Hello all,
I have just received a Samsung Galaxy note 2 4G and want to root the phone, backup imei and install a custom rom.
I have a few guides but would like some assistance to make sure i am doing it correctly.
I was going to use this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032849 and use number 3.
I am unsure if it is 100% secure and also when i select disable disploit does that then mean the phone is no longer rooted?
I was also going to backup the phone using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546 but should i sue this before or after root?
I then wanted to install cwm but need help in doing so.
I also notice the phone i got from Hong Kong came with a france rom, how can i install a rom from Australia?
If anyone can help me i would really appreciate it.
Cheers

I followed the directions outlined in the topic I linked to above to root my Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
However once the rooting process was done my phone came back on and it was completely unable to read the sim card.
Not only that it wouldn't stay on. After 5 minutes the screen would go black however the power would still be on as I can see my led light flashing that I'm receiving messages and alerts.
To hopefully fix this I went ahead and unrooted my phone using the same application in the topic linked to above and the results are that it still won't read my sim and it the power issue is the same.
Can someone please help me out with this and provide the instructions I need to return my phone back to what it once was.
Then can someone also provide a reliable way of rooting the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 that won't cause my phone to become unresponsive.
Thanks

Hopefully you haven't lost your imei no.

your answer lies here flash the file found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159652 for i 317 and search for your custom rom here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1870 and after rooting just to be on the safer side do efs backup http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922473 and if you are doing it through toolkit it must be option 51 for 4.1.1 and option 52 for 4.1.2 Jb
I am not very advanced at all when it comes to flashing and rooting.
It's hard for me to just go and flash my phone that's why I had used that simple program that I linked to in the OP.
I just looked in the settings on my phone it it says
Mobile Network Type = Unknown
Service State = Out of service
My phone number = Unknown
IMEI = Unknown
IMEISV = Unknown
Device Status = Modified
I could really use some exact instructions on what stock rom for the note 2 is best and step by step instructions on how I flash it on.
I could also use some help with finding step by step instructions on how to root my note 2 successfully without running into this problem again.
Thanks

