Looking for advice on the best ROM to install - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I moved to a Google Place edition ROM a few months ago, but I would like to go back to a Sense based one. I'm wondering which is the best one currently.
The main things I would like are:
-Sense-based ROM
-Viper4android (doesn't have to be pre installed, but has to be compatible)
-Edited hosts file that blocks ads (or write protection off so I can modify it using AdAway)
-S-Off
So what would be the best ROM based on these? Any pointers appreciated.

There is no best rom. Useless discussion. Read the specific rom opening posts and check what interests you as user.....like it.....flash it and test it out. Isn't it what you are looking for just flash another rom.
And please keep questions in the Q&A section.
Q&A means Question and Answer. This is the GENERAL section ! Seriously read.......if you did you also would have posted in the correct section.
Thank you and happy flashing !

All custom ROMs have system write protection disabled.
S-off is not a feature of the ROM. Its independent of the ROM, and is obtained by sunshine s-off method.
As mentioned, there is no "best ROM". Everyone has different preferences/needs, and uses their device differently. While discussion of favorite ROMs is now allowed on XDA; it wasn't long ago that it was not. Reason being, calling one ROM the "best" is an insult to the devs of other ROMs that their work is somehow "inferior" or "not the best". And as also mentioned, such discussions are typically useless; and usually devolve into pissing contests.

I find that each rom thread claims to be the best and has a few hundred pages of posts with issues and fixes, so I was looking for someones opinion. It takes a long time to set up everything after installing a new ROM, it's not exactly fun installing different ones and setting it all up again from scratch

It doesn't take long to set up a new rom, that's where titanium backup and HTC backup come in handy ! Not taking the time to explore roms and going off on other peoples opinions is just pure laziness !
If you don't think recalibrating and setting up your phone from scratch after installing a custom rom is fun then stay on stock forever.
Happy flashing......

I've been installing custom ROMS since 2011. I don't do it for the fun, I do it so I have more control over my phone and so I can remove branding and crapware.

Then why not root your stock rom and delete the crap ware ? Then you don't have to set it all up again

Yeah, well guess what? Anyone that is smart about ROM flashing has read the thread (for the ROM or ROMs they intend to flash). Not every page, but at least the past few (most recent) pages, to see if there are any common bugs, fixes, etc. You don't need to read every page, since older posts refer to older versions of the ROM, and previous bugs have often been resolved.
Asking others so you don't need to perform your minimum due diligence is just lazy, as Mr Hofs mentioned.

Using Titanium Backup batch restore function (well worth the few $ for the TB paid license), I can easily get a new ROM up and running in 20 minutes.
Honestly, in the time you've complained about how long it takes, and waiting for folks to respond to this thread; you could have flashed and setup 5 or more different ROMs and tried them out to see if you like them. And as long as you read through the ROM descriptions to see if they might fit your needs/preferences, it usually only takes flashing a couple ROMs to find the one that is right for you.

Again, this comes back to personal preference and subjectivity. What is considered bloatware by one user, is a useful app to another. There are a number of HTC Sense apps and Google apps that I find quite useful, that others consider "bloat".

If you have a GSM M8, the Developer Edition removes all branding, most crapware, generally behaves like "classic Android" as it pertains to reading and writing /system, and is still bone stock - so you can get HTC OTA updates. However, I can certainly understand wanting to go to a different ROM for more control over appearance. I absolutely love CM12 on my old Galaxy S2 because I can make it look exactly like I want.

Sounds interesting. Being able to do OTA updates is definitely a bonus

As mentioned previously, it's all personal preference:
do you want to be stock? -> OK go for dev edition, or WWE unbranded edition, BTW if you "root" you're not "stock"
do you like HTC Sense? -> narrow it down to one that has the features you like
don't like HTC Sense? -> try GPE
don't like GPE -> try CM, or any other AOSP based ROM
in no particular order
but at the end of the day, you're going to have to make the decision yourself
you wanna try different ones, but want to keep your primary intact? then check M8 MultiROM (sorry dont have the link handy at the moment)

I like the "best color" analogy. Its very appropriate, as everyone has an opinion on it; but in the end, it doesn't matter what someone else's favorite color is (has no relevance to what your favorite will be).
And yeah, its pretty strange that the colors of the pie chart don't correspond to the color it represents.

