There are dozens of posts which swear up and down that you can downgrade from 5.0.1 to 4.4.4 on the Note 4 Retail (Verizon)
Then I see the same amount of posts saying that you can't do it because of the bootloader update.
My experience with it led me to the "Fused 2 Binary 1" error (Without bricking it) multiple times.
Can it be done?

From what everyone one says in the threads, no. And the reason is because you are on the OF1 build which is an incremental bootloader put out just so you can't flash back lol. It sucks I am in the same boat until a dev figures out away around it.
well....
I still don't understand why the fuss over letting people flash firmware.. If I pay, I should be able to play.. Screw the system...
I need to disable the OTA.. I kept hitting cancel on the update, and it eventually started the update without me.
Can we get this stickied so that people like me aren't getting confused by all the back and forth?

Hi all,
I have tried all methods, factory reset, change to ATT sim(non-active sim), non of them work. I dont have an active ATT sim
I think the only way for me to upgrade to 5.1.1 is through Odin.
I'm waiting too
I've got the 5.1.1 update on my phone. And would be happy to provide odin files for it if someone can tell me how to pull it.

I have the same problem. My att note 4 is on Cricket wireless, and I haven't noticed any OTA when checking for updates. I've read on another post that att pulled the update and sent it back to fix the install issue some are having (among other issues). I really would like to try a manual Odin firmware update and see if it goes through... Please, if anyone could provide the files, that would be great. I'm tired of waiting with this annoying battery drainage issue with 5.0 - 5.01...

Just an FYI, I have a friend on Cricket. When Cricket was still using the old carrier (was it Verizon?), Cricket released its own updates. Usually a month or so after the main carrier.
That was when Cricket had its own phone models though. My friend had an S4 and it was a Cricket model number.

Yeah it failed for me to. I honestly don't know at this point. I'm not a dev. I know some things lol. I think there might be something wrong with the current firmware that is causing it to fail. This is the first I've seen this ever happen. I was trying to find the Odin files for 5.0.1 but I don't see them anywhere yet. That way we can odin flash current firmware again then try update. If that fails, we'll need to wait for the Odin files for 5.1.1.
Odin files for 5.1.1 will hopefully soon be up!

I 'll give the device to my wife and I will buy the note 5 of TMO . I think I'll have better opportunities.
thanks for your time my brother!
From what I 've seen the least bad brand is Samsung , because the other brands bring poor processors (MTK ) or are bad devices to develop OS cooked.
I tried this method and it works fine for me.

I'm not sure what you mean. To get the OTA you can't be rooted in the first place. It's only a security fix, so if you have a 100% stock phone, you can root like the last version since it doesn't change anything in regards to root.

I use Kies or Odin for updates not OTA.
My phone is rooted with Knox 0 x 0 and is working fine.
I would not touch to anything if I will have to root again after this update.
Sometimes small updates do not change the root status.
Just wanted to know if this one will take the root away.

I'm glad they threw us a bone, but it took them 5 months to fix stagefright in an update that basically only fixed that? Surely they could have done it sooner, or did a proper 5.1 update in that timeframe...

From what I read they are working on 5.1.1 for the Note 3 (I know 6.0 is out). It takes a long time (yes months) to make sure everything is compatible with TouchWiz. Personally I don't need it as 5.0 works flawlessly for me. I'm not one to need the latest OS. If my phone does what I need/want I'm happy. The only thing I worry about is security, and now that they fixed it, I'm really happy.

Where did you read that? There used to be a 5.1.1 update listed on the updates page but it was pulled months ago. T-Mobile would not even confirm whether or not anything at all is/was being worked on, or if the phone was abandoned. I highly doubt we ever get anything past 5.0 at this point.
I do agree on your other point, the Note 3 still holds up extremely well against current gen phones. I bought and returned a 6P because it just wasn't a $500 upgrade and the battery life was worse than my 2 year old N3 (original battery).

My bad. It was the Note 3 Neo, not ours. Yes I agree this phone is still awesome. I have an Anker 6400 battery, and it lasts two days easy. With all the features the Note 5 removed I'll be sticking with the Note 3 for a while, or at least until it breaks, or the next Note adds back the SD, removable battery, and IR. Those are the three things I love the most. Very power user friendly those are.

Hey, just got this phone and T-Mobile will not allow for an OTA update. When I try Kies it doesn't like the S/N (I used IMEI). Is Odin the only way? If so, is there a completely (I don't even require root) STOCK version of most recent rom or just the one prior to this? I'm currently only 4.4

Just download the current ROM (FOL1) from here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N900T/, and use ODIN to install. When you click the Kies download button you get instructions, and a link to ODIN http://dl.sammobile.com/Odin3_v3.10.7.zip. Just follow the instructions, and you'll have it updated in no time.

