To the OP, I'm glad you got it working. JMT JB3 is great. I'm on it too. I love it.
Just a side note on these scripts. Darkside does not work with anything based off of the official 4.1.2 release because of the Preload that is included. You need to use the new modified ones from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2235141

The procedure for a rom installation is usually listed on its OP<-Opening Page
One more thing... you asked me in a text message about root...
TWRP 2.5.0.0 has the ability to root a device...
here is... IMO the easiest procedure to install stock 4.1.2, recovery and root
flash stock rom with odin (I rebooted to system looked at the sock rom quick and went back to odin(should still work without restart toggle on))
flash TWRP 2.5.0.0 (with reboot toggle on)
open TWRP go to reboot and reboot system (it will prompt you to install root)
when phone boots open SU update done!

modified changes revert back after rebooting the device

my device has been running cm11 unofficial version for quite sometime now.. the 20140921 version.. but recently I've started having a problem that the phone restarts suddenly.. so., i tried doing a fresh flash again.. but i keep getting the assert error. and the phone restarts. I have the recovery image which grarak had posted in the thread. But i donno how to use it. And now the problem has worsened because once I install any new app, the phone restarts on its own and after which it restores it back to the time when the app wasnt there.. I'm not able to make any new nandroid backups too coz the device restarts again.. I thought it might be a CWM error, so I tried flashing TWRP.. but its again an img file which i donno what to do.. sighs. .. and also, if i try to do a fresh flash of the official version of cm11 now, using the recovery i have now, will it show the assert error again?? thanks a lot in advance... hope someone can get me out of this mess..

actually this problem is much more serious than that.... my device has kinda frozen in the present state... if i uninstall any apps and then restart the device the app remains there itself.. and if I try to install a new app, after restart, the app is nowhere to be seen.. so, in short, i cant install any new apps or make modifications to the previous ones... I'm not even able to install any other recovery due to this... it seems like there is some problem with the R/W rights.

Ok let's see, so your saying that the device won't allow to read or write, meaning 1 of 2 things.
Either you lost root access by uninstalling or modifying something, or
your device has accumulated too much background information / app data and it won't allow it to make any more changes due to limited or in other words, there's no space.
If you have CWM 6.0.4.7 then you will get the assert error every time. This is just to make sure you do have it flashed.
First thing's first.
-Go into your bootloader and go into fastboot mode. Plug it into the PC and it will say fastboot USB.
-Now download and run this .exe:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/7nn4a5xzx2pw7as/CWM_Recovery_en.exe?dl=1
-This will flash the latest 6.0.5.1 CWM automatically.
1. Now that you have the latest recovery installed,
-Boot into the recovery and wipe the CACHE and go into advanced options and wipe DALVIK CACHE. Do not press factory restore.
-Hit reboot device and test by installing an app to see if this fixes the issue.
2. If it still reboots after installing an app then download this .zip:
http://download.chainfire.eu/452/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip?retrieve_file=1
-Put this zip on your SD card/internal storage
-Go into CWM and flash this .zip.
-Reboot the device and test again.
3. If BOTH of these steps failed then you will need to freshly install CM11.
-While the device is still on, put the latest CM11 on your device or recycle the same one that your using if you prefer its stability.
-Boot back into CWM and do a factory restore.
Factory restore is almost ALWAYS necessary for every time you flash CyanogenMod unless it is an update that specifically states it can be "dirty flashed" which is just a way of saying you flashed it without wiping all your information - data/cache/dalvik off of it.
Let me know how this goes for you.

Yeah i already had the CWM 6.0.5.1 running on my device, but I flashed it again just in case.... That didnt solve the issue.
Next I flashed the Super SU zip from my SD card(since anything I place in my internal storage vanishes once I reboot... even if rebooted in my recovery) That again didnt solve the problem
I did a fresh install of CM11, 20140921 which I am running at present due to the stability issue you mentioned.. (have tried with the official nightly a couple of times to no avail)... It shows the assert error just as before, all the time.
And yes, all the apps I uninstalled came back again, as always Completely out of any more ideas... And also I get quite many error messages often " so and so app stopped responding" and stuff

Did you try wiping JUST the Cache and the Dalvik cache WITHOUT doing a factory restore? These options are in CWMR.
Also, what is your device model? (a5_dug/chl/dwg/ul etc.)

So I removed line verifying tz and then patched zip and flashed from in-app and it flashed and then booted successfully.

Great.. Keep it up... It is solved. Out of excitement i tried to flash many roms, i flashed XOSP, RR, AICP, OCT_OS successfully. Getting error in bliss. See attached screenshot.
And one more thing to confirm?? I am unable to flash any patched rom through twrp recovery (using v3.1.0.0). Is it only me or is it a common error.
Im TWRP, error is something like "updater process ends with error 1".

thanks for testing app and reporting
I will solve both things asap
i recommend to use data slot
As using extsd slot will be slower due sd card write speed

Actually, i have tried ext-sd slot only. And it works fine.
I use more than 200+ user apps in primary rom, So I cant waste my internal storage on ROMs. So I Use Ext-slot only.
And I use Samsung 64GB Class 10 (80Mbps) and It works fine.
Flashing a Rom takes 7-10min (without gapps).
And even the booting time is rarely different. First boot may take more than 5-10min. But after that its always around 2-3min.
Sense OS took much time as its larger in size. Rest are almost as i described above.
Which ROM did u tried?? I would say try RR its the fastest in booting and flashing.

Can anyone help me unbrick my moto z2 play

Anyone available to assist?
bootloader is unlocked.

If not, download the rom below,

copy it into your sdcard
and than flash it via TWRP.

Boot into recovery, wipe internal storage, dalvik, cache, sdcard, etc (just tick everything... don't worry, u won't wipe ur recovery)
Then connect to PC, copy over any ROM made for the Z2 Play (I use the Pixel Experience ROM for Albus)
Flash, wipe cache/dalvik, then reboot into system
Should be working...

Twrp not working after Android 10....

I can boot into twrp... However, when I try and flash the installer it says failed to mount system and another partition. Tried several variants, every way I can think of. Anyone else having this prob?

Have you tried flashing the twrp 3.3.0-0.img file to the recovery ramdisk partition instead of using the zip file?

TWRP gives this error but it still works. The system partition can't be mounted in 10 as of yet. I haven't had a problem flashing anything though. It will give that error after every flash but so far everything works.

Fastboot the stock boot.img to remove twrp. Then try using twrp version 3.3.0-0. You will still throw mounting errors when you flash zips, but it will still work :good:
it worked thank you !
EDIT: twrp-3.3.0-0 still not working on my PIXEL 2XL TAIPEN

I'm on the Android 10 version of pixel dust rom and I had to side load the rom, trwp, and magisk because I kept getting those errors. After the rom booted up, I booted back into twrp via the rom and everything was fine. Super weird, but everything worked ?.

On Android 10 the /system partition is locked at read only so it can't be mounted in TWRP as read write. To do a nandroid backup go to mount and select mount partitions as read only and check /system and /vendor then do the backup