Well, I really like purple for some things (but it looks <not sure what colour> on that chart), and also blue (which is orange) ... so I guess I'll go for red (which seems blue-ish) :good:

pissed off girlfriend! need to fix delayed/missing sms FAST!

the title says it all, lately for the past week or two, I've been getting delays on some of my messages and sometimes my messages just doesn't go through to her. She is getting extremely frustrated and accused me of messing up the whole thing.
Knowing that the TP2 have the widespread SMS bug, I'm hoping to see maybe someone here could offer some guidance for improving this particular issue.
Currently, my device is an AT&T Tilt2 loaded with [ROMS][6.5][WWE]Sup"A"Lite Roms|ALAP|Lite Variations|Plain
I had to install the AT&T keyboard fix and the AT&T settings cab.
I tried the data speed fix with no differences (thinks that was built in the AT&T setting cab that I linked to before).
The question is this, is there any particular settings I can check on the phone to ensure that I have all of the sms setting and connections set up right? I've once tried to search and find out the connection settings for the AT&T Tilt2 and couldn't find it. maybe there's a guide out there somewhere where I can refer to to make sure that the phone is connected right.
to double check, is there currently some slowdown with AT&T network itself in general regarding texting? Sprint network too (my gf's virgin mobile pay as you go phone runs on sprint's network)?
hell no, she's the love of my life and I fully intend to marry her. the problem right now is that she lives 300 miles away as I go to a university. so txting is the ONLY mean of communication we can have (both of us are deaf).
Seriously, I'm looking for real answer. so please, no insulting comments about dumping or anything (yeah I know that this is the internet but I can at least request civility and real answers regarding the sms issue itself.)
Steps that I would do if I had this problem.
1. Try changing to a different radio (you didn't mention which one you use).
2. If that doesn't help try a different rom.
3. Try a different rom + radio.
My best guess is that it's radio problem. So try a diffenrent radio, maybe that is causing your problems. Otherwise it could be due to the rom that you use. Just experiment a little bit and you will solve it

thank you. I knew I was forgetting some vital info to post here. My current radio is Version: 4.49.25.77 (Telstra, Australia) the latest one in the radio collection. I had tried a many radios until I settled on this one because I had no data on most of the other radios. the problem is that it have been a while (like 2 or 3 months I think) since I installed this radio and I had no problems until only recently (about 2 weeks).

Well then, did you install a new ROM 2 weeks ago?
Several ROMS that were using the older version of HTC Messaging have been know to have problems. Especially after a lot of messages have built up and not been deleted. I would try a ROM with the latest release of HTC Messaging. Like this one.
Read up on it and see if it's for you.
Good luck.

that make a LOT of sense. no wonder why my rom was performing beautifully at first for SMS. the problem is that I'm really wanting to keep the rom as light weight as possible and this mean that if I go for any of these rom for tilt2, I will lose the minimalism I love. the battery life and performance (beside the sms issue) have been beautiful on the ALAP rom that I linked to in the first post.
gonna post to the ALAP ROM thread asking about having the htc messenger updated and in the meantime, I will be testing out the tilt2 specific rom to see if this is indeed the issue, if so, i will notify the ALAP rom of this and watch like a hawk until it have been updated and jump back there. thanks!
Considering the amount of txt that me and my gf send to each other, it goes into hundreds a day sometimes. so it make sense! thanks! here's hoping to this issue being solved. I will post here in a few days after testing out these rom to see if it's indeed the exact issue that you explained.
again, thanks!
:EDIT:
gonna see if just keeping the sms folder cleared once in a while will keep this bug from acting up. if it works, I'll just keep along with this rom is there any setting on windows mobile where I can restrict the amount of sms I can retain (except for those that I've saved)? or at the least an cab that would auto empty the sms folder every 3 days or so?
Maybe it's time to get a new phone or getting a refurb exchange.....
Hope you get it to work and best of luck to you and the love of your life