there is no huge process just get a stock rom which is compatible for your device make sure usb debugging is enabled in device then open odin,
get your phone in download mode and connect to pc , on the PDA search for .tar file you downloaded and make sure the odin detects your device and start flashing.
search in youtube there are many videos too.
So I followed the instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2052779 there to try and un-root my phone however I am still with the same results.
The phone reads my IMEI number as unknown and it still cannot read my sim card at all. My power comes on but once it goes inactive it stays off and to turn it back on I have to take the battery out, replace it, then power back on only for it to do the same thing and the process to be repeated once more.
I could really use some step by step instructions say for instance is there another way I can go about restoring stock ware on the phone. If so where are the links to the programs I need to download and what is the sequence I use those programs exactly to restore my phone back to stock. What commands and instructions need to be done within those programs.
I would like to root my phone once it's been returned back to a working functioning status as I cannot make calls or anything right now. I was looking at putting Cyaneogen Mod on it however if there is a better software I would appreciate if you could point it out. What programs do I use and how do I use those programs exactly so that I don't end up with the same result that I have right now where I
m unable to do anything with my phone.
I really hope someone helps me at the level I'm asking. I know it's a lot but I will be really grateful for the assistance.
Thanks for having me as a member. I am a noob and do not understand much of what I have read the past few days. I felt this forum was the best place to post. If you can help me, thanks. If your local to Richmond, VA, even better. :good: If you run a business that can help me, feel free to send me your info. :fingers-crossed:
I had an ipod touch 1 that died and I purchased a samsung galaxy tab 3 model sm-t217s from a co worker who loves all things wireless and sprint powered. I discovered 2 card slots and saw one was a sim card. I promptly returned it to my coworker who said they didnt use the tablet anymore and had another phone. I advised them to call Sprint and see if it needs to be returned and if they needed to do anything that a reset of the tablet sold to me.
The tablet works ok, did a lot of updating and wants a sim card.I enabled developer mode or menu in settings and can get a lot of extra data like imei, hex, meid, mac id, etc, etc, etc.
Question:
Ok, If possible can in theory this tablet work on straight talk, wallet pop or some pay as you go data service ? Yes or No? and which one, which one do I need to buy?
What does flash mean?
What does unlock mean?
Do I need a sim card before attempting to unlock?
Do I need to root it?
Reading the forums in searching other than enable developer I tried to "upgrade" the OS on the tablet. I downloaded oden 3.09 and "installed" twrp2.7 and or cwm try 15. I got a boot menu when I hold down the volume and power button. I then tried 2 files I had uploaded to the sdcard Supersu 2.01 and the 2 abovementioned.
When I select install from sdcard It looks like it wants to install it, but I get some red text that says something to the effect signature invalid, verification failed, etc. I do not have it word for word. I found another thread here about that and the solution was to use cf root. What is cf root and do I need to do anything with it?
Thanks for your help. I feel like an idiot as I cant figure this out of get this to work as I had purchased a used samsung note 10 2012 model and successfully installed 4.4.2, but reverted to the stock os as the samsung crap made the stylus more useful.
PS, Im not a robot.
You can't bring it to Straight Talk, but I'd recommend bringing it to FreedomPop. You need to get a SIM card, but you can buy that off of Ting.
SIM unlocking won't really do any good. I did that on mine and it did nothing for me lol.
You won't be able to flash much, since there aren't many ROMs out for it. I personally used stock until I recently flashed Negalite.
I bought this unlocked international note 4 with a plan to root it....
However it has already been rooted....
I have ATT for service. The person I got it from had T-Mobile.
When I put my sim in and start it up I can make calls and send text as well as even get online
The problems are as follows:
1. It does not stay connected to the ATT network, I have to repeatedly hit send over and over till it finally makes the call... The same goes for text and the internet...
2. When I made the attempt to re-root the whole thing (mind you I am new to all this rooting...this would only be my second time doing so) I found after downloading all the software needed to do so.... I began to follow the steps provided here on XDA, when I tried to boot with the volume, center, and power key the menu is in Chinese sooooooo
........ So now I'm at a complete loss... I do not know what to do
Please tell me that one of you geniuses out there can help me solve this dilemma.....
I was hoping that just re-rooting this phone would solve my problems........
Thank you guys

Is anyone familiar with this Root Method? I'm a little confused because there is still a Verizon N4 Root Bounty but I found this Root method on Android XDA. I wondering is this Root Method Legit? Will it work? Does it Trip Knox? This particular Root method claims that it will work on the Developer Edition & Regular Stock edition. I would just like to know has anyone else tried this & what where the Result? I posted a Link to the Root Method Below. Thanks Jason

Unless an exploit was discovered seconds ago, it will not work. Believe me, when it's finally exploited, the news will be bigger than The Beatles stepping foot on U.S. soil for the first time.
Kind of interesting how it does say it's for our phone. I myself doubt that an exploit was discovered without a whole bunch of people blowing up the threads about it. LOL Who wants to give it a shot?
Based on the Comments I read, Some have said it will work. One person said it failed but another commented & said it would work & he just needed to find the right firmware. I think I will give it a Try this evening when I get home from Work. If this does Work OMG!
ive been flamed plenty of times but i said months ago it wont get root. people dont listen smh
Nobody reads anymore. Once again, cf-auto-root only works on the Developer Edition!

SO Do I even act as if I know if it will work or not, NO which is why I posted here to get a Straight Forward Honest Answer, Not these Asinine Smart @$$ Comments. Sheesh WTH The OP posted in the Comments it would work with BOTH the Developer Edition & the Retail Version,
I don't see anything about it being specific to the Developer Version only. It says it's for SM-N910v and doesn't contain the developer model number, SM-N910VMKEVZW.
I do see a disclaimer on the CF-Auto-Root page: http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/ that says "If you have locked bootloaders, flashing one of these will probably brick your device..." and it is my impression that the whole reason it's taken a while for a root exploit to surface was because of our locked bootloaders.
Look at the screenshots, that looks like 2 generation old touchwiz. And a random website called androidxda? Doesn't seem like a very reputable site.
The bootloader is locked, flashing CF-Autorooot will not work. This is basic stuff. Also for future reference, this doesn't belong in Android Development section.. take questions to Q&A.

