I have a network unlocked ATT LG G4and I am on mobile share plan that allows tethering. I have no problem tethering in the US with my ATT SIM card.
However, when I use another SIM card (for data in europe), I get a message "authentication was unsuccessful" when trying to activate the hotspot.
If I put the same SIM into my galaxy S4, have no problem activating the hotspot and tethering.
Any idea what's going on? Clearly the foreign SIM is fine. And the phone is capable of tethering (on ATT).
I posted this under ATT G4 as well, but I'm not sure if it's particular to ATT.

Hello,
I buy a Samsung S2 T-989 locket in T-Mobile. I buy an unlocking IMEI code and it worked perfectly. My problem is that when i try to use Thetering and Mobile HotSpot i receive the message "Mobile data is not available or invalid SIM". The only problem is "invalid SIM" because i have internet. What can i do to fix this problem?
Need more info.. stock/root/custom rom? Are you on T-mo? What plan are you on? If you have the new unlimited, then it does not include tethering. Does your interweb work normally? If you are not on T-mo, the stock hotspot app will most likely not work and/or you need to change your network settings for whatever carrier you are using if not T-mo.
i'm from România and i use Cosmote network. my phone is stock. where is the setings are you talking about? maibe i can change them.

Hi!
I am using CM10 and recently bought a T-Mobile USA prepaid card. But every time I use this card, I cannot access my access point. The WiFi settings page says that my AP is not within reach. If I replace the T-Mobile US card with my T-Mobile DE card my wifi works again. O.O
That's strange. Maybe it has something to do with the disabled data roaming option.
But I don't want to enable GSM data roaming just to use WiFi!
Did I miss something?
Hoping someone can help me out here.
I have an unlocked, AT&T branded SG3 (SGH-I747) on the T-Mobile network. My plan allows for tethering however when I try to turn on my mobile hotspot, I get an error, "Mobile Data is Not Available or Invalid SIM".
What I am having a hard time figuring out is if I have an issue with the SIM card or if it is a hardware issue in that I need a T-Mobile version of the GS3 (SGH-T999) to be able to tether. Any light you guys can shed on this would be appreciated.
As the title states, I decided to fork out 20$ on an unlock code for my SGH-T999L. The unlock went smoothly, but I can't connect to any networks for some reason, whether I use my inactive AT&T SIM or my active MetroPCS SIM.
When I set my phone to auto-select the network, it tells me that my SIM doesn't support the network it picks. When I search for networks, I get T-Mobile, AT&T and "311660" on both SIM cards, which neither of them will connect to. I'm sure it has nothing to do with APN settings, as those are solely for MMS and Data if I recall correctly.
Any ideas?
Were you using it with metro before the unlock?

I bought the unlock code for my HTC desire 526 locked on verizon. but i couldn't use it because my phone never ask for unlock code even when i put unsupported sim cards..THE phone is locked to verizon USA and i have tired all the GSM simcard that i can lay my hands on and i have change the netwrok setting form CDMA to GSM but still no luck
Is their any special way that am supposed to push the unlock code into the phone???
thanks in advance
Verizon 4G phones are SIM unlocked as mandated by the FCC.
It won't ask for a SIM unlock code anywhere, but it should work on other carriers. I bought mine and used it on T-Mo US from day 1, then switched to Iusacell/AT&T Mexico and had no issues. All I had to do was manually configure the APNs and deal with the Verizon bloatware.
What error messages do you get when you put in a non-Verizon SIM? I only get the SIM card is not from Verizon Wireless message but other than that the phone works fine.
hot spot
I have the Verizon 526 using att sim and works great only I can not get mobile hot-spot to work do you have an issue or know of a fix to it

I was reading up on this issue earlier. Would have to figure out how to disable the Verizon hotspot app and use a third party app most likely. Verizon programs account authorization into this phone's tethering app.
On a device without native tethering enabled, I was able to temp root, use chainfire's hotspot control app to enable authentication over WiFi, but because there was no native support on that phone, I had to install a proxy server on it to get traffic to pass back & forth between the cloud and connected wireless clients.
Not sure if that helps, but it's a place to start. I'm going to try building a rom for the desire 526, so maybe a lot of these vzw annoyances will no longer be an issue