ok dude i think thats a bit too much, considering the fact both of them are DEAF! cmon man show some respect, hes trying to save his relationship, and here you are trying to put him down rather than helping him, get your act straight! people dont appreciate that type of attitude, seems like you dont have any feelings whatsoever!
anyways to the OP, i recommend trying a ROM that has the HTC Messaging 2016, highly recommended if it works, try flashing a different radio like .91 should help a little bit, good luck on your relationship, and go for it, dont mind the others trying to put you down, do what you think is right for you!
Another thing that you could try is to run android for a while. Just download the file in the android section. This way you can check if it has to do with your radio or with the rom you are using.
It's a little big workaround but it is worth trying if you don't want to change your rom. Android runs from your SD card.
I have android too, heh. had it for several months. still got the same bug in android. the same for windows mobile even with clearing out my sms folder. :-/ makes me wonder if the problems is not in my phone, instead in the network? any way I could find this out?
Then change your radio. Just for the record, did you check her phone? Maybe the problem is with her

okay, let just ignore the troll.
Basically because I boot into android and find the exact same performance, it makes it more likely that it's the radio more than anything else? what I do not understand is why it takes time to degenerate if it was just simply the radio?
Funny thing is now i'm having problems getting MMS from this girl sending me some of those very nice pictures(yeah you know the ones) and they won't come through anymore and she tries sending them 3-5 times.....
I remember when I was on T-Mobile a few years back and had a similar problem with calls and text and they said they were having blackouts in my area....wonder if it's the same thing on AT&T
I've been wondering why I keep getting "THOSE" kinda pictures in my messages.....tell her to keep sending!

[Q] UnNamed ROM tweaks and help sought....

Hi everyone, my name's Chris. I'll be honest, I've been terrified to create an account on this site because there are some horribly impatient individuals here that seem to have zero patience for individuals (like me) who don't spend their waking minutes developing software or hacking. The SGSIIE4GT is the first killer smartphone I've owned, but my efforts on Android Central for answers to my questions go unresolved. So I've bit the bullet, and hoping people on here can help me out. I'm a self-confessed noob, but I'm learning the ropes quickly. Please be kind.
I'm running the UnNamed Rom 2.0.1 and have done my own custom theming using Launcher Pro and stuff. However, there's two things on the ROM that I'd really like to customize/tweak, but can't quite seem to find the answers. I wanted to post this under the actual ROM thread in Development, but XDA said I can't because I'm new. I searched and searched other posts, but can't find my answers.
#1: Is there a tweak or setting or file I can change/add/remove so that I can get rid of the clock display in the status bar? I use SiMi clock on my home and lockscreens, but would like to minimize the crap on the top bar if possible by removing the time display.
#2: The battery icon in the ROM has a % remaining built in, but I'd like to make it white instead of green. I've searched ROM Toolbox (I bought the paid version), but I can't find a 1% icon I like. So (a) is there a way to get more 1% battery options into ROM Toolbox to choose from, or (b) an area where I manually download a 1% battery (apk?) and replace the one in the ROM?
I hope that makes sense. This site is so enormous, I did my best to search for answers prior to posting, but haven't found solutions yet. Can anyone help me or point me to the answers. I appreciate any time and help you're willing to offer me!!
Glad you made it! Check out the app Super Status Bar from the market. It may give you an easy way to handle the clock until you get deep enough in to modify the necessary files to hide it in the stock bar.
I just downloaded it to test and seems to work. The only bad thing is that it also replaces the toggles in the AIO mod already in UnNamed. Looks like it has its own built in. I didn't get too far into it, but may be worth a look.