I can confirm that this process works ONLY on the Note 4 Developer Edition. It will not work on the retail version no matter what firmware the user has on his phone because the retail version has a locked bootloader and the Developer Edition has an unlocked bootloader. This process will fail as soon as it tries to replace the stock recovery partition with the custom recovery (TWRP in this case).

I noticed some of what you are saying. I don't know Most of the "Basic" stuff with Android Root Methods. I can follow a Procedure to Root a Device. I don't know if this will work if this wont work etc etc AGAIN which is Why I brought the Questions to the PROS. I did look at some of this Questionably though. I also looked through the Comments & the OP posted 4 days ago that is would Work on Either Edition. I also Commented asking him again but the Comment is not showing up, maybe because it has to be approved before it will show up. The name AndroidXDA actually ADDED credibility to the post for me BUT it also made me Hesitant which AGAIN is why I brought the Question here to the PROS. As far as where I place the Thread IMO my question could go in the General Section or Android Development. I apologize for the Wrong Placement but I didn't put it in the Wrong Place on Purpose. I recieved a PM saying it had been moved & I even asked the Moderator Why because I still dont know why " Will this ROOT method work" is not a General Question or a question about Android Development. These forums aggravate me sometimes everything needs to be so perfect & in its right place according to moderators Opinions & who knows what that might be & if its placed in the Wrong spot BAM your Head is Bitten Off & you are Scolded for being so STUPID to put (blank) in that section. That is ALL. Sorry for asking a BASIC (dumb) Question & Asking it in the Wrong Place. I can only hope the Forum Gods Forgive me.
OOoooops I think I may have Broken another Rule with this Post. Dang It
THANK YOU jpcalhoun
You gave me the Answer without Criticism or Sarcasm. A plain & simple Answer to my Question which is all I asked for. Thank You. I now know that the OP AndroidXDA is WRONG. Thanks

Possible Bootloader Unlock
Okay I'm sure most of us have bricked or soft-bricked our devices. I have done so on the Note 2. I even screwed on my baseband once. This is what I tried to revive the phone.
1. Odin Stock (No luck)
2. Restore Back up (No luck)
3. And then interesting... Rooted a friends phone and created a backup in TWRP, swapped a few files and restored to my phone. (Worked) However, not only did this work, IT CLONED his phone entirely. IMEI, serial no., everything. Pretty much with identical sims- both of our phones would possibly ring when receiving a call.
With that said my initial problem wasn't solved.
So I started looking for a another method.
I found out that Samsung Kies has emergency recovery granted you have Model Number, and Serial No. of the device.
This WORKED. Good as new with exception of new 4.3 Bootloader.
So what I am getting at is...
What if we used the Serial No. of a Developer's Edition device through Samsung Kies to restore a Retail Version???
Theoretically speaking.... Kies would install the Official software for the Developer's Edition to our Retail device, Thus giving us and Unlocked Bootloader.
I only have 4 days left to return my device to Walmart.
If someone is willing to provide me with the serial number of a Dev Edition I will try this immediately.
Cheers!

I'm pretty sure this won't work because the Developer Edition bootloaders are INDIVIDUALLY signed. So, there is no way you can unlock the bootloader on a retail version...there is no Samsung "signature" for that bootloader.
Thanx for the clarification. Absolutely makes sense.
Is the SM-N910V a developer edition?
Just got one in the uk. My EE Sim works but no data, so I was gonna root it, then flash a eu rom on it. It's on 5.0.1
Thanks
Only if you bought a Developer Edition straight from Samsung......if it is a retail model it has a locked bootloader. ...so no flashing because you can't install custom recovery. Only root is temp root that goes away with reboot.
