

If you want to be rooted and have a really reliable ROM thats on stock then give Noterized a try. It won't let you down!

Hi, i am very new at all of this, i have never even rooted a phone before. my question is which rom do i want... there are like 10-15 of them, i want one thats fast, i hear that touchwiz really slows everything down so i guess one that gets rid of that. everyone talks about the pure google experience, which one(s) would give me that. but also with features like the cool crt thing, and the the toggles in the notification bar (4g,wifi) there was one with alot of different ones...
then like 2 weeks ago, the infamous bubby got ics working but there werent any fixes because apparently he was banned... so i guess, cant really expect anything new to come from there... is anyone else going to continue it, or start over? is bubby's stable enough?
also, one last thing, please dont laugh, but if someone could just tell me how the procedure works, i can watch the how to videos but the order is my question, first you root (with "odin"), then you flash a rom?
thanks

there are probably a lot more than 10-15. there could also be ROMs in other places (sites) for your device. the rule is, that you have to check ROMs yourself. what someone else finds great may not run so smoothly on your hardware. you just have to try them yourself. there are different 'flavors' of ROMs, because the user experience is subjective. sticking with the 'flavor' metaphor, do you think a group of 1000 people could tell you what flavor of ice cream you would like 'best'? of course not, people like different things. the only thing you can do is try them out, and decide for yourself.
I'm not positive, but I think almost all of the ICS builds you'll find will likely be 'alpha' or 'beta', at best. Which means that they're not really stable enough for daily use yet. right now, ICS is more of a proof of concept and for devs who are working hard to get it ready to be ported to your phone. asking 'Are we there yet?', isn't going to make it arrive any faster.
and to your last question. that's about right. when you've rooted, then you can flash. read, read, read. then when you feel ready...flash away.
hope this helps. good luck!
thanks for your help... yeah, i guess ive just got to check them all out... maybe try a couple different ones..

that's the best route. also, you can check youtube by searching for the name of a ROM you're interested in. sometimes you'll find walkthru videos that can help you eliminate some of them without wasting the time and effort of flashing. or maybe you'll see the video and say 'THAT'S the rom I want!!!'
Hi i am absolutely new to flashs, mods and so on.
So my question is ... what ROM is probably the best in terms of speed, stability and especially USABILITY for my galaxy nexus GSM ??? and dont really like the stock ones, so maybe someone can suggest a really good custom one ....
pls help me !
kind regards from

I prefer AOKP with Glados Kernel.
It has been said before that there is no "best" ROM, every user has different preferences and requirements in a ROM. Try them all.

Realistically speaking, it is impossible for one to sit down and try every ROM. Because in order to fully experience the ROM you need to have it installed for a couple of days to conclude.
The best way to find the best 'ROM' is to look at the thread and read it's features. Read the first couple of posts, then start reading posts backwards. Like what you see? then try out the ROM.
Ok thanks Buddys ... i just try it out ... Maybe i find one fitting my imagination.
peace to y'all
Well i have tried a lot also spent some bucks getting things trying to get better and after all that i figured that nothing its better than a stock image rooted in the long way Google fix the glitches and bugs and the system its way more stable and reliable

Well its not impossible.. And you're right a few days of having each one installed is necessarily to draw a conclusion. What I meant was try them all that you find appealing. I wouldn't expect anybody to flash one that they didn't like the looks of just to "try them all" lol.

I prefer more customization than stock. I was on stock for months and finally got tired of it recently. I flashed AOKP and have really been enjoying all the extra options like the toggles and the custom batteries and such.

Lol who knows. Someone might take the wrong way and actually download every single one of them and try them if they have the time to do so
No best rom. However, you can use this as a reference point: I am using AOKP b29 with Morfic's Trinity Kernel and all is smooth and great battery life.

I usually start by thinking of the specific options and customization that I want. From there just spend time looking at all of the roms available and if they contain what you want. If you can't find anything that way start flashing until you find what you want.

Not everyone has the leisure to do that because there are so many ROMs and kernel combinations. The chances of testing EVERY single little thing with the same variables such as reception, apps, background data, usage (heavy, moderate, minimum usage), these are just many of the variables that affect battery life.
By the time you complete that task, something newer will be out. It's like asking, "what's the best phone?" are we going to buy every single phone and try it? No.. we're going to look at user feedback and draw our own personal conclusions on which is the best for us because there is no best phone/ROM/kernel... the best one is the one that fits our personality.
No need to be a jerk.
Aopk will do you perfectly from what your saying. Give milestone 4 a flash, stable quick loads of customisable options for you to play with. No Lagg, excellent performance aswell as battery life.
Nothing else springs to mind in terms of stability, other good roms out there and cm9 however it's in builds with no milestone, so less stable.

CM9 is ridiculously stable at the moment; they just have a different definition of "stable". That said, for people who like a plethora of customizations; it's not there yet.
As everybody points out, your choice of ROM is personal, so I'd just start flashing until you find one you love. Find a popular one (AOKP, Gummy, Code name, Tranquilice) and flash it. If you're in love, stick with it, if something bugs you, find another ROM that doesn't have that.
The nice part about Nandroid backups is that there is little risk of flashing something new, and you'll likely know within a few hours whether a given ROM is right for you, and can revert back easily.
For me, once I installed Gummy (Lean kernel), nothing else lasted more than a few hours on my phone. I may flash something else every so often, but I keep coming back. That's ROM love.