Oooo, yeah, I had checked that out a couple days ago. That's one of the posts I was able to find somewhere, but altering those toggle switches is a no-go for me. I love having fast access to the flashlight, brightness, airplane, sync, etc. I was guessing maybe there's a system file on the phone that is just the status bar clock and I can delete it.
There is a thread in the app and themes section just for this ROM. Maybe those guys can help you out with the battery...I know there is an AIO Mod that allows you to remove the clock I believe but not sure how stable that mod is on this ROM. They should be able to help you better over there.
Ignore the nasty replies if any and even then, someone will come along and help you.
I have been here for 5 years and I still get nasty replies from some people. It just makes them feel better. You just need to learn how to ignore and move on although 5 years later it still pisses me off! lol
Posted something for you in the UnNamed theme thread. The guys over there are doing some good work on customizing some stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if someone can help out. Good luck!

I appreciate the insight . I always try to keep my cool and help people out if I know something they don't, but going through some of the threads on here about this phone is very intimidating. I definitely would have posted my questions in the actual ROM thread, but because I'm new, XDA didn't let me post it there, so I figured the next best place was general Q&A. But thanks for the suggestion!!! Seriously, thank you for at least being nice and not trying to put me down since I'm a bit of a noob. Thanks!!

Oh man, yeah that would be sick!!! Being the E4GT is my first quality smartphone, I've really tried to learn as much as possible before I post questions. You won't hear any pressure from me to make it work, as I'm sure this is something that many UnNamed runners would love to have control over. But that tweak port looks very awesome, and is exactly what I'd be looking for. Thanks for the follow-up. Just curious - if I find a set of 1% battery icons I really like (or heck, even make my own using MS Paint and saving as a png file), can I put them onto the phone somehow so they can replace the stock green UnNamed battery icons with the %s? Full sets of 1% icons (100+ pictures) are hard to find. Does anyone know of a site that I can sift and filter through to find ones I like? I can't be the only person wanting a great set of 1% icons to choose from.....
Thanks!!

I thought it would be grate to have a spot, were we clould ask questions to Clark44 about his Rom FreeGS3 v0.0.7 7-27-12
I am a realy Big fan since version 7 the Installer shows so much spunk!!!
I realy think keeping everything for Clark44 in one spot will help him in further creation of his rom.

I am a realy Big fan since version 7 the Installer shows so much spunk!!!
I realy think keeping everything for Clark44 in one spot will help him in further creation of his rom.

I'd say don't use CPU apps. He has some tweaks in there and never mentioned anything about outside apps.

goo rom manager question
I do not want to loose the abilty to save recoveries to my extSdCard. So I am afraid to switch from CWM version that i am using.
The question is, can we use the Goo Manager to download the zip then use the CWM to flash it ?
I am just not sure if it packed and repack the same way.
Youtube isn't working when I'm on the go, using my 3g. But it works fine when I connect to Wifi. Maybe I did something wrong or maybe it just my phone?
Clark44 never sleeps...he is a rom machine
I noticed on the messaging app that the vibration when silent option was absent with .7. I don't need my phone vibrating when I get texts with sound on so I was wondering if there was a way to get that back. Thanks.

I prefer the old options too. When I unchecked vibrate and sound in settings > sound I still get vibration when texts come in
No S-Voice options please
The installer is very cool. This is now my goto build for installing modems, I can install them at install then update PRL with one build.
I can't live with S-voice though, it just can't call the people I want and... don't get me started on it.
I hoped choosing not to install the removed Samsung apps would include S-voice but I still get it when I make a BT voice dial.
Is there any way to have the option to not have S-voice and use Google voice instead?
Thanks!
Thanks for posting this thread! I can't post in the dev forums yet (too new) so I had no way to get into the conversation.
I've got two questions.
1. Is anyone using JuiceDefender with this Rom? I'm used to it from my Samsung Galaxy Epic, but I wasn't sure if it's needed on this ROM. I like some of the features (Location aware Wifi, etc) but maybe not if it's sacrificing battery.
2. (For Clark) On version .8, is there any way to build in some of the color/theme options from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28676439 ? I'm not a big fan of green, so I would love to change the colors of the battery and the 15 toggles...
Thanks!