450 MB, and no significant differences?
Hello community,
I got a Note 4 N910V and the jump was something incredible. I am in love with the thing.
My note 2 was rooted and had the Resurrection Remix rom. I felt free to customize it since I didn't have to worry about the bootloader or anything but it was really sluggish.
My note 4 came with 5.0.1(stock rom) and skiming through the forums I'm seeing things like 'safely upgrade to MM'. Makes me thing the OTA update ain't working right for everyone.
I'm not getting any OTA updates, could be because I'm not in the US and my phone is unlocked for a local telco.
I have a couple of questions
- Is the MM update fine? Battery, performance, root? how would I update if I'm not getting any OTA updates?
- I know about kingroot but is it recommended as the root option for my OS version. I found this but It's been a long time since I rooted a phone.
- Any popular ROM/Mods? RR was a big thing in the note 2 community (also a couple of custom kernels).
Pics of what I got down below.
Thank you for your time.
I'm using this phone on Bell Mobility in Canada and was unable to get the OTA. I have no intention of rooting this phone yet.
I was able to get the stock 6.0.1 OTA file from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...mware-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t2942937
I was able to update using the stock recovery without issue....

Hey man thank you for your answer!
Did you have any problems with the unlocked properties (telco wise, no bootloader) when flashing these things?
I also checked my download mode and doesn't say anything about developer. Seems fine showing up Odin mode so I'm going to assume this is a retail version.

The only way to get an ota is to be on Verizon. Other wise you'll need to download the update and flash with Odin or flash with stock recovery.
The reason for the "safe update to mm" threads are for people who rooted and unlocked the boot loader. You'll need to follow one of those threads if you want root. Nothing wrong with just updating to mm other than you'll have to downgrade to 5.1.1 if you later decide you want root and unlocked boot loader
These phones become really unstable if you just try to root and you lose root once you restart the phone.

Hi, I've got this one Note 4 that's had loads of trouble presumably since the last security update.
Baseband Version: N910AUCS2EQD1
Android: 6.0.1
Have seen the instructions and all as to how to go about downgrading BUT one site I came across with the original stock firmware downloads outright state how:
""DO not ever try to downgrade from any newest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow updates back to an older 6.0.1 build version""
'and so I'm lost. Should trying to then reinstall the same Baseband version atop what's already there a good first alternative? ...that is, just in case it was never upgraded properly in the first place? Or is that not even possible?
Is trying to downgrade at all a futile pursuit?
Would truly appreciate any suggestions, help, direction...heck, anything! Thanks in advance.
I downgraded from 6.0.1 epk5 to 5.1.1 with no problem.
Not sure about qd1.
As long as you have the odin firmware, I see no problem.
Can i downgrade note 4 n910a from marshmallow to lollilop, please help me i am in great trouble because marsmallow update is very bad with a lot of reboot issue ,battery drain.
Once you are on QD1 you will not be able to go back to anything lower than that firmware. The bootloader is now at the latest version and has blown one of those imaginary "e-fuses" so that you can not go back in time to any other vulnerable OS. I just tried today to go from EQD1 to EPK5 and It would not flash and would fail every time whilst using the latest Odin. So good luck on finding anything on getting you back to another firmware version but at this time I do not believe there is anything that will move you back to the firmware you want. If you do happen to find something or make your own exploit do tell @sanaullahkhan371 If you are on QD1 you are not going to be able to downgrade if you are on PK5 you can try the Odin downgrade method that will5 presumably used but if you are not in this firmware use case you are SOL.

I just odin to this firmware N910AUCU2DOI2-5.1.1 It s available somewhere on this forum.
Read how to odin if you never used it. In this case you need to unzip the file and load AP, BL, CP and CSC files on odin and flash.

I'm also on EQH1. I have never tried to downgrade. I was just curious if it was possible, in case a root method was discovered that only worked on older versions. But I've just learned to live without root. EQH1 works fine for me.
I had the infamous freeze/reboot/shutdown issue with 6.0.1 and I wasn't sure if that was the issue but I downgraded to 5.1 and have fewer issues now. The phone runs just fine, except it does not reboot. You have to do a soft reset every time. But with the Wakelock app, at least it runs.

No, you can't bypass OTA updates, you should install them as they came, one after another.

Just to add a little info to the mix OTA updates are basically incremental updates. They only have what is needed to update the phone from the last OTA to the what is being installed at that time.
Because of this skipping an update is not possible. If you wanted to update the phone so you could skip OTA updates then you would need to download the full firmware version and flash it using Odin. You can easily find the information on how to do this by searching the forum, and there are plenty of tutorials out on the internet (including YouTube). Recently discussions on how to flash firmware via Odin were held here, so you should be able to locate them easily.
i rather OTA so i have less chance to brick it

Your thread hijacking aside the simplest solution would have been to ask that one person to show you proof that what they have said is true.
Otherwise your question has most likely (probly has already) been asked and answered on the forum. I encourage you to search for the answer should you be so inclined to do so.