That's true, I used it and it was very stable. Didn't use it for a long period though and as they are in nightlies still though they wouldn't be as stable. As you say though customisation wise its not there yet

Im looking for a rom to fill my needs, A rom with working wifi tether, usb tether, s-beam, Wifi direct, overclocking capabilities and maybe some of the stock TW sg3 features like screen on when viewing screen, call when you put to ear and things like that.
I know im asking a lot but I figured I'd ask to see what everyone else is running with high demands like me.
( by the way, I'm used to running aosp roms since I dont really care for TW rom lay outs, Unless thats a simple fix like running a custom launcher?)
Any input is greatly appreciated!

Before this gets locked by our mods.... go into dev section, check out roms (whats working/not and screenies are in thread. And can skim a page or two (towards end) see what issues are popping up.) Find one, flash and give a test drive and form your own opinion. Everyone uses phone differently and has different experiance with roms. So try for yourself. I run and personally love the peoples rom. If ya dont like a rom wipe and flash another. Rinse and repeat till you find your happy place.
Btw, not trying to come off like a d!ck. So dont take it that way. We seem to get a lot of these threads. All end up locked.
Lock me up please!

I have browsed around and even tried SlimRom which is a great rom but some of the descriptions for new roms dont give all the information ones looking for and screenies arent provided with every rom.
I didnt think my question was too vague, I listed some of the things I was looking for in a rom, Just thought some people out there had the same needs and could refer me to what their using.

First, i am going to assume someone will complain about this posts location...
Second, that’s a hard question to answer... No phone is created the same... So you will find many times a ROM will run perfect for one user, and just so so for the next... Its really all about you... What works best... Taking the time to flash and drive a ROM for a few days is always the best option...
That said, Tweaked 2.1 found here is by far the best Touchwiz based ROMs... It doesn’t rely on Aroma... What it does have in Aroma are all nice, clean mods that work the first time... On top of that... Tweaked Aroma works a little differently... You can set it once, it makes a backup of your preferred installs... And keeps it... That way next time you flash, you don’t need to do Aroma all over again... All of the work to the ROM itself are done with actual coding, making it far slimmer than the rest...
If you flash it the right way, it’s a onetime flash... Go be happy sort of ROM...
PLEASE, for the love of god... Do NOT take this as me bashing other ROMs... This is just my preference and thoughts... If anyone has a different point of view, SUPER RAD for you... Don’t get all bent over a barrel about my stance...
Look my friend, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but this in no way development so should not be in this section. There is a section labeled Q and A for questions.
Having said that these what ROM threads end up getting locked because they're pointless and end up in bickering and arguing.
There are like 10 current ROMs. Just read them and some peeps comments. When you find one that sound good, make a backup and flash it. If it isn't what you want restore your backup.
One last tip the 4.2.2 (AOSP) will have the most bugs and from what I've read worst battery life. So focus on the TW based ROMs. I went ahead and reported this thread so it can be moved before you very flamed. Please just pay attention where you post on the future
Ps I second tweaked

I thorough enjoy Jedi master 14. It has great battery life, speed and quite a few features and themes. It also has Wifi calling which is very nice to have on tmobile.
Also, please take this to the Q and A section. Better yet, we should report this so the mods move it. We don't need another one of these threads opened.
I hope this helps bud!

Hey Everyone,
I am sure this has come up before. I have been using Jedi Mind Trick 6, happily for a while now. I have had VERY FEW ISSUES until the other day when the phone shut off while browsing and I needed to restore my DATA. It wasn't that terrible but I can't have this happening while I am out in the field. I wanted to try another ROM but I can't seem to find anything that is STABLE. It looks like there are some camera issues with a lot of new ROMs. I rely on my camera and take a lot of pics. I know that this question is severely frowned apon BUT there are WAY TOO MANY ROMs for this phone. It seems like none of them are really stable and have way too many updates. I don't have time to update nightly or weekly. What ROM is the closest in reliability and performance to Jedi Mind Trick? I have been reading through threads for DAYS! Someone please give me a recommendation! Thanks in advance.
Many will disagree with you. And just cause you see a post or 2 in a thread saying something doesn't work....doesn't mean it's an issue for everyone.
So.....most will ignore this thread I'm afraid....but I can tell you what they are thinking ....just flash some roms until you find one that works good for YOU. Because that's the only way you will know what works good for you .
You will find some say this rom or that rom is perfect, and some will say this rom or that rom has issues. Asking is pointless I'm afraid.
My only advice....you prolly wanna try 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 roms for now. 4.3 is almost there, and for some its perfect too.....but others have issues. Or use 4.1.2 stock and call it a day.
Not all phones or users are created equal. The only way to find things that work for you is to flash them.
No offence intended .....but if you wanted stability over experimentation.....you picked the wrong phone.

Good advice to go with 4.2 ROMs. As you can see in my signature I'm no noob when it comes to flashing ROMs. My HD2 is a great phone. And you are right that this phone isn't that great but with the Jedi Mind Trick ROM it runs really well with great battery life. I was shocked when I had to restore DATA.
I just wish there weren't so many damned ROMs!

Can't believe u think there are too many ROMs lol, I think ur the only Hercules owner to ever say that, yes I can almost guarantee nobody is going to agree with u, and as far as ROMs with issues, I haven't seen one issue yet on beanstalk 4.3 or hellybean 4.3, actually to think of it there aren't many issues at all in most of the 4.3 ROMs up there lol and as was said before just because u see one person say the don't like something doesn't mean there are instabilities or issues man, go get a non developer supported device or go back stock if u don't like it lol but don't complain here about to many choices because that's why this forum is here, to offer choices lol