Well, I think it depends on how you use your phone. For me at least, JuiceDefender has helped out TREMENDOUSLY. I live in an area with bad reception and I'm constantly going in and out of roaming. Having all my data turned off while I'm not using the phone really helps boost my battery life (and not having to do so manually is worth the $5 in my opinion).
Without JD I'm at about 10-15% when I get home from work (10 hr work days). With JD I'm at about 30% when I get home.
I guess everyone's mileage may vary, but if you've already bought JD you might as well try and see if it helps your battery life.
side note: I also love the night tint in JD
I've actually got a couple of questions with this ROM.
First, though, I have to say this is a phenomenal ROM. I initially flashed it solely as a stop-gap while waiting for CM10 to come out for my Sprint GSIII, but it quickly has become my daily driver.
So with the installer on the 0.0.7 version, there are multiple radios. Is there any advantage in flashing one of those, or just leaving it be? Also I really like the CRT animations and beats audio, but it wasn't there in the 0.0.7 version, so I just went with 0.0.6. Is there a way to get it on the 0.0.7 version or have those features been disabled? I went off the video review on youtube, linked but for some reason, on my version, little to no features were on mine compared to the review video. Is there a way to enable them on the newest version? Thanks.
It got lost on the main thread, but awesome beats will be back in .8 (he forgot to put it in .7) and crt was broken by Samsung

Nice thread you guys have going on here
As for themeing. Let me explain how im going to have this system setup at latest by v0.0.9.
I've done some research and finally found an app that will do the following:
1. Notify when update is available
2. Allow user to download themes, bootanimations, apps, flashables, all within the app and all supplied by me.
3. Allow the user to read the changelog of upcoming buids on the go.
The link to this app is here
Now i already started migrating the boot animation option i already finished in Aroma installer into this app and that should be done very soon. Themers will also be able to send me whatever they make and i can make it an option in the app!
This will benefit us in the following:
1. Aroma installer stays and installs kernels, modems, and mods
2. ROM size doesn't go up to 2GB when i add in all the themes ect. (Size will always be around 860)
3. Users can change their theme and UI mods on the go without having to reinstall the ROM.
I'm trying to make customization available without having to reinstall the entire ROM. This will give us the best of both worlds.
I'm working on this as we speak so I might dissapear from XDA for a little bit while i stay on my train of thought But in spite of everything...this is going to get a whole lot better.

No on CRT, see back a page or two with a draft of the mods in next release.
The radio's are the different modems you can choose, there have been three releases (updates) and the original that came with the phone. That is what the radios are.
Radio=baseband=modem

Are there any advantages/disadvantages in flashing a different modem to the phone? It seems to be a consensus that LF9 gives better signal, but I'm afraid for the drawbacks.
Downloading .8 now. Very excited.
Clark, I have a small request for .9.
Any chance you can add on my favorite bootanimation from my Samsung Epic days?
It's the third link found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033274
(I'm also a big fan of the blue shutdown animation, but that's not nearly as big of a priority.)
Thanks!
I don't see the video icon when using Google Talk. I used to have it before I flash 0.0.8. Any ideas, I can get it back? Thanks

The reason the thread is closed is not because the developer is angry at all or anything like that. He no longer has the time to support the ROMs at the moment, I was suspicious to to the ROM's disappearance but was alerted he posted the reason he closed development on his G+. This ROM was taken offline when the new one came up, that's all. Thanks OP.

Yeah out of respect, I agree. Though Mike and Annex in the past have not cared for others posting their work, maybe that's why the OP didn't ask, and out of high demand.

