How to root & install Custom Recovery on M8 EU? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello I am new here in HTC M8 thread. I have lots of questions in my mind please someone help me.
I wanna install this rom in my phone.. I know I have to root my phone and have to install custom recovery But I dont know my phone is s-off or On!! I dont know how to check I dont know how to do it? So please someone help me to install a custom on my phone
I have Htc One M8 32GB EU version, I am on Stock 5.0.1, Software number 4.16.401.10
lemme know if you guys wanna know anything about my phone I will upload a screenshot too. Thanks in advance

Hello you too. First you go to unlock your bootloader (htcdev.com), then download twrp and flash it via fastboot command (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img, rename twrp recovery to recovery) Second download supersu package and flash it via recovery (twrp) Third download s.rom and flash it ? simply. You dont need s-off or change firmware. ?

You don't need to install superuser before flashing the rom. The rom is already rooted.
The term "root my phone" is wrong. You give the software (rom) root access. That's all.

[Q] How to unroot htc one v

Hellloo xda...is there anyone who can gimme a proper step to step guide for unrooting my htc one v.
1. Download the HTC Asia India RUU from Football's collection in the development section
2. While that's downloading, relock your bootloader using the command
Code:
fastboot oem lock
3. Open the RUU. Find the temp folder it created and open ROM.zip from inside it with 7Zip. Extract the recover.img and flash it
Code:
fasboot flash recovery recovery.img
4. Run the RUU and your phone's status will be *** RELOCKED *** and unrooted.
So why do you want to unroot?
Whenever I install custom Rom my sd card and WiFi doesn't work...soo I installed custom Rom without having a nandroid.backup.that's y I was asking.neways thanks a lot for replying.this. is my second one v(replacement)
sent from my sexoo one v
My build number is1.56.720.2 and the ruu is 1.58.707.3.what should i do now??
how do i find the temp folder??..
What is the use of other images???in rom folder..does this stock ruu flashing fixes error?
So what exactly are you trying to do now? Before you said unroot the phone, then you said install custom ROM in a later post.
could you also please find a way to help me? my htc one v freeze forever after i turn it on, please help me
Assuming you're on stock rom, have you try factory reset in bootloader ?
Do you know your software version or cid no. ?
He sent a pm telling me that his phone is rooted and he flashed a zip file that supposedly increases the SD card speed, and apparently causes soft bricks too
I think the only thing to do is re-flash the RUU because I don't think he did a backup in CWM Recovery.
Roxas84, please confirm.
I see.. if he can send the file, sometimes do a revert.zip will help. The easiest is reflash the same rom.zip with wipe cache & system. It should correct the error.
Hey dudes,
I was going to start the same thread but since this is open I want to ask you one question:
If I root the phone, flash cwm, and then I want to return to stock (for warranty purposes) how can I 'uninstall' cwm? Because for unroot I know how to do it, but uninstall custom recovery I never done that even on my older phone - Htc hero.
I'm not new to recoveries, custom roms, flashing and all this kind of stuff, but this is a problem that I don't know how to handle it since I didn't needed to uninstall the custom recovery in the past.
TIA!
L.E: To Answer my own question:
D) ROM is stock, bootloader unlocked, CWM recovery and rooted
- download OTA Rootkeeper from Play Store
- run the OTA Rootkeeper and click protect root
- no need to relock bootloader
- boot to bootloader and fastboot flash the stock recovery
- run the OTA update
- Once done, run OTA Rootkeeper and click restore root
Thanks @ckpv5 for these awesome guides
I just summarized this thread in the following tut but with much more detail:
[TUT] Re-flash stock ROM (RUU) after bricking a rooted device (for noobs)
Roxas84, follow this tut if ckpv5's suggestion above doesn't work.
1ceb0x, it will also show how to revert to stock recovery.

Hello guys, I want to unroot my One V but I have a problem. I don't find my RUU. HBOOT says:
*** UNLOCKED ***
PRIMOU PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.18.0000
Radio-3831.18.00.282
eMMc-boot
Which ruu should I use?
Thx!
Dude you don't look here you look at your software number in settings
Oh! My device says 2.19.666.3 and again, there's not RUU with this mention...

Recovery Mess

Hi, i need a little help here. I have an M8x unlocked, S-ON, and i want to go back to stock recovery to do OTA (4.24.709.3). CID no. HTC__621, running Lollipop 5.0.2 (software version 4.24.709.2). I don't know which stock recovery i must use, i read a lot of threaths that claims bootloop for using the wrong recovery, obviously i don't want that. my phone is rooted and use TWRP custom recovery. See everywhere i read i have to use the stock recovery with the same number of the software version, it's that true?, (In this threth are all the stock recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860) if not, which one i must use? in this video explain how to do the process to gain OTA been root user: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPPT5J8xG6w&index=14&list=PLHTorDR_h9wzlSNE_Ewoy6LpjXrTiEo3F
the only thing i need to know is which recovery use!!! Please HELP!!! (Apologize my bad english)

