Ok, so I have a VZW HTC One M7 that has been updated to HBOOT 1.61 running Droid 5.0.2. Am I dead in the water with trying to root and s-off this phone? I've been searching for a while now with no luck. If it is possible to root this phone please tell me so I can stop whining about it!

Your stuck, as Sunshine does not work for Android 5.0.0
Search Google for someone with a Java Card.
Also your post is better suited in the General Section.
Good Luck.

Note at this time.
Verizon locks the bootloaders, so you can't use the HTC Dev website.
The M7 is over two years old. So I don't it is a priority now.

Hi Guys,
I got my new UK/Euro version M8 delivered yesterday. I'm upgrading from a rooted S3 i9300 running CM10.
I've already unlocked the loader using the HTC tool but I can't find any versions of CWM or TWRP for it yet (not surprising as it's so fresh).
Has anyone managed to gain root access via any other means yet?
Cheers,
AsciiSmoke

I wonder is the Sprint M8 going to get it's own forum like the old HTC Sprint phones did, or are these similar enough to keep grouped in one forum?

Yes...and the recovery CaptainThrowback has posted in there worked on my Sprint M8...after a lot of frustration with other versions.
It is easy to install as it is now included in the toolkit from squabbi located here.. http://goo.gl/UoMXgW
The guys over in the AT&T neck of the woods are running TWRP 2.7.X.X. Say its compiled from source not a port. I have a AT&T m8 so I can't speak to it working for you, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

Hello there XDA Developers forum.
I got a HTC One M8 on contract with Three (UK) and was immediately disappointed with HTC Sense, and so, followed a YouTube guide to convert my standard HTC One M8 into a Google Play Edition HTC One M8. This guide included S-Off, and allows over the air updates. Also, the Google Play Edition ROM that the guide recommended I flash to my phone is not rooted, so the end result that I have is pretty much an exact replica of a Google Play Edition HTC One M8.
I am certain the over the air updates work, because before I "converted" my phone it was on 4.4.3, and after it was completed, a few weeks later I was promoted with an Android notification to upgrade to 4.4.4, which just worked without any problems. On the notification it even said "4.4.4 for your HTC One M8 Google Play Edition" despite my phone not actually being a "real" Google Play Edition model.
My question is, will the process be the same when Android L is released? IE, When Android L is released, will my phone get a notification like before and just be able to update like normal? Or since it's a pretty big update, will I need to flash a new ROM onto my phone? I'm hoping the over the air updates will take care of it again, but hoping someone could provide me with some info.
Thank you very much in advance everybody.

Really appreciate your help.

you'll be prompted, and depending on your setup will determine if you should follow through or not. (stock recovery, untouched sys apps, etc)
@marshedpotato - please could you provide a link to the YouTube guide you followed for conversion? Thanks.

I would not follow any YouTube guide, but the RUU guide on this forums. Don't have the link at hand though, as I'm not at my PC at the moment. Just search for it on the forums.
Following a video you'll never collect the proper knowledge of what you are doing and thus most of the time don't know how to solve a problem if one occurs.

s-off htc one m8
before update my htc one m8 to lollipop, i make backup for stock android 4.4.2 and 4.4.3 with twrp recovery. if i back to stock 4.4.2 or 4.4.3, can i gain s-off?
If you're now on Lollipop you cannot S-OFF as Sunshine isn't compatible (yet). If you're still on Android 4.4.3 you should be able to get S-OFF
EDIT: Looks like I'm wrong! Sunshine now apparently works on 5.0.x - http://theroot.ninja/download.html

As I said, no as you can't downgrade properly BUT Sunshine now works with Lollipop so you're good to go

Whoa, that must have been super recent, like the last couple days!
I have to go change a bunch of my posts in the last day or 2 now, saying 4.4.4 and 5.0 aren't supported by sunshine!
Hey guys,
I see quite a few topics about 5.0.1 being rootable.
Unfortunately I ended up upgrading to 5.1 without realizing it.
Are there any current ways to root 5.1 or downgrade to 5.0.1?
So it appears I actually have an M9. So mod can you remove this topic? pls thx bye

There was never a software root method for the Verizon m9.
Check out the Java card thread in the m9 general section to find someone near you who can root your phone.
I moved your thread here.