They were just looking out for the dev is all. All too often people will post someone else's work without asking first, sometimes they give proper cred, sometimes they don't. But the decent thing regardless of your intentions is to ask first, which you said you did. And thank you for clarifying that btw.
Tbh, after reading the OP, I thought the exact same thing. Always do when it's not mentioned. You obviously appreciate the devs work on this Rom, and saranhai was simply looking out for them and their interests. I don't believe it was meant as accusatory at all.
Anyway, just thought I'd offer up a bit of explanation. Thanks for posting this, I know a lot of people are going to be very pleased to see it here!

Yea i get it i jut dont understand 2 things..
1. All his work EVERYTHING is up for download, so couldnt i just modify a few settings, add some wall papers, maybe some of your Modem tweaks as default and this would qualify at least as S3 Development.
2. So because the thanks was in regular text size and not colored that doesnt count as thanks !? The hassle i went through to put this togther and the 2-4 days waiting for a reply for Ramsay...(i put thanks to him and his team on the top and bottom of the post when i FIRST posted it... i even posted PICTURES OF THE GUYS AT THE BOTTOM).

Wow this ROM is amazing! I've tried cm10, liquidsmooth, and pacman countless times, but this rom is perfection. Thanks for the link, I wanted to try 4.3 illusion but it seems extremely buggy. I too have not found any bugs on this rom yet (finger crossed), not bad for a discontinued beta. I wish they would of continued working on 4.3

Trust me, your putting this up is very much appreciated! And don't let any of us add to your stress level, try to remember that in these posts, tone is near impossible to convey perfectly. If someone is going to verbally attack though, you'll know it. There are lots of times our posts are short and pointed, but it's simply because we already do a lot here and just want to make the point and move on. I promise you that nothing said here so far was meant personally or negatively at all. To me, xda can be a great place to escape real life for a while and still be constructive with your time. I hope this proves true for you as well!
As to your questions:
1. It's kind of hard to say tbh. Technically it's probably not considered development if you just make some minor changes/improvements, tweaks, and do a bit of theming to an existing, previously developed Rom. I think it would probably have to be determined by the amount of modification you do. Maybe someone else can chime in on this one, or you could always ask a mod what they think.
I've seen some releases in the development section that definitely would not meet the criteria, so once you implement some changes and make it yours, so to speak, I wouldn't see it as any kind of problem to move it there. Until then it will probably be viewed as more of a support thread though.
2. The part that was in question wasn't with how you thanked and gave credit to the dev. You did perfectly fine on that. The thing we didn't see addressed was whether or not you sought permission from them before posting. Knowing now that you did, it's not an issue at all. But there have been plenty of times where someone would post someone else's work, and give proper credit to the dev, but never asked if they were ok with them posting it. Even though their intentions in some instances were pure, it often would end up with the dev getting pissed and the thread being closed or removed.
Speaking for myself, whenever I see something familiar posted by someone other than the original developers, I automatically wonder if they got permission to do so. And if it's not stated, I or someone else will ask. It's not to be mean or to cause problems, but more to prevent them, and as stated, to look out for the devs interests. None of us wants to see them leave due to lack of respect or common courtesy.
Getting too long so I'll leave it at that! Thanks again!
This all being said, I've been working on speeding up and prolonging battery life. It's already smooth, so I'm just going to squeeze as much battery life out of it as possible. I will either release files you can push, or a .zip depending on everyone's preferences. That being said, battery life was nice, 4hrs, 30 minutes off my first charge cycle of on screen time. I'll upload the pic soon.
1. First line of work is the build.prop
2. Second line of work is within the init.d
3. Third line of work is going to be replacing the kernel with either KT747/Lean
4. Fourth line of work is going to be recommending/including a good inverted GAPPS package

Yeah, a zip would be great. I have pretty decent battery life already, but any way to squeeze out more would be great. I also use the kt747 kernel, but when I attempted to use the TK mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2207286 in conjunction with it, it completely messes up when I try to apply their build.prop mod.