Root htc m8

Can someone please post a very precise and detailed step by step method of how to root the htc m8 ( non GPE edition - European version ) with marshmallow os ? I m pure stock, I haven't done anything with it. Thank you !
It's all here in the forum , looking for a bit and you'll find it .
Unlock your bootloader via htcdev.com
Fastboot flash the latest TWRP.img
Use TWRP custom recovery to flash SuperSU, or flash a rooted ROM. (Most ROMs are rooted)

Unlock bootloader and install Custom recovery

I'm on 6.12.118.4, do I need to S-off to flash custom ROMs ?
Can someone give me a tool to unlock bootloader and flash custom recovery. ( should work on Marshmallow)
Thanks in advance.
You don't need S-Off to install custom ROMs.
You don't need tool for that, you need adb/fastboot & drivers - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926362&postcount=4
1. unlock bootloader - http://www.htcdev.com/
2. install latest 3.0.2-0 TWRP recovery - https://twrp.me/devices/htconem8gsm.html
command : fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-m8.img

Thanks ckpv5. is there any limitation when unlock your bootloader without s-off (can flash any ROM?) ?
No limitation because you have the latest Marshmallow firmware installed.
You can install any ROM .. Sense, AOSP and GPE.
For GPE, use the flashable GPE ROM not GPE RUU

Thanks for the all help, I wanted to flash leedroid on my M8 (t mobile Poland- T-MOB009) i can flash any custom rom right ? or it has to be t-mobile variant ROM ?
This is going to be my last reply as you keep asking the same question and I replied with the same answer.
Yes ... any ROM .. means any GSM ROM (not Verizon, not Sprint).
Your T-Mobile is not a US T-mobile .. so yes ... any ROM
I hope you do understand the meaning of any ROM .. means any ROM

Any ROM from the "main" M8 Development forum or Original Development forum is fine.
Just stay away from ROMs intended specifically for Verizon, Sprint, Dual SIM or M8 Eye (and the last 2 don't have many ROMs at all). And those ROMs are posted to other variant-specific Development sections.

Not ckpv5 but I can answer as well:
It doesn't matter. No need to worry about them.

I somewhat disagree with the previous response. There are some cases where CID and MID matter:
1) Verizon version, which does require s-off to unlock bootloader (that carrier forced HTC to block bootloader unlock via the normal means HTCDev.com).
2) Verizon and Sprint versions use a different kernel, so the ROM needs to support Verizon/Sprint specifically, otherwise the ROM won't boot. Or another option, is to install the proper kernel after flashing the ROM.
3) Some M8 variants, like the M8s, which requires a different (its own) TWRP version.
But it is true, for the majority of M8 versions, CID and MID don't make a difference for unlocking bootloader, custom recovery, and custom ROM.
Do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting) if you want us to take a look, and confirm.
thanks for your answers.. it help me

Help request

Hi , I cannot restore any ruu on my m8s
M8s
Boot relocked, stock recovery s-on
Cid orang001
Found the ruu for this cid is the one with orange UK
Tried aru flash ,not work, tried sdcars method , doesn't work
Tried to flash with latest twrp, unlocked boot and latest supersu, doesnt work
Tries crypted, unencrypted all kind of ruu,s it doesn't work
Can anyone explain wtf to do please?
My radio is the one with @6xxx something
I saw you opened may thread ... and almost no one respond to your request for help.
One thing .. you don't really explain what your problem is. One time you said your device was on bootloop after flashed SuperSU. I tried to help but I don't get what your problem is. You installed TWRP 2.8.6.0 meant for M8s (I hope) and installed SuperSU 2.76. Instead of getting a report whether you manage to boot or not, you asked ...
Ok installed fresh twrp 2.8.6.0 , latest super su , now wich ruu i have to install lol this is my var
So what actually happened ?
Let me try to help you for one more time....
There is no RUU available for your current firmware and there is nothing much you can do with a S-On device ... for temporary fix to at least have a working phone ....
1. unlocked bootloader
2. install twrp-recovery-2.8.6.0-m8s-qlul.img - never use TWRP meant for regular M8, won't work on M8s
3. Download the 2.10.401.1 TWRP backup from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67192365&postcount=1
4. Extract the Stock MM TWRP.zip and place the content to your TWRP/BACKUPS/SerialNo/
5. Restore the backup in TWRP ... you should have a booting device
Then you can wait until the RUU for your device is available.
(I have no idea what the firmware no. is ... if not I can try to search for the RUU)

ty ill give it a try , the problem my cid is ORANG001 and the thing is that only rom , ruu or whatever is i can install is the cyanogenmod and i dont like it i prefer my stock rom wich is mm 6.0 i think
You should already made your own stock backup before you start to mess with your device.
So when something goes wrong, you can always recover.
That backup that I linked above is stock Marshmallow.

Yeah know i will know it ) , i'll try this method , if i fix my phone i will donate you some $$$ thanks
OK , if anyone get error to copy the system_image.emmc.win to backups due to large image , you have to boot in a rom first and than you can copy it. i couldnt copy it until i booted in cyanogen.

Thanks for the intention but donation is not needed.
Better if you can spend 25$ to S-Off the device then you can install that lower version orang001RUU but do this only if you need the orang001 ROM.
If you're happy with current ROM, no need to spend 25$ to S-Off