Yeah, TKMod works great! We discovered a couple months ago with the latest release that their modified build.prop was not working for us for some reason. Go ahead and install TKMod but keep your current build.prop. And I use the sysctrl & modified Crossbreader too.
EDIT: from RErick in the above mentioned link-
"Uninstall the build.prop. its not that important. If it doesn't work it doesn't need to be there. Obviously we would Luke for everyone to have it, but its not our pride and joy. If the sysctrl and cross breeder works that's 95 percent of the good stuff"

Don,t want root! But i want roboto Medium Fonts

Hi there, i don't find any need to root my OP3, i feel Rooting/TWRP/Modification can, mess or slower my phone or battery, i have no proof, but just a feeling.
- I think there is no way to change fonts, without root, is it right?
- If i just root, buy unlocking BL, flashing TWRP, stay on Official Rom, just flash desired fonts? will i get same performance, as i get with everything stock?
- Only modification i do with phones is to change the DPI that can happen without root?
What do you guys suggest me?
some people root their phones just to use performance enhancing apps,
installing twrp and rooting will not make your phone slower

- OOS works fine
- Phone is smooth, battery life is fine
Only thing i may root for, is fonts? not sure yet? whether to root and change or just stay with stock, which are rather thin
OSS doesnt have many features
With root or a custom rom I have Android N and thousands of amazing features

thanks for sharing your thoughts bro, actually i dont prefer many amazing features, infact i like to keep things minimal, OOS sort of does that, only feature i miss for the time being, is to bring a bolder fonts, as current fonts are little too thin after bringing down dpi to 380. Roboto Medium looks nice to me.

If you don't root, you won't have a chance to enjoy these amazing fonts

Well these are nice fonts, are you using them without any issues or slowdown or odd behavior?

Just because of old school thoughts, if i wont root, i wont mess things up, it wont make phone slow down, i will have less danger, stock phone may run smoother, keep it original, dont consume much brain
or
this phone is good/slick enough without root, so i never needed a feature which needed root, apart from fonts, if they can help my senses.
Thankfully this phone can easily be rooted without tripping Knox.

A phone can never get slower by changing the fonts... I think you're overreacting...
Weird behavior may occur in terms of graphics, some fonts doesn't match certain apps like clock fonts, calendar maybe calculator or the keyboard, I'm not talking about the fonts you want, I'm generally speaking that it MAY happen and this is either fonts related or apps related
Usually the modified stuffs applied without root can reach only a certain level of customisation , if you want more, root access gives you more
Root access itself NEVER slows the phone, only the user's interaction throughout root may rise issues

It's good enough, no doubts about it but the advantages of rooting it will squeeze more from it
I'm not recommending you to blindly jump and root it and opening more topics about "what's the best for my phone now that I'm rooted" as I've seen thousands here on xda, I would rather say read, read and read again, ask for assistance where you don't understand and decide what's best for you, usually you'll achieve this by trying yourself rather than asking, good luck

You are right bro, if i may wanna get this font, i will install twrp and root my phone, hopefully after doing this and staying on stock OOS, i will get same performance as i get without root, by not messing with anything else.

Well i know what is best for me, thats why i didnt root this phone, thats why i rarely root, never used xposed, never even used greenify sort of stuff as well, i just want a phone that works, so since this phone dont have issues like that of galaxy S7 and others, rooting is not necessary for me, only thing i wanna improve is fonts, wish i could have them without root. But i will try it, so even if i root and change fonts, dont worry, i wont make a threat of whats next, because i am not in need of anything, unless its bothering me, like the fonts.
To be honest, I don't have this device as off yet, awaiting for delivery but reading this threads for the past 2 weeks I've noticed that the best stability has been delivered by the stock ROM so better stay on stock for a while, oneplus and cyanogen along with our brave devs still have some work to do to achieve the level of performance as oneplus one has, 2 months after release it's still early

You are on edge plus? if you like anything like pure android, then you will like this phone a lot more, even the hardware and feel int he hand.
So if i go ahead to root it for fonts, i will stay on Stock. May be in future i can try CM14.
